Mercy Hospital was overflowing with patients suspected of being infected with the virus. Officer Carlisle was under immense pressure; Philadelphia was gripped by the terror of a serial killer case. This week alone, the nineteenth person had been murdered, all with the same method of death: forcibly torn apart, bleeding to death, and their bodies left mutilated, as if they had been eaten, with only limbs remaining. Moreover, there was more than one perpetrator; it was preliminarily determined to be a team. Faced with this completely unsolved case, Carlisle felt a headache coming on. But looking at the familiar crime scenes, he felt nauseous, as if a fragmented memory was returning. Carlisle drove back to the police station, back to his office, and, based on the fragmented memory, found a notebook containing all the information from cases he had handled. He remembered never telling anyone that he had secretly recorded these confidential documents, but seeing the torn pages at the end of his notebook, Carlisle felt that there was a conspiracy behind it all…

Two days ago, Louis stood at the window, looking out at the desolate streets of Philadelphia, making a phone call. Louis: "Please don't tell me you're on sick leave." Ray: "Yes, no, Louis. I'm fine now, and I intend to stay so." Louis: "For God's sake, Ray." Ray: "Louis, listen, I don't mean any offense. I usually really like your 'half-full glass' optimism. It's gotten us through a lot, hasn't it?" Louis: "Ray..." Ray: "But this time, I swear to God, you're absolutely 100% overly optimistic, and what's in the other half, I don't know, maybe it's all pee!" Louis pleaded: "Ray, come back to work." Ray, in the dimly lit room, made the call: "No, Louis! Philadelphia has lost so many people, and the police have covered up so much. Maybe all those missing people are dead. And I don't want to get infected with that damn flu virus just to keep Franklin's damn database running." Louis walked away from the window toward the restroom. "Ray, you're not infected yet, and there aren't many people coming to work now, but there will be more infected people in your apartment." Louis walked past an office with only a few people working; one employee was packing up to leave. Ray: "It doesn't matter. I don't know if I've looked out the window, but it's like the end of the world now." Ray lowered his blinds, looking at the desolate street outside. Louis: "Okay, okay. But think about it carefully, okay? I mean, what if things don't turn out like this?" Ray: "Don't what?" Louis: "Maybe this ridiculous flu will disappear on its own within a week? If everyone is fine, and only the two of us stay calm and keep this place running, then it'll be you and me, right? I mean, you know, just the two of us. You know what will happen to us in the end?" Ray: "Infected." Louis said helplessly, "Come back to work, Ray. Trust me this once, I feel like things will get better." *Beep beep beep...*

Louis opened the toilet door, looked at his phone which was emitting a dead tone, and said, "Damn it." Louis opened the stall door and said, "Holy crap!" There was still someone standing by the urinal in the stall, but Louis didn't think much of it. A series of low moans came from outside, but Louis remained sitting in the stall fiddling with his phone: "Oh, damn it! Why is the server down again? I just fixed this thing..." There was a knocking sound outside the door, and Louis replied, "Hey! Someone's in there, buddy!" The knocking continued. Louis raised his voice impatiently, "Hey! Someone's in there! Someone's already squatting in there, idiot." The knocking became more intense, and Louis said angrily, "Fine, what are you doing? Can you let me squat in peace for a bit? I'll be done in a minute! Wait a minute." Suddenly, a pair of shoes appeared under the door, and Louis said strangely, "You... uh, are you okay, buddy?" Suddenly, the shoes disappeared, replaced by a large pool of blood. Louis was terrified. Mustering his courage, he stood on the toilet, holding onto the stall door and looking down. He saw only a gnawed corpse and a large pool of blood. Louis said, "Damn it." Suddenly, Louis turned around, and a person with blood at the corner of their mouth appeared. The person immediately grabbed Louis, who screamed, "Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Louis held onto the door with one hand and tried to stop the crazed person with the other. The zombie immediately lunged at Louis's neck. In desperation, Louis used his hand to block the zombie's entire head. The zombie bit Louis's arm, and Louis screamed in pain. Louis kicked the zombie away: "Take your hands off me!" The zombie immediately turned and bit Louis's hand again, grabbing Louis's neck with its other hand and shoving him to the ground. Louis watched the approaching head, his hand finding the metal box containing toilet paper. Louis forcefully snapped it off and smashed it against the zombie's head. The zombie swayed to the side, but Louis smashed it again with all his might, finally cracking its skull. The zombie lay limply on the ground. Louis gasped for breath; he had never imagined death could be so close. Louis walked out of the restroom, looking at the blood-soaked office, and went to the window where he had just stood. Beside him lay a recently deceased employee. Louis felt a headache coming on as he looked at the chaotic scene on the street, and the pain in his arm began to make him restless. Louis slowly leaned against the window, watching the apocalypse begin to unfold.

Hi! You are dialing Louis's number. I'm not here right now, but I wanted to let you know that everything is fine. Please leave a message after the beep, along with your name and the symptoms of your computer problem...

Chapter 724 Memories of the Past World [2]

Two days after the infection, misfortune struck the entire city, including this small family. Caroline: "I only let her live with you for one semester, Wade. And she's about to drop out after just one semester." Wade replied: "Hey! I've got something to show for it! Well, some people shouldn't be sitting around doing nothing in this house all day." Caroline picked up her wine glass and sipped her cheap red wine, saying: "House? Wade, you just rented a run-down apartment!" Wade forked a piece of broccoli and said: "Oh? That's great, Caroline. So you and your new boyfriend Kevin can just laze around in my house without a problem?" Caroline said unhappily: "Say that again!" Zoe, wearing a white tank top, looked helplessly at the divorced parents and said: "Oh, that's good... For me, it's like everything is back to normal..."

Caroline looked at Zoe beside her and said, "Is this funny, Zoe? Do you know how expensive college tuition is?" Zoe closed her eyes and said helplessly, "I've received scholarships, Mom." Caroline continued, "Anyway, we sent you there so you could learn how to make movies." Zoe gave a helpless "hmm." “Stop… watching those movies all day in your dad’s apartment. Zombies, vampires… what the hell is that, honey?” Zoe replied, “They might be useful for research, Mom. Unless you insist on believing what the newspapers say, then there’s nothing I can do.” Caroline said, “Well… it’s just the flu!” Wade, standing nearby, said, “A degree in filmmaking is like gambling in Las Vegas, we all know that. Now she can join her dad’s team.” Caroline raised her voice, “Wade, hold on!” Wade continued, “You should teach her what range is and how to control herself in battle.” Zoe weakly said, “Listen to me…” Caroline said angrily, “My daughter wouldn’t just drive like a gentleman to make a living.” Zoe crossed her arms and muttered, “Still agonizing over this…”

Caroline was about to say something when Kevin suddenly appeared behind her, covered in blood. Caroline asked, "What happened? Kevin, what's wrong?" Caroline stood up and shielded Zoe behind her. Wade shouted, "Caroline! Get away from that guy! He's got... that damn flu! Hey! Man, aren't you going to get out of here?" Kevin continued walking towards Caroline and Zoe. Caroline yelled, "Oh my god! Wade, do something!" Zoe grabbed a small knife from the table and pointed it at Caroline, saying, "Mom! Come back! Hurry!" Wade also took out his own knife from his belt, saying, "Okay, I'm warning you one last time, man! Did you hear me? I'll count to three! Three! Two!" Kevin tackled Caroline to the ground and bit down on her neck. Wade quickly opened fire three times, but Caroline's carotid artery was still severed. Kevin's head was also blown apart. Slowly collapsing, Zoe helplessly watched her mother fall into a pool of blood. Wade and Zoe frantically pressed on Caroline's wound, but blood continued to drip from between Wade's fingers. Wade anxiously said, "Zoe! Call 9! Caroline? Honey, you'll be alright." Zoe couldn't believe this movie-like thing was happening to her; her mind went blank. Wade shouted, "Zoe! Call 9! Baby, you'll be alright." Caroline seemed to want to say something, but the blood blocked her throat, and she could only make gurgling sounds. Zoe was awakened by Wade's voice and ran to get her phone, crying, "Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!" Wade comforted Caroline, saying, "I'm here. Hang in there a little longer, the doctor will be here soon." Unconsciously, Wade's vision was blurred with tears. Although he might not be a good husband or a good father, he still instinctively worried about his family. Zoe said, "It's busy!" Wade said impatiently, "Keep fighting!" Caroline's struggles grew weaker and weaker, and she finally stopped struggling, her pupils beginning to dilate.

Wade finally broke down, clutching his dead wife and weeping. Suddenly, Caroline stirred in his arms and scratched Wade's face hard. Wade screamed, and Zoe, hearing the noise, rushed back into the room to find her parents fighting. Caroline, taking advantage of Wade's momentary lapse in attention, bit him hard on the face. Wade was pinned down by Caroline, crying out, "Zoe, help me!" Suddenly, Caroline stood up and looked at Zoe behind her. Zoe looked at her mother in confusion and said, "Mom? Please, please don't do this... don't..." *Thud!* Wade, covered in blood, opened fire. Caroline, shot in the head, collapsed, blood dripping onto Zoe's helpless face. Zoe helped Wade against the wall, saying, "Dad, you're about to go into hemorrhagic shock. Hang in there, I need to stop the bleeding right away. I'll go find a first-aid kit." Wade glanced at his wife, whom he had just killed, and said, "Lin, um... Zoe, do you remember those zombie movies we watched together when we were kids?" Zoe wiped away her tears, trying not to cry, and said, "Yeah, Mom was furious when she found them." "Do you remember in each movie, before someone who was bitten turned into a zombie, what happened to them?" "Do we have to shoot them all dead?" Zoe nodded, sobbing. Wade said, "We always joke about that, but now it's happening between us. You have to do it too, understand? I love you, Zoe." Wade handed the gun to Zoe, who held it to him but hesitated to fire. Wade said weakly, "Fire, Zoe!" Zoe cried, "I can't, I can't bring myself to do it." Wade grabbed Zoe's hand and pointed it at his head, saying, "Zoe, I want to hear you say 'I love you' one more time, Dad." Wade smiled foolishly, and Zoe's hand trembled as she said, "I love you too..." Bang! Wade pulled the trigger. This old man gave Zoe her last shooting lesson with his life. Zoe completely broke down, hugging the fallen Wade and crying...

