When Hermione returned with the notebook, this was what she saw—
Vera and Halle sat in front of the fireplace, the firelight casting a warm golden glow on their long, silver-grey hair and slightly disheveled black hair.
Hermione stared at them, a slight smile playing on her lips. She tiptoed over, sat down between them, and placed her notebook on the table.
The three girls sat around the fireplace and began to do their homework.
Vera wrote quickly, and Hermione wrote fluently without any pressure.
Harley, biting the end of her quill, stared at the parchment she had only written three lines of: "I have absolutely no idea what to write... Why are there so many categories of herbs?"
That's a good question.
Vera sighed softly, pushed her wheelchair closer to her, looked at the bunch of words she had deliberately written in large letters, and asked, "What are the characteristics of white safflower?"
Harley blinked: "Uh... can it heal wounds?"
“Yes,” Vera nodded, and continued to guide the conversation, “What about its growing environment?”
"Um... a damp, dark place?" Harley answered uncertainly.
Hermione interjected, "The Thousand Wonders of Herbs and Mushrooms clearly states that Dictamnus dasycarpus prefers a warm and humid environment, as well as sunlight, and the soil should be kept moist but not waterlogged."
Vera gave Hermione an approving look and continued to Harry, "See, you already know a lot. Write all of this down, and add your own observations—for example, why are the edges of the white sage leaves serrated when we saw them today?"
Harley suddenly realized: "Because it needs to prevent moisture from evaporating!"
“That’s it.” Vera gently patted the back of her hand. “Now, try to put these into complete sentences and expand on them a little.”
With the help of Vera and Hermione, Harry finally managed to finish her homework, albeit with some difficulty.
As night deepened and the last period was drawn, Harley's face beamed with obvious satisfaction: "I actually filled an entire page of parchment!"
Hermione picked up their papers and examined them carefully: "Vera's part is perfect, and mine is alright...Harley, this sentence of yours doesn't quite flow..."
Exhausted and completely dazed, Harley immediately rushed over and covered her mouth: "Please stop talking, my brain is a complete mess!"
Vera watched the two playfully bickering and couldn't help but smile, saying, "It's time to rest; we have class tomorrow."
When I got back to the dorm, Knox was already asleep on the cat tree.
The three girls quietly washed and changed, afraid of waking it.
Once she was sitting on the bed, while Harley and Hermione were still playfully washing up, Vera picked up today's potion and drank it all in one gulp.
The bitter medicine slid down her throat, and Vera endured the discomfort as she felt the effects spreading through her body.
"Vera?" Harley's voice came from the bathroom doorway. "Are you alright?"
She quickly put down the empty bottle and casually hid it under the covers, saying, "It's nothing."
Harley tilted her head, her wet black hair plastered to her cheeks, her green eyes filled with worry: "But you look so pale..."
"I'm just a little tired," Vera replied casually. "You should all get some rest too."
Harley wanted to say something more, but Vera had already crawled into bed, leaving only a "Goodnight."
Chapter Twenty-Seven: The Experience Monsters Have Respawned (Four Chapters)
The next morning was Charms class, and thanks to their exploration of the castle the day before, they found the Charms classroom without any problems.
The professor who taught Charms was Flitwick, a short wizard who could barely reach the podium by standing on a stack of books.
As far as Vera knew, Professor Flitwick had some fairy blood, which was why he was short.
But because of this, he also possesses extremely strong magical talent and was once a wizard duel champion.
Among the professors at Hogwarts, excluding Dumbledore, his abilities are among the top three.
“One of the fundamental skills of a wizard is levitation, which is the levitation charm we will learn today,” Professor Flitwick said, standing on his book and demonstrating the wand-waving motion. “Remember the wrist movement we just practiced, a flick followed by another flick—Yugadim Leviosa!”
The moment the incantation was uttered, magical threads poured out from the wand, wrapping around the feather before them as if they were alive, gently lifting it up.
"Now, everyone, please give it a try!" Professor Flitwick announced loudly.
The classroom was immediately filled with chanting and the sound of waving sticks.
Vera picked up her wand, recalling Professor Flitwick's magical flow, and tried to guide her own magic to mimic that flow. With a gentle flick of her wrist—
"Yugadimurleviosa!"
Her feathers immediately floated up lightly, twirling gracefully in mid-air.
"Fantastic! Miss Black!" Professor Flitwick clapped excitedly. "Five points added to Gryffindor!"
