“That’s no problem.” Tony waved his hand and said, “Now we need to customize the plan and also take into account the atmospheric obstruction.”

Adam was taken aback and said, "Don't you usually do things first and think about them later?"

“Well, that’s true, but those are areas I’m familiar with,” Tony shrugged and said, “I’m still very humble when it comes to areas I’m not familiar with.”

“Well, this is the first time I’ve heard something like that,” Athena chuckled.

Clap~ Clap~ Clap~~~ Adam clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention to himself, and said, "Alright, Tony and I will take care of the materials. Athena and Christine, you two study the runes and choose the most effective set as quickly as possible!"

"OK, no problem!"

"Okay, got it."

And so, under Adam's guidance, Tony transported the materials to the watchtower and began researching ways to stop teleportation. As for Earth's safety, with so many superheroes, Superman would have no role to play unless a supervillain with overwhelming power emerged.

Time passed slowly. While Adam and his team were still conducting their research, S.H.I.E.L.D. on the ground had already begun its own plan, starting to recruit second-tier superheroes into S.H.I.E.L.D.'s special forces, and secretly investigating and tracking powerful superhumans or superheroes.

On the other hand, Nick Fury found Dr. Eric and placed the Tesseract in front of him. As a scientist who excelled in many fields, Dr. Eric knew what the Tesseract was after a moment's thought.

“The Cosmic Cube? I thought it was still lying at the bottom of the ocean.” Dr. Eric paused, then said, “It’s a truly fascinating thing.”

"So, do you want to research this?" Nick Fury's voice held a hint of seduction as he said, "I can put you in charge of the entire project!"

“I need all the information,” Dr. Eric said with a hint of excitement. “I know Mr. Howard and his team have studied this before, and of course I have some ideas of my own. I also need an assistant.”

“Of course, everything you mentioned will come to pass,” Nick Fury said calmly.

“Okay, I agree.” Such an opportunity is almost nonexistent, and it would be foolish not to seize it. Dr. Eric was clearly not a fool. He looked at Nick Fury and continued, “Also, I need to say goodbye to my family. I want to get involved in your plans from the moment I begin. Perhaps I won’t be able to go home for a while.”

Nick Fury smiled and said, "Of course, Doctor, we're not kidnapping you."

Dr. Eric smiled noncommittally and said, "Then may I go home? I need to get some clean clothes, and, well, my last dinner."

“Sure, I’ll arrange a car to take you there,” Nick Fury said casually.

“Thank you so much.” Dr. Eric shrugged and followed Nick Fury out of the laboratory.

Shortly after they left, Loki's figure appeared in the mirror in the room, looking at the Tesseract locked inside the box.

"Stay put on Earth, I'll be taking you all away soon." Loki grinned wickedly and vanished in an instant.

No one spotted Loki. Neither the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents nor Adam and his team, who were investigating the problem, noticed the Loki who had just appeared. Clearly, what had just appeared was not Loki himself, but some kind of magic that no one knew about.

And so, with no one else noticing Loki, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research began. Dr. Erik had already said goodbye to his family and was fully immersed in the research. However, the Tesseract was not something that current technology could fully analyze, so after a month of research, Dr. Erik's temper became somewhat irritable.

On this day, Dr. Eric and Hawkeye, who was on guard duty, had an argument. Of course, it was Dr. Eric who was yelling the whole time, while Hawkeye, being a very resolute agent, didn't react at all.

Dr. Eric cursed for a while, but when he realized that the other party didn't care about him at all, he went up to the beam above the laboratory, snorted, and went back to his room. He picked up a bottle of wine and started drinking it, and soon he was drunk.

Just when Nick Fury thought that Dr. Eric couldn't figure out the Tesseract, Dr. Eric came out the next day in high spirits. He not only apologized to Hawkeye, but also specially sought out Nick Fury to tell him that his research had finally made a breakthrough and that he had finally solved the problem in his dream.

