Rum stretched out his hands toward the small window and chanted a spell.
The black window slammed shut with a bang, instantly darkening the room several degrees.
Immediately afterwards, the window extended outwards, expanding directly to cover the entire exterior wall of the "room".
Thor stared at the changes before him, momentarily forgetting to breathe.
Like opening a surprise gift box, the black window slowly tilted outwards.
Sunlight streamed into the room through the cracks, and as the cracks widened, it gradually poured in until it filled the entire room.
Thor found the sunlight a bit dazzling, but he couldn't bear to blink.
Mentor Rum said to him, "Let's go take a look."
Thor shuffled along, tentatively approaching the window, and the scenery outside gradually came into view.
In the far distance, there was a clear blue sky with drifting clouds. The sun was directly overhead, its halo making it difficult for Thor to look at it for long.
Below the sky, black mountain peaks stretched out in undulating waves. Dense forests filled the gaps between the mountains, extending into the nearby plains.
Scattered villages and mountain paths appeared in the forest. Closer up, the plains were flat and unobstructed, with no people or livestock in sight.
The world was so peaceful, it was like a painting.
"Hello, new world," Thor greeted the world in his mind.
Suddenly, a clear chirp broke the tranquility.
A dark shadow streaked across the sky and flew into the distance.
Thor looked up and saw a huge bird flying at great speed, breaking through the wind and waves and entering the clouds.
There seemed to be a person standing on that bird.
This change brought Thor back to his senses, making him realize once again that what lay before him was not a peaceful mountain village, but an unusual world with wizards and advanced powers.
"Isn't it beautiful? Take a closer look." came the suggestion from Professor Rum behind us.
Thor's gaze slowly moved downwards, the deep green plains gradually fading and turning brownish-yellow, then scorched yellow, and finally intertwining with pitch black.
Looking down again, dozens of meters away, there was a swamp of bubbling mud.
Occasionally, bones and weeds would be churned up by the bubbles, only to sink into the mud after a brief struggle.
Several mangled corpses floated on it.
Some floated face up, some back up, and some feet up, slowly drifting in the churning mud.
Suddenly, a black, mud-covered tentacle silently emerged, grabbed a corpse, and slowly pulled it downwards.
The corpse naturally did not struggle and could only slowly sink into the mud.
As Thor watched the tentacles disappear, he vaguely felt something cold, like a reptile, brush against his skin.
Where exactly is the Gorsa Wizard Tower located? Why is there a swamp of corpses and monsters at the foot of the tower?
Will the apprentices who learn wizarding knowledge here eventually disappear into the mud or rise with the wind?
The beauty and tranquility vanished, and doubt and fear crept into Thor's heart.
Then Rum's voice came from behind.
"Is it scary? Look at your feet again."
Upon hearing this, Thor lowered his head, his pupils shrinking sharply.
He found himself standing at the very edge of the black window without even realizing it.
Even most of his right foot was dangling in the air!
The next second, he would fall in and become one of the floating corpses in the mud.
Thor snapped out of his daze, abruptly pulled back his right foot, and retreated repeatedly until he reached the innermost part of the room, where his back slammed against the wall with a thud.
Rum chuckled twice when he saw Thor's panicked expression.
He leaned forward, and a pool of flesh dripped onto Thor's feet, feeling warm to the touch.
He stretched out his palm and covered Thor's eyes.
"Both beauty and fear lure you into the abyss, and the locator is like a black window, supporting your spirit when you are lost. But you must be careful, the locator can only delay your collapse; ultimately, you must clear your mind yourself to come back to your senses."
When Rum lowered his hand again, the room had returned to normal. The exterior window had reverted to a small, one-meter-square window, its black glass opening inwards, letting in a beam of light…
Thor was just panicked.
He was not afraid of the distant mountains and birds outside, nor was he afraid of the nearby mud and bones.
What Saul fears is that he still doesn't understand how he managed to walk out the window step by step.
In my memory, he only leaned towards the window.
However, this experience, combined with the previous modifications, also gave Thor a deeper understanding of the positioning device.
The locator helps wizards recognize their own existence so they don't get lost between the known and the unknown.
But its capabilities are ultimately limited. If one blindly relies on the locator without controlling one's own desires, one day one will break free of the locator's protection and be smashed into a pile of minced meat, or turn into something else entirely.
At the same time, location tracking information is highly private. If you are familiar with someone else's location tracking information, you could potentially gain access to their weaknesses. Therefore, it is taboo to casually inquire about location tracking information.
Saul was engrossed in his self-reflection when Rum said quietly, "I personally explained half of the knowledge to you, and you're not my apprentice. Hmm, I'll give you 10 credits."
Teacher, you're robbing me!
Thor's mouth dropped open.
"Or how about I work for ten days?"
Thor closed his mouth again.
So that's where he was waiting.
He recalled the conversation between Kaz and Rum when Kaz brought him here, during which Kaz was talking about having him work for Rum.
Since that was the case, Thor did not refuse.
There's just one premise that needs to be made clear.
"Professor Rum, I've only been studying for three months, and I don't know what I can do."
Rum glared at him. "Now you remember you're a newbie? Look at what you've done! Is this what a newbie should be doing?"
His belly bulged out like a toad.
"Go to the second laboratory on the fourteenth floor and find Nick. Oh, and while you're at it, have him get rid of the vengeful spirit on you."
This is important!
Thor immediately stood up straight and solemnly said, "Thank you, Instructor Rum. I'll be right there!"
Without further hesitation, he bowed to his mentor Rum and walked out.
As his hand rested on the curtain, Rum's voice came from behind him again.
"Before you advance to the second-level apprentice level, you should think it over carefully. Choosing a major attribute that doesn't suit you is actually a very painful thing."
Thor paused, realizing that Rum's words seemed to come from a personal reflection.
Does Professor Rum not like his current research direction?
Thor lifted the curtain and went out, glancing back into the room at the last moment.
The candlelight in the room seemed to have been deliberately dimmed, with only a beam of light shining in.
The mountain of flesh-like mentor, Rum, sat in the shadows of the room.
Everything was so blurry.
The heavy curtains quickly stopped swaying, blocking Thor's prying view.
After leaving Professor Rum's room, Saul hurried toward the laboratory.
He had felt before that the nightmare couldn't be delayed, and if it weren't for Professor Rum's help today, he would have gone to Senior Byron or someone else.
The good news is that, in Rum's eyes, dealing with this vengeful spirit is a trivial matter. He doesn't even bother to do it himself and only sends a senior student to help Thor.
"I hope that senior is easy to talk to," Thor thought to himself.
Saul left Rum's room and hurried up the ramp; the mentors' floor was much quieter than the apprentices' floor.
The three level-two apprentices who were just queuing at the door have disappeared.
Looking at the deserted corridor under the bright candlelight, Thor suddenly had a strange thought.
This wizard's tower, which imprisons servants and apprentices, has it also imprisoned others?
Is the only one truly free the tower's owner, Gorsa, whom Thor once jokingly called "Big Pink"?
When Thor met the Tower Master today, the man was completely wrapped in a brownish-red cloak. The sliver of his chin that was visible indicated that Gorsa usually wrapped his entire body in pink silk bandages.
Can such a tower owner be free?
