While cleaning, Yi Yue took a break and took out the quilt and pillow to air them out, and changed the pillowcases and sheets as well.
"Let's put it in your room first," Yi Yue said. The nearest room was Yi Xue's room.
The two of them carried the blankets and pillows and placed them on Yixue's bed. Yiyue then brought over pillowcases and sheets to change the blankets.
"Oh right, the clips accidentally fell onto the balcony." Yi Yue counted the clips that secured the blanket to prevent it from being blown away by the wind. There were six in total, but now only four remained. She figured two were missing and they must have fallen onto the balcony.
"You change first, I'll go look for something," Yi Yue said as she went to the balcony.
Yixue looked at the three pillows of roughly the same size on the bed and slowly smiled.
Put your own pillowcase on Izuki's pillowcase, and put your own pillowcase on Izuki's pillow.
You can't tell from the outside at all; you can only tell whose pillow it is by opening it up and looking at the color of the pillow inside.
"It's a pity that Dad's blanket is too big," Yixue murmured unsatisfiedly.
Yiyue returned quickly and saw that Yixue had put on two pillowcases. She then picked up Rena's pillowcase and put on the pillowcase with an anime character printed on it.
Rena is quite a homebody; her pillowcases, sheets, and blankets are all printed with anime characters. She even has a small body pillow that's half her height and has origami patterns on it.
These were all purchased with Izuki's permission. The glass cabinet over the bookshelf also displays many figurines.
Izuki didn't care about Rena's interests; as long as she was healthy, he wouldn't interfere.
He made a special effort to find out more, and although some of the things did have some negative aspects, most of them were just normal things to have fun with.
Yi Yue believes that her daughter also has the ability to distinguish right from wrong.
"Mmm, the pillow is warm and smells nice." Yixue rubbed her head against the pillow, gently sniffing it, her face slightly flushed, a subtle feeling stirring within her.
In Yi Yue's eyes, Yi Xue was holding her own pillow. But in reality, Yi Xue was holding Yi Yue's pillow and sniffing it incessantly.
"Dad, smell it too. It smells really nice after being in the sun," Yixue said with a smile.
Yi Yue picked up the pillow, smelled it, and indeed it had a faint fragrance. But the scent didn't seem to come from sun exposure.
Without thinking much about it, Yi Yue put the pillow down.
Yixue asked, "Daddy, does it smell nice?"
"It's alright." Yi Yue didn't seem to feel anything.
Yi Xue smiled as she looked at Yi Yue. The thought of Yi Yue sleeping with her pillow every night filled her with excitement.
"Dad..." Yixue's smile was slightly sickly as she breathed out and hugged her pillow.
"Hmm, what's wrong?" Yi Yue heard Yi Xue's voice. Yi Xue's voice was very soft, but face to face, even the softest voice could be heard clearly.
"No," Yixue said, her face flushed, smiling as if nothing had happened.
"Really?" Yi Yue asked curiously, feeling that Yi Xue was hiding something from her.
……
After tidying up the blankets and pillows, Yi Yue went downstairs to cook.
Because we're making steak today, we didn't cook rice. Steak is quick and easy to make, saving a lot of time.
Actually, Itsuki doesn't really like making steak, but Reina loves it so much that she forces Itsuki to make it.
"It's ready." Yi Yue brought out the steak, poured on the sauce, and stirred the soft-boiled egg.
"Mmm, smells so good!" Rena couldn't wait to pick up her knife and fork, took a bite of the steak, and exclaimed, "Mmm, so tender!" She then took a bite of the noodles next to her and exclaimed, "Mmm, so delicious! It's just like the ones you get outside, no, it's even better than the ones outside!"
Rena was overjoyed, feeling that having a dad with maxed-out cooking skills was just wonderful!
"Long live Daddy!" Rena mumbled, taking a sip of freshly squeezed juice.
"Eat slowly, there's more if you're not full." Yi Yue said with a smile, "If I make you steak, you'll say 'Hooray!' If I don't make it for you, won't you secretly call me a bad dad?"
“How could that be? Daddy is the best.” Rena giggled. “Who would call Daddy bad?”
Chapter Sixty-Nine: Keep it up!
Wednesday was the day I recalled Xue taking her middle school entrance exam.
After having breakfast early, Yi Yue drove Yi Xue to school.
There were very few people on the road. After passing a few streets, the intersection ahead was blocked off by traffic police with a cordon, and vehicles were not allowed to pass.
"Let's get off here." Yi Yue pulled the car over to the side of the road and said to Yi Xue in the passenger seat, "I'll pick you up here at noon, just wait for me here."
"Mm!" Yixue nodded with a smile.
Looking at Yi Xue's smile, Yi Yue felt her words stuck in her throat. She had so many words of concern that she couldn't say, such as not drinking too much water, just enough to moisten her throat; and not being nervous during the exam, just answering the questions carefully.
Yi Yue really wanted to speak; she felt uncomfortable if she didn't. But she held back, afraid of affecting Yi Xue and making her nervous. She also felt that Yi Xue was sensible and well-behaved, and didn't need him to say anything.
