“You guys are quite capable.” Victor smiled as he accepted the weapons, which he considered part of the security measures.
"You're awake? Victor! I told you your immortality is incredible, you can't die," Fred laughed.
"Thank you. I won't die before you." Victor chuckled. Their friendship had been slowly improving ever since Stryker first used them.
"So, is the Fredley satellite phone still working?" Victor thought for a moment and asked seriously, his black combat uniform making him look very solemn.
Fredley frowned and said helplessly, "No. There seems to be strong interference here. We can't contact Umbrella headquarters. It's probably the work of the remnants of Hydra."
"Lost contact? That's bad. Let's continue the mission!" Victor hesitated for a moment, then said firmly.
“John, report our current location,” Victor commanded.
“The town of Reedville, Colorado, is about eight kilometers from the city center.” He glanced around at the half-finished buildings and paused before adding, “Moreover, this is an unfinished construction site, so our target location is still a bit off.”
Under the cold, dim construction site spotlights, a dilapidated door swayed helplessly, its surface stained bright red, as if a fierce battle had taken place.
“There are some here, everyone be careful,” Victor suddenly said. He had his own beastly instincts, and as a Level 3 mutant, he was one of the stronger ones, and his strength was considerable.
"I don't know if you can smell it after all this time..." Victor sniffed and then said. As a mutant with dual superpowers, he could sense a lot.
No one answered. They had all smelled it, but simply didn't want to say so.
Those strange problems included the stench of zombies, indicating that an infection was imminent.
If zombies are found here, then it's uncertain how many zombies might be found in other areas, making it extremely dangerous.
Victor and his mutant team wouldn't think about it, nor dare they. He could only treat this as his battlefield, not a place for entertainment. Only then could they fight without restraint.
“We need to go inside to investigate; this is also the boss’s order,” Victor said seriously.
Zero asked, "Walking? Fredley might be able to help if needed."
"No rush, I think we should get a feel for the situation here first," Victor said calmly, glancing at Zero.
“Guys, I think we should investigate this area. What do you think, for the sake of Umbrella Corporation?” Victor ordered, looking at the mutant team.
“I have no objection,” Zero said first. As Tang Tian’s most loyal subordinate, he was already quite capable.
“Very good then. Zero and I will be in a group. Fred and John will be in a group. Fred, wait here for a moment. We need you here temporarily. By the way, whatever you find, take it down with all your might, especially those things.” Victor ordered seriously. Victor had been following Tang Tian for a long time, so he was well prepared in all aspects.
“No problem, we understand.” The remaining people said in unison, clearly very satisfied with Victor’s words.
The Resident Evil outbreak is getting more and more intense, but many of the plots are still developing as before. The only difference is the emergence of variables like the Twisted Overlord and the Sentinels.
Chapter 556 The Spread of the T-Virus
Marcus and Red Skull's move to undermine the Justice League, the Avengers, and the Watchmen was incredibly shrewd, rendering their success futile. Furthermore, the large influx of mutated creatures allowed the T-virus to spread rapidly outside of Antarctica.
To the right of the Umbrella helicopter landing site was Victor and John's exploration area, where they ventured out to search for potential dangers.
"John, calling John, can you hear me?" Victor spoke into the dedicated communicator. As the captain, he needed to have accurate information.
"Yes, this is John. I'm doing well here. We're following up. Over."
"Keep in touch if there are any problems. If you encounter danger, use teleportation to get here. Over." Victor said calmly. Their mutant team had carried out many missions, and this was basically how they were deployed.
“Yes, Captain Victor. Over.” John said calmly. He was also quite unlucky; having a burden to carry around was not something everyone wanted to experience, especially in such a dangerous situation.
Here, because they arrived close to night, the searchlights had difficulty penetrating. Everything was dimly lit. Agent Zero turned on the tactical flashlight on his rifle, holding a Desert Eagle in one hand.
They arrived at a villa, and upon entering, the scene of devastation was immediately apparent. Dark bloodstains covered the walls and ceiling. The walls were riddled with bullet holes, indicating a battle had taken place. Most importantly, they weren't sure they would survive; in this situation, survival seemed impossible.
"Ding, this is a terrible place, damn biohazard." Something seemed to have been triggered on Victor's shoes, and Victor also turned on his tactical flashlight to get a better look.
Then Victor saw a sight that surprised him: a ground littered with yellow bullet casings and bloodstains, the condition of which was clearly not good.
