America: Starting with the Last Liberty
Chapter 40 Mysterious Confidence
Brian came to Duloto Cafe to buy a sandwich as usual, but found that there were several more people in the cafe today.
In addition to Dominic, the target, there were two young white men and a handsome young Asian man.
When Rosen saw Brian, his expression turned strange. He remembered that this guy was Donnie's undercover colleague.
Judging from this, it seems this guy is after Dominic.
Hmm, last time I took Dominic home, I felt like someone was spying on him. Could it have been this kid?
However, Rosen recognized Brian, but Brian did not recognize him.
After all, Rosen wore a mask in The Demon Policeman.
Unless Rosen speaks in a clown-like manner, Brian certainly won't be able to confirm his identity.
Dominic also noticed Brian, remembering that the man bought things from his store almost every day.
To be honest, there's a reason why Duloto Cafe isn't doing well: its food and coffee aren't really competitive.
High emotional intelligence: lack of competitiveness.
Low emotional intelligence: It tastes awful!
Dominic did this on purpose because Duloto Cafe was both his home and a hub for car modification contacts, so he didn't want too many customers there.
The fact that Brian was still able to buy sandwiches for so many days in a row suggests either he has a problem with his taste buds or he has ulterior motives.
Dominic then gave Vince and Jesse a wink, and the three of them surrounded Brian.
"Hey kid, what do you do for a living?"
This unexpected situation left Brian somewhat bewildered. He was soon caught between two men and was locked up by a strongman.
"I'm an apprentice at the nearby auto repair shop. Is there a problem?"
"An apprentice at a repair shop? I know all the repair shops around here. Which one are you from?"
"Old Jerry's Auto Repair Shop!"
Dominic looked at Brian suspiciously, clearly not quite believing him, but in broad daylight, he couldn't possibly do anything to Brian.
"Kid, don't try anything funny!"
Just as the target began to doubt him, Mia returned after making a phone call, and Brian immediately looked at her with an infatuated gaze.
Dominic followed Brian's gaze to Mia, and then it dawned on him.
"So you were after my sister all along!"
That makes sense!
While Mia may not be as exceptional as Blake or Swifa, she is certainly one of the most beautiful women in the surrounding blocks, and many men want to pursue her.
Vince, a member of Dominic's team, has a crush on Mia, but unfortunately, Mia isn't very interested in Vince, her childhood friend.
Sometimes, knowing too much can be detrimental. Love should have a touch of mystery; childhood sweethearts often end up with unrequited love.
Dominic told Vince to let go of Brian, but Vince still punched Brian, teaching this guy who was eyeing his goddess a lesson.
Mia frowned slightly at the behavior of Dominic and the other two.
"Dominic, don't do this kind of thing in a coffee shop! If someone sees you and calls the police, you'll be in trouble!"
Dominic quickly put his arm around Brian's neck and explained to his sister.
"Hey Mia, this is just how guys in Los Angeles make friends these days! Right, kid?"
"Ah, right, right, right!"
What else could Brian say but nod in agreement?
Mia rolled her eyes. She wasn't an idiot; she could tell Brian was being threatened.
"I can't be bothered with you guys! Dominic, I'm taking Rosen to see houses, so don't go too far!"
Rosen waved to Dominic.
See you in a bit!
Brian stared in astonishment at Rosen's departing figure, feeling that the way Rosen walked looked somewhat familiar, but he couldn't quite place the voice.
At that moment, Dominic patted Brian on the back of the head, interrupting his thoughts.
"You can leave now! Don't let me see you loitering around here again!"
"What about my coffee and sandwich?"
Vince, standing to the side, raised an eyebrow and revealed a wicked smile.
"Are you sure you want us to make you coffee and a sandwich?"
These words sent a chill down Brian's spine; who knew what Vince might put in his coffee and sandwiches?
Even without resorting to disgusting actions like spitting, Brian couldn't withstand just having a bunch of wasabi put in!
"No, no!"
With that, Brian hurriedly left the Duloto Cafe.
Seeing the blond youth leave, Vince curiously asked his boss.
"Dominic, do you think there's something wrong with this kid?"
"I was just asking out of caution, but I think he's probably just one of Mia's suitors."
Dominic crossed his arms and looked confident. This guy sometimes had this inexplicable confidence, which occasionally got him into dangerous situations.
Jesse patted Dominic on the shoulder.
"Boss, we need to get to work, otherwise the car modifications won't be on time for the competition at the end of the month!"
"You're right! I wonder if Rosen has finished modifying his car yet. That guy's a master at modifying cars! Let's go, close the coffee shop door, and go to the garage."
Meanwhile, Mia drove Rosen to the vicinity of Caltech, in the northeastern suburbs of Los Angeles.
As one of the world's top science and engineering research universities, Caltech is surrounded by a large area of land with various supporting facilities built around the school.
One of them was the studio apartment that Mia was going to show her.
Although America University's dormitories are generally very comfortable, there are occasional situations where the dorms are full, students get married, or have health issues and need to live off-campus.
Therefore, there are always various types of apartments around the university town to meet the needs of students.
Mia found the landlord and then took Rosen to see the apartment.
"Sir, this is the most upscale apartment around Caltech, perfect for an international student like yourself. Most of the residents here are visitors like you!"
The landlord had clearly misunderstood Rosen's identity, but Rosen's age did indeed match that of an international student from Asia.
Such misunderstandings can save a lot of trouble; landlords of upscale apartments certainly don't want their tenants to be people of dubious origin.
Therefore, Rosen neither denied nor admitted it.
I glanced at the apartment; it was a typical loft-style apartment, with a high ceiling and open space, a duplex structure with two floors.
(That's roughly the feeling)
The apartment uses a lot of transparent glass, which makes the interior very bright.
The first floor has a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and even a storage room.
The second floor features an open-plan bedroom and an indoor balcony with a corridor-style layout.
This design is indeed excellent, and Rosen is very satisfied.
"Sir, how about it? The monthly rent is only $1500, but you have to rent for at least six months, and there's a $2 deposit!"
"Landlady, the rent is not a problem, but I cannot sign a lease agreement."