Chapter 725 Memories of the Past World [3]

Philadelphia, two days after the outbreak, things were still relatively under control. Francis stood on a dark street, holding an LCD monitor, his back to a broken shop window. A patrolling policeman spotted Francis and shone his flashlight on him. Francis took a deep breath and said, "Okay, actually... I'm a policeman." The policeman said, "Okay, sir, why did you steal that LCD TV? Oh, it's worth $1299." Francis smiled awkwardly and said, "Um... this... is just evidence." The policeman drew his service pistol and pointed it at the broken shop window behind Francis, saying, "So what crime is this?" Francis smiled confidently and said, "Uh, you mean this? Okay, okay, don't shoot... because... I'm about to make my escape!" Francis threw the LCD TV at the policeman, who, before he could react, instinctively caught it. Francis quickly approached, took the handcuffs from the officer's waist, skillfully locked the officer up, and then casually tossed him into the patrol car. Francis picked up the LCD TV from the ground and said, "Thanks, officer." He then vanished into the night, leaving behind the curses of the police.

In a public restroom, Francis and a young, pretty girl were vomiting. The girl seemed to be enduring something when suddenly she felt nauseous and, leaning on Francis, started to vomit. Francis frowned and said, "Oh my God! Becky!" Becky stammered, "Oh God, Francis, I'm so sorry." Francis looked at his soiled shirt with regret and said, "My shirt!" Then, he smiled and said, "It's alright, it's just a shirt..." Francis was about to pull Becky out of the restroom when Becky said sadly, "Francis, wait a minute..." Seeing Becky's pained expression, Francis couldn't help but hug her. Suddenly, Becky quickly grabbed Francis's neck and bit him. Francis felt a sharp pain and pushed Becky away. Seeing the blood at the corner of Becky's mouth, Francis felt a chill run down his spine and turned to run out of the restroom. Francis, pressing his hand against the wound on his neck, yelled, "Oh! Damn it! Becky! You not only stained my shirt, but you bit me! What are you planning to do to me next? Don't even think about visiting me and marrying me when I'm in Ohio jail! Well, maybe it's not so bad." Becky swaggered towards Francis. Suddenly, Becky lunged at Francis, and Francis yelled, "Oh! Becky! Damn it!" *Bang!* A bullet from a double-barreled shotgun pierced Becky's vulnerable chest, sending her flying. A bearded man, reloading his gun, said to Francis, "What did I say?" Francis, still clutching his wound, replied, "What did you say? You just shot and killed Duke Sandra Becky!" The Duke closed her double-barreled shotgun and said calmly, "I didn't."

Francis, bewildered, said, "Duke! We all saw what you did! You—" The two henchmen behind the Duke exchanged glances. The Duke turned around and said, "She's mutated into a zombie, you idiot! Although I don't want to disturb your intimacy, this isn't as simple as the common flu those bastards at Ceda said." The Duke looked out from a house window. After Francis had his wounds treated, he walked behind the Duke and said, "This is what the government wants us to think about. At first, they tried to eliminate us. Then they built satellites, and then cell phones." The Duke said, "Look outside, Francis." Francis walked to the window and looked at the chaos on the street, the fleeing crowds, the man-eating monsters: "And then they…" "They've introduced Zombie Judgment Day! And then you've been fooled by all these rules and regulations. Now, who's the madman?!" The Duke said, looking at his double-barreled shotgun. Francis laughed and said, "Duke, it's you! But you're right about one thing: if everyone outside turns into zombies, then everyone is a zombie except us." Francis reached out towards the rooftop and said, "Zombies won't put us in jail. Zombies can't do anything; they're all idiots. That means... we can do whatever we want!" Danny said worriedly, "What if these things want to eat us..." Francis laughed loudly and said, "I know what I have to do, Duke! Danny! Bring that jukebox, and come with me!"

"

Francis kicked open the rooftop door and emerged carrying two backpacks full of guns and ammunition. "Everyone, grab your guns and beer! The atmosphere's going to get really heated tonight, and we're going to have a good time! And you! Where's the jukebox I asked for?" Danny and the Duke carried the jukebox onto the rooftop, while another henchman carried a case of brandy up. Danny said with difficulty, "Here it is! Buddy, can you explain why we had to carry this thing up two flights of stairs?" Francis pulled out an AK-47 and said, "Of course! Danny..." Francis looked at the street... At the scene of the massacre, Francis took a swig of brandy and said, "Don't you guys want some music to liven things up when you're at a party?" Danny said worriedly, "My God! There are thousands upon thousands of them!" Francis threw down the brandy, raised his AK, and accurately shot the brandy bottle. The high concentration of alcohol ignited from the heat of the bullet, and the street instantly turned into a sea of fire. On the rooftop, the four men kept pulling the triggers, firing hot bullets into the bodies of zombies. The orange muzzle flashes illuminated Francis's eyes as he shouted, "997! 998!..."

On the other side of the mission, Bill, who had just emerged, staggered back to his apartment. He opened the door and dragged a locked box from a hidden corner. Bill tried several times to unlock it but failed. "Calm down," he said, "calm down." With difficulty, Bill opened the box. Inside were an old American military uniform, a pair of somewhat worn American military boots, a will for his family, and a group photo taken with his comrades in Vietnam. Bill quickly put on the boots, donned the green beret underneath, and removed the top part, revealing M16 parts underneath. He quickly assembled the M16, loaded a magazine, and looked at it gently, saying, "Back to fighting alongside you again, old buddy." Bill walked out of the apartment building, looked at the infected outside, and forced himself to stay focused. He steadied his M16 and pulled the trigger. The orange muzzle flash illuminated his aged back, announcing to others that this sharp blade was unsheathed…

Perhaps he didn't know that he would be transported to another timeline to continue the battle. Everything was just beginning, and there was nothing that could be done.

Chapter 726 Memories of the Past World [4]

Ten minutes later, Bill walked silently down the dark street. Now that the infection had begun, the situation could worsen. Philadelphia was in chaos; a city without power was like a giant without life. Bill's only support was the tactical flashlight hanging from his M16. His vision began to blur and distort rapidly. His aging body couldn't withstand the effects of the anesthesia. Bill muttered to himself, "Am I going to die here?" As if all his strength had been drained, Bill leaned against the wall of a building, his vision almost completely blurred. Bill seemed to see his old teammates waving to him. Bill was so tired, so very tired. He stretched out his hand, wanting to grasp the ghosts left behind in Vietnam. Suddenly, Bill's former captain appeared: "Damn it, Bill! What are you doing? You can't fall down now, you still have a mission!" Bill's confused mind was jolted awake by his captain's words. Bill struggled to his feet and said, "I can't fall down yet, there are still people who need me." Bill took a deep breath of the cold night air, trying his best to continue forward despite the effects of the anesthesia. His aged figure gradually disappeared into the streets of Philadelphia at night.

On the third day after his infection, Bill fell asleep against the wall, his hand on his gun. As dawn approached, he opened his eyes. After a night's rest, Bill had clearly regained his fighting ability. He quickly checked his M16 and his dwindling ammunition, deciding to secure fresh water and food first. Returning to the streets, Bill discovered dangers he hadn't noticed the night before. A cold sweat broke out on his back; if he had fallen asleep there, he would have become the zombies' dinner. Bill quietly bypassed several potential dangers, searching for a small shop that could sustain his survival. Looking at the smashed food shops, Bill shook his head. It seemed a lot had really happened the night before; the closer he got to the city center, the more spent shell casings, bullets, and corpses he saw everywhere. Bill began to doubt whether coming to the city center to look for food was a wise choice. Suddenly, Bill spotted a red shadow flashing in a dark alley ahead. Bill thought he was seeing things, but a zombie also clearly noticed it and swayed towards where the red shadow disappeared. After Bill looked around and found no danger, he quietly crept up after it...

