"oh......"
He stretched out his skeletal, branch-like hand and lunged at Victor.
"boom!"
John fired his gun, the bullet shattering Ying Daisheng's head. The zombie, now devoid of brain control, collapsed.
“Well done, John. Don’t be polite to those zombies,” Victor said coldly, retracting his bone claws. Those claws weren’t very effective against zombies.
“God forgives them.” John performed a Catholic ritual, silently looking at the bodies on the ground, and then said nothing.
“Perhaps there is no God anymore. Only we can stop these disasters. Umbrella Corporation will be the last survivor.” Victor said with a firm gaze and eyes full of joy. Umbrella Corporation had become Victor’s hope.
“Of course, there’s nothing a company can’t do,” Fredley said happily. As a member of Umbrella Corporation, he felt great.
Chapter 558 Zombie Horde
The mutant team's operation wasn't very successful to begin with. Their arrival here was already incredibly unfortunate. First, they were attacked by bio-monsters, then they were sabotaged by the remnants of Hydra. It would have been a disaster if they hadn't been unlucky.
Seeing John's current state, Victor felt somewhat relieved that his earlier words had worked. However, he knew very well that John's ordinary physical strength was insufficient to deal with a large horde of zombies. Overcoming this psychological issue would require many more battles. While the mutant team possessed considerable superpowers, the unfortunate thing was that they didn't know how to utilize their advantages; otherwise, they would still be easily wiped out by zombies. Those psychological issues still needed to be addressed.
At that moment, Victor, using her extraordinary hearing, sensed some zombies approaching, and her gaze sharpened. It was as if a wild beast had identified its danger and was searching for a solution.
"Damn it, a lot of zombies are coming. Use teleportation to get near our team's location," Victor frowned and yelled at John. John knew the mission was urgent, so he used teleportation to instantly appear near the mutant team. At this moment, the zombies' cries grew closer and closer, seemingly endless. The mutant team watched the zombies nervously.
"Guys, fire! Are you scared by those guys and just standing there waiting to die?" Victor said to the stunned crowd around him, as if mocking them.
Victor saw that apart from Zero, the mutant team stood motionless in place. He just smiled coldly. He had no intention of raising his gun to fire. The mutant team had been out of practice for too long, so he wanted them to regain their original fighting level, just like a superhero organization.
"Hopefully they're waiting to deliver the fatal blow to those zombies. I hope they get to the point of transformation soon. The longer it's delayed, the better, as it's detrimental to them!" Victor observed the battle intently. Several members of the mutant team had been modified by Umbrella Corporation and possessed other superpowers.
Victor used telekinesis to levitate thirty meters in the air, silently observing the mutant team's actions underground. If necessary, he would choose a different team. Just then, the zombie's two claws were about to collide with Agent Zero. Facing the oncoming claws, Agent Zero quickly dodged to the left, hiding behind the car and retaliating with his pistol.
Victor's finger gripped the trigger tightly, but he didn't aim or fire. He wanted to check on his men. He said softly to the others, "I can't fire yet. I have plenty of bullets, but we're all about to face those things head-on, so we have to hold on."
He knew his squad was his only advantage. Every battle they fought would yield different results, but they were running out of ammo. For him now, his only options were to conserve bullets and wait for an opportunity. Or perhaps use his superpowers to take out the zombies, or simply die.
As Agent Zero leaped over the car on his left, a grenade was thrown from his right hand, striking the zombie in the face. He used the force of the tornado to easily throw it twenty meters away. While firing guns indiscriminately is generally discouraged, it doesn't preclude the use of superpowers. Although the grenade's power wasn't particularly great, if it exploded in mid-air, it would still eliminate a significant number of zombies.
The zombie next to him felt something hit him, and the zombies behind him followed. He picked up the grenade on the ground.
"He actually picked up a grenade, in that case..." Agent Zero was very pleased. He lowered the pistol in his left hand and took the sniper rifle from his back, aiming it at the zombie's arm. Suddenly, a violent explosion engulfed several zombies, their upper bodies blown away.
