However, all their various measures were in vain, and the curse landed squarely on Kane's outstretched hand.
The only thing that happened was that the health bar was slightly reduced; otherwise, nothing else happened.
“You’re done, so it’s my turn.” Kane raised an eyebrow and his hand clenched slightly. In an instant, the shadow covering Pol Anreira’s face suddenly tightened, as if solidifying and squeezing Pol Anreira’s face into an absurd shape.
The shock this scene gave the young wizards was unlike any prank magic that anyone who knew a spell could pull off. Some of the more learned young wizards instantly found a precise adjective to describe this bizarre magic and scene in their minds.
Black magic!
The few junior wizards who realized it was black magic quietly shielded the majority of wizards who couldn't figure it out in front of them.
Although they had never heard of this kind of dark magic that manipulates shadows, they didn't even need a wand to knead Boranrera's face into a dough ball and forcefully lift it up, making her purplish-red face look exactly like she was hanging herself.
This level of black magic is so dangerous that even if the Aurors were to immediately arrest Kane and imprison him in Azkaban without trial, it wouldn't be considered unjust!
After all, among so many people present, only a few knew about and had witnessed Kane's methods. Harry, Ron, and Malfoy, who had also been a victim, had seen them, but most of the others were seeing such methods for the first time.
Neville and Hermione, who had just tried to shield Kane from the curse for his loyalty, also rushed to stand in front of Kane, trying to stop him, seeing that Booleanella was almost dead.
"Kane, thank you for saving me, but that guy looks like he's about to die, let go! You don't want to go to Azkaban, do you?" Hermione anxiously grabbed Kane's hand and shook it repeatedly.
Neville was doing the same thing; he kept grabbing Paulanera's legs, trying to pull him down, but it seemed to be counterproductive.
Kane, the instigator of this second farce, certainly knew what he was doing.
It was just two little wizards fighting. I'm not some kind of devil. The blackish-purple face of that Pol Anreira wasn't actually due to lack of oxygen. It was just that the shadow was attached to his face, causing his body to subconsciously draw magic and blood to his face in an attempt to fight it off.
At most, it just looks scary, but it's not really dangerous. Of course, it will definitely make you feel uncomfortable.
However, what the others didn't know was that, seeing Paul Anreira already rolling his eyes, most people no longer looked at Kane with admiration and respect, but with fear and keeping their distance.
Even Harry and Ron slowly walked up and patted Kane on the shoulder: "If you keep this up, that kid over there is really going to die. Stop it, Kane, the professor is right outside."
No sooner had Ron finished speaking than the hall doors suddenly burst open, and Professor McGonagall's shrill voice rang out: "What are you doing!"
Chapter Twenty-Two: Beware of Your Shadow
Kane turned around and saw that it really was Professor McGonagall. He quickly stopped, while Paul Anreira, who had fallen to the ground, did not show any signs of oxygen deprivation. He just kept clutching his head and groaning in pain.
“Mr. Kaneheath, I need you to explain to me what happened here!” Professor McGonagall looked at Kane sternly.
Kane glanced at Paul Anreira: "Perhaps... Professor McGonagall, you could ask the second instigator of this incident, Mr. Paul Anreira. He certainly knows the ins and outs better than I do."
Professor McGonagall strode over to Paul Anreira, first examining his physical condition and finding nothing seriously wrong, only a hint of dark magic...
Well, having learned about Kane from Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall naturally wouldn't dwell on such matters. She simply used a healing spell to return the excess blood above Paul Anreira's neck to his entire body.
“Now,” Professor McGonagall said slowly, “I’m standing between you and Kanehis. You can tell me what happened, but I won’t just ask you. So I need you to answer truthfully. Even if Mr. Kanehis attacked you, that’s not a reason for you to put all the blame on him.”
Kane raised an eyebrow. Although Professor McGonagall had said that he wouldn't listen to just one person, he still felt it was necessary to get Mr. Paul Anreira to tell the truth in one go, just to save himself some trouble.
