Chapter 40 Gift
Chapter 40 The Gift (Part Two)
The next day, Lynn found Beauva at the address Lauren had given him.
"Who are you looking for? My husband is out. If you need to talk to him, you can wait until he comes back." Bova looked warily at the boy who had suddenly run into her house; she didn't recognize him.
Lynn smiled.
"You're Bova, aren't you?" Lynn said.
Bova looked at Lynn warily, as she had rarely revealed her real name to anyone.
"I'm a friend of your husband," Lynn said.
Bova lowered her head and continued washing the vegetables, her lips slightly pursed. She didn't believe it without reason. "My husband just went out; he'll be back soon."
This person suddenly appeared, claiming to be her husband's friend.
Lynn took a pocket watch out of his pocket.
Looking at the pocket watch in Lynn's hand.
Bova's eyebrows twitched.
She recognized the pocket watch; it was a gift she had bought for her husband on his birthday. He loved it and rarely wore it, keeping it close to his chest and often taking it out to admire and show off to his friends.
"Can I take a look?"
Lynn handed the pocket watch to Beauva.
Bova took it and looked at the pocket watch in her hand. There was a small notch on the dial in the upper right corner.
It's Lauren's watch.
"Are you really Lauren's friend?" Bova asked.
"That's right," Lynn said.
"Is he still alive?" Bova pressed.
Lynn paused, realizing that saying Lauren was dead wasn't a good answer, so he said, "She's alive."
"Then why doesn't he come to see me?" The red-haired woman frowned, looking somewhat worried.
"He's not available right now," Lynn said.
"Why is it inconvenient? Did he find another woman and leave me?" Bova said. "If he wants you to compensate me, then you can take him back."
Bova continued washing the vegetables with her head down.
Lynn couldn't help but chuckle. As expected of a married couple, they guessed her purpose before she even said anything.
"I'll just pretend he's dead. I can live on my own." Beauva said, her head bowed.
This woman's stubbornness was beyond Lynn's imagination.
Lynn felt that no matter what, Beauva should at least have the right to know. In too many stories, a little misunderstanding leads to conflict between lovers and spouses, which eventually turns into tragedy.
Lynn didn't like it.
He stared into Beauvoir's eyes. "Something went wrong with him."
"What's wrong with him!" Bova suddenly looked up, her dark green eyes filled with worry, and the vegetables she was washing were twisted off her wrist.
"If he becomes someone you don't recognize, someone you don't know, someone who might even frighten you at first glance, would you still want to see him?" Lynn said gently.
"I'm willing to see him! Maybe I'll be a little scared at first, but I think I'll get used to it," Beauvoir said. "Just like his bad temper, he always snores when he sleeps, but I'm used to it."
"I also think it would be best for him to come and explain to you in person," Lynn said with a smile.
"He'll come and explain to you later, ma'am."
Lynn emerged from the slums and, after asking passersby for directions, made his way to Falk Street.
Fock Street is one of the older streets in Bangor Port.
In this rapidly developing port city, old means dilapidated.
But Falk Street was surprisingly clean and tidy.
Tall plane trees are planted on both sides of the wide street.
On both sides are three-story houses and separate courtyards separated by small fences.
There is a small nameplate on the stone pillar next to the gate of each house.
1 Falk Street, 2 Falk Street, ..., 13 Falk Street.
Lynn walked to the end of the street.
The main gate was closed, but the lock on the small door to the left of the main gate was open.
The small door was ajar, as if welcoming his arrival.
Lynn pushed open the door and went inside. The ground in the yard was covered with a thick layer of fallen leaves, which hadn't been cleared for a long time.
Even the main entrance on the first floor of the house was ajar.
Lynn went inside.
On the sofa in the living room, a familiar figure wearing a cloak stood with his back to Lynn.
"Teacher," Lynn said.
"Hmm, it seems you're quite satisfied with your life now," Anglie said casually.
"The students have always wanted to find a teacher, but they don't know how," Lynn said.
Anglie did not dwell on the topic.
"Take it." Anglie took out an antique brass ring from his pocket and placed it on the table.
"Teacher, what is this?" Lynn asked.
"You'll see when you see it," Anglie said.
Lynn picked up the ring from the table.
"Infuse your spiritual power into it," Anglie said.
Lynn was now quite adept at this kind of thing. After injecting his mental energy into the ring, Lynn sensed a void space.
This space is not very large, about the size of a classroom.
But this size is relative; at least for Lynn, this area is convenient for storing his personal belongings.
Although the alchemy lab can also store items, the way it's opened makes it less convenient than this ring.
There was a bookshelf inside the ring, with fourteen books on it.
"Illustrated Compendium of Lower Necromancer Creatures", "Illustrated Compendium of Lower Natural Creatures", and "Introduction to Necromancy Mutation".
Many of them are illustrated guides or knowledge related to mutation studies.
But what Lynn remembered most vividly were the four books with black covers and white lettering next to her.
It's like a series of the sleeping spell that Anglie gave himself back then.
The text was written in a language Lynn couldn't understand, but he understood its meaning after just one glance.
Lesser Fireball, Mage Hand, Whip of Thorns, Lesser Illusion
There are four spell skills in total!
In addition, there was a gray wizard's robe and ten egg-sized, deep blue, crystal-like stones that shimmered with a crystalline luster.
Finally, there was a crystal bottle containing a bottle of scalding red liquid.
The crystal bottle was simply placed in its original spot, with no heating device around it, but the red liquid inside was boiling violently, bubbling and gurgling.
Although he didn't know what it was, based on Lynn's limited knowledge of mutations, the bottle of red liquid should be the essence of some kind of magical creature.
This gift is too great; its value to Lynn at this point is immeasurable.
Lynn felt a little flustered as she held it.
Offering something for no reason is either suspicious or theft. As a mere apprentice, I felt uneasy about receiving such a thing.
"Teacher, this gift is too big for me to accept," Lynn said.
"Do you remember what I told you back then?" Anglie said slowly.
Lynn's expression turned serious, and his attitude became solemn.
"Wizards believe in equivalent exchange," Lynn said. "What does my teacher need me to do?"
Anglie smiled, his thin face beaming with a kind smile. "It's a very simple thing."
"Please speak, teacher." Lynn felt that this matter might not be so simple.
"You can easily board the ship that will be docked in port in five months," Anglie said.
Lynn didn't speak; he knew there was more to come, and it couldn't be that simple.
"After boarding, the ship will eventually stop at an island. On the island, you will undergo a selection process that will determine which academy you wizard apprentices will be able to enter."
Anglie's smile widened: "And all you need to do is wipe out all the noble wizard apprentices who boarded the ship at Bangor Port during this selection."
Suddenly, a sentence that Teacher Anglie had once said popped into Lynn's mind: "Fate has already marked the price on every gift."
I'm feeling better today and will resume normal updates later.