Seeing this, the rest of the mutant squad quickly retreated a few steps and then used the nearby car as cover. It looked like he was using skillful attack techniques. The zombies were completely helpless against him.
Fred drew his assault rifle and retrieved several gasoline cans from a nearby helicopter. He kicked one over and used his assault rifle to spray bullets across the cans, yelling at the mutant team, "Guys, use your superpowers! If you don't want to become zombies, these things will keep coming. You need to overcome your fears; that's our hope."
The mutant team knew they were about to have nowhere to hide, and most of them wiped the sweat from their brows. As they pondered how to cope, a thought flashed through their minds when they heard Fred's words.
“Yeah, why should we be afraid? What are those zombies so arrogant about? Don’t think we’re afraid of trash like you!” John snapped out of his daze, gripping his gun tightly. He was radiating a fiery aura, the power of the Human Torch from the Fantastic Four.
The mutant team smiled as they watched the horde of over a thousand zombies charge at them. Facing the oncoming zombies, John swiftly extended his right hand, conjuring a three-meter-tall firearm. The zombies didn't flinch at the fireball, and Agent Zero conjured a tornado with his right hand. The others possessed other mutant abilities; their lightning and ice powers kept the zombies pinned down.
The mutant team's location slowly darkened; the zombie horde had entered their range, causing a temporary stalemate. The overwhelming superpowers were truly beyond their capabilities; otherwise, the situation wouldn't be what it is now.
The squad members seized the opportunity and pulled the triggers, giving the zombies no chance to get close. As Umbrella Corporation mutant mercenaries, they instinctively sensed danger, which is why they took advantage of the moment to shoot the zombies in the head. An overturned oil drum rolled into the zombie horde, and Fred threw a fireball, causing a violent firestorm.
"Rat-a-tat-tat..." At this moment, Fred threw another gasoline drum. Then Agent Zero fired, the sniper rifle in his hand, which seemed to have been silent for centuries, released bullets again, the bullets hitting the rolling gasoline drum.
"Boom boom..."
The oil drum, once hit, triggered a series of explosions, unleashing a raging inferno that devoured the zombie horde like a ferocious beast. The rest of the mutant team was thrown several meters away by the blast wave, thankfully they were in a city. They smiled victoriously, their confidence boosted by the battle.
Chapter 559 The Strength of the Mutant Team
The approaching horde of zombies outside the town actually made him feel quite good. The mutant team had recovered from their previous bad mood; they were still a formidable fighting force for the Umbrella Corporation.
"Really impressive, they actually overcame such a weakness. I'm not seeing things, am I? This is truly a miracle of the mutant team!" Victor was also secretly surprised. Zombies are always like this when people first see them, but their ability to overcome their inherent weaknesses still impressed Victor.
Victor had been watching the mutant team closely, and their courage slowly returned. Their eyes filled with excitement; seeing Victor floating above them with a smile, the sense of danger they had felt earlier seemed to vanish. Moreover, they felt as if what was happening was a game, and their fear of zombies diminished to a minimum.
"Let's get fighting! The battle isn't over yet!" Victor shouted to the people on the ground, and the others cheered.
Agent Zero wasn't overly happy; he was an analytical and thoughtful person. After the battle and the explosion, Agent Zero sensed that something was off about the atmosphere around him, a feeling that made him inexplicably uneasy.
A portion of the zombie horde was thus dealt with. Although the explosion had been highly destructive, Agent Zero was surprised to find that only ordinary zombies had survived. Was that all there was to it? He sensed something was amiss and knew that the matter was not yet over.
The others realized something was wrong. Suddenly, a huge concrete slab flew out from outside, smashing into the car like a long whip. The force of the stone was considerable; luckily, the car was sturdy, or it would have been completely destroyed. They all used their superpowers to support their upper bodies, while the others stared outside. They vaguely saw a huge figure stand up!
"It's really too naive to think that you can deal with these zombies, especially the special ones, with the power of a few exploding oil drums!" Victor shook his head and thought about it carefully.
After the initial horde of zombies had completely passed, Victor reappeared before the squad members. His body had not been injured by the shrapnel from the exploding oil drums and appeared to be unharmed. The others were also alright, but none of them suffered any serious injuries.
