“Gwen…” Peter Parker stared blankly at his girlfriend as she walked away. He wanted to chase after her but didn’t get up. He sighed and said softly, “Maybe this is for the best. Leaving me might make her happier. And that child has grown up. Maybe it’s time for me to leave.”

With a slap, Gwen, who had just left, returned and slapped Peter Parker again. If she had only wanted to provoke Peter Parker before, Gwen was now really angry.

"You've really disappointed me!" Gwen Stacy said coldly, then left the coffee shop without looking back.

“Sorry, Gwen!” Peter Parker murmured.

In geosynchronous orbit, inside the Justice League's base watchtower, the other members had already returned. At this moment, only Adam, Christine, and Athena remained in the watchtower.

"Athena, Peter Parker hasn't been here for a while, has he?" Adam asked suddenly as he stepped out of the room after finishing an experiment and glanced at a painting hanging in the Hall of Justice.

“Yes, Spider-Man hasn’t appeared for three months. Not just at the Watchtower, he hasn’t been seen in New York City either,” Athena replied.

"Ugh, what is that idiot doing?" Christine said angrily after hearing this. "I'm not angry anymore. I'm the one who should be angry."

"Do we have to set up a psychological counseling service?" Athena curled her lip and said, "Honestly, these guys just want to leave whenever they want, they have no sense of responsibility at all!"

“Forget it, we can’t deal with them for now.” Adam sighed and said, “If they can’t even overcome this little setback, it’s a good thing to leave the Justice League sooner rather than later.”

Christine shook her head and said, "You really worry too much."

"Let's not talk about that for now, Athena. What new discoveries have you made about that thing we found before?" Adam changed the subject.

"I'm sorry, Master, we have far too little information right now." Athena shook her head and said, "We haven't received any news at all."

"Is that so? Let's continue monitoring. I have a bad feeling about this," Adam said after hearing this.

"Hey, what are you talking about?" Christine suddenly asked.

"I haven't told you about this because nothing has been discovered yet," Adam explained first, then said, "Athena received a strange message a month ago. After our analysis, we can roughly understand some brief information: a galaxy next to the Milky Way suddenly disappeared."

"Suddenly disappeared? Another galaxy? What does all this mean?" Christine was even more puzzled upon hearing this, so she asked, "Did you intercept messages from other galaxies?"

“It’s just a coincidence.” Athena shook her head and said, “A month has passed, but we haven’t made any new progress, and we don’t even know if the information we received is true.”

"And we seem to have no means to deal with an enemy that can directly destroy an entire galaxy," Adam suddenly sighed.

“This doesn’t seem like you, darling.” Christine walked over and said, “Don’t worry, if anything goes wrong, we’ll face it together!”

Adam was deeply moved upon hearing this and said, "Yes, we should face problems together, and besides, that kind of thing doesn't sound like it at all."

“Master, you must not let your guard down,” Athena said, shaking her head.

"Don't worry, I won't give up monitoring so easily." Adam smiled and said, "With your support, I can handle any difficulties."

"That's so cheesy." Athena pouted and said, "Alright, you guys keep being so cheesy. I have something to do, so I'm leaving now."

“Athena is shy.” Christine covered her mouth and smiled, saying, “It’s rare to see Athena like this. Oh, by the way, there’s something I want to tell you.”

"Hmm? What's wrong?" Adam asked, puzzled.

"It's just an invitation. Susan and Dr. Reed's wedding is coming up," Christine said with a smile. "Susan has already asked me to be her bridesmaid."

"Oh, the date? Since it's your friend's wedding, I'll definitely be there," Adam said with a smile.

“It will be a month from now, so I might be a bit busy this month,” Christine said with a smile. “After all, being a bridesmaid also requires some preparation.”

Chapter 334 Before the Wedding

Since the day he awoke from his coma, Adam seemed to rarely go to the company or stay on Earth. He had become enamored with the tranquility of the universe, and barring any unforeseen events, he had grown accustomed to a comfortable, reclusive life, basking in the sun and sipping coffee at the top of the watchtower.

Perhaps because of the many things he experienced in the dream world, he found himself disliking noisy scenes and preferring tranquility. He no longer wanted to participate in social activities as before, but rather wanted to stay in the laboratory and turn the technologies or ideas in his mind into reality.

Sometimes he felt that he was very similar to a certain version of himself in a dream, but he also felt that there were some differences. Upon closer reflection, the difference might be that Christine was by his side, while in the dream he was an enemy of the world and had no one he could trust.

For some reason, he has been thinking about things in his dreams lately, about his initial companions in the dreams, and about the Justice League in the dreams. He keeps thinking that there might be some connection between the two, although he doesn't know it yet, but it should just be because the time is not right.

Especially during the time Christine went to help out at Invisible Woman Susan's wedding, he felt a sense of isolation from the world. This sudden feeling, along with the things he kept thinking about recently, made Adam a little scared. He was afraid that one day he would be forced to leave Earth, and that he would leave without anyone by his side.