Zoe hurriedly grabbed a red shirt from her apartment, but time was running out. She had already spotted many zombies in the hallway. Zoe quickly climbed out of her window onto the fire escape and headed out onto the street. She found everything in chaos; the street was filled with zombies and terrified people. A zombie approached Zoe, and she fired her M92 pistol. The bullet struck the zombie's head at close range, shattering it like a watermelon. Zoe felt a wave of nausea. More and more zombies surrounded her. Zoe fired three more shots, taking down several that approached her. Fear gripped Zoe. She desperately tried to move her legs, but her body was completely out of her control. Just as a zombie was about to pounce on her, a man appeared…

Zoe weaved through the dark alleyways, trying to avoid contact with the zombies. She witnessed several tragedies, but she couldn't help. She only had three bullets left in her gun. Helping them might even drag her down with her. But she could never forget the boy who pleaded for her help, whom she ignored. She watched him being torn apart, his eyes filled with resentment. Filled with guilt, Zoe retreated into the darkness. She could only keep running, keep running, to prevent the terrible guilt from weighing on her already fragile nerves. It was almost dawn, and Zoe was starting to show signs of dehydration; her stomach was growling uncontrollably. Seeing a food store that hadn't been looted yet, Zoe excitedly slipped inside. Pushing open the door, she found it pitch black. Zoe turned on the flashlight she'd found on a policeman's corpse and carefully examined the food on the display case. Zoe grabbed a bag of bread and a bottle of water and hid in a corner, eating slowly. Only when she bit into the bread did she realize she was alive. Zoe pulled out a mirror from her jeans pocket and looked at herself. Her once-white face was now covered in muddy grime. Zoe smiled helplessly, then suddenly sensed movement behind her. Zoe stood up, turned around, and raised her pistol and flashlight. The flashlight illuminated a mangled face, dragging its emptied abdomen as it slowly approached Zoe. Zoe realized she couldn't retreat. She had chosen a corner of a display case as her hiding place, thinking it would be safe, but now it might cost her her life. Zoe held her breath, trying to steady herself, aimed at the zombie's head, and fired in one swift motion. The zombie, shot and lying motionless, echoed through the small food shop. Zoe suddenly heard a menacing voice; a zombie had been hiding behind her all along. If this zombie hadn't lured her out, she might have been attacked! Zoe quickly turned around, but the zombie pounced on her even faster. In desperation, Zoe fired two shots, both hitting the zombie. However, the zombie seemed oblivious to the pain and lunged to bite Zoe's neck. Zoe shouted, "Jack!" Bang! An M16 bullet pierced the zombie's brain, sending it flying. Through her blurred vision, Zoe saw an old figure…

Zoe watched the approaching, aged figure blurry in her vision, her eyes slightly closed, unaccustomed to the darkness and disoriented by the sudden beam of a tactical flashlight. Bill reached out his hand, and Zoe, lying down, stared blankly at the elderly man in military uniform. Bill shook his hand and said, "Time to get up, little girl. Do you want to be a zombie's lunch here?" Zoe stood up as if waking from a dream. Bill chuckled, took a cigarette from his jacket pocket, and lit it. Zoe said softly, "Thank you for saving me. Are you a soldier?" In the darkness, Bill's cigarette glowed and faded. He took a deep drag and said, "Sort of. What's your name, little girl?" Zoe said, "My name is Zoe. What's yours?" Bill leaned against the display case and said, "Bill."

Chapter 727 Memories of the Past World [5]

The two stared at each other silently for a few minutes. Suddenly, Zoe's stomach growled. Bill looked at Zoe, but she didn't move, only clutching her lower abdomen. Bill suddenly realized and said, "Sorry, I meant no harm. Please help yourself." Zoe breathed a sigh of relief, walked to the display case, grabbed some bread, and started eating. Bill, seemingly from somewhere, grabbed a bottle of brandy and walked over to Zoe, slowly drinking it. Bill asked, "Zoe, are there any familiar faces still alive?" Zoe's expression dimmed slightly as she said, "No." Bill looked at the rising sun and said, "I'm sorry." Zoe smiled and said, "It's alright, but it's good to have someone to talk to now." Bill looked at Zoe and said, "Would you like to come with me?" Bill thought that if she didn't want to, she wouldn't force him, but to his surprise, Zoe agreed. Bill wasn't surprised. Perhaps it was the M16 in his hand that played a role, or perhaps it was because of his military status. After all, what could an old man do in the apocalypse? Bill chuckled self-deprecatingly. Zoe seemed to see through Bill's thoughts and said, "I think two people might be easier to survive in this apocalypse than one, right?" Bill changed the subject, saying, "We need to get out of here quickly; once daylight comes, we'll have nowhere to hide." Zoe quickly found a small backpack in the grocery store. The store owner and his family seemed to have left in a hurry; everything was in disarray. Zoe gathered some fresh water and bread, then took a machete and put her pistol in the backpack. Zoe asked, "Bill, where do we go next?" Bill looked at the streets in the city center and said, "I don't know..."

In another corner of Philadelphia, Louis walked through the shadows of a building, holding a blood-stained baseball bat. He nervously moved his hastily bandaged arm. Louis had made it this far thanks to the baseball bat in his hand, which had already killed three infected people. Louis fled his workplace. The world was in complete chaos; zombies, once only seen in movies, had become a reality. The streets were filled with man-eating demons and terrified crowds. Burning vehicles chilled the cold night. Louis ran back to his apartment in terror and locked himself in his room. He trembled uncontrollably under the covers. Suddenly, he heard a knock at the door. Louis became even more terrified, shaking and knocking over the bedside lamp. The thing outside seemed to hear the noise and pounded on the door. Louis told himself, "He's found me! He's found me!" The knocking grew more urgent. A paranoid expression appeared on Louis's face. He slowly picked up a baseball bat from his storage cabinet and walked out of his room, muttering repeatedly, "He's coming to kill me! I have to kill him first! I have to kill him first!" As Louis's hand touched the doorknob, fear surged through him once more. Louis crouched down again, clutching his head. The knocking gradually stopped. Louis let out a sigh of relief and slowly sat down on the floor, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. He chuckled to himself, saying, "Louis, don't be silly, it's all fake. Maybe they're filming a movie on the street, and you even had a cameo role. I wonder if it'll be cut in post-production, haha." Louis buried his head between his legs and curled up. He was terrified. What his old friend had said was really happening! What the hell! What was going on? These things had suddenly started happening. Would he die here any second? Thinking this, Louis hugged himself tightly, trying to find a fragile sense of security. Suddenly, Louis noticed some liquid flowing into the apartment from in front of his door. Puzzled, he slowly reached out, dipped his hand in it, and held it to his nose. A strong smell of blood assaulted his senses, and fear exploded in Louis's mind. He quickly hid on the sofa, pressing a cushion over his head…

A dozen minutes later, Louis sat slumped on the sofa, his eyes glazed over. He stared at the baseball bat he'd tossed aside in the shoe cabinet. Louis was numb with fear, no longer feeling it. Two little voices were talking in his head. White: Louis, you have to get out! You can't stay here any longer. Maybe you can't break through the house now, but in zombie movies, who survives to the end by staying inside? Black: Louis, don't go out. We'll stay here. We've already seen what happens outside. Maybe you'll be the next one to die there. Louis finally decided to go outside. His hands trembling, he picked up the baseball bat from the ground and walked out of the apartment. A mangled corpse lay in front of Louis's apartment. Louis had no time for fear; an infected person was at the corner of the stairs and had already spotted Louis approaching. Louis's will to survive overwhelmed his fear. Facing the charging infected, he hit a home run with all his might. The zombie's head slammed against the wall and exploded. Louis gasped for breath. Looking at his hands, Louis laughed in terror, "I did it! I did it!" Then Louis vanished into the darkness...

The rock music of Midnight Riders echoed through the rainy Philadelphia night, accompanied by the roar of AK-47s firing continuously. Golden bullets flew from the chambers of AKMs, the barrels emitting a mournful sound, the orange flashes illuminating Francis's face. At this point, everyone sighed deeply; they had experienced far too many battles. They could have lived their lives in a daze, until the day they were killed—perhaps that was the life many others led.

Another magazine emptied, and Francis tossed it aside, picked up another, and loaded it into his AKM. At that moment, the Duke grabbed Francis's hand, which was about to fire again, and said, "Relax. I know you're scared, Francis. You say you're not afraid of death, but you're more afraid than anyone else, and you don't want to die." Francis retorted loudly, "Duke, are you out of your mind? I'm afraid of death! I'm Francis! I'm the man who fears nothing!"

The Duke sighed and said, "I know you, Francis. It's just your pride acting up. You're clearly scared, but you put on a convincing act." The world was finally more or less settled by then.

Chapter 728 Memories of the Past World [6]

Francis pointed his AK at the Duke and said, "Duke! Don't mess with me! I'm not a coward!" The Duke, equally enraged, retorted, "Francis, if you dare, shoot! Damn it!" Danny, trying to break up the fight, said, "Hey! Guys, we're on the same side." Francis, trembling, finally moved the AK away and said, "Damn it! Duke, how do you know everything?" Raindrops pelted Francis's seemingly strong but actually fragile body. The Duke sighed softly and said, "Francis, I've known you for a long time. You can't hide anything from me." Francis looked at his now-hot AK, at the bodies shattered into pieces below, and felt a wave of nausea wash over him. He leaned against the wall and vomited...

Francis sat in a chair, the cold rain lashing his disheveled hair and streaming down his resolute face. He took a gulp of brandy, the strong liquor burning like a fire dragon in his stomach, the contrast between the strong liquor and the cold rain seeming to tear his seemingly strong body apart. Francis began to feel fear, like a cold snake coiling around his neck, making it hard to breathe. The Duke, looking at the burning Philadelphia, said, "The end of the world has come. We will lose it in a dignified way." Danny chuckled dryly, "We won't die, right? We still have the government. They won't abandon us, right?" Francis muttered, "Maybe the government can't even guarantee its own safety?" In the distance, a black figure leaped between buildings, emitting piercing screams, constantly approaching Francis and his group. In his orange vision, Francis and the others became distorted, the black figure emitting a mocking laugh, like a hunter finding its prey.

At midnight, Danny slumped back in his chair, handing his M14 rifle to another man. His shift was over; they needed to hold out until government rescue efforts arrived. The Duke seemed to have found the government's search and rescue channel; the person on the other end said they would arrive in 20 minutes. Francis, still in his chair, said, "Danny, it's best not to get your hopes up too high." Danny replied, "I still hope I can survive. I don't want to die, and nobody wants to die, right?"

