Chapter 75 First, let's clear up the misunderstanding.

The West Tower dormitory, a safe zone for apprentices, was also a dangerous area for him, a former servant. Thor often felt something was amiss when walking through the dormitory area at night.

But the floor where the mentor was located didn't have that eerie and dangerous feeling.

Not at all.

Is it that formal wizards have greatly improved their ability to control power, or that all dangers have reached a point where they are concealed without being revealed?

Thor reached the end of the corridor and glanced up the ramp.

Mentor Kaz lives on the seventeenth floor.

He rarely appears in the lab or morgue. Does he, like Professor Rum, treat the dormitory as a real laboratory?

As for the eighteenth floor and above, it's all the tower owner's private space.

It is said that the Lord of Gorsata is a second-tier wizard, but an extremely powerful second-tier wizard who is incredibly close to being a third-tier wizard.

As for how strong they were exactly, no one has described it; all that is known is that the five mentors completely obeyed the tower master's orders.

A second-tier wizard is a level that Thor can never reach at the moment.

Remembering the vengeful spirit on his body, Thor temporarily put aside his yearning to become a formal wizard and quickened his pace to leave this floor.

When Saul arrived at the second laboratory on the fourteenth floor, he found the door open.

Thor walked to the door and peeked inside.

This lab is much smaller than Professor Katz's lab, and it doesn't have rows of cabinets for storing materials, but it has many more workbenches.

The most striking feature in the room was a high-backed metal chair with double armrests. Several thumb-thick ropes hung from the bottom of the chair.

There was also a control panel directly opposite the chair, and a man was standing behind the panel.

A man with brown curly hair and a name tag for a second-level apprentice pinned to his chest was expressionlessly burning something in a brazier.

Wisps of smoke rose from the brazier, sometimes dispersing, sometimes gathering, and finally disappearing from the roof.

Fearing that the other party was conducting an experiment, Thor did not make a sound to disturb them.

If you startle the other party, a slight tremor in your hand could ruin everything, and they might then try to extort money from you.

Saul stood at the door, intending to wait for the other party to notice him before going in.

No sooner had Thor stopped than he heard someone inside say, "Why don't you come in? The door was left open for you."

"Senior Nick?" Thor asked tentatively.

Nick looked up, wisps of smoke curling around his face. "You remember me?"

"..." Thor didn't remember him at all; it was a name he had just heard from his mentor, Rum.

"Oh, well, it seems you've already forgotten." Nick lowered his head again, showing no sign of anger.

It's like it's normal for someone not to remember you.

"Come in, close the door, and I'll explain the precautions here."

Saul did as he was told and stood next to Nick.

Nick looked to be about eighteen or nineteen years old, but his calm demeanor made him look more like a thirty-year-old man than Byron.

"I heard you work in the morgue?"

"Yes, senior."

Nick nodded. "Working in the morgue often involves dealing with the dead, but here we deal with the living."

Nick turned to look at Thor. "I'm good at observing emotions, and the witchcraft I'm currently learning is mostly related to emotions."

Nick, the senior student, actually revealed his special talent right from the start?

Thor's mind raced; this was likely a crucial element that would be used in the experiment later, which was why Nick had explained it beforehand.

To stir up emotions?

That doesn't sound very impressive.

Does it have any offensive capabilities? Or is it something that will make you laugh and cry?

and many more!

Thor suddenly looked up at Nick.

He remembered who Nick was!

He wrote about all sorts of bizarre ways he died in his diary, one of which was dying of laughter.

Nick is the senior who sat next to Sid when he was testing Saul and his batch of new recruits!

So when he laughed so hard, it was actually Nick who made the move?

Is the opponent also one of West Germany's killer moves?

Nick was still giving his presentation with a blank expression, unaware that Saul was already reaching into his pocket.

"...Our experiments here mainly focus on observing the emotions of spirits, and my mentor appointed me to lead this part. My mentor said you are good at directly observing spirits, so he asked you to come and cooperate with the experiment... Your emotions are fluctuating a lot, is there a problem?"