"Master, what's wrong?" A voice appeared in Adam's ear, startling him awake. He looked up and saw Athena looking at him with concern, asking, "Lately, you seem a bit restless, Master."

"Athena, scan my brain!" Adam said to Athena after thinking for a moment.

Adam also sensed that something was wrong with him, and that his humanity was gradually leaving him. So, in order to find out what was wrong, he made an exception and allowed Athena to scan his brain.

"Brain scan? Does Master think something has happened?" Athena asked immediately.

Previously, Adam had an innate aversion to such investigations. Even for routine physical scans, he hadn't allowed Athena to do them since his strength had grown. He always went to sunbathe alone, since he could absorb a certain type of energy from sunlight to heal any injuries.

“Lately, I’ve been feeling uneasy, like something’s going to happen, and I keep dreaming about those reincarnation dreams I mentioned to you before. I don’t think this is a coincidence,” Adam explained.

"Yes, Master, I will personally examine you!" Athena said seriously after hearing this.

As a special life form, and a life form composed of pure energy, Athena has the ability to transform her body into special devices such as brain scanners. After all, Athena is very familiar with these things. Since Adam's health and safety are at stake, Athena decided to take matters into her own hands instead of using the existing machinery in the watchtower.

After she finished speaking, Athena's body suddenly turned back into a translucent, watery substance, and then began to tumble and roll. In just a few seconds, it had transformed into a chair that resembled a brain detector.

"Master, please sit down. This scan will only be stored in my processor, so please don't worry." Athena's voice came from the chair-like brain detector.

Adam smiled slightly and said, "Of course I trust you, otherwise I wouldn't have let you probe me." After saying that, Adam walked up and sat on the instrument that Athena had transformed into, and put on the sensor helmet.

Athena saw that Adam had put on the helmet and began to scan Adam's brain in various ways. About an hour later, Athena let Adam get up, and his body trembled as he returned to human form.

"Have you found the problem?" Adam asked.

“Your brain is functioning normally, there are no other problems,” Athena said, frowning slightly. “Perhaps there’s nothing wrong with your body.”

"What do you mean?" Adam asked.

“When I was investigating your brainwaves, I detected a strange fluctuation, very faint, but I think I’ll be able to find its source soon!” Athena said with great certainty. “However, you still need to leave here for now, Master. It’s obvious that thing is trying to control you or change your thoughts.”

“Now that you mention it, I seem to remember something.” Adam’s heart skipped a beat, and he said to Athena, “Could it be that? I remember it has Christine’s seal on it.”

“I’m sorry, Master, I think it must be that thing—Loki’s staff. It’s the only thing in the entire Watchtower that we don’t understand and can’t destroy.” Athena said very seriously, “But obviously, Christine’s seal is still effective, otherwise you wouldn’t feel the change in yourself, but would be directly controlled by that evil staff.”

"But generally speaking, magical items can't activate on their own, right?" Adam thought for a moment and asked.

“Yes, that’s true. But Master, do you remember what Loki said back then?” Athena said, without waiting for Adam’s reply, “He seemed to have said that there was a being we could not look up to who had set his sights on Earth. It was also this being who gave Loki boundless power.”

“You mean, that staff is under that person’s control?” Adam asked.

“This is just my guess. After all, the price Loki paid for gaining power and support back then seemed to be the Tesseract,” Athena said.

“The Cosmic Cube, huh? It seems the aliens have their eyes on this wireless energy source.” Adam pondered for a moment and said, “Alright, go check on Loki’s staff, and while you’re at it, add a few more seals to it. I remember you seem to have learned sealing techniques as well.”

“Leave this to me. As for you, Master, go and help Miss Christine. After all, it’s more complicated for a top-tier hero to get married than for a regular wedding.” Athena smiled slightly and said, “Besides, perhaps you can also gain some experience in advance.”

“Accumulating experience, that makes sense. It seems we’ve made her wait a long time, and we still haven’t been able to give her a peaceful life.” Adam sighed after hearing this and said, “Alright, you deal with the staff first, and then pay attention to that thing we talked about before.”

“Okay, Master. Oh, by the way, the teleportation room is ready. The coordinates are inside the villa. Christine is resting inside right now.” Athena finished speaking and said, “Then I’ll go take care of the staff first.”

----------------------

In a villa on the coast of Manhattan, New York, Christine walked wearily into the bathroom. Too lazy to take off her clothes by hand, she used magic to teleport her clothes into the washing machine and then lay down in the bathtub filled with water.

"Ugh, honestly, I never imagined a wedding would be so troublesome," Christine complained. "I'm exhausted."

Today, Christine and Susan went to choose a wedding dress for Susan. However, as a superhero who directly reveals her identity, Susan received media attention no matter what she did. In addition, Christine herself is a Hollywood star. Since they went out, they have been under all kinds of scrutiny. When they finally arrived at the bridal shop, they found that Dr. Reed, who was supposed to be there, was not there.

"Sigh, that Dr. Reed is really something. After waiting for so long, all he says is that he discovered something amazing, and he's already forgotten that he's getting married soon." Christine sighed as she recalled what happened today.