Thinking of this, a thought struck him. The shadow cast by Professor McGonagall, which blocked the light from the distant lamplight, seemed to come alive, tearing itself apart and forming several English words.
"Watch out... Shadow, tell... the truth!"
Upon witnessing this scene, Paul instinctively felt that the shadow beneath his feet was like an abstract animal trap, capable of snapping off any part of him at any moment, should the hunter named Kanehis be so willing.
Ultimately, wanting to survive, Paul Anreira decided to tell the truth.
Professor McGonagall listened as the story unfolded, from Lucky the Toad jumping onto her head to Hermione standing up for Neville and calling her a Mudblood...
Originally, his pre-school self-study level was quite good. Not to mention Neville, a good-for-nothing, and Hermione, a little wizard with obviously insufficient experience, even if you put two random wizards on the field, he might not necessarily lose.
Then Kane suddenly jumped out, and after he had only said a few trash words, he was grabbed by Kane's shadow and began to caress him.
Professor McGonagall's face grew darker as she listened to Paul Anreira's explanation. She then looked at the others, mainly Kane, and asked, "Is that so?"
"He's fairly honest," Kane said, raising an eyebrow.
"Mr. Anreira, because you insulted your classmate, five points will be deducted from your college's score after the sorting ceremony. Miss Granger, you bravely helped Mr. Longbottom, so five points will be added to your college's score after the sorting ceremony."
“Mr. Longbottom, keep a close eye on your frog, and lastly Mr. Heath.”
Professor McGonagall looked at Kane and sighed helplessly: "I admire your stance of protecting your classmate, but your methods were too cruel. Please apologize to Mr. Anreira."
Kane shrugged. "No problem."
After he finished speaking, he looked at Mr. Paulanerella, who was standing not far from him, and slowly bent down, but his head was still not lowered at all.
“Mr. Paulanerella, I apologize for my impulsiveness just now.”
As Kane's calm words fell into the foyer, Paul Anreira across from him plopped down on the floor. He could no longer feel his legs, but thankfully he could still feel his throat and mouth.
“I accept! I accept your apology, and at the same time I am very sorry, I, I shouldn’t have spoken so rudely, Mr. Kanehis, please also accept my... my apology…” Paul Anreira said in a panic.
“Hmm... I accept your apology.” Kane slowly straightened up and looked down at Paul Anreira, who was sitting on the ground.
Anyone who had just arrived here would not believe that the scene was Kane apologizing to Paul; on the contrary, it looked more like Paul begging Kane for forgiveness.
"Can...can I stand up?" Paulanerella asked, trembling.
“You were scared so much you couldn’t stand up, it wasn’t my doing.” Kane said, then stopped looking at Paul Anreira and walked into the crowd, finding Harry and Ron.
“Kane, you’re this.” Ron held out a fist to Kane, then popped a thumb out from it.
"Keep it down, keep it down." Kane said, noticing that Professor McGonagall was leading the crowd out of the foyer, and the young wizards finally stood in the center of the Great Hall.
Professor McGonagall walked to a small stool in front of her, on which sat a dirty linen hat. Kane recognized the hat; it had always been on top of the cabinet in Dumbledore's office.
"No way?" Kane murmured silently. "Could it be that it's not some magical experiment in the hallway, but rather something involving a hat?" Kane looked at Maxwell, who was standing in front of him examining the hat.
He'd just spent half the day standing out in the foyer because of a few words from that man in the distance...
Suddenly, the hat spoke up.
After a series of hoarse, unpleasant songs, Kane was certain it was all thanks to that hat.
Professor McGonagall slowly pulled out a piece of parchment: "The Sorting Ceremony shall now begin."
She looked up from the parchment and at the pile of young wizards, announcing loudly, "Hannah Abbott!"
As a little wizard with two braids walked up and put on the hat, the moment came the moment.
Hufflepuff!
The entire auditorium erupted in applause, and Kane joined in, but while clapping, he didn't forget to look at Maxwell beside him: "That's a great idea of yours."
Maxwell crossed his arms: "You're pretty smart. You didn't tell your two friends what we thought was the Sorting Ceremony, or you would have been really embarrassed."