What came wasn't a Tyrant, but a Tank, one of the bosses in Left 4 Dead, whose body is incredibly strong, no less so than the Tyrant's.
"Looks like we have no choice but to fight now. We don't want the guys to get close and eat us up with those disgusting teeth!" Victor sighed, feeling helpless. He hadn't expected to encounter such a situation.
"Everyone, get down! I have a rocket here, let's take out that big guy first," Fred said seriously, and fired a rocket.
A voice came from behind Victor; it sounded like Fred. They all immediately dropped to the ground, turning to look behind them and finding that the others had already done as he had instructed.
Fred, with an RPG-7 rocket launcher slung over his shoulder, aimed the long warhead at the tank. Without giving the monster a chance to react, Fred pulled the trigger. A plume of smoke billowed out, followed by a fiery streak that struck the tank precisely. A massive explosion followed, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"He was hit by a rocket, it's all over!" Fred said happily.
Fred dropped the rocket launcher, convinced of its power. If such a heavy weapon couldn't defeat that tyrant-like creature, then there would truly be no justice.
Fred's confidence was not unfounded. RPGs are frequently used weapons, primarily for close-range engagements of tanks, armored vehicles, and fortifications. The RPG-7 is lighter, more powerful, has a longer range, and a smaller backblast, reducing the risk of burns to the shooter and making it harder for the enemy to spot. It can be fired from either shoulder. In Resident Evil: The Curse, Leon used it against a tyrant.
“He was hit head-on by a rocket, he must be dead. God help him!!!” John turned to Fred and asked, clearly uncertain about the outcome of the attack.
"Hopefully, this time we can really take him down!" Fredley's superpowers weren't particularly strong, and the enhancements were the same, so he was also somewhat uncertain, looking nervously ahead at Feng Xiang.
"Fuck! No way! It's still alive? What kind of enhancement did that monster get?" Fred cursed, the tank was completely unharmed.
As the dust settled, Fred cursed, his eyes filled with disbelief. A gigantic figure still stood there, like an unyielding steel giant, exuding terror.
"Roar." The huge tank was entirely black, but due to the virus, its life force was rapidly recovering.
Tank lowered the two enormous red hands that had been shielding his face, assuming the appearance of a ferocious bio-weapon monster. His injuries were more than just that; part of one of his arms had been blown off, and his body was more severely damaged by shrapnel, though the two enormous hands were protecting his head from injury. Clearly, he had used his arms to block the rocket-propelled grenade, minimizing the damage he had sustained.
The rest of the mutant team were stunned, standing motionless. This battle had exceeded their capabilities. They'd been killed even by rockets; what more could they possibly do? However, after thinking about it, they remembered they were mutants and gained confidence.
"Rat-a-tat-tat, rat-a-tat-tat, rat-a-tat!" Just as they were stunned, Victor opened fire on the monster, a burst of bullets aimed at Tank's neck. Tank's arm was already badly injured, and he couldn't dodge the attack. The bullets reached his chest, and he was slowly knocked back by the impact. As he retreated, he saw that the shooter was Victor, and he immediately turned ferocious.
“Fred, use your force field to knock them away. I’m throwing the gasoline can,” Victor yelled to Fred.
"Understood, Captain, I understand," Fred said, indicating that he was ready to take action.
Fred sprinted forward, dodging the tank's massive fist, and then slammed it down with all his might. The tank's enormous body was sent flying, and Agent Zero used a sniper rifle to blow out one of its eyes. Victor then threw a gasoline can, which Agent Zero instantly destroyed.
"Click, click, click."
"Fire!" Victor ordered the mutant team to open fire and destroy the thing outside.
With Victor's command, assault rifle bullets unleashed a metallic storm, hurtling towards the tank. Faced with such an attack, the tank could only defend, and thus the mutant team's battle was considered a success.
Chapter 560 New Zombies Unleashed
Three days after Hydra released its biological missiles, the morning sun shone on the streets of Reedville, Colorado, where people came and went as usual. But in the military conference room, a voice rang out.
