Not long after, the mindless imposter lich, driven mad and starving, staggered over. Perhaps driven by instinct, he did the same thing as the first imposter: he stopped beside him, frozen in place before the astrology club's gate.
Like a magnet, before anyone knew it, more than twenty imposters were already standing in front of the astrology club.
almost.
The first imposter stretched out his arm, pointed to the gate of the Astrologers' Club, and threw a piece of flesh that he had previously hidden against the gate.
The mass of flesh slammed against the door, drawing the attention of all the imposters.
They were like war machines with their engines restarted, their eyes watching the chunks of flesh turn blood red.
"food."
Roar! ! !
The silent group of imposters went berserk, frantically attacking the gates of the Astrologer's Guild. Amidst the intense flames from the collision of flesh and magic, the gates collapsed with a deafening explosion.
The imposters stormed into the gang like jackals.
In the darkness, the peculiar imposter slowly walked among the beasts.
"Magical restrictions, outdated stuff. As expected, you're obsolete compared to advanced magic research."
"Ah, what am I saying? They are all things destined to perish."
Muttering to himself as if possessed, the nameless man crossed the threshold of becoming an astrologer.
"This doesn't count as me trespassing on to another club. I just happened to be wandering around outside and happened to find that food. Yes, because I'm currently driven by my appetite, it's horrible. Then the door was smashed down by my other crazy companions, and in the spirit of Andrei's lichism, I wanted to make sure my lich friend's precious materials weren't coveted by anyone with ulterior motives, so I came in."
"I bear no responsibility."
Looking at the interior of the club, which had been completely destroyed by the imposters, Wuming managed to squeeze out a few crocodile tears.
"Heavens above, what kind of destruction has my friends suffered? Look at their quarters, it's terrible. I remember they were keeping a precious starstone. Let me find it; such a treasure cannot be wasted. I'll keep it for them for now."
"I bear no responsibility."
The nameless man eventually found the starstone in the throat of a faker; in return, his right hand turned into bone.
Looking at the stone in my hand, covered in a dull, dusty light, I lifted it into the air. The points of light slowly swirled around the center of the stone, like a small nebula.
A slight smile appeared on Wuming's otherwise indifferent lips.
"Such a beautiful star stone, it's a sad story that your owner isn't around. Don't worry, I will protect you well until your owner arrives."
Snap! A skeletal hand grabbed the nameless man's ankle.
Wuming looked at the skull that was struggling to be raised from under the rubble, its soul flame flickering like a candle in the wind.
Despite the explosion of the magic field and the beastly trampling and destruction by the imposters, there is still one survivor here.
"Great! I've finally found someone like you with whom I can communicate. I implore you, please contact the Executive Committee immediately. Our club has been attacked by our crazed comrades and has suffered heavy losses. Wait, how come you have our Astrology Club's star stone?"
Wuming looked at the lucky guy, then pointed to his own blood-and-flesh disguised as a face.
Do you recognize me?
"I don't recognize you. Your face is covered in flesh and blood, so it's hard for me to see clearly."
"Okay, then I'll take off my disguise."
As he spoke, Wuming tore off a piece of flesh from his cheek, revealing his stark white teeth beneath his skin. The densely packed teeth resembled a terrifying smile that stretched to the roots of his ears.
*Thud.* The chunk of meat was thrown onto the skull of the astrologer member.
"food."
roar!!!!!
Several imposters rushed over and, amidst terrified screams, tore the lich to pieces.
The nameless man walked out the door.
"It's a real pity that the owner hasn't been found."
"I remember there are a few other clubs that I also need to look after without taking responsibility for them..."
Advanced Magic Research Club.
Mr. Gravity arrived at the nameless lab table with an experience report in hand. An hour had passed since he returned to the Advanced Magic Research Society.
Wuming was fiddling with some gadgets on the lab table.
"Nameless, what are you doing?"
When questioned by his mentor, Wuming stopped what he was doing.
"As you can see, some experimental equipment is being prepared."
“What I mean is, those things on your desk, I saw them on your equipment application form before. I remember it was rejected because those valuable materials were in the possession of some other organization.” Mr. Gravity looked at the nameless flesh and blood husk, his bloodless face expressionless.
"Can you tell me how you found these things?"
The nameless one blinked innocently.
“I found it in Andre’s corridor. You know, Andre is going through the Lich Bane right now, and there are always some unexpected things happening.”
Mr. Gravity sighed. “Alright, that’s irrelevant.” He waved the report in his hand. “Let’s talk about your problem, your experience report.”
"Is there a problem? I completed it truthfully and diligently."
"I remember this was supposed to be a report on the experience of starving flesh. Listen to what you actually wrote."
[After equipping the Hungry Flesh Disguise, the behavior of the Andrei Liches changed somewhat; I'll tentatively call them Disguisers to distinguish them from regular Liches.]
[Hunger camouflage is a truly remarkable area of research.]
Our companions, the imposters, exhibited some behavioral patterns of mindless zombies. I believe hunger lowered their intelligence and enhanced their motor skills.
This is extremely beneficial to our living environment; as we all know, fools are easy to exploit.