"You should know you don't have much time left," Nick Fury said with a touch of arrogance. "There are so many scientists in the world, and many more who want to study the Tesseract."

"I know that. I just need a month. Trust me, this time we will succeed," Dr. Eric said confidently.

“Alright.” Nick Fury thought for a moment and said, “I’ll give you one more chance, but you need to understand, Doctor, this is the last chance!”

Dr. Eric patted his chest and said, "Don't worry this time, I will definitely show you my research, a research that will astound you and the whole world!"

Chapter 287 Loki Arrives

Just one month later, Nick Fury received good news from Dr. Eric: he had basically confirmed the correct way to use the Tesseract, which was the key to open a door. Dr. Eric had now built a door and was preparing to open this legendary door to see what was on the other side.

“It seems we might be witnessing a miracle today,” Nick Fury said to Phil Coulson, placing the intelligence report on the table beside him. “It seems Howard Stark’s research direction was indeed wrong.”

After hearing this, Phil Coulson said, "Speaking ill of others behind their backs is not your style, Director, but I have to admit that Dr. Eric is indeed a genius."

“Well, I’ve been under too much pressure from the Starks, so I’m getting a little sensitive.” Nick Fury shrugged. “Alright, let’s head out tonight and check out Dr. Eric’s experiment.”

“Then I’ll inform Commander Maria,” Phil Coulson said.

“Alright, go and let them know. But who knows where she is? She's been missing since Adam Stark and the others disappeared a few months ago.” Nick Fury sat on the sofa and said, “Maybe she's not even on Earth.”

“Well, okay, I’ll try to contact her.” Phil Coulson paused, then said, “Director, you can actually continue to trust Commander Maria Hill, because she is your student, and your best student at that.”

After Phil Coulson finished speaking, he left Nick Fury's office, leaving Nick Fury sitting on the sofa, lost in thought with a blank expression.

That evening, when Nick Fury arrived at Dr. Eric's laboratory, he found Maria Hill already inside directing the agents in preparation for an evacuation. The experiment that was about to take place was fraught with uncertainty, and a serious accident could occur if things went wrong.

"It seems you've made all the arrangements." Nick Fury said, a slight smile appearing on his serious face as he looked at the orderly flow of troops.

"Most of the equipment has been removed. Only the research team is still inside assisting the doctor with his experiments." Maria Hill nodded slightly and said, "The doctor seems a bit off. Be careful."

“Oh, is something wrong?” Nick Fury stopped and asked, “Have you received some instructions from Adam Stark?”

Maria Hill frowned and said coldly, "I'm just giving you a friendly reminder. This research direction is different from before. Dr. Eric is preparing to open a spatial portal, and he doesn't even know what's outside."

Nick Fury was taken aback by his words and said, "Is this your own judgment?"

"Hmph, you've become a bit insecure lately, teacher!" Maria Hill said coldly. "You haven't recovered from the last blow, have you? But don't worry, Adam has high aspirations; a tiny Earth can't confine him!"

Maria Hill turned and left after speaking. Although they were of one mind on matters of principle, Maria Hill simply didn't want to be with Nick Fury anymore. She told Phil Coulson to stay with Nick Fury while she continued to oversee the evacuation, choosing to avoid seeing him altogether.

“You went a bit too far, Director,” Phil Coulson shrugged. “Actually, I also have some concerns about this experiment, perhaps because of the fear of the unknown.”

“Alright, enough of that. We need to find a way to use the Tesseract.” Nick Fury frowned and said, “I’m really curious about how Hydra managed to convert the Tesseract’s energy back then. It’s true, they’ve been researching it for half a century without making any progress. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been looking for other uses for the Tesseract.”

“Okay, I hope you’re right,” Phil Coulson paused, then said.

“If it weren’t for gods and demons constantly appearing on Earth, I wouldn’t have become like this.” Nick Fury sighed and said, “Time is running out. I have a feeling that the peace on Earth can’t continue because we have been discovered by those advanced planets in the universe.”