A soldier slammed a report on the table and shouted, "Can anyone tell me what's going on here? This is the fifth murder this week! Who can find anything in a report? Give me an answer. We always end up finding some people who were killed at the end, like they're bloodthirsty."
The soldiers around the conference table exchanged bewildered glances, none of them offering an answer. The substance seemed to be contagious, the only connection being that the victims assimilated others, yet no eyewitnesses could be found. One of the soldiers slowly stood up and said, "Sir, I initially suspect this isn't a contagious disease but a virus? That's the information Umbrella Corporation gave us, and it seems they haven't told us something."
In truth, he was also feeling uneasy. The soldier glanced at him and said, "Should I make a call and ask those people from Umbrella Corporation to help us solve the case? This is a joint operation; it shouldn't have been related to us." This answer was clearly rejected, and the young soldier sat back down with a helpless expression. The meeting remained silent…
Meanwhile, in the underground conference room of the town's epidemic prevention station in Reedville, Dr. Mark sat anxiously awaiting the results of the blood test. A staff member from the epidemic prevention station brought out the report. Dr. Mark glanced at it, then suddenly felt completely drained. With a ferocious expression, he sat down in a chair and muttered to himself, "It's true. Hydra actually released all their biological missiles. It's over. No one can escape. It's true."
The staff under Dr. Mark frowned as they listened to his mutterings. This was not his responsibility, nor was it something he could handle. The report in Dr. Mark's hand gently floated to the white floor. The report stated that Hydra had released biological missiles, and their spread was now inevitable.
Dr. Mark continued his daily experiments with great pride. As a distinguished doctor specializing in virology, he embarked on a top-secret project to research a virus that could more quickly cure infectious diseases. Dr. Mark began studying the T-virus and rabies virus obtained from the military. He discovered that the T-virus altered the body's constitution, accelerating metabolism and making the body more aggressive, but causing the host to lose consciousness—all of which were theoretically sound. However, before any experiments could be conducted, he received information that Hydra had launched biological missiles across the world.
The missiles here contained components of a mutated rabies virus, causing extreme instability within their bodies. Infected individuals began experiencing fever, pale and peeling skin, severe dehydration, and increased aggression and appetite, among other adverse reactions. However, Dr. Mark didn't care about the outcome for the infected; it was merely another factor validating his theory. His only concern was the extremely high infectivity, but in such situations, General Ross and the military would quickly resolve the situation, leaving behind some corpses.
One day, after Dr. Mark obtained the corpses of the infected individuals for experiments, he inadvertently discovered a small amount of black, viscous liquid on his hand. Mark wet his sterilized glove with the liquid and held it to his nose; a pungent, fishy odor assaulted his nostrils. Mark seemed to know what this substance was; under a microscope, he discovered it was devouring normal cells, demonstrating its extremely aggressive nature.
And so it happened. Perhaps due to a researcher's carelessness, the virus still infected that person. A few days later, an unexpected incident occurred. Seeing the pristine white walls and floor stained with red blood, the overwhelming stench of blood assaulted Mark's fragile nerves. Dr. Mark slowly retreated step by step towards the automatic door, as if the once-white laboratory were now a hiding place for the infected. Clearly, the infected had begun attacking them, and Dr. Mark, in his tension, was bitten.
As Dr. Mark exited the automatic door, his hands trembling as he closed it, a sudden, violent crash echoed from inside. Startled, Mark collapsed into a pool of blood. Looking at his blood-stained hands, he screamed and ran back to his office. He pressed the emergency call button, and a piercing alarm blared throughout the town's base. Ten minutes later, after the guards had thoroughly inspected the entire laboratory and confirmed it was safe, Mark dared not step back inside. Pale-faced, he only dared to return when surrounded by a dozen heavily armed guards. The guard captain said, "Doctor, it's dangerous here. Leave."
Dr. Mark nervously told the head of security, "Quickly search the entire experimental base. If you find an infected person, shoot them on the spot without reporting!" Back in his office, Mark injected himself with a large amount of the T-virus antidote—something given to him because of his research abilities. However, what he couldn't find was an infection that wasn't actually the T-virus, but rather a dangerous, rapidly spreading rabies virus infection.
