At present, Friday's flying lesson is an important milestone - in the original book, it was in this lesson that Harry demonstrated his amazing flying talent and was recommended by Professor McGonagall to join the Quidditch team.
Thinking this, she unconsciously looked down at her legs. Even if she couldn't ride a broom, she should be able to take off smoothly if she used the Levitation Charm properly.
Just as she was pondering, the dormitory door was gently pushed open, and Harley and Hermione peeked in.
"Vera, are you feeling better?" Harley asked softly, her green eyes filled with concern.
Vera snapped out of her thoughts and nodded slightly: "Much better, you can come in now."
Harley tiptoed in, carrying a steaming cup of beverage: "This is honey milk that my house-elf specially prepared, saying it can help restore strength."
Hermione followed behind, looking at her with concern: "Harley already told me about that Malfoy..."
"Don't worry about him." Vera took the honey milk, took a sip, and let the sweet taste melt on her tongue.
At this stage, Malfoy is just a spoiled child, and even at the end of the original story, he is not a complete villain.
Just maintain basic vigilance, and there will be plenty of opportunities to teach him a lesson in the future.
Harley said defiantly, clenching her fists in anticipation, "If he dares to provoke me again, I'll make him learn his lesson!"
Vera raised an eyebrow, looked thoughtfully at Harley, who seemed to hate evil, and tentatively asked, "Harley, are you good at fighting?"
“Uh… this…” Harley instinctively withdrew her fist and smiled awkwardly. “How could I possibly fight? Vera, you’re overthinking it.”
Seeing her lack of confidence, Vera slightly raised her lips and timely changed the subject: "Then you should learn some basic spells to protect yourself."
Harry's eyes lit up, and she quickly moved closer to her: "Vera, can you teach me the Disarming Charm? The one that makes Malfoy's wand fly!"
Vera looked at her expectant eyes and nodded gently: "Okay, but I'll have time on the weekend."
Harley nodded excitedly, her green eyes sparkling with anticipation: "It's a deal!"
Hermione joined in, her brown eyes sparkling: "Can I learn too?"
“Of course,” Vera replied softly, a smile unconsciously creeping onto her lips as she watched the two girls’ excited expressions.
Chapter Twenty-Nine: Potions Class (Sixth Update)
The next two days were a bit more packed with classes.
Wednesday night is astronomy class, and the students need to stay up all night to observe the stars. Vera, Harry, and Hermione are on the highest tower of the castle, recording the planetary trajectories through a telescope.
Perhaps influenced by that night, Harley became particularly fascinated by the stars and kept pestering Vera to tell her stories about various constellations.
“Look, that’s Sirius, in the constellation Canis Major, one of the brightest stars in the night sky,” Vera explained softly, pointing to the shining star. “In Muggle astronomy, it’s about 8.6 light-years away from Earth.”
Harley tilted her head back, her green eyes reflecting the starlight: "It's so beautiful... Vera, do you think there are wizards on the stars?"
Vera chuckled softly, "As far as I know, no wizard has ever been that far. However, in the past, ancient wizards believed that the movement of stars would affect the fluctuations of magical energy."
As she spoke, Hermione finished her observation record and closed her notebook solemnly: "Astronomy class is much more interesting than I imagined, even though it means staying up all night."
“Yeah,” Harley yawned, “I’m just a little sleepy…”
Vera looked at Harley, who was struggling to keep her eyes open, and gently patted her shoulder: "Hang in there a little longer, it'll be over soon."
After astronomy class, the three girls dragged their tired bodies back to the Gryffindor Tower and fell asleep almost as soon as their heads hit the pillow.
Friday finally arrived, and early in the morning, Harley received a letter from Hagrid in the Great Hall, inviting her to have tea at Hagrid's Cottage over the weekend.
“You can go,” Vera said slowly, taking a sip of honey water. “That place is too far, and my wheelchair isn’t suitable for going there.”
Vera gently put down her cup, noticing the obvious disappointment on Harley's face, and added, "Besides, I still have some class notes to organize."
“I can go with Harley,” Hermione said immediately, swallowing her toast.
Harley's green eyes lit up again: "Alright! Vera, I'll bring you back some Hagrid's treats!"
Vera recalled the rock crust bread in the original story, so hard it could be used as a weapon, and her lips twitched slightly: "...Thank you, but no need."
After breakfast, they went to the Potions classroom.
Potions class was held in an underground classroom, which was much colder and more gloomy than the main castle building above. Glass jars lined the walls, and the animal specimens inside were even more chilling.
