This puzzled Star-Lord, who then smiled slightly as if remembering something. He took out another metal ball from his pocket, attached a metal wire to the top of it, and dropped it down again. As Star-Lord grabbed the metal wire attached to the metal ball and slowly climbed up, he discovered that the laser beams from before had reappeared, and were even more concentrated than before.
"So that's how it is. Really, it's a trap." After saying that, Star-Lord activated the protective capabilities of his protective suit and slowly descended to the bottom of the deep pit.
It took a full five minutes to descend. Fortunately, the wire was long enough for Star-Lord to reach the bottom of the pit. After searching for a while at the bottom of the pit, which was filled with bones, he finally found a miniature dagger that was emitting a green glow.
"Is this the real treasure?" Star-Lord said, picking up the dagger and glancing at it casually. "I wonder why those people set up such a trap, and why the real treasure is here. What's the reason?"
Just then, Horace's voice came through Star-Lord's communicator: "Star-Lord, I can see them almost there. Wow, I can see those guys who were ambushing you."
"Heh, I didn't expect you to have a hobby of admiring corpses. Come pick me up, I'm tired of staying here." Star-Lord said casually.
“Okay, okay, I’ll be there soon!” Horace said.
Upon hearing Horace's voice, Star-Lord took out a small metal box, about half the size of his palm, from his pocket, put the miniature dagger inside, casually slipped it into his jacket pocket, and said, "Okay, I'll be waiting for you in front of the castle."
Just then, the entire castle suddenly shook as if it was about to collapse, which startled Star-Lord. He then realized that it might be because he had obtained the real treasure and triggered some kind of self-destruct mechanism.
Thinking this, Star-Lord quickly activated the hook gun's mechanism and once again left the deep pit, braving countless laser arrows. But before Star-Lord could even catch his breath, the sky above the half-ruined castle began to collapse continuously, and a huge boulder crashed directly onto Star-Lord's head as he flew out of the deep pit.
"Damn it!" Star-Lord said, twisting his waist to avoid the falling boulder, and scrambled out of the castle on all fours. Then, for some reason, he suddenly grabbed the box that was lying at the door and rushed out of the castle again.
Less than a minute after Star-Lord rushed out of the castle, the entire castle ruins collapsed once again, forming a huge crater, and a strange sound kept emanating from it, as if something was brewing.
"What on earth is going on?" Star-Lord frowned as he stood beside the deep pit, looking down at the sinking castle ruins.
"What's wrong, Star-Lord? I've detected a very strong energy fluctuation. What happened?" Horace's voice came through the communicator again.
Star-Lord replied, "It's probably triggered some kind of self-destruct program or something. Hurry up and come get me, it's too dangerous here." He then shouted for help again.
"Alright, stop calling me, I'm here!" Heras said, displeased.
Just then, a small spaceship suddenly flew in from a distance and hovered in the air not far from the ground. Star-Lord saw it and immediately ran over, quickly boarding the docking pod. The spaceship then soared into the sky and disappeared from the area.
"Phew, I almost died on this wretched planet." Star-Lord stepped out of the docking pod and into the cockpit, casually placing the box he was carrying aside. "Alright, time to get going. I have a bad feeling about this!"
"A bad feeling? You're not some kind of wizard, why are you saying these things?" Horace said dismissively. "Alright, speed up and get off this damned planet!"
She was a humanoid alien with a purple body, except for her skin color and green hair; otherwise, she was completely identical to a human. Although she didn't quite believe Star-Lord's premonition, she obediently activated the light-speed engine.
The spaceship instantly accelerated to its maximum speed, almost becoming a streak of light as it left the desolate planet. Shortly after the spaceship departed, the entire planet suddenly exploded violently. When Star-Lord and his crew, who were already far away from the planet, investigated again, they discovered that the entire planet had vanished from the universe.
“What a joke, we only took a small box,” Horace muttered.
“Looks like our employer lied to us.” Star-Lord couldn’t help but scratch his chest, where the treasure he had just stolen from that planet lay. Although it was a deserted planet, its disappearance from the universe because of him made Star-Lord very sad.
