"Your city, why do you say that?" Saul was puzzled, not understanding why the doctor said that.
"Zombies? The military calls those creatures zombies, a highly efficient predator. Humanity was once on the verge of collapse under their attacks, but superheroes have changed things again," the doctor said proudly, feeling quite happy at the thought of restoring civilized society.
Seeing Thor's bewildered expression, the doctor shook his head and then turned on the television to watch the current situation. What he saw was quite astonishing: a large army was attacking the frenzied zombies, and the effect was quite good. With the help of many superheroes, the number of zombies was steadily decreasing.
"See those? Those soulless monsters are really disgusting," the doctor said calmly, perhaps out of joy at the elimination of the zombies. The doctor explained the situation of this world to Thor, making Thor quickly understand that this world was a mortal world.
"So that's how it is. No wonder Loki looked at me with such schadenfreude at the beginning. It turns out this world is so dangerous. It seems we have to solve this problem. I need to leave here alive." Thor's eyes lit up. After understanding everything, he didn't want to die in this world. Besides, he was now just a mortal and had basically lost his power.
"Excuse me, sir. We have a question for you." At this moment, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent smiled and said, seeing the current situation. They had already anticipated Thor's appearance, but were just observing his reaction.
"The matter... I heard that you initially claimed this place was somewhere in mythology. Now we're here to confirm some things." The words of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent made Thor frown, but he still sensed that an opportunity had arrived.
He descended to Earth, losing all his powers, but his memories remained. Since the people of this world have accepted him, it means he can utilize the power of this world.
"It seems Thor has seen the state of this world and is already using its power. It really seems quite remarkable," the doctor next to him muttered to himself, while the two people behind him remained silent.
"Alright, I'll follow you to your place. But I hope you can guarantee my safety, that's enough." Thor's words made the others feel better; it seemed that cooperating with the person in front of them was sufficient.

Chapter 719 Laser Channel
The Thunder Commando's target was the Hydra base. The outer entrance was small, allowing only one person at a time, and Ms. Marvel led the way. They slowly descended the steps into a dark passage, cautiously groping their way forward. The T-virus detector occasionally beeped, as if warning them of problems inside.
Since they were all superheroes, they had nothing to worry about. The situation was as it was; as long as there were no problems, everything was fine. The metal door opened, revealing a completely different scene. A modern, imposing metal corridor stretched forward. Although there was no electricity, rows of fluorescent lights could be seen at the top of the corridor through night vision goggles. One could imagine what the corridor would look like if it had electricity. Although it was arguably dilapidated, the last Hydra base nearby couldn't be any worse; they had already dealt with many of the biological weapons on the periphery.
Along the way, they found several bodies, two of which were wearing white overalls. Although they lacked identification and markings, they were judged to be from the opposing side in the firefight. At the end of the corridor, a metal door blocked their path. Dark Wolverine, Jack Sparrow, stepped in, unlocking the electronic lock to reveal a passage about ten meters long. At the end of the passage was another metal door, and the passage was littered with scraps of cloth and white debris. Jack was a mercenary, and equipped with Umbrella Corporation's smart technology. Looking around, he noticed that the walls of the passage were smooth mirrors, reflecting beams of light when a flashlight was shone on them. Furthermore, Iron Man's technology could also solve the problem here.
"What kind of mechanism is it?" asked Bronsky, one of the Black Giants beside him. "Not sure yet, but there's definitely something wrong here!" Jack replied calmly after a moment of silence. "The walls seem to be covered with some kind of weapon. As long as we don't trigger them, it should be fine," Captain America said casually. "Seems like nothing serious." "No, there's something wrong here. Jarvis scanned it," Iron Man interjected. "There's definitely a huge danger hidden here. Look at those scraps of cloth on the ground!" "What about the scraps of cloth?" Captain America asked, puzzled. "If I'm not mistaken, those scraps of cloth are probably clothes!" Jack suddenly interjected. "Those white fragments are probably bones!" "Hmm, there's a high chance that there's a device similar to a laser tripwire here," Black Widow added. Jack thought for a moment, then took out a high-tech card from his pocket. It emitted infrared sensors and was thrown into the passage. The high-tech card slid forward along the ground, and when it reached the middle of the passage, the door suddenly closed. Jack looked at the microcomputer in his hand and said, "The door is closed. It can be reopened. Everyone, move a little further away."
