Chapter 70 The Twins' Choice
Chapter 70 The Twins' Choice
Viktor walked out of the classroom and headed down the corridor toward his office.
Just as I rounded a corner, I bumped into two furtive red-haired figures.
They were peering out from behind a suit of armor, looking towards the other side of the corridor, as if they were hiding from someone or searching for something.
Those strikingly similar red hairs, and the mischievous aura that you could feel even from their backs, could only be George and Fred.
The twins obviously heard the footsteps and turned around at the same time.
When they saw it was Victor, their eyes lit up simultaneously, and their faces instantly blossomed into bright, even fawning smiles, as if they had seen their dearest Galleon bag—no, as if they had seen their most interesting adventure guide.
They immediately abandoned their armor and, like two Nifflers discovering Galleon, darted in front of Viktor, flanking him from both sides.
"Good afternoon, Professor Scamander!" George said with a grin, his tone rising.
"The weather's really nice, perfect for learning something new, right, Professor?" Fred added, blinking.
The two asked in unison, full of anticipation, "About what you promised to teach us last night—when can we begin? We can't wait!"
Looking at the two faces in front of me, filled with anticipation, curiosity, and eagerness.
Viktor had a sudden inspiration and remembered the alchemical item he had worked on that morning in the Crown Space, which was basically complete but needed a lot of practice to perfect and test.
These two pranksters in front of me are clearly highly skilled, have some alchemical background, are quick-witted, unafraid of failure, and even enjoy challenges and explosions—all evident from their endless stream of pranks.
Isn't it just readily available, excellent, and enthusiastic "labor force" and "experimental assistants"?
Moreover, teaching them, watching them grow, and guiding their talents in a more constructive direction is itself a very fulfilling thing.
A plan quickly took shape in Viktor's mind.
He gave a more gentle, but knowing, smile, his gaze sweeping over the twins' faces.
"It seems you're quite interested, gentlemen Weasley," Victor said slowly.
"Of course!" "Absolutely!" The twins nodded vigorously.
"Very well. Well then, I'll give you two choices." Victor held up one finger.
"First, I can dedicate two hours each weekend to tutoring the two of you. The content can include advanced applications of Patronus Charm, more refined Transfiguration techniques, or other practical, but perhaps less textbook-like, magic."
The twins looked at each other. This option sounded good: two hours of dedicated tutoring every week!
But they didn't nod immediately because the professor said there were two options.
Victor held up a second finger, his smile deepening: "Second—I can go to Professor McGonagall and change your nightly detention time from cleaning the trophy room or wiping chamber pots to mine."
"You'll be confined here. You'll need to help me conduct some alchemical experiments. From material handling and basic rune engraving to assembling and testing some components, it might be tedious and a little dangerous, but of course, I'll ensure basic safety."
"In return for my teaching," I will systematically instruct you in various alchemical knowledge throughout the process, from basic principles to advanced techniques, from common recipes to some—less common—unconventional applications.
Upon hearing the word "alchemy," the twins' eyes instantly lit up like two little suns!
They all instinctively held their breath for a moment.
Viktor noticed that both of them glanced at his seemingly ordinary briefcase with remarkable speed and subtlety.
Clearly, they had long coveted and yearned for the magical space inside Victor's suitcase.
Seeing their gazes, Victor chuckled inwardly and continued speaking, his tone full of seduction.
"Furthermore, if you work hard enough, have real talent in this area, and can help me complete the experimental tasks well—"
He paused deliberately, looking at the twins' ears that were almost standing up.
"I could also consider teaching you some basic principles of creating extended spaces. For example, how to stabilize a space with a seamless expansion spell, how to set up internal environmental magic, and even how to add a disguised entrance to a small space."
The twins' mouths gaped slightly, their faces filled with shock and ecstasy, as if to say, "Merlin's stinky socks! What did we just hear?!"
But it's not over yet.
Viktor seemed to have casually thrown out an even bigger bait.
"Besides that, I have some knowledge of magical techniques from all over the world. Eastern talisman drawing and paper doll making, African voodoo doll making and curse protection, Far Eastern ice golems, ancient rune variants from all over Europe—as long as you are interested, you can find time to discuss and learn after you have helped me complete the core alchemy experiments."
"Oh, right," Viktor said as if he had just remembered, uttering the most shocking words in the most casual tone.
"When I was young, I had the privilege of studying under Master Nicolas Flamel for a period of time. Although it was only a superficial understanding, I did manage to jot down some of his unique tips and insights on alchemy. If you perform well enough, I wouldn't mind sharing a little of it."
"Nico Flamel!!!"
The twins gasped in complete astonishment.
Their eyes were wide open, they were gripping each other's arms, and their bodies were trembling slightly with extreme excitement.
A legendary alchemist! Creator of the Philosopher's Stone! A legendary figure who has lived for hundreds of years! His unique skills!
This temptation is like a nuclear bomb for any alchemist interested in alchemy, especially for creative and adventurous young wizards like George and Fred!
Without any hesitation, and without even needing to make eye contact.
George and Fred Weasley shouted almost in unison, using all their strength.
"The second one! Professor! We choose the second one! Confinement! Alchemy! We'll learn from you!"
The sound was so loud that it attracted the curious glances of several Hufflepuff students passing by at the other end of the corridor.
Viktor was not surprised by this answer at all.
After all, any wizard with a bit of common sense and ambition about the magical world would find it hard to refuse the words "instruction from Nicolas Flamel".