Actually, none of them expected that this place had become the setting for another movie. The new zombie apocalypse not only had the exact same name as that one, but everything else was also almost identical, with the corresponding characters and such still existing.
The story of "New Zombie Outbreak" revolves around a mysterious virus spreading in the small town of Reedville, Colorado. To prevent its spread, the government deploys troops to prevent residents from leaving the town, leaving the hospital overflowing. Corporal Sarah Berman and Private Bud take her sick mother to the hospital, only to find that the patients have suddenly transformed into ferocious, bloodthirsty zombies. They attack infected individuals indiscriminately, and anyone bitten quickly becomes one of them. Sarah and her companions flee in a jeep, but overhear on the radio that her brother, Trevor, is trapped in a building. To rescue her only brother, Sarah and her companions once again plunge into the carnage of zombies…
Furthermore, the doctor, who retained some of his consciousness, escaped from the laboratory, bringing the virus with him to the entire town. Centered around the laboratory, people continued to become infected with the virus, developing fevers, coughs, and nosebleeds.
As the epidemic worsened, in order to prevent its further spread, a military unit was dispatched to seal off the town, prohibiting everyone from leaving.
More than half of the town's residents flocked to the town's only hospital. The protagonist Klaus's mother was also infected. When she brought her mother to the hospital, she found it already overcrowded. Then, the virus broke out, and most of the people turned into bloodthirsty zombies that frantically attacked the living. The entire hospital became a living hell.
In fact, the Marvel universe is currently in a very dangerous situation. Various plots from the movie world have begun to infiltrate this world, and the future will become increasingly dangerous.
Chapter 561 A Twist of Fate
The situation with Victor's mutant team is still acceptable. After all, the members of the mutant team were originally members of the Watchmen organization. Although their strength is still a little lacking, it is about the same.
“Let’s use our superpowers! That will make dealing with those zombies much faster,” Victor said with a smile. Apart from that one mutated zombie, the situation had been resolved. If they hadn’t been quite strong, they would have been killed long ago.
"Understood, we understand." The remaining mutant team members, aware of their current predicament, used their hidden superpowers without reservation.
Perhaps the mutant team could now use their powers, for their power surged forth in an overwhelming display. Countless flames and tornadoes flew out, and Victor used his telekinesis to continuously throw grenades, instantly drawing envy from many of the bio-monsters.
"Boom boom boom..." The sound of explosions continued, and the danger was gradually brought under control. Perhaps the initial attack wasn't too severe, because they even saw some soldiers braving the zombie attacks to run over. They were quite surprised, considering it was already difficult for the survivors to find them under such circumstances.
On the other side, a Black officer—the same Black officer from the new zombie outbreak—discovered the mutant team via satellite and prepared to go there. The situation was practically hopeless; only their arrival could resolve it. Sometimes, words are unnecessary, so careful consideration is needed.
“Sir, those guys with superpowers are outside. Here’s a video.” In a base, a white soldier said to his black superior.
"Really? I need to pinpoint their location and then deal with these matters in detail." The black officer was also somewhat surprised; they didn't know why these mutants had come, and the situation was rather strange.
A few minutes later, after confirming their location, preparations were made to rescue them. Umbrella Corporation, needless to say, possesses considerable strength and influence; if their mercenaries were to arrive, the situation would be vastly different.
"Rat-a-tat-tat-tat..." The sound of countless gunshots rang out. The black officer and his men arrived. They had already understood the danger of the situation and were attacking without hesitation. They were not worried at all about whether the mission would succeed. In any case, if they didn't come, there would be no chance.
"Great, guys. It's those people coming over. We can get to safety now. Oh, and try not to let the zombies get here." Victor said seriously, clearly very concerned about the matter; safety was no one else's concern.
"Understood, no problem, this is what we should do, this is what we should do." Fred said happily. Although the situation was dangerous, their relationship was getting better and better, no longer the exploitative relationship of before.