Everyone retreated to the side of the door. They were familiar with laser tripwires; without this door, if several lasers had actually shot out from inside, probably no one could have withstood it. The door opened again, but no lasers shot out. However, the high-tech cards on the ground were sliced into countless small pieces. Then, a test device was destroyed. They were surprised; Hydra was indeed extraordinary. "Such a dense laser beam!" Black Widow exclaimed in surprise. "It looks very dangerous to go in. Jack, can you keep this door open?" Iron Man, also a high-tech expert, asked. "No, there must be some kind of sensor in the passage. Once triggered, the door will close, and then the lasers will activate, making dense cuts in the passage..."
"What do we do then?" a team member asked in surprise. "There's no way yet..." Jack said helplessly. After a brief silence, he suddenly said, "I'm thinking, how did they get across?" "Them?" the other soldiers asked, "Which 'them'?" "I'm thinking of using the remote control to open the metal door on the other side, and then going in. That way, even if the door on this side is closed, the laser won't be activated?" Jack suddenly thought of something, seemingly talking to himself. He was familiar with the laser passage; he knew everything about the core members of Umbrella Corporation around him. "That's possible!" Captain America continued, "The key is, how do we open the door on the other side?"
Suddenly, Iron Man stepped forward and knocked on the metal door a few times, smiling as he said, "Destroy it, will that work?" "Destroy it?" Jack seemed to ponder for a moment, "It might work! The laser should only activate in a completely enclosed environment. If the door is destroyed, a completely enclosed environment cannot be created." "Iron Man, give it a try," came Captain America's command from the side.
"Got it!" Iron Man said casually, his skill level was definitely above average. Everyone made way for the doorway, and Iron Man fired a shot at the opposite door with his Palm Cannon, then quickly took cover beside it. A few "ding, ding, ding, ding" sounds rang out, and the energy bounced off the doorway, clearly indicating the doorway's formidable strength. Iron Man examined it closely; only tiny melting marks remained on the opposite door, demonstrating its exceptionally strong defense. "Minor damage!" I said over the radio.
“Jack, if we destroy the door on the other side, the laser won’t activate, right?” Iron Man said calmly. “Yeah, that’s right,” Jack agreed. “How confident are you?” Iron Man continued. “More than 50%!” Jack said calmly, “but that’s just a guess.” “Good!” Iron Man’s tone seemed to have made a decision. “Jack, go get the rocket launcher. Judging from the sturdiness of this door, high-explosive grenades probably won’t be able to cause any damage. There’s no way to deal with something that strong.”
The remaining people retreated to the electronic door at the entrance of the corridor. After a while, Jack and his team returned, carrying an RPG-7 and two boxes of rockets. "What kind of rockets did you bring?" Black Widow asked suspiciously. "An RPG-7," Jack replied calmly. "Everyone, back off." As he spoke, one of the members had already installed a TBG-7V rocket.
Jack shouldered the rocket launcher; they were over 500 meters from the target iron gate. Everyone retreated far enough. With a whoosh, a ball of flame shot forward, illuminating the corridor and making it look exceptionally beautiful. Then, a deafening boom followed, as if the entire area trembled. Thick smoke billowed in the distance, and bursts of fire engulfed an area about 300 meters ahead… Iron Man glanced at it and said, “The target has a small dent…” “Looks like it’s damaged. Let’s continue!” Jack added.
Chapter 720 An Unexpected Encounter
After seven shots, a large hole was finally blasted through the metal door opposite, revealing a small room behind it. The room was carpeted, and many cabinets could be seen, though most of the carpet was charred, and the cabinets were warped and toppled over. After a while, when the smoke and fire dissipated, they returned to the entrance of the mirrored passageway.
“Theoretically, there shouldn’t be any lasers now,” Jack said. “Yes,” Iron Man replied. “I’m thinking of blowing this door down too…” “Good idea!” “Alright, close this door!”
Marcus, watching all this from inside Hydra, wasn't in a hurry. Sometimes sacrifices had to be made; he had already gotten what he wanted. There was no need to do anything more. At that moment, Jack took several dozen steps back, then suddenly sprinted forward. Just before reaching the door, he leaped slightly, tilted his head back, and pounced through the door, feet first, head last… He landed quickly in the passageway, but due to the great momentum and the slippery floor, he continued to slide forward, slightly tilting his body as he slid… Sure enough, no lasers were emitted; this was a good result. Near the other side, Jack suddenly braced himself with his right hand, flipping 180 degrees in the air, head first, feet last, and slipped through the opposite door. Here, you can see him roll on the ground after landing, quickly drawing his pistol in alert. The entire process was seamless and swift—that was the skill of an Umbrella Corporation mercenary.