Harley and Hermione looked at Vera's feathers with envy and practiced even harder.
Soon, Hermione's feathers reacted, swaying and floating to Vera's head, the tips of the feathers brushing against Vera's face one by one.
"Excellent, Miss Granger has succeeded too!" Flitwick praised without reservation. "Two more points for Gryffindor!"
Vera was amused by the sudden "attack" and simply waved her wand lightly, making her feathers and Hermione's feathers chase each other in the air.
Harley watched them play, biting her lip with a hint of disappointment, and waved her wand even more energetically, chanting, "Yugadim Leviosa! Yugadim Leviosa!"
But her feathers only trembled slightly before falling back onto the table.
“Don’t worry,” Vera said softly, “Besides what the professor just said, you can try…imagine a feather as light as a feather, and your magic is the wind that lifts it up.”
She took Harley's wrist and guided her to make the correct swing motion: "One flick, then another flick."
With a slight flick of Vera's wrist, Harley's wand traced a graceful arc: "Yugardim Leviosa!"
This time, her feathers fluttered and floated up, hovering in the air, though only a few inches above the table.
"I did it!" Harley jumped up excitedly, almost bumping into the table.
Professor Flitwick immediately noticed the commotion and rushed over, saying, "Be careful, Miss Potter! But you did a good job. You do need a little imagination when casting spells."
Harley smiled sheepishly, but her green eyes still sparkled with excitement.
Vera watched her excited expression, and the corners of her mouth unconsciously turned up.
Whether it's Harry in the original books or Harley in front of us, they actually have quite good magical talent, otherwise they wouldn't have been able to master one of the most profound white magic spells, the Patronus Charm.
It's just that sometimes we lack the right guidance.
Just then, Ron's feathers suddenly popped open with a "bang," covering his face with downy fur.
“Ahem… Make sure you pronounce it correctly, it’s Levi[O]sa, not Levi[O]sa.” Professor Flitwick waved his wand to brush the fur off Ron. “Wave gently, not like you’re swinging a windmill.”
A burst of good-natured laughter rang out in the classroom, and Ron blushed bright red, so he could only pick up another feather and continue.
When the bell rang, most students made their feathers tremble at least a few times, but Neville and Seamo's feathers didn't budge at all—Seamo even accidentally burned his feathers, and the classroom was filled with a burnt smell.
“In the next lesson we will continue practicing the Levitation Charm and learn some practical application techniques,” Professor Flitwick announced.
In the afternoon, it was time for the Defense Against the Dark Arts class that the students were all looking forward to, but it turned into a disaster.
Professor Quirrell's halting lectures were incredibly soporific, and the classroom reeked of garlic, making it almost unbearable.
When the bell rang, everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
“This is even more boring than the history of magic,” Harley complained under her breath, “and the garlic smell on him is driving me crazy.”
On this matter, Hermione, unusually, wrinkled her nose to show her agreement.
Vera looked thoughtfully in the direction Quirrell had left, her magical circuits allowing her to clearly sense the evil aura hidden beneath the headscarf.
A fragment of Voldemort's soul had taken root in Quirrell's head, emanating an unsettling aura of dark magic.
As long as Harley takes classes here, Voldemort, who resides in the back of Quirrell's head, can spy on her at any time.
"Let's hurry back to the lounge," Vera suggested softly as soon as get out of class ended.
Harley nodded, quickly putting the matter out of her mind and turning to discuss the upcoming lessons.
Just as they were crossing the courtyard, Malfoy and his two henchmen blocked their way.
“Look who this is,” Malfoy drawled, his gray eyes gleaming with malice, “the wheelchair-bound lady from Gryffindor and her entourage.”
Harley immediately stepped in front of Vera, her green eyes blazing with anger: "Malfoy, you'd better keep your mouth shut!"
Crabbe and Gore stood in front of them, laughing rudely, like two small mountains blocking their way.
Vera gently pressed Harley's wrist, signaling her to calm down, then looked calmly at Malfoy: "Cousin Draco, it seems you haven't learned your lesson from last time."
Malfoy's face instantly turned ugly: "Don't call me that! You're a Gryffindor now!"
Vera narrowed her eyes slightly, and her wheelchair glided forward silently. "I am also very sorry, but blood ties will not change because of the academy, just as your stupidity will not disappear because of the differences between academies."