“Try to look on the bright side, Star-Lord.” Horace squeezed Star-Lord’s arm and said, “It’s not our fault. We’re just bounty hunters. Fortunately, this planet is just a deserted one with no other life. That’s a blessing in disguise.”
“Add this employer to our blacklist, and we won’t contact them again next time,” Star-Lord sighed.
“Alright, you’re the boss, so you call the shots.” Horace shrugged and said, “Oh, by the way, this box is the treasure this time?”
Star-Lord replied without hesitation, "Yeah, it's the real deal. I almost died in a trap because of it."
“Then let’s contact the employer now and send the items over,” Horace suggested.
"Okay, fine, you contact them, I'm going to get some sleep!" Star-Lord waved his hand, then left the cockpit and returned to his room.
In Star-Lord's room, lying on the bed, Star-Lord picked up the box in his arms, but did not open it. He simply held it tightly in his hand and then put it back in his arms. He always had a strange intuition that this thing would be useful to him. Although he did not know what this intuition was, after wandering in the universe for so many years, this intuition had saved him many times at critical moments.
"Sigh, whatever, I'll see what this is later." Star-Lord said, picking up the mission browser and saying, "Let's see if there are any missions recently. Ah, this is... Earth? Is this the place I've been dreaming of? The Milky Way, there's no mistake, Earth is being targeted. Damn it, that Thanos, why would such a demon target Earth? No, I have to go back before these guys find Earth!"

Chapter 336 Three Things Before Marriage
"Hey Christine, are you ready? It's time!" Adam stood in front of the bathroom, gently knocked on the door, and said, "If we don't come out soon, we'll keep them waiting."
"Don't worry, I won't be late. I checked the time, there's still half an hour. Plenty of time!" Christine's voice came from the bathroom. She continued, "You haven't forgotten your teleportation spell, have you?"
“I do know about teleportation, but didn’t you say yesterday that we should go there like normal people?” Adam said helplessly.
"But we're not normal people to begin with, hehe, I don't remember saying that." Christine said while putting on makeup in the bathroom, "Today is the day to try on the wedding dress."
"Okay, you beat me!" Adam shrugged, left the bathroom door, returned to bed, and lazily lay down to watch the news on TV.
At this time, the news was almost entirely about Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman's wedding. No matter which channel you switched to, it was all about interviewing Johnny the Human Torch and Ben the Thing. Of course, since neither of the main characters liked being in the spotlight, the reporters didn't interview them. As for Ben, he was worried that refusing the reporters might hurt them, so he didn't dare to do too much and could only passively accept the interviews.
"Ugh, seriously, they're playing this stuff all the time."
Adam silently changed the channel, then suddenly stood up, frowning as he watched the news on TV. An ABC news channel had suddenly interrupted the broadcast with a report that a group of armed men were attacking Citibank, taking people withdrawing money hostage, and had just killed one hostage because the police hadn't met their demands.
Of course, Adam frowned not because of the robbery itself, but because of a figure that had just flashed across the screen, and the time the robbers committed the crime at the bank, as mentioned in the news.
The figure Adam just saw on TV was Peter Parker, and the robbers were in the bank for a little over half an hour. This means that Peter Parker was in the bank but did not take any action, and just watched the robbers commit the crime.
"What happened?" Christine, having finished her makeup, came out of the bathroom and found Adam staring intently at the TV with a serious expression. She asked him, somewhat puzzled.
“Citibank was robbed, but the robbers’ goal wasn’t the money. They wanted to take those withdrawing money or conducting business hostage to blackmail the police for some purpose,” Adam explained, frowning.
"This kind of thing doesn't seem to be our responsibility. There haven't been any superpowered criminals, and I think Athena should have already notified the nearby association members." Christine asked suspiciously, "Or have you discovered something?"
“It’s Peter Parker,” Adam said angrily. “Although he’s been depressed since he came back, I haven’t said much, just hoping he could come to his senses. But I didn’t expect this to happen today. He was clearly there but didn’t do anything.”
