Chapter 72 Who is the prey?

That's right.

Inside the hall, Amanda stared at Lex with her brown eyes and said, "Thanks to the President's kindness, I have recently formed a team called the National Special Incident Response Team."

"This group is responsible for investigating all unusual events occurring throughout the United States."

"And I noticed that hundreds of people die mysteriously in Smallville every year."

"I'm very curious." Amanda clasped her hands together, adopting a commanding posture, and leaned slightly forward to exert pressure. "So you've come to visit the Luther family, since as the leading enterprise in the area, perhaps you know something inside?"

Lex didn't answer Amanda; instead, he looked at Gino.

The two locked eyes, clearly having made up their minds.

"That's right, Ms. Amanda," Lex said with a smile. "We did notice the unusual activity in the town and set up a technology lab in our factory."

"And they have discovered quite a few interesting items."

Hearing Lex's confession, Amanda suddenly opened her small eyes, which gleamed with a sharp light. She licked her lips as if she were looking at a sumptuous lunch.

She hadn't expected the plan to go so smoothly.

Anything that the Luther family would invest in research must be extraordinary; she could almost see more power and prestige beckoning to her.

"Well then," Amanda said patiently, her eyes filled with greed, "can you take me there? I want to have a look around."

"If it's worthwhile," Amanda began to paint a rosy picture for Lex: "I'll pass this on to the White House and get them to fund your experiment."

Lex's face lit up with elation, his expression excited. "Really? Ms. Amanda, my experiments are so expensive. And my father won't help me."

"Of course, I keep my word."

Amanda's smile deepened. She hadn't expected Lex to be so easily fooled, which filled the woman with contempt. The Luther family? Nothing special.

The woman had already planned her next move: find a few pretexts to announce that Luther's factory was conducting illegal experiments, then seize the factory, and finally, all of Lex's research results would belong to her.

"Then what are we waiting for?"

Lex was the first to stand up, seemingly eager to take Amanda to attract investment.

Amanda stood up with a smile, not forgetting to grab her bag from the sofa.

The woman glanced at Gino, who remained seated motionless, and asked curiously, "Isn't this child with you?"

"Ah, my brother is deaf, don't worry about him." Lex said enthusiastically, "Let's go, Ms. Amanda, I can't wait to show you the results."

The woman nodded, and as she left, she couldn't help but glance back at Lex's deaf brother.

However, the sofa was empty.

The basement level of the Luther Chemical Plant.

The elevator doors opened, revealing a huge, magnificent metal door to the group.

Amanda's two bodyguards in suits looked wary, their right hands resting on their gun holsters, ready for any possible situation.

"As expected, the Luther Group knows the town's secret." Amanda sneered inwardly as she watched Lex enter the computer password.

"drop!"

The password was entered successfully, and the previously closed metal door slowly rose.

Countless neatly arranged experimental cans were placed in the huge base.

Bizarre-shaped creatures are soaking in the jar.

"My God, what is that thing?!" The two bodyguards stared in shock at a huge iron cage in the center of the experimental base.

There was a huge bat monster being imprisoned inside.

Upon noticing the intruders, the bat monster opened its mouth full of fangs and hissed at the group.

"Huff huff"

Looking at this extraordinary and mysterious creature, Amanda felt her breathing quicken and her whole being become extremely excited.

No wonder, no wonder so many strange things have happened in this town. It seems that all the secrets are in this laboratory.

"What, what is that thing?"

Suppressing her excitement, Amanda asked Lex.

Lex explained, "It's a vampire that absorbs human fat."

"We've been studying her."

Amanda looked up at the bat monster, her face filled with fascination.

"Ms. Amanda," Lex's voice interrupted her thoughts.

"The investment you mentioned?"

"Oh, an investment." Amanda smiled indifferently, glancing at her bodyguards on either side of Lex, two burly men flanking him.

"Lex Luthor!" Amanda's face turned cold, her smile vanished, and she said in a serious tone, "The Luthor Corporation has been illegally researching unknown creatures, endangering the safety of the town's residents. I am here to inform you that your corporation has been shut down."

Amanda's true colors were revealed; she no longer wanted to wait.

Seal off the lab, report the news to your superiors, and you'll be rewarded.

"How could you do this?!" Lex exclaimed incredulously. "You promised to invest in me."

"Heh." Amanda interrupted Lex with a cold laugh: "Mr. Lex, I believe this lesson will teach you to never believe what politicians say."

Amanda confidently declared, "You are nothing but my prey!"

"You!" Lex wanted to say something more.

"Alright, stop playing around, Lex. I have an exam next Monday."

A lazy voice came from behind Amanda.

"What!?"

The two bodyguards looked like they'd seen a ghost.

The three of them turned around.

In the corner, the familiar blond youth leaned against the cold wall, his eyes staring at the three of them with a bored expression.

Beside him crouched a figure resembling a zombie, its eyes wide as it tried to contort itself into a look of rage.

"You, you're not mute?" a bodyguard shouted out the question Amanda wanted to ask.

"That was just a mean joke by Lex."

"That's enough, what do you want to do?"

Amanda wasn't stupid. How could a black, overweight woman who had been navigating the political arena for years not realize that she had fallen into Lex's trap?

She took a step forward, staring menacingly at Gino.

"What do you want to do?" Gino smiled and walked towards the three of them, his tone light and cheerful. "From the moment you first stepped into this town, you've been in the Luther family's sights."

Gino said regretfully, "Lex is going to see what you'll do."

"But you haven't disappointed us either, you're ambitious and eager to uncover the secrets of this town."

"They even wanted to extract information from Lex."

As Gino and Amanda drew closer, the woman clenched her fists, her face turning icy.

"Back off!"

The two bodyguards realized something was wrong, so they raised their pistols and pointed the dark muzzles at Gino's head.

But the boy seemed to ignore him and continued walking towards them.

"Fire!"

Without hesitation, the bodyguard pulled the trigger.

"Bang!"

The bullet flew out of the barrel, its tail adorned with flames that propelled the airflow as it whistled and spun towards Gino.

Time seemed to slow down at that moment.

Gino slowly raised his palm.

"Bang!"

The sturdy copper bullet struck the white palm as if it had hit steel. The originally round bullet was squeezed and deformed under the force and resistance.

"Da da~"

The deflated bullet fell and smashed onto the iron plate at everyone's feet.

Gino stared at the three dumbfounded men, a smile playing on his lips: "Now, who is the prey?"