After thinking it over, all Yi Yue could say was, "Good luck!"
"Okay, Daddy, don't worry!" Yixue didn't feel any pressure at all. She smiled playfully, leaned close to Yiyue, pointed to her cheek, and said, "Daddy, give me a kiss."
Yi Yue gently kissed Yi Xue on the cheek, and Yi Xue whispered in Yi Yue's ear, "I won't let Daddy down." After saying that, she smiled at Yi Yue, picked up her water glass, got out of the car, and waved goodbye to Yi Yue.
Yi Yue nodded, pursed her lips, forced a smile, and waved to Yi Xue.
Although I have confidence in Yixue, I don't know why I feel a sense of apprehension. Perhaps this is the kind of worry parents have for their children.
"Haha, really." Yi Yue drove and laughed helplessly, "It's like I've aged ten years." Her smile slowly faded, hoping that Yi Xue would do well in the exam and get into the school she wanted.
When Izuki got home, she could see Reina lounging on the sofa, her eyes glued to the TV anime, right from the entrance.
Yi Yue said, both helpless and angry, "The exam is coming up, why are you still watching TV? You don't look like you're taking an exam at all. Go back to your room and do your homework."
"No homework!" Rena looked up at Izuki and said smugly. It seemed that not assigning homework was a very happy and proud thing.
"How could there be no homework?" Yi Yue asked in confusion. "The high school entrance exam lasts for three days, plus the weekend, making it a total of five days. Doesn't the teacher assign any homework at all?"
“There really is no homework, why would I lie to you?” Rena said. “The teacher said we can just look at the test papers at home to review.”
"Then why aren't you studying?" Yi Yue said, displeased. "Don't tell me you've already finished studying."
"Not yet," Rena said, sticking out her tongue shyly.
"How dare you say that?" Izuki walked over and tapped Rena's forehead with her index finger.
"Ugh, can't I even rest for a bit?" Rena covered her forehead, looking aggrieved.
"You, sigh." Seeing Reina's pitiful state, Izuki didn't know what to say.
"Take a break for a while, then go back to your room to do your homework, okay?" Yi Yue said.
"Okay," Rena said.
Izuki sighed helplessly as she watched Rena turn her gaze back to the television.
Izuki doesn't object to Rena having fun, but at least before the exam, she should act like it's a holiday.
Back in her room, Yi Yue lay on the bed, feeling exhausted and ready to rest for a while when the phone rang.
"Hello?" Yi Yue answered the phone.
"Is this your cousin?" a female voice came from the other end of the phone.
"Who are you?" Yi Yue asked, puzzled.
The voice on the other end of the phone said, "This is Xia Hong."
"Oh!" Yi Yue suddenly realized.
Xia Hong is his distant cousin, and they have a fairly good relationship.
"What's wrong? Is something the matter?" Yi Yue asked curiously.
"I have some things to take care of at home and can't get away. I'm also worried about leaving my child alone at home. Could you please watch the child for me?" Xia Hong said apologetically.
Just as I was moving, an emergency came up at home, and I was worried about leaving my child alone at home without anyone to look after him, so I remembered Yiyue, who lived nearby.
"Oh, it's nothing, just a small favor," Yi Yue said with a smile. "When are you coming?"
"Around eight o'clock, I estimate," Xia Hong said.
Yi Yue glanced at the alarm clock on the bedside table; it was 7:30.
"Won't this bother you, cousin?" Xia Hong asked shyly.
"No, I'm fine, don't worry," Yi Yue reassured her. "It's just a small matter."
"Okay, thank you, cousin."
"You're welcome."
"Let's talk later, I have something to do."
"Okay, goodbye." Yi Yue hung up the phone, went to the bathroom to wash her face, and then went downstairs with a renewed spirit.
In the living room, Rena was still engrossed in watching TV, unaware that Izuki was standing not far away, quietly watching her.
"Ahem," Yi Yue reminded him, pretending to cough.
Rena then realized what was happening, panicked, and hurriedly stood up to turn off the TV.
"Dad, I'll go back to my room to study right away," Rena said hurriedly.
"It's okay, watch it a little longer," Yi Yue said.
Rena looked at Izuki with a horrified expression, walked up to Izuki, and touched Izuki's forehead. "Daddy doesn't have a fever either, what nonsense are you talking about?"
Izuki tapped Rena's forehead lightly with her index finger, annoyed. "Stop joking around. We have guests coming later, so watch your tone."
"What guest?" Rena blinked.
“She’s my cousin. When you see her, you should call her ‘auntie,’ don’t be disrespectful,” Yi Yue reminded her.
It's fine if Rena is disrespectful to Izuki, but it's embarrassing if she's the same way when guests come over.
"Don't worry!" Rena snorted. "When have I ever been disrespectful? Dad is accusing me again!"
Reina asked, "When is your aunt coming?"
"She'll be there soon, she said she'll arrive at eight," Yi Yue said. "Maybe she'll be a little late."
"Then I'll watch some more TV," Rena said lazily, plopping down on the sofa and giving a contented "hmm" before turning on the TV.