Actually, she was thinking about what happened between herself and Adam. Before Adam's accident, she had already said that she wanted to hold a grand wedding with Christine. However, she never expected that a very simple invitation to watch an experiment would cause Adam to fall into a coma for a year. She herself also fell into a coma for a year for various reasons. After that, she encountered all sorts of things, and the matter was delayed.

"Perhaps this is the price of becoming a superhero," Christine remarked.

Chapter 335 Before the Wedding Part 2 (Star-Lord's Casual Chat?!)

In a distant, desolate star field, a man dressed in a black bodysuit, a burgundy trench coat, and a strange helmet was walking quickly through ruins that appeared to be a castle. As he walked, he kept looking around, as if he wasn't the only one in the ruins.

Just as the man approached the collapsed castle gate, he suddenly dodged the laser beam that was not coming from anywhere, drew his energy gun, and fired a few shots at the castle gate. Then, a strangely shaped humanoid monster fell in front of the gate.

"Hmph, you're centuries too early to kill me," the man chuckled smugly, then walked into the castle, saying, "Heh, so it really is here."

After the man finished speaking, he pressed a button on his helmet. A green light flashed on the helmet's visor, and the castle, which was originally very dark, appeared very bright in the man's eyes.

"Hey, Star-Lord, have you found the treasure?" A woman's voice came to the ears of the man known as Star-Lord.

"Yes, I found it. It's right there in the castle hall. I'll send you a picture right now." Star-Lord said, transmitting the found item to the woman who had just spoken through the sensor on his helmet.

“It really is this!” The woman’s voice carried a hint of joy as she said, “But you have to be careful. The reason this thing is still here is because it has been perfectly protected.”

Star-Lord walked into something resembling an altar, looked at the box engraved with strange characters, and said calmly, "That's because it hasn't met me yet. As for the protection you mentioned, oh, I just sent it on its way."

As Star-Lord spoke, he grabbed the box, but at that moment, the entire altar suddenly collapsed with a loud crash, and Star-Lord and the box he was holding fell into the deep pit below them.

"Star-Lord, are you alright?" the woman who heard his voice through the communicator asked with concern.

"I'm fine, Horace. I'll be back soon. Come pick me up!"

After Star-Lord finished speaking, he took out a grappling hook and shot out a hook with a metal wire attached. The hook hit the pillar above, and the seemingly inconspicuous hook sank into the pillar as if it had hit tofu. Star-Lord stopped falling and hung in mid-air.

"Hey, are you alright?" Heras continued to ask.

"It's alright, I'll be back soon!" Star-Lord said, activating the hook gun's mechanism and shooting out of deep space with a whoosh. However, during the process, he was hit by countless energy arrows.

What's really strange is that these energy arrows didn't harm Star-Lord after they hit him; instead, they were absorbed by his burgundy trench coat.

"Phew, thank goodness I have this suit, otherwise I might have really been tricked and killed by these aliens here," Star-Lord muttered to himself.

“Hey, Star-Lord, what are you talking about? What planet’s language is that? I’ve never heard of it before,” Horace asked.

“No, it’s just a cosmic dialect.” Star-Lord said, “Alright, we got the stuff, come pick me up!”

“Okay, wait for me for thirty minutes!” Horace said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Star-Lord turned off his communicator and helmet sensors, stroked his chin, stared at the box in his hand, and gently caressed the patterns on it. However, he couldn't help but think of the countless skeletons of creatures at the bottom of the deep pit. They seemed to be the skeletons of adventurers or bounty hunters who wanted to take this treasure. If he hadn't overheard some secret information from an elderly mercenary who had been here once before, perhaps his own skeleton would have been buried in that strange pit.

Why is it strange? Because there seems to be something strange underground in that pit. Just as he flew out of the pit, he seemed to see something flashing, which puzzled Star-Lord, but he didn't know what that thing was.

'Should we go down and take a look?' Star-Lord thought, stroking his chin. He was a man full of adventurous spirit, so when he encountered something that interested him, his adventurous genes kept urging him to go down and take a look.

“Heras will arrive in twenty-eight minutes. This modified protective suit I’m wearing should be able to withstand a burst of laser beams,” Star-Lord muttered to himself. “In that case, I’ll go check it out.”

After Star-Lord finished speaking, he returned to the castle and found that the shattered altar had been restored to its original state, and there was a box on it that looked exactly like the one he had in his hand, which surprised Star-Lord greatly.

"Tch, it's a fake!" Star-Lord casually tossed the box on the ground and returned to the vicinity of the altar.

Star-Lord looked at the altar for a while, then took out some tools from his tool bag and combined them in a certain order to make a simple stand. He placed it on both sides of the altar, then took out a metal wire and attached it to the metal stand. After everything was ready, he picked up the very ancient-looking box that was on the altar and threw it on the ground.

With a deafening roar, the altar collapsed once more, but having learned from his previous experience, Star-Lord didn't fall in again. Instead, he managed to stay afloat above the pit thanks to his earlier preparations. He then took something out of his pocket and threw it down, only to find that the laser beam that had attacked him earlier hadn't appeared.