"Safe!" came Jack's voice. "Okay, continue!" Iron Man glanced around and said calmly. Everyone entered the small room and examined it carefully; it seemed to be a changing room. They opened the door, but nothing happened. There was no power, and nothing could be started. Jack rushed over and pushed open the opposite door, but still nothing happened. Everyone rushed out. Outside was a large hall. In the center of the hall was a marble table with computers and folders on it. They searched each room one by one; some were meeting rooms, some were tea rooms, and some contained clothes and bones…
They discovered a place that was a large conference room. The conference room was filled with zombies, at least a thousand of them. However, all the zombies were staring blankly with blank expressions, as if they had not noticed them at all.
“So many zombies…” Black Widow whispered. She wasn't very experienced with zombies, but it was clear she was close. “Should we attack?” asked Bronsky, a black giant. “No!” Jack hissed. “There are at least several thousand zombies in these conference rooms. What if they come back to life if you open fire?” “Then aren't we in great danger?” said Ms. Marvel worriedly. “Indeed,” Jack said to everyone. “Everyone, find some things to block these doors!” We all worked together to move a large conference table and block the six doors, then added more tables and chairs to make the blockage more secure…
Then they went forward again, turned right, and passed several more meeting rooms. After that, we saw the elevator—of course, it was out of power. Next, they saw the stairs, the entrance blocked by various obstacles. It seemed humanity had made a desperate struggle on this floor; the blockage was too tight for us to pass through, so we had to continue forward. At the end of the corridor, an escape door caught everyone's attention; a pale green light was still glowing. Entering the escape door led to an escape corridor about fifty meters long. At the end was an escape elevator. Next to the elevator were construction materials like metal scaffolding, and the faintly glowing red locking indicator light on the elevator control panel suggested that while the group was skilled, being ambushed was not so simple.
The passageway ahead was very narrow; two conference tables placed side by side could completely block it, making them difficult to move. Furthermore, to enter, one would have to go elsewhere; otherwise, the Hydra base wouldn't be so difficult to access. "Ready? I'll activate the backup elevator!" Jack said to everyone over the radio. "Damn it!" Suddenly, Iron Man's voice came through the radio. "What's wrong?" it seemed several people asked simultaneously. "The cipher program has a virus installed; it will take me some time to fix!" Iron Man's voice was furious. "How long will the repair take?" Jack asked.
"Boom boom boom!" Countless metal storms rang out, attracting some zombies to rush over. In addition, there were hunters and some bio-weapons wielding axes, making the situation very difficult to resolve.
“Jarvis, how much longer? We need to hurry. The others need our help, or things will get bad.” Iron Man frowned and spoke to his AI program, hoping it could be faster.
“Sir, those viruses are high-level viruses, and it will take us some time to resolve them.” Jarvis frowned as he worked on Iron Man. He temporarily imported the program here and waited to see how things went, hoping that things would turn out in time.
"Come on! Superheroes? Remnants of Umbrella Corporation? None of that matters anymore. As long as you're powerful enough, that's what makes the final battle exciting." Marcus muttered to himself, watching all the images. He had no regrets; nothing mattered to him anymore.
"Clang." The metallic sparks made Captain America's arm go numb. His shield blocked the zombie wielding the axe, but the immense force was unstoppable; the level of power was simply too high.
"How come Hydra's strength has declined? Why are there only a few of those biological weapons left? It seems you have a lot of biological weapons, which is bad." Dark Wolverine Jack frowned, thinking of something ominous.
"Punisher, what should we do? It seems there are still a lot of biological weapons here," Bronsky asked Punisher. They were a team and their relationship was pretty good, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to win.
"It seems Hydra's power is almost over, and everything will start anew." Jack used his claws to attack rapidly, and there was practically nothing that could withstand it, so this kind of life was not bad.
Meanwhile, Tang Tian was also observing Thor's situation, wondering if the destruction of Hydra was related to anything else. As gods, they no longer considered such minor figures a threat; that was the reality, and there was nothing they could do to change things.
Chapter 721 The Justice League Joins
Stratosphere of Earth in the Marvel Main Universe, Justice League Headquarters.