Phil Coulson remained silent after hearing this. He knew that in most things, Nick Fury was thinking of the comfort of the Earth, well, except for the matter of Adam Stark, because that matter had become his inner demon.

Without exchanging a word, Nick Fury and Phil Coulson approached the vast underground space, where S.H.I.E.L.D.'s research team was busily conducting final adjustments. Dr. Erik, meanwhile, stared excitedly at the surrounding equipment before beginning the final programming on his computer.

"Phil, go and arrange the evacuation of the researchers," Nick Fury instructed calmly.

Phil Coulson nodded, signaling the researchers to retreat with their important data and equipment, while he arranged vehicles for them. Nick Fury went inside alone, and soon encountered Hawkeye, who had come down after seeing him.

"No surprises, right?" Nick Fury asked, looking at Dr. Eric.

"I've been keeping an eye on him," Hawkeye said calmly. "Nothing has gone wrong on our side, and he's just been studying the Rubik's Cube."

"What do you mean by that?" Nick Fury asked. Maria Hill had just said something similar, which made him feel that something was wrong.

"Didn't you keep saying we were making a door?" Hawkeye looked at the device connected to the Tesseract and said, "In my memory, a door can be opened from both sides."

Just then, Dr. Eric saw Nick Fury and Hawkeye and walked over with a happy expression.

"Oh, you've arrived. Haha, today is truly a day to witness miracles," Dr. Eric said with a confident smile.

"Hopefully, what we're about to see is a miracle, not something else," Nick Fury said calmly.

“Oh, I must say, sir, your sixth sense is remarkably accurate,” Hawkeye interrupted the two men, just as Dr. Eric was about to say something.

The two turned around and saw that the device Dr. Eric and his team had created was automatically charging, which gave the three of them a very bad feeling.

"What's going on? Dr. Eric, what exactly are you trying to do?" Nick Fury asked Dr. Eric in a deep voice.

Dr. Eric panicked and quickly went over to the computer to start operating it, but after only a few minutes he said in a panic, "How is this possible? I can't stop it at all. It's starting up automatically."

"Sever it right now!" Nick Fury practically roared. "Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!!! Level One Alert!"

Dr. Eric, sweating profusely, said, "It just won't stop! It's too late!"

Just then, a beam of blue light shot out, and a young man wearing a deer antler helmet, a green robe, and with an arrogant expression walked out of the blue light, then looked at everyone with a wicked smile.

"Hey sir, who are you?" Nick Fury shouted at the young man, and gave a signal for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents who came running to form a circle around him.

"Me? Heh, I am your ruler, the one who brought you freedom." The newcomer raised his head, revealing a very handsome face, holding a staff inlaid with transparent crystal, and exuding a refined and virtuous air.

“Sir, put down your weapon and state your purpose!” Nick Fury said coldly.

"Oh, you mean this?" The newcomer tilted his head, pointed to the staff in his hand, and then, seeing the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents surrounding him, sneered, "This won't do. I finally got this treasure."

As the young man spoke, he casually waved his staff, and several invisible magic orbs shot out instantly, striking the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents and sending them flying, tumbling about. He then walked gracefully into Dr. Erik's room.

Chapter 288 The Cosmic Cube Was Stolen

"Who...who are you?" Dr. Eric asked in a panic.

"Me? You don't recognize me so quickly?" The newcomer tilted his head, chuckling as if he didn't take the agents of the entire base seriously, and said, "I've helped you solve a lot of problems these past few days, and you've already forgotten?"

"How could that be? That...that was just my dream!" Dr. Eric's face turned deathly pale instantly, and he murmured.

Nick Fury frowned and said, "So you're saying you deliberately revealed this portal to Dr. Eric?"

"Correct!" The newcomer clapped his hands and said, "It's a pity there's no reward."

"Who exactly are you?" Nick Fury asked in a deep voice.