"What? Peter Parker really did that?" Christine was incredulous and furious, after all, someone had already died because of Peter Parker's inaction.
"Damn it, has this guy given up on his conscience just because of a little setback?" Adam slammed his fist on the bed, smashing the wooden bed frame through it instantly.
"Alright, don't be angry. The important thing now isn't to be angry, but to get there immediately to prevent further casualties," Christine said, holding Adam's hand.
“Yes, now is definitely not the time to be angry, Christine, teleport!” Adam said through gritted teeth. “It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t thought he could think things through and calm down on his own, this wouldn’t have happened.”
“You are not God, Adam. You cannot foresee all dangers, nor can you save all of humanity.” Christine shook her head and said, “No one wants casualties, Adam. What we need to do now is catch the robbers!”
After Christine finished speaking, she immediately contacted Athena to find out the location of the incident. She then used teleportation to disappear from her home and instantly appeared inside the bank. In order to prevent the robbers from harming the hostages, Christine did not appear in the bank lobby, but instead chose a restroom as her location.
“Master, we have taken control of all the bank’s cameras and can pinpoint the robbers’ location.” Athena immediately reported her work, saying, “There are two snipers on the roof, more than a dozen people in the lobby, and two people in the manager’s office. Oh, and there are two people at the elevator entrance and stairwell entrance on every floor.”
"So many people? How did they get in?" Adam asked, somewhat surprised.
“According to video footage from half an hour ago, the robbers were sitting in a sightseeing vehicle and drove it directly into the bank,” Athena replied immediately. “So I had already notified the nearby E-class superheroes, but I didn’t expect these robbers to be so well-trained. They immediately took the people inside hostage, forcing the E-class superhero to temporarily halt his operation.”
“Never mind, it’s not your fault. After all, there are no super-powered criminals inside.” Christine shook her head and said, “Alright, let’s not talk about this anymore. Let’s go. It’s almost time for the kidnappers to kill the second hostage.”
“Alright, Athena, keep an eye on those guys for us!” Adam said in a deep voice.
“Yes, Master, but I still hope you can use your X-ray vision to take a look. Since these guys are killing people without any scruples, they must have some kind of backing. I suspect they may have planted a bomb inside the bank,” Athena reminded her.
“I understand, I’ll be careful.” Adam nodded and said, “Christine, let’s split up.”
“Yes, I’ll deal with those robbers in the hall,” Christine said. “After all, my magic is just right for this kind of situation.”
"Watch yourself!" Adam said, then flew out of the bathroom through the window.
After Adam left the bathroom window, he went straight to the rooftop of the building where Citibank was located. He quickly spotted the sniper lying in ambush on the roof. He first had Athena hijack the sniper's communication equipment, and then each of them knocked the sniper unconscious with a hand chop.
"Athena, do you know what their purpose is?" Adam asked as he walked into the building.
“According to my surveillance, the robbers’ target is their leader, the guy known as the Dragon. I just checked their information; they seem to be mercenaries who frequently operate in Africa. Their leader was arrested in New York last month.” After Athena finished speaking, she seemed to have investigated other intelligence and said, “It seems to be a simple case of rescuing their leader.”
"Oh, I see. What about Christine's situation?" Adam said, reaching into a corner to pull out a bomb and casually destroying it.
“It seems you need to hurry, Master. Christine has already used an illusion spell and easily trapped all the robbers in the hall in an illusion,” Athena told Adam.
After hearing this, Adam immediately sped up and knocked out the robbers on the floor. He also found about thirty time bombs, which shocked Adam. He wondered how these guys managed to get through the security system and plant these bombs in the bank.
In just five minutes, Adam had dealt with all the robbers in the building and defused all the bombs before arriving at the Citibank lobby on the first floor. At that moment, Christine had also knocked out all the robbers in the lobby. Yes, all the robbers, not just the ones Athena had just shown her, but also the treacherous ones hiding among the hostages.
"Well, looks like I won," Christine chuckled.