“Even so, I should be the one proud, not you,” Kane said speechlessly.
"uh-huh."
"What are you humming about? Is the Eternal Realm so free?" Kane said helplessly.
"As you wish."
With a loud bang that only Kane could hear, Maxwell vanished.
After getting rid of Maxwell, Kane was finally able to continue watching the Sorting Ceremony in peace, while two furtive figures slowly approached from behind.
As a hand gently patted Kane's shoulder, he instinctively turned around and saw a lazy, casual, and ugly toad.
Kane's voice trembled unusually as he uttered a curse: "Holy shit!"
Chapter Twenty-Three: Idiot, Crybaby, Residue, Twisted
Neville looked at Kane with some confusion, not understanding why he was reacting so strongly. Hermione, however, suddenly realized what was happening and covered her face in annoyance.
"Why didn't I think of this sooner!" Hermione muttered through gritted teeth.
Kane looked at the toad in Neville's hand with disgust, but at least the toad was polite enough not to suddenly stick its tongue out and stick it on him.
"We came here to thank you. We would have been in big trouble without you." Hermione suddenly bowed to Kane like a spring, then abruptly stood up straight.
Neville was the same, but he was more honest: "I can give you anything I have if you need it. Maybe you'd like some of Ralph's slime?"
Okay, actually, it doesn't have to be that realistic.
However, Neville really did remind him, after all, frogs are...
"Would you mind if I touched him?" Kane asked.
“Of course not,” Neville quickly replied.
"Thank you." Kane didn't use his hands, but instead let the shadow slowly climb onto the frog's body and merge into it.
Neville stared at Kane in shock at the horrific scene.
Dude, I just wanted you to touch this cute little guy, but it feels like you want to kill my Laifu.
Just as Neville stood there stunned, the frog corrupted by the shadows turned into a disgusting green, with some red pustules inside its belly, and its eyes suddenly glowed. It squatted in Neville's hand, slowly turned around, and then suddenly stuck out its tongue.
"what!"
"Wow!"
The first sound was from Neville; the frog's tongue strike, while not extremely painful, was certainly terrifying. The second sound was from Kane, because he saw the frog's tongue hit Neville, causing Neville to lose his gear.
“That’s it, but that’s enough.” Kane was momentarily excited, then quickly pulled the shadow away from Raffle.
Lai Fu returned to normal, but Neville seemed very abnormal: "I...did I do something wrong? I apologize!"
Hermione asked in surprise, "What happened to Lai Fu just now? Did Kane do that?"
"It's just a... guess. Anyway, thank you, Neville. Your blessing has cleared up my doubts." As soon as Kane finished speaking, Professor McGonagall called out his name from the stage.
"We're in my sorting house now. Anyway, don't be afraid of Neville. Your Raleigh is perfectly fine. Also, pick up what you dropped." Before leaving, Kane pointed to a brooch at Neville's feet that had been licked off by a frog.
“Gryffindor buddies.”
Harry and Ron both patted Kane on the shoulder, and Kane naturally remained noncommittal. His main concern was being in the same house as his friends, and he wasn't concerned about whether the cultural differences between houses would affect his academic path.
Absolutely not. If someone else is a vehicle that needs to choose the right road, then he is a road roller!
Kane quickly sat down on the stool, and the moment the Sorting Hat was placed on his head, he exclaimed in surprise: "Hmm, a kind little wizard, not very ambitious, and his grasp of knowledge... is just so-so. Would you like to go to Hufflepuff?"
"Not really, I want to be with my friends. I'd rather be sorted into Gryffindor," Kane thought to himself.
"Gryffindor, a little wizard who's afraid of frogs and the dark... Well, while you're afraid of frogs and the dark, you're not afraid of beating the sole heir of a pure-blood family half to death, so..."
"Gryffindor!"
As the Sorting Hat announced its final answer, Kane was relieved, as were Harry and Ron. Dumbledore smiled and raised his glass in greeting, and even Snape was glad that the boy hadn't been sorted into Slytherin.