Professor Snape strode into the classroom, his black robe billowing behind him like bat wings.
"You've come here to learn the precise science and rigorous process of potion-making," he said coldly. "Because there are no fools waving wands here, many of you won't believe this is magic."
I don't expect you to truly appreciate the beauty of that slow-simmering pot, its white smoke rising and its fragrant aroma wafting out. You won't truly understand the wondrous magic of the fluid that flows into people's veins, captivating their hearts and minds, and making them lose their senses...
I can teach you how to increase your reputation, cultivate glory, and even prevent death—but there's one condition: you must not be the kind of fools I often encounter.
After he finished his brief opening remarks, the whole class fell silent.
Snape stood at the front of the class, his cold gaze sweeping over the entire class before finally settling on Harry, who was still frantically taking notes.
“Ah, yes,” he said softly, “Harley Potter. She’s our newest—a very famous person.”
Harley looked up, her green eyes blinking in confusion.
Snape's lips twisted into an almost smiling expression: "Miss Potter, what do you get if you add narcissus root powder to wormwood infusion?"
His question had barely left her lips when Hermione raised her arm high, almost lifting herself from her seat.
Harry paused, her green eyes widening slightly. Remembering the potion knowledge Vera had mentioned on the first night of school, she glanced at the composed Vera and answered uncertainly:
"You will receive a powerful sleeping pill, which is also known as the Water of Life and Death."
Snape was visibly taken aback, staring into her eyes with a slight frown: "...So, if I asked you to find me a piece of bezoar, where would you go to look for it?"
“In the cow’s stomach,” Harley’s eyes lit up as she realized she was right and her confidence soared. “Bezoar is an effective antidote.”
Snape's brow furrowed further, and his voice deepened: "What's the difference between Aconitum carmichaelii and Aconitum davidii?"
Harley almost burst out laughing—this was exactly what Vera had mentioned that night!
“There is no difference; they are the same plant, also known as aconite.” She looked confidently at Snape, her emerald green eyes, inherited from her mother, gleaming in the dimly lit underground classroom.
Snape's expression froze; he stared intently into Harley's eyes, his lips trembling slightly.
The classroom was deathly silent; everyone held their breath.
After staring at Harley with a complicated expression for a long time, Snape slowly straightened up and said coldly, "Sit down, Potter—why don't you write all this down?"
Suddenly, a rustling sound of quill pen and parchment being fumbled could be heard.
Amidst the noise, Snape's voice, deeper than usual, rang out: "Looks like you did... do some preparation. Gryffindor, one point."
Hermione looked at Harley in disbelief, who was secretly winking at Vera.
Vera calmly returned their faint smiles.
Snape turned and walked to the podium, his black robes billowing. "Now, turn to page three in your textbooks. Today we're going to brew medicine for scabies..."
After briefly explaining the process, Snape divided them into pairs, while he himself, dragging his long black cloak, walked around the classroom watching them dry nettles and crush snake fangs.
Almost all the students had been criticized, and he would occasionally stop in front of Harley's cauldron to point out her operational problems, but surprisingly he did not deduct points or scold Harley like the others.
This left Hermes, who was mercilessly mocked for only being a few seconds late in adding the ingredients, feeling extremely confused and aggrieved.
Fortunately, Vera was there to comfort her, which allowed her to patiently continue.
“Miss Potter, your fangs aren’t sharp enough,” Snape said coldly, but his tone was noticeably gentler than when he spoke to other students. “Continue.”
Harley bit her lip, blinked hard, took a deep breath, and said, "Yes, Professor."
Vera quietly observed all of this from the side, a slight smile playing on her lips.
With green eyes just like Lily's, plus the potion-making talent inherited from Lily, he's practically a Snape-proof weapon.
She definitely likes this kind of storyline.
Chapter Thirty: Flight Lessons (Seventh Update)
Just as Snape finished correcting Harley's actions and turned to continue his inspection, a plume of acidic green smoke suddenly billowed from the underground classroom, accompanied by a loud hissing sound.
Vera was sitting right in front of them. When she heard the voice, she immediately sensed something was wrong and turned around in her wheelchair: "Freeze it immediately!"
As the spell was cast, the wand in his hand emitted a burst of cold air, precisely freezing Ron's cauldron and preventing the potion from splashing and injuring anyone.
"Fool!" Snape whirled around, strode over to Ron's cauldron, his gaze fixed on the frozen failure, then on Neville, who was pale with fright. "I suppose you put the porcupine quills in before taking the cauldron off the fire, didn't you?"