"Clark, we've discovered a team of superheroes at Hydra's Antarctic base. Should we help them?" Flash Joey asked, glancing at Superman with some confusion.
"Clark, we haven't fought in a long time. It's all because of us that our world has become like this. What we need to do is destroy Hydra." Green Lantern also said to Superman, clearly feeling a little embarrassed about their mistakes. In fact, it was their carelessness that led to the world becoming like this.
“Through the machine that simulates Professor X, I can sense the team’s thoughts. When they encounter resistance, that’s when we need to help them,” Martian Manhunter said calmly, glancing at the people around him.
“Alright, I understand what you all mean. Let’s go there! It’s time to deal with what Hydra has been doing.” Superman tapped the table and said confidently to his master.
"Justice League, move out!" Superman began his plan, ordering the Flash to go first, since the Flash was faster than Quicksilver and would arrive in a few seconds.
The Flash's speed was undeniable; he arrived at the target location in less than five seconds. By then, the team was surrounded by a large number of biological weapons, and the situation was extremely critical.
"It's so cold! The Antarctic environment is definitely not that great." The Flash slowed down as soon as he arrived in Antarctica. Even superheroes have weaknesses. For example, Superman's weakness is the radioactive elements in his home planet. The Flash's weakness is also the frigid Antarctic environment. After all, the Flash is just an ordinary human, not someone with Superman's physique. Therefore, the Flash's weakness is the cold environment, which is also his weakness in the animated films.
"Huh, the Justice League has also joined the destruction of Hydra? That seems pretty good." Tang Tian was already monitoring the situation here, so there were no problems.
"Those Justice League guys are really bored! It seems the lesson from last time wasn't enough; we need to crack down on those self-important superheroes more." He still held so-called superheroes in utter contempt, so it was best to wait and see for now.
"Sorry we're late." Although the Flash was in Antarctica and his speed was limited, it didn't mean he couldn't get there.
As the team members were on edge, a voice rang out around them. Then, the surrounding bio-weapons collapsed expressionlessly, clearly severely wounded.
"That speed belongs to the Justice League. I think his name is Flash." Captain America recognized the figure as the Justice League's Flash, as they had previously collaborated with the Justice League.
"That's great, our plan will succeed," Ms. Marvel said happily, as they now had more ways to solve the problem.
"The Justice League is even stronger than the Avengers. It's really great to have their help," Captain America said happily. As the last base of Hydra, it's practically impossible for them not to have hidden strength.
Are those Hydra's biological weapons? It's really dangerous. The Flash is agile enough to dodge countless bullets and biological weapon attacks. If the Flash weren't fast enough, he might have been killed long ago.
Meanwhile, in the villa, Thor turned on the tap, and cool water flowed merrily from it. Thor cupped his hands in the water, washing his face, which was slightly oily from a night's sleep. He looked up, and in the mirror before him appeared a lonely face, sharply defined, with blond hair that made him look different.
Thor is handsome, in the eyes of others; he's a typical Western heartthrob, and as a god, he possesses the same charisma. It's said that gods are generally very attractive to many.
Thor gave a self-deprecating smile, picked up a towel to dry his face, hesitated for a moment, then picked up the Gillette razor beside him, carefully tilted his chin up, and slowly shaved off his not-so-long stubble. After washing his chin and the razor, he let out a long breath, touched his smooth chin, and left the bathroom. During this time, he had cooperated with S.H.I.E.L.D., basically telling them everything he could.
In the kitchen next door, milk was being poured into a saucepan, the stove was turned on, and the milk container was placed on the stove. Thor's current apartment was on the third floor, so he insisted on taking the stairs every day. Thor greeted the black doorman, took out his letter and the newspaper he had ordered, and turned to go back upstairs. The agent took the food down and placed it directly on the table, then took out cereal from the refrigerator. There was only a little cereal left, which was a bit small for breakfast. Thor, like the mortals of this world, poured all the cereal into the saucepan, took out a spoon, pulled up a chair, stirred the milk, casually picked up the newspaper, spread it out, glanced at the front page and sports headlines, then tossed the newspaper aside and picked up the remaining letter. While drinking milk and eating the softened cereal, his attention was drawn to the news on television.
"The Justice League and superheroes have announced a new operation; Hydra is about to be destroyed, the culprit behind the world's catastrophe." Thor chewed his food, swallowed, and finished the last sip of milk. The agent next to him stood up and went to the sink to wash the dishes. Accompanied by the agent, Thor went to check the bus. As always, it was crowded, filled with all sorts of people, struggling to make a living. That's how it is on the morning bus, especially during rush hour.