The Duke spoke into his pager, "Grey, what's the situation upstairs? Is there any danger? We need to be careful, or it won't be fun anymore. The world isn't what it used to be."

Gray: "Safe? What's that? Damn it..." He frowned at the sight outside; it seemed to be the same thing he was worried about. After the crisis broke out, the situation was quite different. Various mutated creatures had made the world's situation extremely bad, to an uncontrollable degree. The world might be nearing its end because of that situation.

Duke: "Grey, answer me! What's wrong? Has something come over? Damn it, why are there so many of them? Maybe we need to find another way here."

The Duke picked up his double-barreled shotgun and went upstairs. Francis grabbed his AK and followed him, stepping onto the stairs and turning back to say, "Danny, stay here. Let us know if anything happens." Danny took the pager tossed to him and said, "Got it." The Duke and Francis went up to the rooftop, but didn't see Gray. The Midnight Riders' rock music was still playing, and rain was washing over the roof. The Duke patted Francis on the shoulder and walked to the side. Francis gripped his AK tightly and walked to the other side. Just then, the door downstairs was gradually broken open, leaving a hole big enough for one person to fit through. The first zombie slowly crawled out of the shadows. Lightning flashed across the rainy night, blinding Francis. A dark figure swept past him. Francis, looking at the pitch-black rooftop, switched on his tactical flashlight, calling out as he went, "Gray! Where are you? Answer me!" The Duke's shouts echoed from the other side. Francis accidentally kicked something, illuminating the spot with his flashlight. A damaged pager, stained with blood, was visible. Francis immediately realized Gray might have been attacked. He quickly switched off the safety on his AK, cautiously scanning his surroundings. Turning past a solar panel, Francis spotted the Duke. The Duke stared at the mangled corpse on the ground. Francis recognized Gray's clothes. Suddenly, a scream came from behind! Francis tried to turn around but felt a tremendous force knock him down. Lightning flashed across the night sky, and Francis saw a torn, death-like face hidden under a hood. The monster seemed to be smiling. Francis had never imagined death would come this way; perhaps prison was his best destination. The monster extended its sharp claws. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. The Duke's double-barreled shotgun fired, forcing the monster to bounce away from Francis. The Duke reached out and pulled Francis up from the ground. Francis picked up his dropped gun and said, "Thank you." The Duke looked around at the darkness and said, "Let's get rid of this monster first." He shouted into his pager, "Danny, come help!" But Danny's painful scream came from the pager. The Duke slammed the pager to the ground. The monster, still lurking in the darkness, approached Francis and the two of them, letting out a sharp cry. As the shadowy figure closed in, Francis quickly turned and fired. The AK bullet struck the monster, which jumped back in pain. Just then, another zombie appeared on the path to the rooftop. Francis and the Duke were heartbroken to see Danny, now a zombie. The Duke then shot Danny, knocking him to the ground, and ran around him down the rooftop. After a struggle, Francis and the Duke escaped from the house. Then, another scream erupted. A powerful force knocked Francis down but then tackled the Duke. The monster stabbed the Duke in the chest. Francis turned to fire, but the Duke shouted, "Run! Francis!" Francis stood still. The Duke tried to say something, but the monster's claw pierced the Duke's head. The Duke died right before Francis's eyes. Fear engulfed Francis like a tidal wave, and he ran frantically into the darkness...

When disaster strikes, no one can predict the final outcome. Everything changes gradually over time, and often it becomes irreversible.

Chapter 729 Memories of the Past World [7]

Run! Run! Run! The night, like the scythe of death, reaped lives one by one. Never look back, or you might be next. The rain poured down, washing over the ravaged earth. Francis didn't know how long he had run, never daring to look back. The Duke lay dead before his eyes, this terrifying experience replaying itself repeatedly. Suddenly, Francis lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground. He screamed, "Aaaaaah! Damn it! Come on!" Then he pulled the trigger into the darkness. The muzzle flash of the AK illuminated Francis's face, contorted with terror. One magazine was empty. Gunshots echoed in the silent, rainy night. Smoke billowed from the AK. Francis was stunned. Then, he covered his face with one hand and wept bitterly, tears mingling with the rain as they streamed down his clothes. Suddenly, there was a noise in the alley beside him. Francis instinctively sat up, took the magazine out of his AK, and reached for his lower back. His hand found nothing. Francis cursed himself for being such an idiot and firing his last magazine. With no other option, Francis put the empty magazine back into the AK, drew the knife from his leg, slung the AK over his shoulder, grabbed his tactical flashlight, and walked towards the shadowy figure…

*Thump!* Another zombie fell to Louis's baseball bat. This was the third infected he had killed. Louis felt that killing was quite easy for him—or rather, killing zombies was quite easy. Louis leaned against the wall, feeling rather good, when suddenly a loud AK-47 burst of gunfire startled him. Louis yelled, "Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Louis quickly hid behind a crate, looking around at the darkness. He said to himself, "The government's rescue team has arrived. Damn it, has this damn flu finally been contained? No, the firing must be to kill infected. I was bitten by an infected. Maybe I'll become infected too. No, I can't go out. I'll definitely be shot." Louis buried his face in his arms in terror. The gunfire finally stopped. Louis peeked out and looked around, saying, "Are they gone? Maybe I'll be rescued, but I've given up that chance." A soft sobbing sound came from the rain. At first, Louis thought he had misheard, but someone was really crying. Louis felt he was no longer alone; at least he had found a survivor. Was he crying? Perhaps he needed his help. Louis slowly made his way towards the source of the sound. The crying grew clearer and clearer. Louis was relieved; finally, he found a man outside the alley. But Louis quickly stopped. He noticed the AK-47 in the man's hand. Perhaps he was infected. "I can't go out. He has a gun. He might kill me." As Louis thought this and tried to back away, he accidentally kicked open a soda can. Although the sound was soft, it caught the man's attention. Fear gripped Louis once more, and he ran desperately into the darkness behind him...

Francis noticed something disappear into the darkness. Had that monster been following him all along? The thought terrified Francis. The Duke's death flashed before his eyes once more. Gathering his courage, Francis declared, "I will avenge the Duke!" He followed the shadowy figure into a building, then vanished without a trace. A flash of lightning streaked across the night sky. Francis glanced at the dagger in his hand and entered the building. Thump, thump, thump... Francis's heavy footsteps echoed in the silent room, pounding against Louis's heart. Louis felt his heart clench with fear, making it hard to breathe. Louis watched the man slowly walk in through the door, his grip on his baseball bat tightening. He felt cold sweat beading on his hands. The man began searching the rooms one by one, seemingly aware that Louis was hiding in the darkness. Francis began opening each closed room, searching for the monster. Francis vowed to avenge the Duke. Looking at the messy rooms and the long-dead bodies, Francis was overwhelmed with mixed emotions. Perhaps one day he too would be in a small room, awaiting the end of his life. Suddenly, he noticed a shadowy figure moving upstairs. Francis immediately ran up to the second floor, shining his flashlight on the figure—just a chair made of a table and chairs. Francis realized he had been tricked. Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through the back of his head, his vision went black, and he collapsed forward…

Watching the man frantically searching downstairs, Louis suddenly had an idea. He quickly arranged some chairs and tables from the second floor under the moonlight streaming through the window, gradually creating a table and chair arrangement that resembled a human figure. Louis then stood at the edge of the second floor. Sure enough, the man downstairs noticed him and quickly walked upstairs. Louis hid in the darkness, raised his baseball bat, and as Francis walked upstairs and looked at the dummy figure, Louis moved, knocking Francis to the ground with a single blow. Louis felt excited; he had won again. But Francis got up again, blood flowing down his wound. Francis's eyes turned bloodshot as he lunged at Louis, his dagger flashing as he shouted, "Die! Monster!" Louis quickly retreated, his first strike missing, followed by a second. Louis dodged again, then a blow struck Francis in the back. Francis staggered back in pain before charging at Louis again, this time with a frenzied expression. Louis screamed as Francis tackled him to the ground. Staring at the dagger so close, Louis's mind went blank. Francis grabbed the dagger and aimed it at Louis's head.

Louis closed his eyes and shouted, "I surrender! I surrender! Okay, that's enough, no need for this." The blade stopped a foot above Louis's eyes. Francis asked in confusion, "You're a survivor?" Louis shouted, "That's right! I'm a survivor, just like you! Don't kill me!" Louis shook his head in terror. Suddenly, Francis felt dizzy and fainted on top of Louis...

Chapter 730 Memories of the Past World [8]

Francis dreamt of the Duke's death, seeing his own helpless expression and the monster's cruel smile as it pounced on him. Suddenly, Francis awoke with a start, his back drenched in cold sweat. A sharp pain shot through the back of his head, and he remembered being ambushed by another survivor. After checking that he wasn't harmed, Francis breathed a sigh of relief. He instinctively touched his head and found a bandage wrapped around his forehead, along with some basic first aid. Francis was puzzled; the survivor had ambushed him, so why was he being bandaged? Just as Francis was still wondering, Louis walked in carrying an AK and a flashlight. Francis involuntarily closed his eyes, not yet adjusted to the bright light. Louis squatted down and asked, "Feeling better?" Upon hearing it was a man, Francis bluntly asked his question, "Feeling better? Why did you ambush me?" Louis scratched the back of his head and smiled awkwardly, saying, "Sorry, I initially thought you were going to kill me, and I was indeed going to be killed by you, so let's call it even." Francis helplessly spread his hands and said, "Where is this? Where did you get these emergency supplies?" Seeing that Francis wasn't pursuing the matter anymore, Louis sat down on the floor reassured and said, "This is..." "It's a small apartment building. I risked my life to get the emergency medicine back. Your gun was out of ammo; it almost killed me." Louis tossed the AKM on the floor. Francis said, "Thanks, buddy. My name is Francis. What's yours?" Louis replied, "My name is Louis." After getting to know each other for a while, Francis scratched his head and said, "We can't stay here any longer. We don't have any supplies to survive." Louis said, "I know there's a large supermarket nearby, but it's full of infected people. I can't go in alone. Maybe two people can..." Francis said, "Then go for it! I don't want to starve to death in this godforsaken place."