"These are M9 pistol bullets on the ground. Ordinary people don't get their hands on this type of bullet." Agent Zero picked up a bullet, examined it carefully in his hand, and then continued, "These are military bullets. It seems even the local army can't handle what's happening here. The virus must have spread quite far, and it's basically unstoppable."
At that moment, Victor noticed a half-torn newspaper at his feet, mostly stained with blood. It clearly described the situation after Red Skull ordered the use of the biological missiles; the situation was obviously dire.
Victor slowly bent down and picked up the half-newspaper. He saw that it was half a newspaper, recording everything that had happened—it was the *Colorado Morning Post*. The handwriting was already blurred, but after careful examination, Victor could only make out a few words: "The end is nigh... The gates of hell will reopen... The dead will rise again..."
"Is the end of the world coming? It seems so. There's nothing we can do." Victor's mind went blank for a moment. Something seemed to flash through his mind, but he couldn't grasp it. However, he was certain that the biohazard crisis had indeed begun to spread slowly.
"Captain, this is John. I'm all right here. How's your search progress? Over." John's voice rang out again, clearly putting Victor at ease.
“Victor, this is Victor. We’ve found a large amount of blood and a lot of small arms shell casings here. It’s very likely that there was a gunfight. The biohazard has indeed spread, and the zombies are probably still here.”
"Well, my God, that's not a good idea." John paused for a moment on the other end of the phone, then looked helplessly at Fredley, who was controlling various electrical appliances in front of him.
"Fred calling the captain, calling the captain." Fred's slightly hurried voice came through the communicator, clearly preparing to say something.
"I suggest you guys come over here, I think I've found something," Fred said, as if he had discovered something.
Victor and John's group, of course, knew about the problem. So they went to the place anyway. At that moment, Fred was getting up from beside a corpse. He should have been standing still, but he was just bored and wandered around and found some good stuff.
“My God! They were so unlucky.” Fred walked over to Victor and said sadly, “And judging from that man’s clothing, he must have been a local soldier. Their faces were completely contorted. They probably suffered terribly before they died. The fact that their right-hand M9 magazines were completely empty proves that the survivors put up a fierce fight before being killed by those zombies.”
"Captain, what should we do?" Zero walked over with a pistol and said calmly.
"Aside from the large amount of blood and bullet holes, there seem to be no other clues here. Should we enter the city?" Agent Zero asked calmly.
Victor didn't answer immediately, but turned to Fredley and asked, "Fredley, were you able to make a connection via satellite phone using your superpowers?"
Fredley stopped using his superpowers, then adjusted them, shook his head at Victor, indicating that it wasn't working at all.
“Alright, let’s go to that town.” Victor nodded and said helplessly.
At this moment, Fredley said, "When we came in here to search earlier, we found a jeep at the left main entrance. I tried it and it still works."
“Alright, guys, let’s go! That’s a really good idea,” Victor said excitedly.
In the underground base of Umbrella Corporation headquarters in New York City.
The conference room now controls all of Umbrella Corporation's territory. Many mercenaries are moving in and out, carrying equipment, while others sit in front of military computers, typing away.
On a screen in the underground conference room lobby, a map of Victor's location appeared.
A blue airplane icon was flashing in the construction area in the lower right corner of the map. Don't assume it's definitely about Victor's situation; after all, they were the ones who sent Victor to such a dangerous place.
"Sir, we've confirmed that the mutant team has just lost contact with us," Wesker said earnestly, standing next to Tang Tian.
"There is an 80% chance it was a plane crash, and the number of casualties is unknown. Our losses are also being tallied."
"Then, what if we can't get through by satellite phone?" Tang Tian asked Wesker again, then gave a command.
"I'm not sure, but we can continue the experiment," Wesker said seriously after thinking for a moment.
Chapter 557 Infection Invasion
As the roar of the vehicle's engine grew closer, the jeep's thick tires crunched through the dust on the asphalt road. Their preparations for the mutant team were adequate; while they might be slightly lacking in ability to deal with a Hydra base, they were perfectly capable for an exploration mission.
A dilapidated road sign swayed slightly from the earlier vibration. The words "Welcome to Ridville" were written in large characters, but appeared pale and lifeless under the car headlights.
In the small town of Reedville, Colorado, the T virus is spreading. To prevent its further spread, General Ross dispatched troops to guard against it, unaware that the situation was already dire.
