Chapter 9 with Lex

The sun sets behind the horizon, and the moonlight bathes the earth.

Gino and Clark's conversation ended unhappily.

Clark insisted that with great power comes great responsibility, and that superpowered individuals should restrain their abilities.

Gino, on the other hand, holds the opposite view. He will not use his power to harm innocent civilians, but he will also ruthlessly eliminate any enemies who threaten him.

At this moment, outside the town of Smallville, on the road near Luther Manor, a sports car made a turn and drove into the manor.

The old butler had been waiting for quite some time.

Gino tossed the sports car keys to the butler to park the car and stepped into the castle.

The spacious living room was adorned with ornate chandeliers. Lex sat in a chair, swirling his wine glass. He raised his hand, took a sip of red wine, and glanced smugly at Gino: "Château Lafite Rothschild, authentic flavor."

"It's a pity you're not an adult yet, you can't drink."

Gino sat in his seat with a steaming steak on his plate, the surface of which was coated with rosemary juice, giving it an enticing aroma.

"Not being able to drink red wine doesn't make me angry, Lex. I don't like that stuff at all." Gino shook his head, took a knife and fork, cut a piece of steak, and put it in his mouth to chew and taste.

"Oh, right, there's something I need to tell you: Jerome has woken up."

Lex raised an eyebrow, put down his wine glass, and said, "I was just about to tell you about this."

"Just this morning, Genome suddenly woke up in the VIP ward of the Metropolitan Hospital and then disappeared instantly. After that, the entire hospital lost power for half a minute."

"Disappeared suddenly?" Gino frowned. "You mean he gained superpowers like me?"

Lex nodded, resting his chin on his hands. "I'm afraid so."

"The meteor shower many years ago created too many unknowns and accidents, as well as your terrifying abilities."

"That's why we came back here, brother." Gino glanced at Lex's bald head: "If we can solve the mystery of the meteorite, maybe we can get your lost hair back."

Hearing Gino's sarcasm, Lex's face darkened: "We said we weren't allowed to talk about my hair."

"It's my fault, it's my fault." Gino smiled and raised his hands in surrender. When his older brother got angry, he would ignore him for days on end, just like a little girl.

Well, actually, from a certain perspective, Lex is a dark, cruel, and arrogant boy.

"But Genomi actually gained superpowers." Genomi stroked his chin and looked at Lex, saying, "Lex, be careful lately. I received a threat from Genomi at school this afternoon."

"A threat?" Lex's expression darkened; he guessed what Genomi was thinking. "Is it because of what happened thirteen years ago? He thinks we stood by and watched him die."

"That's right." Gino nodded, feeling helpless about Genomi's neurotic brain circuits.

"Young Master, perhaps I shouldn't have disturbed your meal," the old butler Jarvis said politely, one hand behind his back, dressed in a tailcoat. "However, a group of police officers have arrived outside the manor and intend to question the young master about the situation."

Upon hearing the butler's report, Lexton immediately stood up abruptly.

"Inquire about the situation?"

He looked at Gino: "What happened? Your abilities were exposed?"

At this moment, Lex began to consider whether he should hire some assassins to silence all those in the know to ensure Gino's safety.

Gino shook his head and said:

No, not at all.

"I broke the bully's arm as fast as I could, and nobody noticed. The police were completely baffled."

Hearing Gino's words, Lex regained his composure. As a family member, he knew Gino's strength and that the world was not yet ready to welcome superhumans.

Lex turned to the old butler and said, "Butler, go tell those police officers that we don't have time to cooperate with their investigation."

As the eldest son of the powerful Luther family, Lex is not afraid of the consequences of not cooperating with the police.

The old butler nodded and left. After a while, he returned and reported, "As you wish, the police have left."

In free America, capitalists wield considerable power, and the small-town police dare not offend the local taxpayer, the Luther Group.

And this is the power of capital.

After being rebuffed at Luther Manor, the police slunk away, their patrol cars turning left and right before finally arriving at Kent Farm, which was also Clark's home.

In contrast to their submissive demeanor at the manor, the two local police officers went directly to Jonathan's doorstep, rudely knocking on the wooden door: "Mr. Jonathan Kent! We are the town police, and we need your son's cooperation in investigating some matters."

The family, who were eating around the wooden table inside the house, exchanged glances. Martha looked at Clark with some worry, subconsciously feeling that her son had caused some kind of trouble.

Jonathan gestured for his wife to calm down, then glanced at the somewhat flustered Clark. He stood up, opened the door, and used his body to block the police officers: "Officers, I'm Jonathan Kent. What did Clark do?"

The lead officer pulled out a small notebook and said, "It's about something that happened at Smallville High School. The football captain, who's in the same year as your son, broke his arm inexplicably during a fight."

"His arm was shattered, and he'll never play rugby again."

"According to witnesses, the other party had a conflict with the new transfer student, Gino Luther."

"And your son tried to stop the conflict and witnessed the whole thing."

The police officer, expressionless, attempted to exert pressure, saying, "We want to know what happened."

Listening to the officer's account and recalling his own child's terrifying abilities, Jonathan's face darkened horribly. He mistakenly believed that Clark had broken Whitney's arm, crippling her.

After all, only his own son possessed such terrifying abilities.

But years of education convinced Jonathan that Clark was not the kind of person who would do such a thing.

For a moment, Jonathan felt conflicted.

"Are you looking for me?"

At that moment, Clark, who had heard the commotion, came to Jonathan's side and looked at the officer.

The two officers glanced at Clark and said:

"That's right, Clark, do you know how Whitney's injuries happened?"

Clark paused for a moment, then met the gazes of the two officers.

With his father Jonathan watching him suspiciously, Clark was heartbroken. He never expected his father to suspect that he was the one who did it.

Then I thought back to my conversation with Gino not long ago.

Clark was deeply shaken by the other person's words: "A wolf mistakenly believes that it will be accepted by the pack if it disguises itself as a hunting dog, but a wolf is still a wolf."

After a moment of silence, Clark made up his mind. He raised his head and stared at the two officers: "I'm sorry, I didn't know what happened at the time. Whitney's arm breaking inexplicably might be some kind of paranormal event."
