Chapter 67 The First Test Amidst Unexpected Changes

Chapter 67 The First Test Amidst Unexpected Changes

Afraid of dreaming after falling asleep, Thor simply meditated with a crystal ball in the latter half of the night.

Although the transformation of his left hand greatly increased his magical power, his innate magical talent did not change much as a result.

In other words, improving his magical power in the future will still be a major challenge.

Fortunately, the most pressing crisis has been averted, and Thor can now utilize other, safer methods, or continue with his body modification, to enhance his magic.

At eight o'clock in the morning, the hourglass reminded Thor that it was time to set off.

He carried his bag and headed to his mentor Katz's laboratory.

Mark wasn't there today; only Angela was huddled nervously in a corner of the lab.

When he saw Thor walk in, he forced a smile and greeted him.

Good morning, Thor.

"Oh? Good morning."

Thor glanced at Angela and saw that she had already lowered her head on her own.

Angela seems very nervous.

"Hoo—" Thor exclaimed softly.

Okay, he was actually quite nervous too.

Even though I was a corporate slave in my previous life, I still took some social exams.

Every exam, I still get nervous, lacking any adult composure.

This is probably the price he has to pay for preparing for the exam but not taking it seriously.

But the tension now is different from that of the previous life.

The Level 1 Wizard Apprentice Test is held once a month, and newcomers are given three months to prepare for the first test.

Judging from the attitudes of the instructors and the comments of the seniors, it is clear that failing an exam involves much more than just failing and having to retake it.

"What's the worst that could happen if the test fails?"

"They won't be turned into fertilizer, will they?"

Thor was quite confident in his abilities. The reason he was so nervous was mainly because he feared the authority of the entire Wizard Tower and the power of the formal wizards.

A first-level apprentice is far too weak in their presence.

The two waited in the lab from eight to nine o'clock, and the atmosphere in the lab became increasingly tense.

However, Kaz's mentor never appeared.

Thor, who was trying to relax by clearing his mind, suddenly saw Angela walking towards him and sitting on a stool a meter away.

"Saul, do you know where Duke went? He hasn't been to the lab for days," Angela asked cautiously.

"He's dead," Thor replied emotionlessly.

Angela suddenly raised her head, but before she could meet Thor's gaze, she immediately lowered her head to avoid it.

"Oh...oh..." Her ten fingers were intertwined, and her buttocks would occasionally shift, as if she were in a state of great distress.

"Um..." Angela wanted to quickly change the subject about Duke, "The test is at nine o'clock today, right? Why aren't the professors and senior students here yet?"

Thor didn't know why either, and was wondering if he should go out and take a look.

Just then, footsteps approached, and senior student Mark walked in from outside the door.

Without saying hello to the two of them, he rushed into the laboratory and began picking through the materials.

After finishing tidying up, he turned to the two of them without turning around and said, "The instructors have something come up today, so all the new apprentices' tests will be held in the public classroom on the tenth floor. You should go there now."

"Ah!" Angela gasped softly, covering her lips with her hands.

Saul immediately stood up and followed Mark out of the laboratory.

There were also apprentices in the corridor, carrying books or bags, coming out of other laboratories in twos and threes.

Everyone was completely confused and discussing the matter, with unease written on everyone's face.

Angela, who had chased after him from the lab, jogged a few steps to Saul's left.

It's strange, she was clearly frightened by Thor just now, but she still stayed by Thor's side.

This, however, made Saul wary.

Angela opened her mouth to continue speaking to Thor when a figure forcefully squeezed between them.

"Good morning, Thor! Oh? Good morning, Angela."

After casually greeting Angela, Claire turned to look at Thor.

"Why is your mental state getting worse and worse?"

Thor gave a wry smile.

"I had a nightmare."

"Nightmare? With your high mental strength, ordinary nightmares shouldn't affect you, right? Could it be that you're being haunted by some kind of ghost? Should we go see someone to check it out?"

Keli astutely spotted the potential problems.