Zoe followed Bill cautiously, wary of zombies that might leap from the shadows. They had already suffered a few losses, but the zombies had all fallen to Bill's M16, which was like the Grim Reaper's weapon. Bill removed a magazine and casually tossed it aside, sighing softly at his dwindling ammunition. A cool breeze swept through Philadelphia in the early morning, causing Zoe to shiver. Bill took a cigarette from his pack and lit it. Looking at the little girl shivering slightly in the wind, Bill thought that if he were married with children, his daughter might be that age too. A surge of paternal love welled up within him. Bill took off his green military uniform and draped it over Zoe. Zoe felt deeply moved, sensing the return of her fatherly sense of security. She noticed Bill, wearing only a vest, smoking and panting heavily in the cold wind, his muscles tense as he tried to ward off the chill. Zoe took the bottle of brandy out of her backpack and handed it to Bill. Bill took it, smiled, and said, "This is a rare find!" He unscrewed the cap and took a sip. The high concentration of alcohol warmed Bill's entire body. Bill then inverted his bottle, poured a small glass of brandy, and handed it to Zoe, saying, "A little will warm you up." Zoe took the cap. She and Wade used to sneak beer and drink it all at once. Zoe tilted her head back and downed the brandy in one gulp. The high concentration of alcohol felt like a fiery dragon, sweeping wildly through her body. Zoe felt her throat burning, a tightness in her chest, and soon her face flushed red. Bill smiled and said, "Girls shouldn't drink like boys, you know?" Zoe patted her chest and nodded...

Francis and Louis crept into the supermarket. A cold wind blew, and Francis couldn't help but sneeze. Louis looked around nervously and said, "Keep it down! Quiet! Quiet!" Francis patted Louis on the shoulder and said, "Relax, buddy. You're not exactly quiet either, are you? You're still fine." Louis still looked around nervously and said, "The entrance is just ahead. Are you sure we want to go in?" Francis took the first step and said, "What's the problem..." Francis walked through the entrance and saw infected people walking everywhere in the supermarket. He even saw several of the monsters from his nightmare jumping on the ceiling and load-bearing pillars. Louis followed him quietly into the supermarket and said, "Now?" Francis said, "Damn it! Louis, I think we've come to the wrong place."

Francis, pulling Louis behind a fallen shelf, watched the infected scurrying past in the darkness. Holding a small knife, Francis whispered to Louis, "We basically have no chance of getting into this dangerous place." Louis said, "Maybe we can sneak in quietly?" Francis looked at the zombies in the distance and said, "Mr. Louis the Rat, tell us your plan. How are we going to get in?" Louis smiled and said, "Mr. Francis the Rat, I scouted a route into the supermarket before you came, but it's extremely risky, so I definitely can't get in alone." "Francis asked Louis, 'Where's the passage you mentioned?' Louis pointed to a ventilation duct opening outside a few shelves and said, 'That's our final destination. When I first got here, there weren't so many zombies. I don't know why there suddenly are so many. This has increased our danger significantly.' Francis licked his chapped lips and said, 'Louis, let's do it!' Louis, holding a baseball bat, said, 'I know this plan is feasible. Are you sure you don't want to wait...?' Francis slapped Louis on the shoulder: 'What are you afraid of! We're going there to survive!'"

Louis wanted to say something, but Francis had already slowly slipped away into the darkness. Louis watched as Francis nimbly dodged several wandering infected, then rolled and hid behind another shelf nearby. Louis took a breath and said, "Louis, you can do it!" Louis also slowly ran out from behind the shelf, quietly passing behind one infected, then another. Louis excitedly quickened his pace, watching Francis approach so close.

Chapter 731 Memories of the Past World [9]

Suddenly, a female infected woman darted out of the darkness. By the time Louis spotted her, it was too late to brake; he collapsed, clutching the zombie. Looking at her torn face, Louis stammered nervously, "Damn...ghost!" The female zombie immediately reacted, trying to bite Louis's neck. Louis quickly got up, swinging his baseball bat in his right hand. The crisp sound of a skull being smashed echoed throughout the supermarket. Louis gasped for breath, taking several deep breaths to calm himself. But then he saw Francis waving nervously at him. Louis glanced around; infected people were already paying attention. As the infected approached Louis, he yelled, "Francis, run!" A large number of infected noticed the two living people and began to converge on them. Screams echoed from the rooftop. Francis grabbed Louis and ran desperately towards the ventilation ducts. "Damn it! That thing is here!" Louis asked, "What is it?" Before Francis could explain, several dark figures flew past them, tearing apart several infected in front of them before turning back to stare at them. Louis couldn't believe his eyes; the monster had easily torn the infected apart. Good heavens, what was that thing?! Francis, knowing its power, continued running faster towards the ventilation ducts. Several dark figures flew past them repeatedly, tearing apart any approaching infected, like hunters protecting their prey. Suddenly, Louis lost his balance and fell to the ground. Francis, seeing the ventilation duct not far away, abandoned Louis and ran towards it as fast as he could. Francis knew that as long as he could get into the ventilation duct, everything would be safe. Just as Louis was about to get up, a tremendous force pushed him to the ground. Louis looked at the dark shadow covering him—a man hidden in the shadow of a hood, but Louis could clearly see his mangled face and red eyes. Fear quickly overwhelmed Louis, and he screamed, "Francis, help me!" Francis immediately approached the ventilation duct, but hearing Louis's cries for help, he turned back to help Louis. As Louis watched the monster extend its sharp claws, about to slice his throat, Louis closed his eyes in terror. Suddenly, he heard what sounded like someone running towards him, and the pressure on him eased. Francis's voice reached Louis's ears: "Louis, you bastard, how long are you going to stay here?" Louis looked at Francis holding the AKM and said, "Francis, you're really back?" Francis laughed and said, "Is it too late for me to go back now? I think I saved an idiot." After the monster was sent flying, it lay on the ground and let out a sharp cry. Francis said, "Damn it, did that shot with the butt of the gun anger it?" Francis quickly pulled Louis up. The monster pounced on Francis again. Francis mustered his courage and swung his butt of the gun again, sending the monster flying once more. Francis seized the opportunity and swung his knife, stabbing it into the monster's head. Francis then kicked the monster's corpse aside. Francis looked at the lifeless monster lying on the ground and sighed softly. But the screams coming from all around reminded Francis and Louis that there was more than one monster. Louis and Francis ran quickly towards the ventilation duct, shadowy figures flashing past them. They finally reached the bottom, but the duct was over two meters high. Francis exclaimed anxiously, "Damn it! It didn't look that high!" Louis said, "Lift me up! Quick, Francis!" Francis nodded, placed his hands together against the wall, and Louis seized the opportunity, stepping on Francis's hands to climb onto his shoulders. Louis successfully opened the ventilation duct and crawled inside. Francis said, "Louis, you need to lose some weight." Louis was on top. Holding out his hand, he said, "Say that again and I won't pull you up." Francis immediately shut up, took a few steps back, and used the friction to push against the wall, grabbing Louis's hand. But then another sharp scream rang out. Out of the corner of his eye, Francis saw a monster extending its sharp claws in mid-air. If it hit Francis, he would be cut in two. Francis shouted, "Louis! Pull me up!" Louis also saw the dark figure and used all his strength to pull Francis up the ventilation duct, but the dark figure was clearly faster. Francis was in despair. Suddenly, an M16 shot rang out in the silent supermarket. The dark figure was shot in the head and fell below the ventilation duct. Francis finally climbed up the ventilation duct. Before he left this damned place, he saw that there were two people who had fired the shots...

Bill led Zoe deeper into the city in search of traces of survivors. Bill moved slowly forward, his body taut like an arrow on a bowstring. Zoe followed cautiously behind, carrying the flashlight she had found. Bill slowly crouched down at the corner ahead, his fists clenched. Zoe understood this meant crouching down to be on guard, a skill Bill had taught her in their spare time, in case they couldn't speak. Zoe slowly approached Bill, who looked at the large group of infected not far ahead and said, "This used to be a battlefield, and there were quite a few policemen here." Zoe looked at the few policemen zombies passing by and said, "How can you be so sure this was a battlefield? It's just a few more infected policemen." Bill pointed to a bunker in the distance, its view obscured by zombies, and said, "This might have been a police checkpoint, used to receive civilians or something, but it's obvious it's been breached, and there was a pretty bad fight." Zoe took out her phone, turned on camera mode, and zoomed in. She could see that the bunker was filled with mangled, gnawed corpses, many policemen's bodies, and a wrecked vehicle behind it, still burning. Zoe instinctively covered her mouth. Too many people had died in this battle, too many happy families destroyed, too many lives ruined. Bill, seeing Zoe trembling, pulled her into his arms and said, "Zooe, you must know, all of this is irreversible. But I can assure you, in this apocalypse, if you want to survive, you must abandon your womanly compassion. Anyone who wants to harm you will have to step over my body first." Zoe slowly hugged Bill tighter, already regarding him as a father figure. Bill looked kindly at Zoe's long hair and said, "Wait here for me, I'll be right back."

