America: Starting with the Last Liberty

Chapter 41 A Terrible Assist

The landlord hesitated for a moment.

Why is that?

These high-end apartments are bound to have more formal contracts, since they are mostly occupied by children from wealthy families who place great importance on safety and privacy.

However, Rosen still managed to persuade the landlord.

"Landlady, I have some personal reasons, but I can increase the deposit to $5 and the rent to $2000 per month."

The landlord looked at Rosen suspiciously. Although earning more money would indeed be a good thing for her, some money might cause trouble.

At this moment, Mia whispered something in the landlord's ear, and the landlord immediately looked enlightened and nodded in agreement to Rosen's terms.

Even if you don't sign a rental contract, you still need to have a simple agreement, otherwise it will be difficult to collect the deposit.

The agreement was handwritten by the landlord and contained some simple terms. Then Rosen wrote down his pseudonym, Jack Cole.

After agreeing on a time with the landlord to pay the deposit and advance rent, Rosen and Mia left the apartment.

"Mia, what did you just say to the landlord?"

Rosen was very curious about how Mia had managed to change the landlord's attitude.

"I told her that you're the child of some important person at Tokyo University and that you need to keep your identity a secret, and I never expected her to actually believe me!"

These words made Rosen's expression turn strange. Mia had made up a reason, and the landlord had actually agreed to it, which meant that this situation had likely happened before.

Forget it, Rosen can't control this anyway.

Now that their new home was settled, Rosen and Mia returned to the Duloto Cafe.

"Why is the coffee shop closed? Did Dominic go out?"

"Probably not. Dominic is currently preparing for underground racing events, so he's probably in the garage tinkering with the cars right now."

Mia reopened the coffee shop, which she usually looked after.

At this moment, Rosen noticed some strange reflections again, which meant that Brian was probably spying on them again.

Rosen felt something was off, because although Dominic was known as Boss Dominic, he was actually only a small fry.

This guy's team, including Mia, is only four people, and their business is just robbing trucks in the suburbs.

A single order might only amount to a few hundred thousand or a million yuan. How can such a small business compare to those selling noodles on the street?

Should we specifically assign an undercover agent to conduct the investigation?

Therefore, Rosen felt that there was probably a deeper purpose behind this.

"Where is Dominic's garage? I'd like to talk to him."

"It's right behind the coffee shop, let me take you there."

Mia led Rosen from inside the coffee shop into the garage, where three large men were modifying a Mazda RX-7 FD3S.

This is a classic Japanese sports car with very strong horsepower; it should be the car that Dominic used for the race.

There's also a 1970 Dodge Charger R/T in the garage, a memento left to Dominic by his father.

Although it's a classic car, just like Lawson's Dodge Viper, basically only the body shell is original; the internal parts have probably all been replaced.

"Hey, Lawson, how's your new house?"

"Excellent, I'm quite satisfied! Dominic, I have something I'd like to discuss with you privately. Do you have time?"

Seeing Rosen's serious expression, Dominic immediately put down the wrench in his hand.

"Vince, Jesse, you two carry on. I'll just have a quick chat with Rosen and be right back."

The two arrived at the coffee shop in front, and Mia started pretending to be busy at the front desk, but her eyes were always fixed on Rosen.

Rosen took out 15 cigarettes and handed them to Dominic. The two sat by the window and began to smoke.

The reflection reappeared, confirming that someone was indeed monitoring the Duloto Cafe.

However, this time Rosen didn't look for reflective spots. He knew Brian was very alert and would hide as soon as he made a move.

It seems that Dominic had a strange idea because Rosen didn't say anything, so he made a joke.

"Rosen, if you want to pursue Mia, you don't actually need to ask me."

Mia, who was pretending to be doing something nearby but actually eavesdropping, immediately felt embarrassed upon hearing this.

"Dominic, what are you talking about!"

"Huh? Can't we talk about this? I thought we were close to reaching this stage!"

How could Dominic not know his sister's little scheme? Ever since Mia first met Rosen at the Sangevik bar, she had been constantly asking about Rosen.

When Rosen last asked Mia to find him a house, Mia was particularly proactive, searching almost the entire city of San Gabriel.

Mia has never been this proactive in helping her own brother, so the meaning of this couldn't be clearer.

However, Dominic didn't seem to mind Mia's feelings for Rosen.

Rosen looks like a pretty boy, but he is very reliable and capable of handling things on his own. He is also an excellent driver and can drink a lot.

In the traditional mindset of Dom, that's the epitome of a great tough guy, and he wouldn't object to his sister dating a reliable tough guy.

Rosen is definitely much better than some blond pretty boys!

Brian: ? ? ?

Rosen was actually quite speechless. Mia was indeed a nice girl, with the unique hot figure and enthusiasm of a Latina beauty. Who wouldn't like her?

However, Dominic's exposure of the matter has made their current relationship awkward.

Unfortunately, Mia couldn't accept the terrible help from her brother, so she put down what she was holding and rushed out of the coffee shop.

I'm ignoring you!

Dominic watched his sister's retreating figure with a grin, then turned around and saw Rosen's expression.

"Rosen, what are you doing...?"

"Dominic, I'm not here to joke with you."

These words made Dominic's smile fade, and he became serious.

"Has something happened?"

"Dominic, I hope you can answer my next question honestly."

"Ask away."

"Do you have any connection with the Bonanno family?"

This is the most likely possibility that Rosen could think of.

Both Brian and Donnie are undercover police officers working for Vincent Murphy. Donnie was sent to infiltrate the Mafia through Phil and Dennis, and it's possible that Brian wasn't trying to infiltrate the Bonanno family through Dominic.

Why would a small gang of snatch-and-grab robberies warrant sending an undercover police officer? You should know that every undercover officer is an excellent policeman!

The Los Angeles Police Department has no reason to send excellent young officers to their deaths, unless it's a corrupt cop like Vincent Murphy.

Therefore, unless it's a major case, the police definitely won't send in undercover agents.

Dominic hesitated visibly. Although he and Rosen were friends, this question clearly went beyond the scope of ordinary friendship.

"How did you know?"