But Adam didn't respond to Christine's joke. He walked straight to Peter Parker, who was sitting in the group of hostages, and looked at Peter Parker, who had his head down, and said indifferently, "What a disappointment, Peter. But don't worry, we won't force you anymore. You can live your life now!"
Chapter 337 Before the Wedding (Part 4)
Inside a well-known bridal shop on Fourth Street in Manhattan, Dr. Reed and Susan were sitting in a table, waiting for Adam and Christine to arrive.
"Sigh, ten minutes have passed, why haven't we arrived yet?" Susan said, glancing at her watch.
"Perhaps something happened that caused the delay."
Dr. Reed wasn't in a hurry, because he knew that Adam and Christine were also superheroes in addition to their ordinary identities, so it was normal for them to encounter unexpected events from time to time.
“I’ll give her a call.” Susan picked up her phone to call Christine, but her attention was suddenly drawn to a news pop-up.
"What's wrong? Didn't you say you were going to make a phone call? What happened?" Dr. Reed asked curiously when he saw Susan suddenly freeze.
“I know why Christine and the others haven’t come here yet.” Susan sighed and said, “Look at this news. It’s true that there was a bank robbery at a Citibank in Queens, and one of the hostages died.”
“Perhaps they intervened because they saw that someone was already dead,” Dr. Reed said, stroking his chin. “But now that things have been resolved perfectly, they should be arriving soon.”
“Alright, then let’s wait here a little longer.” Susan nodded slightly and said, “Sigh, last time I finally managed to come all this way, but you didn’t have time. And now that you have time, there’s this unexpected murder. Is it really that hard for me to get married?”
Dr. Reed waved his hand and said, "You're overthinking it. Oh, look, they're already here."
Upon hearing this, Susan turned around and saw two people walking up the stairs. They were Christine and Adam. Susan immediately smiled and went up to greet them.
"I'm sorry, Susan, it happened so suddenly. We were already about to leave," Christine said apologetically to Susan.
“It’s alright, we didn’t wait too long. We just saw what happened on the news.” Dr. Reed came over and shook hands with Adam, smiling as he said, “Thank you so much for helping us choose a wedding dress.”
Christine smiled slightly and said, "Susan is my only good friend. How could I not help with her wedding?"
After hearing this, Adam said, "Alright, it seems we're blocking the passage. Let's go in."
Susan took Christine's hand and said, "Come on, Christine, they've finished making the wedding dress. Come with me and help us choose one."
Christine nodded, turned to Adam and Dr. Reed, and said, "Susan and I are going inside to change. The gentlemen can wait here for a while."
Dr. Reed smiled and said, "Then Susan is in your care." He then led Adam to the rest area inside the store and sat him down on a sofa against the wall.
Soon, a shop assistant brought Dr. Reed and Adam two cups of coffee and left. Dr. Reed and Adam chatted over their coffee. Since they were both men, and not particularly close, their conversation revolved around topics common to their shared profession as scientists—specifically, scientific research.
"Oh, I see. How come I didn't think of that?" Dr. Reed said with a sudden realization after hearing the little story about Adam's invention.
"I discovered this by accident, which shows that sometimes inventions are based on a fleeting flash of inspiration," Adam said with a sigh.
"Yes, that's true. By the way, I recently discovered a type of cosmic ray..." Dr. Reed also started talking about some of the things he had discovered while researching cosmic rays.
“Oh, I see. Oh, by the way, I’ve been observing an event recently, and you happen to be an expert on cosmic rays. Perhaps when you have some time, you could come to the Watchtower and help solve that mystery.” After hearing Dr. Reed’s words, Adam suddenly remembered the lost galaxy and thought that perhaps Dr. Reed could help him solve the mystery.
"Hey, what are you guys talking about? It sounds so lively."
Christine's voice suddenly startled Adam and Dr. Reed. When they turned around, they saw Susan, dressed in a pure white wedding dress, standing there somewhat awkwardly, seemingly waiting for Dr. Reed's praise.
Adam's gaze was drawn to Christine, who was wearing a pure white wedding dress and smiling at him, seemingly wanting to try it on.