Chapter 732 Memories of the Past World [10]

Zoe said, "Bill, what are you doing? No, I can't let you take such a risk." Bill watched as Zoe's image slowly merged with the person in his memory. He stroked Zoe's hair and said, "Silly girl, I have to make sure you have the means to survive in this apocalypse." Zoe shook her head and said, "I can't let you take such a risk!" Bill hugged Zoe and said, "Okay, I won't go." Zoe seemed relieved. Bill's hand transformed into a knife and slashed at the back of Zoe's neck. Zoe's vision went black, and she collapsed into Bill's arms. Bill placed Zoe in a safe spot, then slowly smoothed the wrinkles on his uniform. He took a cigarette from his jacket pocket, lit it, and took a deep drag. The cigarette invigorated his slightly weary spirit. When did he learn to smoke? He couldn't remember anything, only that the first cigarette was given to him by his captain, whom he had left behind forever in the Vietnam War. He could still hear the captain's words echoing in his ears: "Corporal Obek, learn to smoke one. This is advice from a veteran who has been through the war." Bill couldn't help but smile, as if he had rediscovered that exhilarating feeling he had on the battlefield. Bill picked up his M16 and stepped around the corner. Looking at the street filled with hundreds of infected, Bill shouted, "Damn it! I'll show you the honor of an American soldier!" All the infected turned and ran towards Bill, who was standing on the street. Bill's cigarette glowed and dimmed as he steadily pulled the trigger of his M16. With each flash of muzzle flash, an infected fell, struck in the head. Bill's memories flashed before his eyes. He saw his instructors in the army teaching these greenhorns how to use guns. Bill proudly said, "Damn Instructor Dort, if you hadn't died, you would have laughed if you saw the soldier you thought was the worst in the class firing such a consistent bullet trajectory!" The infected charged at Bill one after another, ignoring their comrades falling in pools of blood. They stepped over the corpses and charged forward without fear or hesitation. Bill skillfully removed his empty magazine, quickly replaced it with a full one, and continued to steadily pull the trigger. The muzzle flash illuminated Bill's eyes, as if he were back in that dark and hopeless battle. Stray bullets occasionally grazed Sergeant Bill's head. Sergeant Bill had used his head to peek out and kill another enemy. Bill felt his whole body trembling; he might die like that enemy in the next minute. The captain shouted and slapped Bill: "Damn it! Bill, you're a man! You're a soldier! What is a soldier's honor? It's dying on the battlefield fighting the enemy. Don't let this damned woman's mercy ruin you." Bill shook his head to dispel these fleeting memories and continued firing. The barrel of the M16 emitted a near-intensity burst of gunfire. Despite the sounds of agonizing cries, Bill continued firing. Half the infected had already fallen. Just as Bill was about to remove the magazine and reload, an infected closed in. Bill had no choice but to throw his M16 behind him, pull out the bayonet from his leg, and plunge it into the body of the foremost infected. Bill recalled being kicked by Lieutenant Chris in the mud, and saw Chris's stern expression as he said, "Bill! You can still do it! Stand up like a man. If you can't defeat me, you don't deserve to be a soldier." Bill grabbed the bayonet and charged into the infected horde, relentlessly ending their lives with a combination of military melee and bayonet fighting. Soon, Bill was overwhelmed...

Bill stood atop the hill of infected corpses, his body riddled with wounds, his resolute figure like that of an ancient Greek god of war fallen to earth. Bill's mind flashed back to the moment he finally managed to knock Lieutenant Chris into the mud with a powerful punch, Chris's satisfied smile. It wasn't until after Chris's death, when he was training new recruits himself, that Bill realized Lieutenant Chris had deliberately let him win, to teach him the precious spirit of never giving up. Bill smiled silently, then took all the weapons from the bunker back to Zoe's hideout. Zoe slowly awoke, looking at the wounded Bill before her, furious. She complained about being knocked unconscious. Bill smiled helplessly and said, "This old bone of mine still has to do all this hard work." Then he fainted in Zoe's arms...

That summer, Bill strolled through the streets of Philadelphia with a pretty little girl beside him. Although Bill's hair was slowly turning gray, he still smiled like a big boy, holding the little girl's hand and playing on the sidewalk. The little girl was exquisitely beautiful, and Bill could already see what she would look like when she grew up. Although she was not Bill's biological daughter, she was the most precious gift entrusted to him by his comrade-in-arms. Her name was Kelly O'Beck, and she was a young and beautiful girl.

Hours later, Zoe laboriously moved Bill to a safe place. Gently brushing her dusty hair aside, she looked at the injured Bill and felt a pang of heartache. Zoe thought to herself, "He was willing to sacrifice his life for me to live, so could I do the same?" Suddenly, Bill's expression tightened, and he called out, "Kelly, Kelly, Kelly." Zoe was confused. Who was Kelly? It must be very important to Bill. Bill suddenly opened his eyes, looking blankly at Zoe, and said, "Kelly, Kelly, you're back? Don't leave me again, Kelly." Zoe said, "My name is Zoe, Bill, are you alright?" Bill hugged Zoe excitedly and said, "No, you are Kelly, my Kelly, don't leave me again." Zoe wanted to clarify something, but she felt her shoulder was wet. Zoe turned to look at Bill, and Bill was crying. A soldier forged in the crucible of war was crying, crying very sadly. Zoe also felt the immense sorrow within Bill. Zoe was very confused. Did she resemble the Kelly that Bill had described? Why would he mistake her for the Kelly in Bill's heart? Bill reached out and stroked Zoe. Zoe could feel Bill's hand trembling. Bill murmured, "You're not Kelly, you're not." Zoe wanted to say something more, but Bill instinctively pushed her away, pulling himself between his knees and muttering, "My Kelly, where are you? Where are you?" Zoe looked at Bill; he was like a wounded cub, lonely and helpless. Zoe didn't know how to comfort Bill at this moment, so she could only gently hug him and tell him she was still by his side. Bill seemed to feel the warmth of another person and gradually fell asleep in Zoe's arms. Zoe looked at the sleeping Bill and said, "Bill, do you still have some unspeakable secrets, or memories buried deep in your heart that you don't want to face?"

Chapter 733 Memories of the Past World [11]

At noon, a ray of blinding sunlight shone through the window and into Bill's eyes. Bill subconsciously stirred, slowly opening his eyes to find himself lying on Zoe's lap, having left the battlefield. He immediately sat up, the sudden movement startling Zoe awake. Zoe looked at Bill as he sat up and asked, "Bill, are you feeling better?" He then moved his numb arms. Bill calmed himself, trying to recall what had happened a few hours earlier, but he couldn't remember anything. It seemed his body was consciously avoiding that memory. Bill turned to Zoe and asked, "Zoe, thank you for bandaging my wounds. Did I say anything stupid while I was unconscious?" Zoe thought to herself: Stupid? Bill, you certainly were. She shook her head, saying, "What did you say? You didn't say anything." Zoe knew Bill didn't like bringing up that incident, and she didn't want to reopen his wounds. Bill felt much better, picked up his M16 and slung it over his shoulder, saying, "We need to keep going. We've wasted too much time here." Zoe also slung her small backpack over her shoulder and picked up her MP5 from the ground, saying, "Okay, Bill." Bill was the first to walk out of the house. The slightly scorching midday sun shone on the desolate streets of Philadelphia. Bill looked at a large supermarket in the distance and said, "We've found our destination. That's the supermarket. Maybe there will be survivors there."

Zoe grabbed her MP5 and ran ahead. Bill unexpectedly followed behind, seemingly lost in thought. Zoe felt a chill run down her spine looking at the street teeming with infected. This place looked like a former survivor shelter, now a camp for the infected. Zoe asked Bill, "Can we say this place is hopeless?" Bill replied, "But we still need to go to that supermarket to resupply with water and food, don't we?" Zoe looked at her MP5 and said, "Yes, but can we get through safely with just these two guns?" Bill said, "Who said we're going straight through?" With that, Bill moved into a dilapidated house. Zoe stood behind him, scanning the surroundings. Bill kicked open the door, turned on his tactical flashlight, and quickly surveyed the darkness for any danger. Zoe slowly entered first, quickly scanning the surroundings to make sure there was no danger, then looked at Bill and said, "Tell me your plan." Bill slung his M16 over his back, quickly climbed to the second floor, broke a window, and climbed out. Zoe looked at the edge of the wall, where she could barely stand, and said, "This is the plan you were talking about?" With nimble agility, Bill climbed onto an air conditioner unit and then onto the roof. Zoe asked, "How am I supposed to get up there? I'm not as agile as you." Bill jumped back onto the air conditioner unit and held out his hand: "Big girl, come on up!" Zoe slowly moved to the edge of the bed, then jumped up and grabbed Bill's hand. Looking at her body now completely suspended in mid-air, Zoe said, "Luckily, I don't have a fear of heights." Bill pulled Zoe onto the air conditioner unit and said, "Big girl, you should lose some weight. As a girl, you're a bit overweight." Zoe retorted irritably, "You old man, my weight is perfect, you know?" Suddenly, the air conditioner unit began to buckle under the pressure. Bill climbed onto the roof first, then pulled Zoe onto the roof, and finally, the air conditioner unit couldn't withstand the weight and fell down. The loud noise echoed through the quiet street like a stone thrown into still water. Bill yelled, "Damn it! We've been spotted! Run, Zoe!" Zoe ran with Bill on the rooftops. Bill nimbly leaped over a two-meter gap, but Zoe stopped. Bill turned back and said, "Jump!" Zoe took a few steps back and said, "I can't." The infected began climbing the walls onto the roof. Bill said, "Hurry, Zoe!" Zoe looked back at the rooftops where infected had already climbed. The will to survive finally overcame her fear, and she took a running start! Jump! Zoe successfully landed on the rooftop but lost her balance and fell towards the ground. Zoe closed her eyes in terror. Just then, a pair of hands pulled Zoe back. Bill forcefully pulled Zoe onto the roof and said, "Run!" The two continued running. Infected people fearlessly jumped over the rooftops one by one, falling off one by one, but some still managed to jump over the rooftops successfully. Bill quickly climbed the wall, using a relay method, and reached back to a gap on the third floor of the supermarket. Zoe looked back at the infected getting closer and closer, struggling to leap up the wall. Bill precisely grabbed Zoe's hand and pulled her up to the third floor. The infected was a step too late and crashed into the wall. Bill said, "Now you can't get up here." Zoe jumped into the dark third floor of the supermarket first. The surroundings were very messy, with shopping carts, shopping bags, and personal belongings everywhere. Bill also came in and said, "Looks like this place isn't all that orderly either." At this moment, a sharp scream reached their ears. A dark figure was chasing two survivors downstairs. Zoe wanted to shoot to help them, but Bill pressed down on Zoe's gun and slowly raised the muzzle. The dark figure's head appeared in the iron sights of the M16. His breathing was steady, and his index finger began to slowly tighten. Just as the dark figure was about to grab Francis, Bill's gun fired...