Inside the vehicle controlled by Fredley, the mercenaries remained silent, none of them uttering a word. The situation was already dire; they didn't know how long it would last, and it was beyond their control.
The mercenaries faced no obstacles on the road, so Fred controlled the vehicle's speed to be quite fast. After a while, the surrounding buildings finally began to densely populate. The town of Reedville was located here, and needless to say, it had been almost entirely infected by the T-virus.
“Captain Victor,” Agent Zero said, turning to Victor, “we’re starting to enter the town of Ridwell.”
“Then let’s check the equipment. That’s very important, otherwise it won’t be good if we get caught by those things.” Victor thought for a moment and replied briefly, then turned his head away without saying anything more.
"Click, click!" Suddenly, the sound of gun bolts being pulled back rang out from inside the car, clearly indicating that...
With a screech, a sudden stop caused the car to jolt slightly, but the people inside showed no change in expression.
"What's wrong? There aren't any zombies!" Victor asked loudly, his boldness seemingly masking his strictness towards his men.
"There's a problem ahead, I don't know what it is," Fredley said to Victor after thinking for a moment and opening his eyes.
"Bang!" The car door opened, and five mercenaries in black combat uniforms leaped out. Two vehicles blocked their path. Blood stained the ground and inside the vehicles, and the windows were shattered. Invariably, numerous shell casings were found, mostly assault rifle bullets.
The stark white streetlights illuminated the buildings along the roadside. Surprisingly, almost all the windows of those buildings were shattered. Doors were wide open, some even leaning precariously to one side, clearly indicating an intense battle that had taken place far beyond imagination.
"This place is really strange. After all, it looks like the biohazard outbreak just started, and the blood hasn't dried yet." Victor's sense of smell can detect the time of death in blood, which is kind of an advantage!
“However, I have a feeling something’s not right.” Agent Zero frowned and suddenly said.
"And something's not right here... Why is it so quiet?" Agent Zero also said something that made them uneasy.
The mercenaries fell silent. When they began the mission, they all knew he might be in danger, but this time was clearly different. Ridwell looked as if he had been fully infected, yet it also seemed as if it had just happened.
Moreover, the town of Reedville shouldn't be so eerily quiet. Perhaps there are survivors hiding here, silently watching them.
"Fred and Zero, you two go ahead and search for anyone alive. Report back to me immediately if you find any," Victor ordered sternly. The situation was extremely dire.
"Yes!"
"Yes!"
After two short responses from the microphone, the two men disappeared at the end of the street. They were carrying assault rifles and pistols, quite a few weapons, in preparation for the possible appearance of zombies.
“Let’s explore this place,” Victor said, turning to Fredley and John.
"Ding." At this moment, the transparent automatic sensor door opened, and Victor and John walked in.
This is a Western-style steakhouse, and it's in complete chaos, with only a few uneaten steaks scattered on the floor.
"Is anyone here? Or rather, are there any survivors? We are mercenaries from the Umbrella Corporation," Victor said calmly.
"Clang, thud..." A soda can fell to the ground with a crisp metallic sound, indicating that something had fallen to the ground.
"Click!" In an instant, both sniper rifles and assault rifles were aimed at the direction of the sound. To prevent the zombies from entering and for their own safety, the target was behind the counter.
"Who's there?" John said calmly as he walked in that direction. "Please come out. We are mercenaries and will not hurt you."
A figure dressed as Ying Daisheng appeared in John's line of sight. Ying Daisheng was covered in blood, his back to John, his shoulders trembling slightly, as if he were crying.
“It’s alright, it’s all over…” John lowered his gun, turned around and called to Victor, “Sir, it might be a survivor.”
Victor lowered his gun, intending to approach. But in an instant, his expression changed. He raised his gun with lightning speed, and at the same time, bone claws appeared.
"What are you doing?!" The kind-hearted John asked nervously, somewhat surprised.
"Watch out behind you! That thing is a zombie!" Victor yelled frantically, his eyes filled with murderous intent.
Zombies are different from normal people. This Ying Daisheng's face was a terrifying grayish-white, and his body was slightly decomposed, which was obviously due to the rapid reproduction of the T-virus.
The zombie's dark gray eye bulged out, looking terrifying. The T-virus controlled the remaining cells, devouring more energy.
Ying Daisheng cried out, and the sound was like a mouthful of phlegm stuck in his throat, as if it were the cry of a wild beast, making people feel uncomfortable.
