Chapter 71 Your Evidence, My Midnight Snack
Captain Evans' face flushed red and then turned pale.
The two technicians behind him had unconsciously put down their sampling equipment and stared intently at the oven.
The aroma of garlic butter and seafood in the air was irresistible to those who had just finished their maritime patrol.
This no longer resembles a law enforcement scene.
"Sir," Evans took a deep breath, trying to appear professional, "we have procedures in place; the samples must be taken back to the guard's lab for analysis."
His tone was harsh, but his eyes couldn't help but drift towards the golden-brown abalone in Shen Fei's hand.
Shen Fei smiled, knowing that the other party was making a last-ditch effort.
"Of course." Shen Fei placed the abalone on the table next to him, then picked up a large snow crab leg, cut it open with pliers, and revealed the crab meat inside.
Shen Fei pushed the crab meat onto a plate and handed it to Su Man.
"However, Captain," Shen Fei said without looking up, "my suggestion still stands. If your test results are problematic, I accept it. If they are, then tell me who reported it."
He added, "Or, we can just eat this evidence now. If someone gets poisoned or grows a third hand, it's all on me. You can save yourself the trouble of doing any testing."
Pete chuckled beside him, then quickly covered his mouth.
Captain Evans's temple throbbed.
Evans has been in this business for twenty years and has never seen anyone so arrogant.
But the other party's arrogance was based on a kind of confidence that left him with no way to refute it.
Just then, James, the manor's butler, came over with two waiters, carrying ice buckets and chilled beer.
"Sir, madam, guests, the ice-cold beer is ready."
James politely opened a bottle of wine for everyone, even placing one in front of Evans and his two men.
The foam hissed and shimmered with golden light in the setting sun.
Captain Evans was completely speechless.
Evans looked at Shen Fei, then at his two subordinates who were barely holding on, and sighed.
He knew that today's inspection was a mistake from the very beginning. They had been used as pawns by the whistleblower.
"Okay," Evans said through gritted teeth, "I agree. We'll each keep a sample and send them for testing together. But my team must be there, watching you."
"make a deal."
Shen Fei snapped his fingers. "Kyle, arrange a helicopter. Zhang Xin, you go with them to make sure our experts can communicate with their experts."
After arranging everything, Shen Fei picked up a bottle of beer and personally handed it to Captain Evans.
"Now, may you taste my evidence, Captain?"
Half an hour later, the official inspection came to a hasty end.
The Coast Guard took their samples and also sent someone to accompany Shen Fei's helicopter to Toronto.
Captain Evans himself stayed behind.
He couldn't resist in the end and ate a piece of grilled lobster.
The lobster's sweet and fresh taste made him even more doubtful that his business trip had been a waste of time.
That evening, in the study.
Shen Fei had just hung up the phone with David Murray.
"The results are in," Shen Fei told Su Man and Kyle. "The report from the third-party organization says that our water sample is cleaner than drinking water. The Coast Guard's conclusion is the same."
"What did Captain Evans say?" Su Man asked.
"He just called to apologize," Shen Fei said, "and gave me a very interesting hint."
"He did not directly name the whistleblower, but he said that the whistleblower request was made through a special liaison office related to the national maritime security strategy."
Kyle's eyes narrowed: "Military background."
"Yes." Shen Fei nodded. "Poseidon Industries. Their reach is longer than I imagined."
Su Man frowned.
"So what do we do? Since they can use this kind of power, then sue them..."
"The lawsuit must continue," Shen Fei interrupted her. "Business matters are settled at the poker table. This is just an act for others to see."
He stood up, walked to the window, and looked at the dark sea in the distance.
"But since they've reached under the table, we have to use the following rules to chop off their claws."
He turned around and looked at Kyle.
"Prepare the marine terminator and underwater sampling equipment. Tonight, I'm going to their sewage outlet to retrieve some real evidence."
Kyle didn't say anything, just nodded, and turned to leave.
Su Man walked to Shen Fei's side and took his hand.
"It's too dangerous."
"Don't worry," Shen Fei squeezed her hand back, "In my sea, I'm in charge. Besides, I'm just going to check on my neighbors and see what kind of garbage they're throwing into our backyard."
At midnight, the moon hid behind the clouds.
A black speedboat, like a shadow, silently glided out of the bay of the Great Sage Fishing Ground.
There were only Shen Fei and Kyle on the boat.
The speedboat moved at high speed across the sea without its lights on, relying on advanced radar and night vision systems.
The sea breeze was cold and carried a faint chemical smell.
"Sir, we're almost within the radar detection range of the Prometheus platform."
Kyle lowered his voice and skillfully reduced the speedboat's speed, using the waves as cover to slowly approach the steel platform.
Shen Fei closed his eyes; his consciousness had already sunk into the deep sea.
He could see that the huge sewage pipe at the bottom of the platform was continuously discharging a black, oily liquid into the seawater.
The seawater surrounding that liquid was a dead zone.
There were no fish, no microorganisms, only polluted, lifeless silt.
"Stop here."
About a nautical mile from the platform, Shenfei ordered Kyle to stop the ship.
Kyle took a metal box out of the cabin, which opened to reveal a small remotely operated underwater vehicle with a robotic arm and a sampling syringe attached to the front.
"Let's begin," Shen Fei said.
Kyle lowered the submersible into the water, and it silently submerged into the sea. The screen quickly transmitted murky underwater images.
Guided by Shen Fei's mental strength, the submersible avoided all underwater obstacles and quietly approached the huge sewage pipe.
"Now."
Shen Fei gave a low shout.
Kyle immediately manipulated the robotic arm to forcefully insert the sampling needle into the rubber connection of the tube.
A stream of black liquid was immediately drawn into a sealed sample bottle.
"Success!" Kyle said, and immediately began to retrieve the submarine.
However, just as the submersible was about to return to the surface, Shen Fei's expression suddenly changed.
"Oh no!" He opened his eyes abruptly, grabbed Kyle, and shouted, "Run! We've been discovered!"
At the same time, a searchlight suddenly lit up in the direction of the platform, locking onto their speedboat.
Then, a piercing alarm sounded.
What made their scalps tingle even more was that a black object silently rose up from behind the speedboat.
It was a strange drone, without rotors, just hovering on the water, with a red camera on the front of the fuselage staring intently at them.