Apprentices whose mental abilities are developed in this way generally don't dream for no reason, let alone have nightmares for no reason.

So whenever Thor mentioned nightmares, Claire immediately suspected that Thor was in some kind of trouble.

When she said, "Should we ask someone to take a look?", she emphasized the word "person" very clearly.

Keli refers to Byron.

"Yes." Thor thought so too.

Byron, who works in the morgue year-round, should be quite experienced in dealing with ghosts. However, he has just been promoted to a third-level apprentice and is very busy with registration, moving, and collecting new materials.

The work in the morgue has been handed over to a new second-level apprentice. The only way to find him is to go to his new dormitory.

If it weren't for that nightmare that made Saul feel so uneasy, he wouldn't have thought of bothering Byron.

It's not good to keep bothering people, especially since there aren't many credits left.

Angela walked silently to the side, her pace slowing down.

As soon as Claire arrived, she began to chat enthusiastically with Thor, and the usually silent Thor was also able to talk and laugh with Claire.

She couldn't help but bite her lip, somewhat regretting her initial hesitation.

Thor's mental talent was outstanding among all the first-level apprentices, but he seemed to have offended a second-level apprentice at the time, and his mentor didn't think much of him either, which is why Angela didn't choose to befriend him right away.

Angela was mainly afraid of getting into trouble; not everyone has the confidence that Claire has.

Thor continued talking to Claire; both were in a hurry, taking very long strides, and soon left the lagging Angela behind.

The public classroom used temporarily for testing was large, with more than twenty new students scattered throughout.

Three months of studying witchcraft led most of them to form small groups. A few loners, however, sat silently, far from the others.

Saul and Claire still chose seats in the back row of the classroom.

Angela didn't come along this time; instead, she found a place to sit down on her own.

"Hasn't she always been silent to you? Why is she suddenly leaning closer today?" Claire asked, resting her chin on her hand.

"Probably just nervousness," Thor said, not paying much attention. "Do you know what happened? Why was the test moved here, and why is it being conducted as a group?"

"I'm not quite sure either. I was having breakfast with Professor Gu Duo this morning. He was suddenly called away, and then I was notified that the test would be moved to a public classroom."

"Having dinner with... Gudo-sensei?" Thor asked with difficulty.

"yes."

Keli had a look on her face that said, "I don't know what's wrong with me."

"I've completely gotten used to his vomiting now, and I can even eat bread next to him without batting an eye."

Thor didn't know whether to envy Klee for being able to have dinner with Gudo, or to pity her for having to have dinner with Gudo.

Thor and Claire were talking, and the others in the classroom were also discussing it.

The noise was constant; a dozen or so people created the atmosphere of a hundred.

"Bang!"

A loud bang startled everyone.

Thor looked toward the source of the sound and saw a second-level apprentice with a smile on his lips walk in.

Keli, who was next to her, suddenly gasped.

Even Thor frowned and sat up straight.

Because the new second-level apprentice was none other than Luo Kai, who had given them their first introductory lesson!

Through the mutual aid society, Luo Kai has parasitized countless newcomers. Thor is unaware of his hidden motives, but he has already concluded that Luo Kai is not the good person he appears to be.

They have already categorized Luo Kai as part of the evil camp.

However, Luo Kai did not speak when he came in. He simply arranged the chair on the front platform and laid out a soft fur cushion.

"Someone else is coming in, and that person is the one in charge of the testing!" Thor immediately turned to look at the door.

Sure enough, a few breaths later, a thin, pale man who looked rather listless slowly walked in.

He wore a slightly loose, white robe, and his exposed hands were thin and bony. His footsteps were silent.

If it weren't for his short stature, Thor would have thought it was Pinkie Pie making his entrance just by looking at his walking posture.

However, Saul never saw him, but others did.

Claire whispered to Thor, "That's Mentor Anze, who specializes in earth and wood magic, but also water and poison magic. I heard he's even studied light magic. He's currently the mentor with the most apprentices in the Wizarding Tower. Luo Kai... is his apprentice."