It's worth mentioning that the city's roads are in excellent condition thanks to the support of the Umbrella Corporation. The wide streets are rarely congested unless there are special circumstances or bad weather. Furthermore, the city's development has been incredibly rapid due to the presence of this behemoth. The global biohazard crisis has severely weakened the world's power, and Thor, being a shrewd man, has learned to rely on others after losing his power. At least now, he's unlikely to be destroyed due to arrogance. Odin seems to have noticed Thor's change and is filled with excitement, while Loki beside him looks rather silent, likely very displeased.
The situation in the main Marvel universe continues to unfold, and Thor, based on his knowledge, has made a decent living in the human world—a good start indeed.
Chapter 722 S.H.I.E.L.D. Underground Base
At night in the S.H.I.E.L.D. underground base, agents on duty would occasionally glance at him curiously, but Thor maintained a smile throughout. They knew this organization needed his help, so they were quite agreeable and didn't display the arrogance of the characters in the original movies. Before entering the gate, Thor subconsciously surveyed the imposing building before him. As the most powerful organization, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s strength was undeniable.
A massive S.H.I.E.L.D. logo hung high above the entrance, and the entire building possessed an artistic aesthetic unlike any other, a testament to its origins as a secret Egyptian organization. This was his second time here, but the last time he hadn't even entered, only left; his early days as a human were, needless to say, anything but pleasant.
Thinking back to what happened a few days ago, Thor was momentarily lost in thought. He realized that even the highest gods could one day become mortals, and in such a miserable way. In the few days since his transmigration, his emotions had calmed down, and he was beginning to adapt to his new identity and new life. The hardest hurdle was the experience he had just gone through upon his transmigration. In the underground base, the water bottle in the statue's hand flowed freely. In the circular reception area of the lobby, busy front desk agents were operating computers, making phone calls, and chatting with colleagues leaning against the counter. To the left of the lobby were the records room and the logistics office.
Looking up at the three-story building, Thor glanced at the left side. Through the two main doors, he saw numerous agents and soldiers going in and out, and of course, a large number of handcuffed people being led towards the door next to the reception desk. Thor looked around a few times, then turned and walked towards the small door on his right.
After entering, you walk through a long corridor, turn a corner, and then find a staircase leading directly to the second floor. The narrow corridor is filled with artwork, which is beautiful enough to make passersby pause and admire, but in a police station where efficiency is paramount, it feels too cumbersome. Having to walk such a long distance to get to the second floor is a relief. Fortunately, the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. has been renovated. For internal personnel, having to pass through here on missions would undoubtedly call into question their efficiency-first work ethic. Therefore, there are two other passageways on this side of the floor, which are not open to the public. This side mainly houses the field units, a considerable number of briefing rooms, and the intelligence analysis and logistics departments.
Along the way, Thor faced numerous curious glances from agents, but no one stopped him. Thor knew it was his ability to sense the power of Mjolnir that was working. Reaching the top floor, Thor immediately saw the department he was heading to—S.H.I.E.L.D.'s elite forces were located there; there were no problems.
The overall layout is quite different from the buildings in Asgard, except that it's almost twice the size, and each agent has their own desk. To the right of the door is the weapons cabinet, with three large metal boxes containing standard equipment needed for emergency operations. Bolton is usually in charge of its safekeeping, and he's also responsible for the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s equipment in the armory below.
Next to the weapons cabinet were S.H.I.E.L.D.'s independent electronic communication equipment, as well as surveillance equipment capable of connecting to most of the city's surveillance cameras. Spear was primarily responsible for operating the electronic equipment, while Sullivan was in charge of various security measures. S.H.I.E.L.D. was only doing so well because they had such personnel; otherwise, things might have gone wrong. Adjacent to the various equipment were two small changing rooms, with the agents' personal belongings lockers located outside. Directly opposite the door was the office area, occupying most of the space, with three rows of desks, four desks in each row.
Although S.H.I.E.L.D. is a 24/7 department, the cases they handle are different from ordinary cases. Even for typical serious cases, they rarely need to be involved; the Avengers can handle over 90% of special missions. Therefore, usually only staff on duty are present, making the S.H.I.E.L.D. offices generally feel somewhat deserted. Agents not on duty are free to manage their time. Most choose to train, while some pursue their interests. Of course, adequate rest is essential, but everyone must ensure they can be contacted immediately.