"Me?" The newcomer smiled slightly and said, "I will be your ruler, your only god—Loki!"

"So it was you, the one who controlled the Destroyer Armor last time. But just you alone?" Nick Fury paused, looking at Loki's increasingly gloomy face, and said coldly, "You seem to have forgotten your experience of being defeated last time."

With a loud bang, Nick Fury was blasted far away by Loki's magic, landing on the ground not far from the Tesseract. However, Loki didn't pay any attention to him and instead shouted angrily.

"That time it was because I was in the Celestial Palace. You have no idea how difficult it is to remotely control a weapon!"

“Oh, I remember now, I’ve heard of you,” Dr. Eric said, seemingly recovering from his initial shock. “You’re Thor’s brother, that evil god Loki! What do you want? What have you done to me?”

"It's not about what will happen to me, it's about us!"

Loki seemed to have regained his elegant demeanor, casually placing the front of the red magic circle against Dr. Eric's chest. The gem on the magic circle emitted a faint light, and Dr. Eric was instantly frozen in place. His eyes then turned an unnatural blue, and he stopped resisting, standing quietly beside Loki.

This turn of events shocked Nick Fury, who was putting the Tesseract into a special safe box. Although Professor X, with his powerful psychic abilities, could also control others, Loki's method seemed different. The controlled individuals still retained their own consciousness, all their knowledge and memories; it was just that their minds were controlled by Loki.

Loki seemed quite surprised by the power of the staff in his hand, a smile appearing on his lips. He then assimilated several agents and calmly looked at Nick Fury and the Tesseract in his hand. Wasn't that the very thing he came here for? With the Tesseract and the scientist beside him, rebuilding another portal would be a very simple matter.

Just then, several whooshing sounds came from the air. Loki saw that it was the short man who had just been standing on their side, shooting arrows at high altitude. The arrows instantly hit the two agents he had just controlled, and another one flew straight towards him.

Loki's expression remained unchanged, and without using his staff, he simply cast a protective spell with his left hand to block Hawkeye's attack. Then, he flashed to Hawkeye's side, and his staff, capable of controlling minds, instantly pressed against Hawkeye's chest. Hawkeye, one of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most elite hunters, became Loki's loyal hound.

"Oh, what a wonderful feeling, isn't it? Hey hey hey, I'm talking to you, One-Eyed. Put down that box you're carrying. That's not your stuff." Loki's voice made Nick Fury, who was about to quietly leave, stop in his tracks.

Knowing he couldn't leave, Nick Fury tightened his grip on the suitcase, turned around, and said calmly, "Loki, what exactly do you want to do? You're going to plunge Asgard and Earth into war."

He glanced discreetly at the churning energy above Loki and the others' heads. It was the energy left behind from the forced removal of the Tesseract, and it would explode in a few seconds. Since he couldn't stop them, he would buy himself some time and perish together with them.

"Sir, Commander Nick is stalling for time; this place is about to explode." Hawkeye, who had been assimilated, was, after all, a high-ranking agent. He instantly guessed Nick Fury's plan based on his expression and the knowledge he had.

"Kill him, take the stuff and let's go!" Loki paused for a moment, then looked at the energy above and realized that even he couldn't guarantee he wouldn't get hurt, so he immediately gave the order.

Upon hearing Hawkeye's words, Nick Fury was about to do something when Hawkeye shot him in the chest, causing him to fall to the ground. Perhaps Loki didn't care about Fury's life or death, or perhaps Hawkeye's negative emotions, amplified by his assimilation, had become somewhat arrogant; therefore, neither of them checked Nick Fury's 'body.' They picked up the box that had fallen to the ground, stepped over Fury's 'body,' and left the laboratory.

After Loki and the others left, Hawkeye knew some things about the base, so he had Loki follow behind him while he calmly walked in front. No one suspected that this group was actually the culprit of the incident until they encountered Maria Hill, who was in charge of the evacuation on the outer perimeter.
