Mercer closed the screen window, returned to the sofa, and poured a cup of cold tea for Ya Dabao.

"Have some tea first." Mercer said, watching Ya Dabao drink his tea. "I know, Makino went to hang up the laundry."

"Where...where?" a hoarse voice came from behind. Ya Dabao asked curiously, "Is it that stupid...family?"

Mercer nodded, reached out and stroked a single downy feather sticking up on Crow Da Bao's head, then used his fingers to smooth out its feathers.

Ya Dabao comfortably closed his eyes, letting out a low, hoarse "waa waa" sound.

A moment later, Makino returned and saw the interaction between the person and the crow as soon as she entered the door. Makino's expression had returned to normal by then.

He sat down next to Mercer on the sofa.

Looking at Moses, Makino suddenly said:

"Little Messer, why don't you sleep here at my house tonight? Your clothes won't dry tonight, and you don't want to walk down the street in my pajamas, do you?"

Mercer glanced at her and suddenly chuckled, "It's alright, Crow Da Bao can just go back and get me some clothes later, it's very capable."

Makino was taken aback, then looked at Ya Dabao, who was looking at her with disdain in his eyes, and couldn't help but twitch her lips, "Stinky bird."

Ya Dabao fell silent, his disdain in his bird eyes growing even stronger.

Foolish mother monkey.

Does that mean crows don't exist? If crows can lift iron nets, how could they not lift two pieces of clothing?

Makino didn't want to pay attention to it, lest she get angry again, so she looked at Moses and said:

"Sleeping on a boat is nowhere as comfortable as sleeping in a proper house. You probably don't want to be rocking around all night, right?"

That really hit the nail on the head for Mercer. Indeed, sleeping on the shore is more comfortable than sleeping on the boat. Or, why don't we go to Mount Colbo to find Ace?

After thinking about it, Mercer didn't really want to stay at the bandits' den; there were too many people, and he wouldn't be able to sleep soundly.

Makino glanced at Mercer, who also noticed his hesitation. Just as she was about to speak, Mercer asked:

"Are there any hotels in the windmill village? I'll stay there."

Makino was stunned, then said with a dark face, "No."

"What? My place doesn't meet your standards? You'd rather go to a hotel than sleep here?"

"No, it's just that this is bothering you a bit too much."

"You stinky Messer, I treat you like a little brother. If I really thought you would bother me, why would I let you come to my house or sleep here? You heartless brat."

Makino puffed out her cheeks indignantly.

Mercer looked at Makino with some surprise, not expecting her to think that way.

"As expected, you had ulterior motives."

Makino was stunned by Mercer's words, somewhat bewildered, not understanding what Mercer meant. But then she heard Mercer say:

"You haven't given up yet. You still want me to be your younger brother. Didn't I tell you? I will never be your younger brother. It's not in line with my personality. You should give up on that idea as soon as possible."

Makino was taken aback, then found herself both amused and exasperated. The next second, she turned around and pinched Mercer's face.

At the same time, a sharp glint flashed in the eyes of the crow-like bird, and its sharp beak swooped straight down.

Noticing Ya Da Bao's movement, a flash of crimson light appeared deep in his eyes. Mercer's right index finger precisely positioned itself at the base of Ya Da Bao's sharp beak, lifting it up. Ya Da Bao tilted his head, asking in confusion:

"Mei, what are you doing, stopping the crows?"

At that moment, Makino pinched Mercer's right cheek with her right fingers and also heard what Ya Da Bao said.

His face froze as he stared at the raised beak, and he stammered, "Is it going to pounce on me?"

“I stopped it. Don’t worry, Ya Da Bao doesn’t have any bad intentions,” Mercer explained. “At most you only got a minor scratch. It knows its limits.”

"Oh!" Makino looked at the cheek of Messer that she had pinched and couldn't help but feel embarrassed. She quickly let go and rubbed it with her palm, and apologized, "Sorry, sorry, I just couldn't resist."

A glint flashed in Ya Dabao's eyes, and he called out in a hoarse voice, "Ya, I'm sorry, my mouth was itchy and I couldn't help it."

Mercer immediately laughed and said, "Since you've already apologized, then it's all over."

Makino's eyes flashed, and she shook her head with amusement. "Anyway, I didn't catch anything, so I'm fine."