As soon as Thor entered, everyone in the room naturally turned their attention to him. On duty today was Vice Captain Hill, a renowned agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. As a powerful organization, she certainly possessed considerable strength. Upon seeing Thor enter, they stopped their conversation and curiously observed him. Hill was quietly sipping her coffee, her gaze seemingly fixed on Resident Evil, only turning towards him when Thor entered.
“Hello, Thor. We heard you are a legendary god, and at first we didn’t believe it, thinking it was a hoax. However, I feel it’s quite possible now,” Hill said with a smile, extending her hand to Thor.
“Hello, Hill.” Thor shook the other’s hand. He wasn’t sure what he could call him, after all, he wasn’t a god now, and he had his pride.
“Hello.” Thor smiled, trying to appear humble. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all. I’ll need your protection in the future.” “Hello.” An agent beside him walked over and shook hands with Thor. Hill followed behind, saying, “Welcome to the best team in the city.” “Thank you, thank you.” Thor could feel their warmth.
“The chief asked us to train him and then help us with some things. I don’t think he wants to exist in a world full of zombies.” Thor nodded. “Alright, now I’ll take him to the training grounds.” Hill said, walking back to his desk. “Let’s get to know these few today. We’ll introduce the others to you later when we have the chance. Although I don’t know who you are, it’s obvious you need to be on good terms with us.”
Thor waved to the people inside and followed Hill out of the S.H.I.E.L.D. office. He was just a mortal now, with no advantages, only a desire to survive. Apart from this city, the world was almost entirely infected. Thor desperately needed to get Mjolnir; he wanted to return to his former life, so he needed to keep striving to obtain what he needed.
To be fair, Thor isn't as arrogant as he is in the movies. After acquiring some information, he actually knows how to use his advantages, which is why he's doing so well. If Loki were here, he'd probably be easily killed. At this point, there's no shortage of anything but superheroes.
Chapter 723 Memories of the Past World (1)
As Bill and his group were about to reach their destination, they chatted about their past lives, and they were still filled with regret. They felt that if things hadn't turned out that way, they might have been living much better lives.
Everything was about to begin. The green flu, which had initially appeared only in the West Side, had somehow spread throughout Philadelphia, causing widespread panic. While CEDA had managed to barely contain the situation in the West Side, they were now completely unable to address the severe consequences of the green flu. Dr. Mark was also taken away by CEDA executives, and his projects were forcibly terminated and permanently frozen. A CEDA spokesperson said they would try their best to mitigate the severity of the epidemic and develop a cure as soon as possible. Although these words didn't convince people, they did manage to calm their anxieties. CEDA plastered the streets of Philadelphia with notices urging people to seal their doors and windows and avoid contact with suspected infected individuals. Mercy Hospital also began working on a cure as quickly as possible, but progress was extremely slow. The team took away almost all reports about the virus.
Mercy Hospital was overflowing with patients suspected of being infected with the virus. Officer Carlisle was under immense pressure; Philadelphia was gripped by the terror of a serial killer case. This week alone, the nineteenth person had been murdered, all with the same method of death: forcibly torn apart, bleeding to death, and their bodies left mutilated, as if they had been eaten, with only limbs remaining. Moreover, there was more than one perpetrator; it was preliminarily determined to be a team. Faced with this completely unsolved case, Carlisle felt a headache coming on. But looking at the familiar crime scenes, he felt nauseous, as if a fragmented memory was returning. Carlisle drove back to the police station, back to his office, and, based on the fragmented memory, found a notebook containing all the information from cases he had handled. He remembered never telling anyone that he had secretly recorded these confidential documents, but seeing the torn pages at the end of his notebook, Carlisle felt that there was a conspiracy behind it all…