Francis slowly crawled out of the ventilation duct in the second-floor management office. The darkness made his eyes slouch, and Louis kept pushing him from behind. Francis complained, "Louis, can't you slow down? What if there are infected people outside?" Louis said, "Do you think the ventilation duct smells good? It stinks like garbage that's been fermenting for 100 years." Francis said helplessly, "The city's power system has been damaged, otherwise it wouldn't smell so bad." Louis took out his flashlight from his pocket and turned it on. A faint beam of light appeared in the darkness. Francis walked around the management office and said, "This is the management office. If the supermarket's own power system can be restored outside, maybe we can contact the outside world for rescue." Louis found the building's architectural plan in the dark: "This supermarket is an H-shaped building. We are currently on the left side, and the supermarket's power system is in the middle. We need to go back to the lobby on the first floor to reach the power room in the middle."

Francis listened for a while, then said with a headache, "How could this damn designer set up a power generation facility like this?" Louis slowly opened the door to the control room and was about to walk out when Francis quickly grabbed his hand and said, "Don't you want to live? You're just going to walk out like this?" Louis said, "I don't care how many infected people are outside right now. If I don't eat something now, I'll definitely starve to death here, understand?"

Chapter 734 Memories of the Past World [12]

Just then, Francis's stomach started growling. "Maybe you're right this time, Louis," he said. Louis ignored Francis, grabbed his flashlight, and crept out. The control room was located not far from the second-floor staircase. Louis found many wandering infected and rotting corpses. He patted Francis on the shoulder and said, "Our plan is to find a backpack to carry supplies, food, and fresh water. If necessary, we can find some handy weapons. We now know there are other survivors here besides us. I can't be sure if they're good or bad, but we have some weapons." "It still gives us a better chance of survival or negotiation." Francis complained, "Louis, they saved me." Louis said irritably, "Maybe that shot was aimed at you? That monster just blocked the fatal bullet for you, and you're grateful for that?" Francis wanted to say something more, but Louis stopped him: "Sorry, Francis, put away your methods of befriending thugs. This is the apocalypse; there's no such thing as brotherhood anymore. Only trust yourself, understand?" Francis walked in front of Louis and said, "I know, Louis, you really talk too much."

Ten minutes later, Louis came out of the clothing store. He had changed into a new white collared shirt and specially chosen a new brown tie. He carried a hiking backpack on his back, which contained some painkillers and a first-aid kit that he had taken from the pharmacy. He was holding a brand-new machete in his hand. Francis had changed into a new jacket and was also carrying a large hiking backpack, which contained compressed biscuits and water that he had taken from the grocery store. Louis and Francis met up. Louis asked Francis, "What should we do next?" Francis said, "Right now, we can only try to get to the first floor and reach the power room." Louis said, "But there are so many infected people on the stairs leading down to us." Francis gripped his machete tightly and said, "We have no choice but to risk our lives, don't we?" Francis quickly approached the stairwell. An infected person had their back to Francis. Francis forcefully grabbed the infected person's head and twisted it violently. The infected person collapsed, powerless. Louis also dealt with an infected person next to Francis, his newly changed shirt now stained with bright red blood. As they descended the stairs, more and more infected people appeared before Francis and Louis. Louis tried to quickly eliminate an infected person who hadn't yet noticed him, but he still felt his situation becoming increasingly dangerous. He wished he could immediately grow four more arms to help him. Francis shoved an infected man with his arm and then plunged his machete into the back of the man's neck. The infected man twitched a few times and then stopped moving. However, this action had already alerted too many infected men on the first floor. The infected men kept rushing towards Francis. Louis frantically dealt with the infected men who appeared in front of him, shouting loudly, "What do we do now, Francis!" Francis chopped off an infected man's arm and said, "Now, we can only run to the power room. May God bless us!" Louis pushed away the infected men who approached him again and moved closer to Francis, saying, "When do we run?" Francis stabbed an infected man in the body, turned around and kicked the corpse away, saying, "Now!"

Louis and Francis began to break free from the swarm of infected. Francis easily knocked down several more infected blocking his way and quickened his pace. Louis could feel his adrenaline coursing through his veins with fear. The two quickly reached the central passage indicated on the map, but Francis and Louis stopped simultaneously. Louis felt fear creeping up his neck like a venomous snake, rendering him speechless. Francis turned back, looking at the increasingly close infected, and said, "Damn it." The central passage had been shut down by the supermarket's security system; a metal gate blocked their path and their hope of survival. Louis looked at the corpse crushed in two by the metal gate; perhaps it too had tried to reach safety, but tragically died at this crossroads. Just as Francis and Francis were filled with despair, a man and a woman emerged from the shadows on their right, armed with guns, and opened fire on the horde of infected...

The sound of the M16 echoed through the huge supermarket, killing the shadowy figure but also bringing unnecessary trouble to Zoe and Bill. Bill said, "We can't even keep a low profile, they're coming!" Infected individuals began to appear one after another from one aisle. Bill began to fire steadily, and Zoe tried to pull the trigger of her MP5. Bang! The MP5 bullet pierced through an infected in front, and Zoe's arm was bruised from the recoil. Zoe gritted her teeth and continued to pull the trigger. The MP5 roared and spat fire, and infected fell one after another. Zoe hurriedly changed the empty magazine and clumsily loaded the full magazine. Fortunately, Bill had taught her how to use this M16 beforehand. Otherwise, Bill might not have been able to use this self-defense weapon at all. Bill took the nearly empty bottle of brandy from Zoe's bag, glanced at it regretfully, and said, "I haven't even had enough yet, and you're giving it all to me!" Bill threw the bottle with all his might, and it shattered precisely in mid-air. The heat of the bullet ignited the high concentration of alcohol, and the third floor was immediately engulfed in flames. Bill pulled Zoe, who was still shooting, and said, "We have to get out of here quickly, before the fire suppression system is triggered." Bill and Zoe quickly ran towards the dark side of the building. At this moment, the building's fire suppression system was finally triggered by the smoke, spraying out a large amount of water to extinguish the fire. Only the charred corpses and fallen bullet casings proved that a battle had just taken place here.

Bill sat in a restaurant chair, M16 in hand, cautiously observing his surroundings. Suddenly, a nimble figure emerged from the darkness. Zoe leaped out, carrying several uncooked hamburgers and fries, along with a few Cokes. Looking at the food Zoe brought, Bill said, "Do you young people really like eating junk food like this?"

Zoe, carrying her MP5 on her back, said, "This is delicious food, Bill, you should try this burger, it's really good." Bill reluctantly picked up a burger, took a bite, and couldn't taste anything, muttering, "Eating this is worse than eating compressed rations."

Chapter 735 Memories of the Past World [13]

Zoe, holding a glass of Coke, pointed at Bill with the straw and said, "Grandpa! You need to learn to accept new things. You're not in the army anymore; don't bring your military habits into real life." Bill's expression softened as he repeated Zoe's words, "Yes, you're not in the army anymore; don't bring your military habits into real life." Zoe took a sip of her cold Coke and said, "I'm sorry, Bill." Bill shook his head and said, "It's okay. Actually, you're right. I really should accept some new things." He then took a big bite of his hamburger.