"Oh right, it's settled then, you'll sleep here tonight. Yeah, you can sleep in my room. I'll go tidy up my parents' empty room, that's where I'll sleep tonight."

That's what Makino said.

Mercer shook his head at this, saying, "I'll sleep anywhere." He patted the sofa and said, "I'll sleep here tonight. I've been sleeping here all these days."

May I? "

Makino hesitated, feeling a little embarrassed to let Mercer sleep on the sofa, and was about to speak up to persuade him again.

Seeing this, Mercer smiled and said, "As long as there's a place to sleep, it's fine. Your sofa is quite big, so I'll sleep here. I can't cause you any more trouble."

Seeing that Messer had made up his mind, Makino didn't insist: "Alright then, I'll get you a blanket."

Makino got up to prepare a blanket for Mercer, who looked out at the night sky; the stars were already out.

"You should go to bed early too, Da Bao."

Ya Dabao nodded, jumped onto another sofa, and lay down comfortably, kicking his bird legs.

Mercer turned over and lay flat on the sofa.

A moment later, Makino brought over a blanket and pillow, and smiled helplessly as she looked at the person and bird already lying down.

After giving the items to Moses, Makino said, "Get some rest, goodnight."

"Ah, you too."

Makino turned off the lights in the hallway and went to her room in a corner of the living room.

Silent all night.

……

The next day.

Early in the morning.

After changing his clothes, Mercer ran around the windmill village at a steady pace, about five kilometers, before arriving at the warship to wash up.

canteen.

Breakfast consisted of large meat buns, white porridge, and stir-fried vegetables.

I had a delicious breakfast with Ya Dabao.

Then he got a bowl of porridge, a plate of vegetables, and five meat buns before leaving the warship.

Makino's house.

Mercer came over, took a thermal lunchbox from the kitchen on the first floor, prepared breakfast, went upstairs to the second floor, put it on the table, and then went out.

About twenty minutes later.

Makino wakes up.

As soon as I stepped out of the room, I smelled an enticing aroma and tilted my head when I saw my own insulated food container on the table.

I went over and opened it; there was a note inside.

【Maginot, remember to eat breakfast. Don't worry about the dishes after you've washed them. Don't wait for me for lunch; I'll be back tonight. —Méther.】

Makino took out her breakfast box, picked up some vegetables with the chopsticks inside, drank some porridge with her head down, and then took a bite of a large meat bun.

"You bastard, Moses, you didn't even wake me up this morning, you idiot!!"

His mouth was stuffed full, and he uttered some incomprehensible words.

In the lush mountains and forests.

Mercer arrived at Dadan's house on Mount Colbo.

The door to the wooden house was open.

When Mercer went in, he immediately saw Dadan cleaning.

"Hey, Dadan. Where's Ace?"

"Meme Mercer?" Dadan was stunned to see Mercer after so long, then overjoyed, before finally making a face and complaining:

"You're finally here! Go and keep an eye on that little brat Ace. He's lawless, always running off to the mountains. We can't stop him. I'm so worried about him."

Mercer rubbed his temples speechlessly. It wasn't unexpected; he was almost six years old, so it was normal for him to run into the mountains. Mercer was sure Garp knew too.

"Which direction is it in? I'll go look for it."

Dadan's face lit up with joy, and she quickly pointed in a direction. Messer looked at it and compared it with the way she had come. "The royal city?"

He smiled at Dadan and said, "Okay, I understand. I'll go find him. Don't worry, Ace won't die so easily."

Upon hearing this, Dadan's face darkened, and he blurted out, "It's better to be safe than sorry. There are big tigers in the mountains."

Be careful when you go to see him; if things go wrong, run away first.

Did you hear that?

Don't be like Ace, so clueless.

"Okay, okay, I know, I'm smart." Looking at Dadan, who was acting like a mother hen, Mercer gave a wry smile and immediately went out the door: "Don't worry, I'm not stupid."

He left a message.

Mercer followed the path in the direction Dadan pointed and disappeared into the woods.

Chapter 39 You can do it! I won't!

"Da Bao, um, he looks about 70% like me, a black-haired boy, can you help me find him in heaven?"

Moses said to the crow on his shoulder.

Ya Da Bao nodded, made a "ya~" sound, pushed off with its claws on Moses's shoulder, spread its wings and flew into the sky.

"Following the direction Dadan pointed, it should be near the 'Uncertain Terminal Station.'"