Two days ago, Louis stood at the window, looking out at the desolate streets of Philadelphia, making a phone call. Louis: "Please don't tell me you're on sick leave." Ray: "Yes, no, Louis. I'm fine now, and I intend to stay so." Louis: "For God's sake, Ray." Ray: "Louis, listen, I don't mean any offense. I usually really like your 'half-full glass' optimism. It's gotten us through a lot, hasn't it?" Louis: "Ray..." Ray: "But this time, I swear to God, you're absolutely 100% overly optimistic, and what's in the other half, I don't know, maybe it's all pee!" Louis pleaded: "Ray, come back to work." Ray, in the dimly lit room, made the call: "No, Louis! Philadelphia has lost so many people, and the police have covered up so much. Maybe all those missing people are dead. And I don't want to get infected with that damn flu virus just to keep Franklin's damn database running." Louis walked away from the window toward the restroom. "Ray, you're not infected yet, and there aren't many people coming to work now, but there will be more infected people in your apartment." Louis walked past an office with only a few people working; one employee was packing up to leave. Ray: "It doesn't matter. I don't know if I've looked out the window, but it's like the end of the world now." Ray lowered his blinds, looking at the desolate street outside. Louis: "Okay, okay. But think about it carefully, okay? I mean, what if things don't turn out like this?" Ray: "Don't what?" Louis: "Maybe this ridiculous flu will disappear on its own within a week? If everyone is fine, and only the two of us stay calm and keep this place running, then it'll be you and me, right? I mean, you know, just the two of us. You know what will happen to us in the end?" Ray: "Infected." Louis said helplessly, "Come back to work, Ray. Trust me this once, I feel like things will get better." *Beep beep beep...*
Louis opened the toilet door, looked at his phone which was emitting a dead tone, and said, "Damn it." Louis opened the stall door and said, "Holy crap!" There was still someone standing by the urinal in the stall, but Louis didn't think much of it. A series of low moans came from outside, but Louis remained sitting in the stall fiddling with his phone: "Oh, damn it! Why is the server down again? I just fixed this thing..." There was a knocking sound outside the door, and Louis replied, "Hey! Someone's in there, buddy!" The knocking continued. Louis raised his voice impatiently, "Hey! Someone's in there! Someone's already squatting in there, idiot." The knocking became more intense, and Louis said angrily, "Fine, what are you doing? Can you let me squat in peace for a bit? I'll be done in a minute! Wait a minute." Suddenly, a pair of shoes appeared under the door, and Louis said strangely, "You... uh, are you okay, buddy?" Suddenly, the shoes disappeared, replaced by a large pool of blood. Louis was terrified. Mustering his courage, he stood on the toilet, holding onto the stall door and looking down. He saw only a gnawed corpse and a large pool of blood. Louis said, "Damn it." Suddenly, Louis turned around, and a person with blood at the corner of their mouth appeared. The person immediately grabbed Louis, who screamed, "Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Louis held onto the door with one hand and tried to stop the crazed person with the other. The zombie immediately lunged at Louis's neck. In desperation, Louis used his hand to block the zombie's entire head. The zombie bit Louis's arm, and Louis screamed in pain. Louis kicked the zombie away: "Take your hands off me!" The zombie immediately turned and bit Louis's hand again, grabbing Louis's neck with its other hand and shoving him to the ground. Louis watched the approaching head, his hand finding the metal box containing toilet paper. Louis forcefully snapped it off and smashed it against the zombie's head. The zombie swayed to the side, but Louis smashed it again with all his might, finally cracking its skull. The zombie lay limply on the ground. Louis gasped for breath; he had never imagined death could be so close. Louis walked out of the restroom, looking at the blood-soaked office, and went to the window where he had just stood. Beside him lay a recently deceased employee. Louis felt a headache coming on as he looked at the chaotic scene on the street, and the pain in his arm began to make him restless. Louis slowly leaned against the window, watching the apocalypse begin to unfold.
Hi! You are dialing Louis's number. I'm not here right now, but I wanted to let you know that everything is fine. Please leave a message after the beep, along with your name and the symptoms of your computer problem...
Chapter 723 Memories of the Past World [1]
As Bill and his group were about to reach their destination, they chatted about their past lives, and they were still filled with regret. They felt that if things hadn't turned out that way, they might have been living much better lives.
Everything was about to begin. The green flu, which had initially appeared only in the West Side, had somehow spread throughout Philadelphia, causing widespread panic. While the EDA had managed to barely contain the situation in the West Side, they were now completely unable to address the severe consequences of the green flu. Dr. Mark had been taken away by EDA executives, and his projects were forcibly terminated and permanently frozen. An EDA spokesperson said they would try their best to mitigate the severity of the outbreak and develop a cure as soon as possible. Although these words didn't convince people, they did manage to calm their anxieties. The EDA plastered the streets of Philadelphia with notices urging people to seal their doors and windows and avoid contact with suspected infected individuals. Mercy Hospital also began working on a cure as quickly as possible, but progress was extremely slow. The team took away almost all reports about the virus.
