Chapter 90 Batman's Trial

Batman walked toward the window, without saying a word, just as he had arrived.

"Wait a minute, what did you find?" Gordon asked, standing in front of Batman. His eyes behind his glasses were full of determination.

Batman said in a hoarse voice, "This has nothing to do with you."

Having once "studied" at the League of Assassins, Batman knew the terror of those assassins well, and taking Gordon with him was tantamount to murdering the police officer.

Although the two didn't spend much time together, Batman could tell that Gordon was a good cop.

"You don't need to know."

Batman spoke again to reiterate his position.

Gordon pushed up his glasses, his tone firm:

"No, I need to know!"

He said emotionally, "I am a police officer in this city, and I am also the guardian of this city. I have the right to know the truth from you so that I can seek justice for these victims!"

The two looked at each other, neither of them saying a word.

If this were a romance drama, it would be an adventure story of a masked hero and a haughty young police officer, but unfortunately, reality is far more cruel than fiction.

Batman paused for a moment, then said, "Alright, if you really want to know, I can tell you..."

Suddenly, Batman pointed behind Gordon: "What's that!?"

"What?" Gordon turned his head to look, but there was nothing behind him but darkness.

When Gordon turned around again, the figure in black robes had vanished without a trace. Only the open window proved how he had left the room.

"Sour radish and green turd."

Gordon, frustrated, slammed his palms against the wall.

He was tricked by that damn black-clad, tight-fitting pervert!

Gotham's sewers.

"Clang clang."

The imposing Batman looks like a sewer worker, climbing down the iron ladder using both hands and feet.

Batman pulled a flare from his belt to dispel the darkness as he stepped into the stench-filled underground passage.

His cloak was soaked with sewage, as were his trousers.

Ignoring the stench of the sewers, Batman walked along, lost in thought.

Since ancient times, cities have always been places where superstitions converge.

After all, the city's inhabitants come from all over the world. People leave behind the small villages where they have lived for generations and move into a huge labyrinth of steel and glass, where shadows and cold light intertwine.

They held fast to the faith they brought from their homeland, while others carried various prejudices.

For example, Asians draw talismans to bring bad luck, while Black men use animal carcasses to perform strange and evil African rituals.

Silently walking to a corner where all directions led, Batman looked at the walls made of granite.

The Assassins' Guild came from the sewers.

But then a popular nursery rhyme from Gotham came to Batman's mind.

"The court of owls is watching; be on guard day and night."

"Limestone and mud walls, granite walls, guard posts set up at the head of the bed and in front of the stove."

"This mentions clues about the Court of Owls."

Batman narrowed his eyes, somewhat suspecting that the Court of Owls was involved with the League of Assassins.

If that's really the case, then it's undoubtedly a terrible situation.

This means he needs to deal with two behemoths, do everything in his power to drive them out of Gotham, and free Gotham from their clutches.

I raised my fingers and tapped on every part of these granite walls.

"Knock knock~"

I don't know if it was good luck or...

The hollow sound coming from the wall made Batman clench his fist.

This wall is empty; perhaps something is hidden inside.

"Bang!"

Batman swung his fist and slammed it into the granite.

As bricks and stones flew, a small hole appeared in the wall. Batman punched again to widen the hole until he could pass through it.

"Click".

He stepped into the cave entrance, his boots making a sound as they trod on the gravel.

The luminaire flickered a few times and then lost its luster.

Batman simply tossed aside his flare and silently walked deeper into the cave.

For some reason, he preferred to hide in the darkness rather than in the light.

After passing through narrow caves and dark corridors, a vast underground labyrinth suddenly appeared before Batman's eyes.

"Sizzle".

A huge LCD screen stands overhead.

As the snowflakes flickered, a huge golden conference room appeared on the screen.

Batman looked up at the scene on the screen, his lips twitching downwards, revealing his typical expression: suspicion.

All that can be seen on the screen.

A man wearing a pure white mask was sitting in the main seat.

He sat there upright, like a living emperor.

Lei Xiaogu?

No, it can't be him. Batman once underwent trials in the League of Assassins.

They also knew Lei Xiaogu's temperament. As the leader of the Assassin Alliance, his existence gave people the feeling of a cold and venomous snake, lurking in the shadows waiting for the right moment to deliver a fatal blow.

But the guy sitting in that golden chair didn't have that cold, sinister aura. He calmly gripped the armrest with one hand, his legs slightly apart, and he leaned back lazily in the chair, giving off an air of unrestrained domineering confidence.

Batman looked up at the young man and saw him slowly stand up, his tall figure giving off a terrifying sense of oppression.

This man's demeanor reminded Bruce of an ink painting he had seen on the wall of Ms. Shiva's training ground during his travels in the East. It depicted the legendary Xiang Yu, the overlord who single-handedly defeated a thousand men.

Behind the mysterious man stood a row of members of the Assassin's Guild.

They were dressed neatly and fully armed, with only a pair of cold, sharp eyes visible beneath their black masks, staring intently at the screen, seemingly ready for a massacre at any moment.

A brainstorm was raging in Batman's head.

He began to speculate about the relationship between this person and the League of Assassins, and what kind of conspiracy they were plotting.

Just as Batman was pondering, the man slowly walked in front of the camera, his hands behind his back, looking down at Batman like a high and mighty god.

He heard the other person's deep voice coming from the screen.

"I want to play a game with you, a fun game."

"This is a pre-recorded video, and I'll be waiting for you at the end of the road."

He extended his slender, pale fingers and pointed at the assassins behind him.

"These people are the elite of the Assassin's Guild. They will infiltrate this maze and hunt you down in ten seconds."

"If you manage to escape from them, I won't mind telling you the truth about Gotham City."

Bruce felt a slight tremor in his heart as he listened to the mysterious man's words.

The truth about Gotham City?

Looking again at the maze in the distance, even Batman, who was usually calm and collected, felt a surge of anger.

What does this guy think he is? A clown to be played with?

"Alright, let the game begin."

The mysterious man snapped his fingers lightly.

The screen went out in the next instant, the light disappeared, and darkness once again enveloped the underground labyrinth.

Then came the sounds of hurried footsteps and the clanging of armor coming from all directions.

Batman knew he had to run.