Crabbe and Gore looked at each other, clearly not keeping up with the pace of the conversation.
Malfoy's face flushed crimson, his hand already reaching for his wand hidden in his robes: "How dare you—"
Before he could even draw his wand, Vera had already pulled out her own, the tip pointing directly at his face: "Disarmament!"
Chapter Twenty-Eight: The Thrill of Battle (Fifth Update)
"Except your weapons!"
A dazzling red light flashed, and Malfoy's wand flew out of his hand, soaring high into the air before landing in Vera's hand.
At the same time, a string of words quickly condensed on Vera's retina:
[Complete the first battle to unlock Battle Resonance Value]
[Defeat opponent, Resonance Value +5]
[Current Battle Resonance Value: 5. During this battle, casting speed is increased by 5%, magic power by 5%, and all basic attributes by 5%. Continuing to defeat enemies will grant new bonuses. This value will be reset to zero after the battle ends.]
Vera raised an eyebrow in surprise. She had never fought anyone before... She never expected that the magic circuits had such a hidden mechanism.
Malfoy stood frozen in place, staring incredulously at his empty hands, then at the wand in Vera's hand, his face turning from red to white: "You... how dare you!"
“This is just a small warning.” Vera snapped out of her reverie and calmly toyed with Malfoy’s wand. “If you cause trouble again, I won’t hesitate to embarrass you in front of the whole school.”
Crabbe and Goyle finally realized what was happening and clumsily drew their wands, only to be quickly blocked by Harley.
"Want to fight?" Harley's expression turned grim, her wand pointing directly at Crabbe. "Want to give it a try?"
Although Hermione was nervous and somewhat at a loss, with Harley's support, she followed suit and raised her wand, standing in front of Vera. "Yes! We're not afraid of you!"
Malfoy's face turned pale and then red, but he finally gritted his teeth and said, "Let's go!"
Vera casually tossed his wand over: "Take your things."
Watching the three of them leave in a disheveled state, Hermione finally relaxed, pressing her hand to her pounding heart: "My God, Vera, when did you learn this?"
“I saw it in a book,” Vera replied casually, turning her wheelchair to continue forward. “Let’s go, stop looking at them.”
Harley quickly caught up with Vera, her green eyes sparkling with admiration: "That was so cool! His wand flew into your hand in an instant! What was that spell? Can you teach me?"
“Disarming Charm, a very useful defensive spell,” Vera explained softly. “But I’m a little tired now, can I go back to the rest room?”
Harley then realized what was happening, nodded repeatedly, and pushed Vera's wheelchair toward the lounge.
Along the way, Harley would occasionally excitedly mimic the spell she had just performed, her eyes filled with longing.
Hermione was relatively calmer, but not by much... at least Vera had seen her secretly write down the Disarming Charm in her notebook.
Back in the common room, Vera went back to her bedroom alone, saying she needed to rest. Harley and Hermione noticed she wasn't feeling well and didn't follow her in to disturb her.
After closing the dormitory door, Vera immediately summoned her magic circuits, preparing to carefully study the function of the newly unlocked [Combat Resonance Value].
[Battle Resonance Value: Accumulate resonance value through actual combat to increase combat bonuses.]
[In battle, winning grants 5 Resonance Points, while losing grants 1 Resonance Point. Every 10 Resonance Points accumulated triggers a battle enhancement effect.]
[After the battle, 20% of the resonance value will be converted into maximum mana, and magic circuit experience will be increased.]
Vera stared at the words appearing on her retina, thoughtfully stroking her wand.
This newly unlocked mechanism is more valuable than she expected—it not only enhances combat abilities but also accelerates the growth of her magic circuits.
The 5 resonance points from defeating Malfoy had raised her magic power cap from 90 to 91. Although the increase was small, she understood the principle that little things add up.
"Besides regular practice, I need to find more opportunities for real combat in the future..." Vera murmured to herself, a slight smile playing on her lips.
However, she immediately frowned – given her current status, frequent conflicts with others would likely attract unnecessary attention.
Knox leaped gracefully down from the cat tree, his amber eyes fixed on his owner, his tail tip swaying gently.
"You also think we should be more careful, right?" Vivi reached out and stroked the black cat's smooth fur. "Don't worry, I won't cause trouble."
But if someone comes to your door...
Vera gently stroked the cat's soft fur, pondering the upcoming plot.