Nick turned off the fire, and the smoke gradually dissipated until nothing was left in the brazier.

"Are you the senior who tested us back then?" Thor secretly put his left hand in front of him, while his right hand held a small bottle in his pocket.

"Yes." Nick put away the brazier, then pulled out two earmuffs from under the control panel, hanging one around his neck and handing the other to Saul.

"Sid and I are usually work partners, so when he took on the task of testing new recruits, I went with him."

Saul took the earmuff with his left hand but didn't put it on.

Was Nick a friend of West Germany?

He pressed his right thumb against the body of the small bottle.

"Professor Rum has no intention of pursuing the matter in West Germany." Saul first brought up Rum, hoping that Nick was a rational person and would not take action in the laboratory.

But Nick Bitsoir was even more rational in his thinking.

He put down the experimental equipment he was organizing and turned his head.

"You're still very nervous... Well, in order to prevent West Germany from becoming an obstacle to our future work, I think I need to explain what happened before to you."

Nick's expression remained indifferent, revealing no indication of whether he was saddened by Sid's death.

"Don't be hostile towards me. In a sense, I even saved your life."

Saul still clutched his earmuffs, staring up at Nick.

"On the day of the test, West Germany was acting strangely. He usually had a bad temper and a foul mouth, but it still surprised me that he suddenly killed a new apprentice."

Nick recounted the story calmly.

"You should know that one of the rules here is that everything in the Wizard Tower belongs to the Tower Owner. Therefore, causing the Tower Owner any loss without cause may result in punishment."

"So I was very surprised at the time. If West Germany really disliked that chubby kid, they could have just made him a slave or killed him in secret. Why did they suddenly take action in public?"

"Later, oh, much later, after I heard that you had killed West Germany, it finally dawned on me. West Germany probably killed the fat guy as an excuse to kill you later. Anyway, you were just a reserve apprentice at the time, so I didn't care whether you lived or died."

"And Sid secretly encouraged me to kill you while you were unconscious, explaining that we wouldn't be punished for our actions this time." Nick lowered his eyes, "because someone who didn't pass the test or get demoted to a servant isn't considered part of the Wizard Tower's property—I didn't realize you were a servant back then, and I almost let him persuade me."

"West Germany is always good at exploiting loopholes in the rules and people's hearts. Fortunately, I'm relatively rational." Nick nodded, seemingly quite proud of himself.

Saul "laughed to death" in his diary at the time, and it really was because of Nick!

Thor was furious.

Even though Sid is dead, Saul is still furious when he realizes how many terrible things Sid has done to him, and he wishes he could kill him all over again!

During the test, because the diary confirmed Thor's judgment, Thor did not follow the normal testing order of others. Instead, he avoided the lowest talent, magic, and tested the other two first. After receiving feedback that he had high mental talent, he fainted.

Perhaps out of a desire to preserve talent, or perhaps because he feared that killing an apprentice whose talent was yet to be fully realized might lead to repercussions, Nick ultimately spared Thor.

Nick judged Saul to have passed, and Sid's plan failed. He could only watch as Saul became an apprentice and a more valuable asset to the Tower Master.

If he were to kill Thor again, he would need to be more discreet, and the cost would be even greater.

Saul paused for a moment, then followed Nick's example and hung the earmuffs around his neck.

"Thank you, senior. If it weren't for you, I might not have passed the test and would have either died or turned back into a servant to be bullied."

If Thor were to return to the servants' quarters, neither the boys he had intimidated nor the butlers he had mocked would let him off the hook.

In the end, it's all a dead end.

Nick stared down at the control panel, stroking his stubble with his free hand. "Actually, the apprentice entrance test doesn't require all three talents to be met. As long as you're deemed to have potential, you can pass the test, so you don't need to worry too much about your abilities. But remember one thing! I'm the one who decided you had potential, which is why I let you live."

Saul nodded vigorously; he would remember.

It seems that changing the word count of a paragraph will delete the paragraph comments. I changed a bug in chapter 11.