Using chunks of flesh as bait is the most effective method of taming. A lich can control and tame a maximum of twenty-seven imposters; exceeding this number will reduce efficiency.
Imposters possess moderate destructive power because they only engage in physical attacks like wild beasts, typically involving biting and tearing. Therefore, it is not recommended to tame liches with three or more locks into imposters, as this will reduce their destructive power and threaten their own lives.
At this point, Mr. Gravity looked at Nameless with disbelief.
"I remember you attended a gathering to experience hunger and carnivorousness, not some kind of observation party for degenerate apes. What's the experience or effect of eating? My student, were you attending a costume party?"
"My feelings about hunger." Wuming stroked his chin, carefully digging into his memories. "It seems no different from what humans experience."
"Completely no difference?! Such an important thing, and you just casually mention it! This is about making liches eat like humans, and you don't even bother to write it down!" Mr. Gravity looked at the indifferent Nameless. "Look at your expression, the excitement of regaining hunger, you don't feel a single bit of it! Heavens above, are you really a lich? Where is your desire?"
Nameless frowned. "Mentor, in my personal opinion, hunger is nothing to be proud of. Seeking out desires that interfere with oneself is simply a waste of time. The lich has already forgotten everything, so why go back to the past and rewind history? Teacher, why are you so determined to cause me trouble?"
Gravity looked at his students and sighed.
"Liches are nothing but remnants. My student, obsession is the only thing we hold onto. But you are unusually indifferent to all of this. Even the most indifferent lich has something they desire. We refused the invitation to the academic gathering because we were drawn to the mysteries hidden in the universe; that thirst for knowledge is our obsession. We are like embers beneath a flame; only by burning can we resist the winds that scatter us. I don't know what you want, my student. I don't want to see you exist like a puppet, lost and confused, only to vanish into oblivion someday."
“Nameless, you need a strong will to ignite your passion for life. You need to love something and strive to get it. That’s what I want to see.”
Under Mr. Gravity's heartfelt words, Nameless closed his eyes.
“Mentor. In my previous life, I was a holy son of the Silver Sages, a primitive worship organization that worshipped an omniscient and omnipotent Silver God. When I was twenty years old, we all sacrificed our lives to our Lord, praying to see His majestic countenance above the stars.”
“In the last moments of my life, I truly saw Him, His majestic body, which was connected to the starry sea, and His silver eyes, which unfolded before me like a magnificent gate.”
"The indescribable Lord has changed me."
“I can see the lines.” Wuming raised his palm.
"Born with all things, connecting time and offspring, the threads of fate that transcend dimensions and death. Stretch, entwine, break, mend. Teacher, you cannot imagine the sight, but now, they are entwined in my world."
"I cannot see its source; the myriad threads of nature form a vast network that transcends the world."
"But I can see its end. At the end of the line, all the threads are tangled together, leading to the end."
"This is the truth of everything, the end of all things. Master, everything is meaningless. Our world will eventually perish, and no one can escape it."
"Everything will die, even death itself."
"No matter what the process is, the outcome is already predetermined. Mentor, teach me, what should I like about this desperate situation?"
Gravity looked at his student and skeletal hand patted his shoulder.
“Silly boy, the process is what we’re obsessed with. Even if it’s all meaningless, even if the scattered threads will eventually come to an end, we’re not willing to become that hemp rope that’s always in place.”
"This is Andrei's choice. Nameless, we will weave the most beautiful flowers in our destiny. Even if we wither in the end, it will be a hundred times, a thousand times stronger than being buried in the soil from the beginning."
Gravity stepped back, looking at the silent student. He didn't know how much his words would affect Wuming; he had simply fulfilled his responsibilities as a mentor and a friend, and hoped for something good to happen.
The nameless one opened its jaw.
"Mentor, you're better suited for research. You shouldn't try to give advice to others anymore."
The nameless man moved his arm and left his experimental table.
"Although I haven't discovered what I like, I've started to be curious about that mindset. I want to relive the feeling of hunger."
The soul flame of gravity rises gently.
"Go, Nameless, do what you want to do."
“Okay, teacher, then I’ll go find Mr. Death Star II. I’m a little interested in tasting black holes.”
"Holy crap! Wait a minute! Kid! You can start with something more refreshing!"
Chapter 318 Rise of Darkness
The commotion caused by his insatiable appetite continued, and Andrei spent his first night in darkness.
Finally, the relentless devouring of flesh ceased its advance; they were all out of supplies. The lich calamity seemed poised to end soon.
However, those stagnant imposters actually only make up a small fraction of the attendees at the academic gathering.
Normally, most liches have their own pursuits and jobs, and even at academic gatherings, they only send a few, or even just one, representatives. This results in the number of participants representing only a small fraction of Andre's total population.
However, there are always exceptions.
Some special groups, who weren't interested in burying themselves in research, and whose obsession was simply to have fun, showed up for these kinds of social group activities. While not everyone came out in force, most of them did.
This academic gathering was no exception.
In a corner that Lyle hadn't noticed, some guys had carried their own chairs over.
