Chapter 76 It was so good!
Chapter 76 It was so good!
"It turns out my judgment was pretty good. Regardless of your magical aptitude, your high mental strength is enough to make you competent for many basic tasks." Nick praised himself without revealing any arrogance.
"Yes, Nick has a good eye," Thor thought to himself. "He was the one who immediately recognized that my true strength was light element perception, and it wasn't just something I filled in randomly."
"So now that we've reached a consensus, we can cooperate properly, right?" Nick spread his hands, facing Thor.
Thor quickly replied, "I will do my best to cooperate with my senior."
Nick nodded slightly, still expressionless, as if he were born without facial expressions.
"We've taken up a little time, let's start the experiment right away. We'll explain as we go, number one, come in!" Nick put on his earmuffs, raised his voice slightly, and called out towards the door.
Thor turned around and saw the laboratory door being pushed open, and a blonde, blue-eyed, but expressionless female second-level apprentice walked in.
She was one of the women Saul had seen in Rum's room before; he didn't know when she had been waiting outside the door.
The female apprentice walked in, stood opposite the control panel, and faced Nick.
Neither of them had any expression, or rather, no emotion.
Thor's eyes darted between the two, wondering if they had any connection.
"Don't look at me." Nick gestured to the woman, but continued talking to Thor. "My situation is different from hers and theirs."
Nick made the beautiful, expressionless female apprentice sit in the metal high-backed chair opposite him.
When the slender female apprentice sat on the metal chair, the chair immediately began to deform.
The tall chair back slumped down, with two iron rings extending from it to lock the female apprentice's neck and waist.
The two armrests taper inwards, perfectly supporting the female apprentice's drooping forearms and locking her elbows and wrists.
The chair legs also extend out with metal rings to fasten the ankles and knees.
It looks like they're about to inflict punishment.
Nick had Saul follow him and went up to teach him how to use the metal chair.
Behind and under the chair, there were ropes hanging down like electrical wires, with very thin tips, like embroidery needles.
After the female apprentice sat down, Nick went over and stuck sharp points into her cheeks, wrists, ankles, and other places.
The ropes looked heavy, with their tips only millimeters deep into the skin, but when Nixon touched them, the ropes didn't fall due to gravity; instead, they seemed to consciously remain in place.
While memorizing the operating techniques, Thor also pondered when to deal with the vengeful spirit with Nico.
The work started so suddenly that he didn't even have time to say anything.
The female apprentice remained expressionless and unresponsive throughout.
Thor felt that even if Nick did something even more terrible at this moment, the female apprentice would not put up any resistance.
After finishing their work, the two retreated behind the control panel.
Nick took out a disc made of the same material as the metal chair.
Thor craned his neck and peered closer.
The disk is divided into four regions by a cross, and each region is further divided into smaller squares of different shapes and numbers.
"This is called an induction chair, and this is the corresponding control panel," Nick began to explain. "The principle behind the control panel is rather complex and not publicly known, so you don't need to worry about it. You just need to remember where each sensor cable is attached."
To make sure Saul remembered the previous steps, Nick took out paper and pen and had Saul sit down next to him.
"I usually record the emotional changes of the test subjects to understand their response to the stimulation of the electric chair. In a moment, you will use your method to record the performance of the test subjects."
Nick gently tossed the disc in his hand up and put it down again. Suddenly, a blue electric light flashed from the inside of the entire control panel, across the whole panel, and then disappeared into silence.
Thor unconsciously tucked the tips of his left fingers into his sleeve.
Electricity, the nemesis of plastic bones.
"Actually, I'm quite curious why the mentor sent you here to record the test subjects' reactions. Have you awakened some strange talent?"
Nick said he was curious, but his eyes didn't even blink, as if it were just a polite remark.
Before Thor could give any feedback, Nick pressed the control panel. "Start."
As Nick pressed the button, different positions on the control panel began to flash with light.
Correspondingly, currents traveled along the ropes of the electric chair to the female apprentice's body, and a faint smell of burning immediately emanated from her.
The female apprentice immediately frowned, revealing a pained expression. She tried to arch her back, but was unable to move due to the restraint of several iron rings.
Thor first looked around with his naked eye but didn't find anything unusual.
It was as if the female apprentice had simply been electrocuted.
He then entered a semi-immersive meditative state.
When Thor's gaze fell on the female apprentice again, he was astonished to find that a semi-transparent, grayish-white male face had appeared on her face!
The man narrowed his eyes and smiled, looking quite pleased with himself.
This face is very similar to the face formed by the runes on the female apprentice's back.
"I sense that Number One is currently in a state of pleasure. Have you noticed anything?" Nick asked, ignoring the apprentice's pained expression and focusing on the control panel.
Thor stared at the transparent male face on the female apprentice's face.
"That felt great!"
Nick paused, then turned to Thor. "Your wording is a bit strange. Could you describe it in more detail?"
"It's just so comfortable and relaxing."
Upon hearing this, Nick looked down at the control panel in his hands and pondered.
A moment later, he suddenly threw the control panel onto the table, bent over, and began to write and draw.
The female apprentice on the electric chair was in so much pain that her facial expression began to contort, and a trickle of saliva dripped from the corner of her mouth.
The man on her face started rolling his eyes.
"Nick, could you turn off the electric chair for a bit?"
Nick then came to his senses and noticed the female apprentice's pain, but instead of turning off the control panel, he changed the stimulation method.
Then, another silvery arc of electricity danced on the rope.
The pain on the female apprentice's face vanished in an instant. Her body went limp, and she leaned back in her chair, letting out a soft breath.
But in Thor's eyes, the translucent man's face gradually began to show signs of pain.
His pain was not like being electrocuted, but more like suffocation.
He kept opening his mouth wide, trying to breathe, but forgot that he didn't need to breathe anymore.
Thor stared at the two different faces at the same time, and felt that the man on the female apprentice's body was very likely also a kind of spirit.
A spirit that possessed the female apprentice.
"What I'm feeling this time is pain and exhaustion. What about you?" After observing for a while, Nick, the senior student next to me, asked again.
"Suffocating," Saul said truthfully, "like a fish thrown ashore."
Nick seemed to be deep in thought. This time, he didn't rush to take notes, but instead turned off the control panel and the electric chair.
"From your perspective, it is indeed clearer than my approach of simply identifying emotions," Nick continued taking notes.
Thor turned his head to look and found a bunch of symbols he couldn't understand.
Watching Nick intently scribbling and drawing, Thor remarked, "Nick's ability to sense emotions is actually more accurate than mine. The test subject's behavior, combined with my subjective interpretation, can easily lead to errors in information transmission."
Nick finished writing the last stroke, turned to look at Saul, and said, "You don't seem like a twelve-year-old."