As he spoke, he waved his wand to clear away the residue, his face turning terrifyingly grim.
“Gryffindor loses five points for Longbottom’s stupidity,” Snape announced coldly. “Miss Black’s quick thinking adds… one point to Gryffindor.”
In the end, they still only lost three points...
Vera sighed inwardly as she watched Snape's retreating figure and cursed him as a stingy man.
Neville's face, which had been pale just moments before, was now flushed red, and he even started shedding small pearls.
Harley couldn't stand it and quietly handed him a tissue, only to be caught and scolded by Snape.
Fortunately, no points were deducted.
Vera secretly breathed a sigh of relief; she had been so engrossed in watching the show that she had almost forgotten about Neville.
Fortunately… She stared at the cauldron in front of her. Although the potion was still incomplete, she could clearly see the magical flow of the potion's components through her magic circuits—the subtle color changes and energy conversions were all clearly visible to her.
"Simmer for another three minutes, then stir clockwise two and a half times..." she murmured to herself, precisely controlling the heat and stirring rhythm.
Hermione looked at her in surprise: "Vera, you're even good at potions?"
Vera gently shook her head: "It's just following the steps."
Indeed, after trying it once, she roughly understood that the magic circuits only gave her the ability to add potion ingredients at the right time and how to choose the right materials to remedy mistakes.
However, she had to complete the preparation of materials for brewing the potion on her own.
In the original story, when Harry was in sixth grade, after obtaining the Half-Blood Prince's Potions Book, he quickly acquired enough materials using some of the modified material processing methods described in it.
At least in this respect, she is still lacking.
More importantly... after Vera finished stirring, while waiting for the potion to brew, she looked down at her hands.
Although the nerves in her hands were not affected by the car accident, the human body is often interconnected, and she could clearly feel that her hands were not as stable when handling potion ingredients.
This is a disadvantage in handling potion ingredients, and even in future battles.
Vera gently put down the stirring stick, unconsciously clenching her fingertips.
"Vera?" Hermione's voice brought her back to reality. "Your potion seems to be almost ready."
She snapped out of her daze and looked at her crucible, where the liquid had turned a perfect blue—the standard state for a complete scabies medicine.
"Thank you for reminding me," she said softly, tapping the edge of the cauldron with her wand, and the flames immediately went out.
Snape appeared silently behind her, his black robes almost brushing against her wheelchair.
He looked down at the liquid in the crucible, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes.
However, he didn't say much, but just looked thoughtfully at Vera's slightly trembling hands.
Just before the end of get out of class, Snape asked each of them to fill a bottle with a potion and hand it in.
Vera and Hermione's potions, needless to say, were near perfect, displaying a textbook-perfect blue hue.
Harley's potion was a slightly darker color, but Snape just frowned and didn't say anything.
"Submit a paper on the formulation of scabies solution by the end of the weekend, no less than nine inches long," Snape announced as the bell rang. "get out of class dismissed."
The students, feeling as if they had been granted a pardon, quickly packed their belongings and left the cold, dark underground classroom.
Harley and Hermione pushed Vera's wheelchair, and the three of them walked out of the classroom together, basking in the warm sunlight.
"Phew—finally out!" Harley took a deep breath. "Professor Snape is terrifying. I always felt like he was going to deduct points at any moment."
Hermione, holding her textbook, said thoughtfully, "But he seems to pay... a lot of attention to you? I mean, aside from criticizing you."
Harley blinked, puzzled. "Really? I think he's just as strict with everyone, but... what he teaches is quite effective."
“Perhaps it’s just because you answered his question correctly.” Vera gently pushed the wheelchair, a slight smile playing on her lips.
The thought of what Snape would think when he saw Harry's eyes made her lose control of her expression.
Seeing that Harley and Hermione were looking at her, Vera quickly suppressed her smile and calmly changed the subject: "Are you ready for your flight lesson this afternoon?"
Hermione's attention was immediately diverted, and she nervously twisted her fingers: "I read Quidditch books several times last night, but for practical classes like this, the most important thing is still hands-on practice..."
Harry's eyes lit up at first, and she was about to speak when she hesitated, glancing at Vera beside her. She cautiously asked, "Then... Vera, will you be attending class with us? Or..."
Vera gently shook her head: "I will go."
“But yours—” Hermione was about to say something when she saw Harley turn her head and shake her head slightly at her.
Then, Harley turned to Vera and smiled, "Okay, let's go to class together!"