Zoe reappeared before Bill, now dressed in a different outfit. She turned to him and said, "How do I look, Bill?" Bill felt as if Kelly were saying to him again, "Father, how do I look, do I look?" A pang of pain shot through him, but he didn't show it, saying only, "It suits you very well." Zoe listlessly picked up her backpack and headed towards a nearby pharmacy. Bill followed slowly behind, muttering to himself, "If only there weren't these dangers." After finding enough medicine, Zoe suddenly discovered a dead body in a room, but its radio was still ringing. Bill picked up the radio and listened: "This is the safe evacuation point at the West Shopping Mall. If anyone is still alive over there, please answer me. We are safe here. We have enough ammunition, food, and medicine. As long as you can get through the iron gate in the middle, we will be safe." Zoe said happily, "Besides those two people from before, are there any other survivors here? Hey, Bill, did you hear that? They're safe." Bill listened quietly and then pressed the answer button: "This is survivor Bill O'Beck. Is it safe over there? Please respond." There was no response, only the repeating of the previous message. Bill put down the radio and said, "It's set to an infinite loop broadcast. Maybe there's no one left over there, maybe it's already been captured. If there's a radio here, it means this used to be a safe point, but there's no trace of anyone alive here except for the dead." Zoe couldn't help but feel disappointed; the hope that had been rekindled was extinguished once again. Bill looked at the dejected Zoe and said, "But one thing is certain: we have to go down to the first floor and through the so-called iron gate. At least we have a target for our operation now, don't we?" Zoe smoothed the hair on her forehead and nodded. Bill hung the radio on his belt and led Zoe step by step toward the stairwell.

The sound of their footsteps echoed in the stairwell, two faint beams of tactical flashlights swaying slowly in the darkness. Zoe followed closely behind Bill, her finger on the trigger of her P5, ready to handle any possible emergencies. Bill and Zoe quickly reached the first-floor door. Bill's hand was on the doorknob, while Zoe stood behind, aiming at the door. Bill quickly opened the door and rolled forward into the lobby. Zoe followed, both ready to fire simultaneously, but only endless darkness met their eyes. Zoe breathed a slight sigh of relief, but then heard loud conversations and hurried footsteps from survivors in the distance. Bill and Zoe quickly hid behind a fallen wardrobe. Bill peeked out and saw one or two survivors running towards the iron fence, only to find themselves trapped. Dozens of infected were following behind them. Zoe asked Bill, "What should we do?" Bill showed Zoe with his actions, quickly running out of the darkness and pulling the trigger of his P5 to provide cover fire. Zoe also pulled out a wardrobe and began firing her P16, and infected fell one after another under the barrage of bullets.

Louis watched in horror as the infected drew ever closer, utterly helpless. His hope of survival was blocked by a damned iron gate on the other side of the door. Louis knew that if he couldn't come up with an effective way to deal with the situation, he and Francis would become the infected's dinner. Francis was still relentlessly pounding on the iron gate, and Louis could see the terror in Francis's calm eyes. Louis unconsciously gripped the machete in his hand; perhaps only with this weapon in his own hands could he find a semblance of security. Louis nervously asked Francis, "Francis, what do we do now?" Francis replied, "How should I know? Damn it, damn it, damn it." Just as Louis and Francis were preparing to fight the horde of zombies, the sound of a 16-shot came from the darkness on their right. A bullet was fired, knocking an infected person to the ground. Louis watched as an old figure emerged from the darkness. Bill steadily pulled the trigger, reaping the lives of the infected, the 16 in his hand as sharp as the Grim Reaper's scythe. Zoe appeared beside Bill and shouted loudly to Francis and the others, "Hurry! Come here!" Francis immediately ran towards Zoe, and Louis, who had been standing still for a moment, also sped up and ran towards Zoe as the infected drew closer. Bill began to resist firing, and waves of infected were brought to the ground. Zoe's P5 opened fire, shouting as she fired, "Hurry! We're here!" Francis was about to reach Zoe when suddenly a dark figure pounced from a corner upstairs, pinning Francis to the ground and extending its sharp claws to stab at Francis's neck. Francis could see his own terrified gaze reflected in the figure's eyes. The figure seemed to smile. Everything happened so suddenly; Zoe and Bill couldn't even fire. Francis closed his eyes in despair. Suddenly, Francis heard Louis... Francis yelled, "Damn it! Die!" Suddenly, the weight on his body lightened, and Francis saw Louis, his face covered in blood, kill the shadowy figure and extend his arm towards him. Louis said, "Buddy, now's not the time to sleep." Francis grabbed Louis's hand and said, "Thanks, buddy." Zoe moved closer to Francis and Louis, providing cover fire with her P5. Zoe and Bill retreated further and further, the bullet hell gradually becoming a straight line. Zoe opened the door to the stairwell, and Louis and Francis ran inside. Zoe shouted at Bill's retreating back, "Damn it! Bill, come in!"

Chapter 736 Memories of the Past World [14]

Francis found a crowbar in the stairwell and said, "If this old guy doesn't come in, I'll block this way." Zoe turned around and said, "You can't do this!" Louis said nervously, "Do you want to kill all of us for him alone?!" Bill quickly turned around and ran towards the stairwell. Francis walked to the door and shouted, "Hurry up! I'm closing it!" Bill shouted, "Close it!" Francis was about to close the door when Bill performed a forward roll and rolled into the stairwell. Francis nimbly wedged the crowbar into the door and locked it...

The four found a safe little hut to sit in. Louis and Francis sat together, Bill and Zoe sat together, and all four remained silent until Louis, unable to contain himself any longer, finally spoke up: "My name is Louis, and this is Francis." Louis pointed to Francis, who was lounging in a chair nearby. Zoe pointed to Bill and said, "This is Bill, and my name is Zoe. Hello." Louis smiled and said, "Finally, we see other survivors! That's exciting news." Zoe brushed her messy hair back and said, "Yeah, so what's next, Bill?" Bill, who was resting with his eyes closed, said, "We still need to get through this iron gate. We have to find the survivor camp on the other side." Louis exclaimed excitedly, "There's a survivor camp here? That's great! That's fantastic news!" Francis, with a roguish air, asked Bill, "Old man, you can see how many infected are down there. How are we supposed to get over there? Are we supposed to grow wings and fly over?" "We don't even know if there's a survivor camp on the other side. What if your information is wrong?" Bill said, still with his eyes closed. "If you doubt my decision, you can stay." Louis chimed in, "Thank you so much for saving us, and of course, we hope to leave this hellhole with you, don't we?" Francis stood up and approached Zoe with a flirtatious look, saying, "Would you like to have a drink with this beautiful lady?" Zoe shook her head, indicating no. Bill immediately grabbed his 16 from his back and pointed it at Francis, saying, "Buddy, stay away from her, understand?" Louis didn't understand why things had suddenly turned out this way and got up to try and mediate, but Bill quickly moved his mouth towards Louis. Louis nervously said, "Buddy, we mean no harm, can you calm down? Making a sound will only cause unnecessary trouble, won't it?" Francis walked past Bill indifferently and spat on Bill's shoe. Francis had never liked soldiers and thought they were all a bunch of bastards. Bill suddenly lunged and pulled Francis into his arms. Francis reacted quickly, turning to deliver an elbow strike. As if anticipating Francis's movement, Bill grabbed Francis's arm, pulled him back, and simultaneously kicked Francis's shin. Francis lost his balance and was about to fall, but Bill swiftly flipped him over, grabbed his hand, and executed an over-the-shoulder throw. As Francis spun around, disoriented, Bill's 16 was already aimed at his head. Louis quickly stepped in front of Francis, saying, "Calm down, calm down, we were wrong." Just as Bill was about to continue his lesson, the pager on his waist beeped.

"This is the Baker Supermarket survivor camp. Are there any survivors outside? Please respond, ver." Bill's pager beeped. He took it off and said, "There are survivors here. We're still on the other side of the iron fence. Can you raise the middle fence?" "How many of you are there? Has anyone been infected, or bitten or scratched by infected?" Louis was incredibly nervous. He looked at the wound on his arm where he had been bitten by a zombie. Bill glanced at the bandages wrapped around Louis's arm and the bandage on Francis's head and said, "No." Louis suddenly felt relieved after hearing Bill's words. If Bill had held a grudge over that little thing, he and Francis might have been stuck in this hellhole. “I understand. I’ll send my squad to find you. We’ll meet at the iron fence. Once my squad confirms everything is alright, they’ll turn on the supermarket’s power. At that point, you all need to retreat to the other side as quickly as possible, understand?” “I know. Please bring some 16mm and P5 ammo. We’ll protect ourselves.” “You have some?” “Yes, is there a problem?” “Phew, no problem, but don’t expect much ammo.” “I understand. That’s the end of the call, ver.” Bill put the pager back on his waistband and looked at Francis and Louis on the ground, saying, “Are you coming with us now, or staying here to find another way out?” Louis said anxiously, “We’ll go with you.” Bill was the first to walk out of the hut and into the darkness, with Zoe following closely behind. Louis slowly carried the injured Francis on his back, saying, “Damn Francis, I’ve saved you twice. If you don’t come back, I’ll haunt you even as a ghost.”

The stairwell door opened again. The infected outside had dispersed, wandering aimlessly. Suddenly, one of the infected noticed movement in the stairwell and immediately returned. Bill, wielding a military knife, pierced a zombie's chin and head, then kicked it away. Bill, knife in hand, stepped out of the darkness, followed by Zoe, who was guarding the area with a P5, and then Francis and Louis. Suddenly, several beams of tactical flashlights appeared from behind the iron fence. Bill quickly approached the fence, and a police officer emerged from behind it. Bill looked at him and said, "Are you the team that came to open the door for us? Hello, I'm survivor Bill." The officer, holding a 92F, said, "Hello, my name is Carlisle, I'm the head of the security team here." Bill nodded and said, "Officer Carlisle, where is what we need?" Carlisle waved his hand, and a young man carrying a bag appeared and tossed it to Bill. Bill checked it; there were three P5s and two P16s—not too many, not too few, enough to protect himself. Bill asked, "Officer Carlisle, what are we supposed to do with you?" Officer Carlisle smiled and said, "Bill, just protect your squad. As long as you're still alive when we get back after starting the generator, that's all that matters."
