Chapter 325 The Box

Chapter 325 The Box

Saul did not disturb Sander and listened quietly to his entire story.

When Sander finished speaking, Saul stood up from his seat.

"In that case, let's go there now."

"Huh?" Sander was taken aback.

"My lord?" The attendant hurried forward. He had initially wanted to dissuade him, but seeing Saul's expression, he immediately changed his mind. "Please allow us to accompany you. If you like that house, we can tidy it up for you."

"No need," Thor declined the servant's offer to follow.

Judging from Sander's mental state and the abnormality he exhibited, this guy is indeed in trouble.

The fact that others didn't see it is likely because the vengeful spirit has already possessed Sander, so it can't care about the others.

Some vengeful spirits are quite professional at harming people, and they generally won't move on to another target until the person they are currently harassing dies.

Once they have killed enough people and replenished their soul power, coupled with further contamination, they may become evil spirits.

This is probably the lifelong pursuit of many vengeful spirits who have lost their minds.

A conscious vengeful spirit must contain a lot of soul fragments, and Thor has been a bit depleted lately, so he's going to replenish his reserves.

Of course, the most important thing was the house Sander mentioned, which perfectly met all of Saul's requirements.

Saul took Sander to the lakeside cabin in the college's carriage.

This place is closer to the Wizard's Tower than Outpost Town, but because it's hidden in the mountains, it's hard to find. I wonder who would have built a house in such a place.

The houses were built using local materials, mostly wood, but Thor found stones shaped by witchcraft in some corners.

"It seems the person who originally built this house was a wizard. Perhaps he was a wizarding apprentice who wanted to live a secluded life away from the town."

Saul went to the door and waited for Sander to climb down shakily from the carriage.

The Mushroom Driver drives very fast and is best at shortening a half-day journey to two hours.

Sander, who had never ridden in a high-speed carriage before, turned pale with fright, but because the person sitting opposite him was a wizard, he managed to hold back from screaming even once.

But as soon as he got off the carriage, Sander, who had been looking a bit listless, immediately straightened up and stepped down with an air of nobility.

In fact, his clothes were of decent quality, though somewhat worn. He had no servants with him, and despite living so far away, he didn't even have his own carriage. He resembled one of those nobles who had fallen on hard times.

"This is it, sir." Sander stepped forward to open the door for Saul, but the lock on the door opened automatically.

He was startled and was about to jump up and shout that there was a ghost when he saw Thor walk in leisurely.

Sander then remembered that, according to legend, wizards do not need keys to open doors.

He looked at the wide-open doorway and the dark hall before him, and hesitated.

Sunlight streamed through the doorway and fell onto the old wooden floor, creating a somewhat indistinct boundary between light and shadow.

Like the distance between life and death.

Sander clearly didn't want to enter the haunted house; the little wizard's figure was almost disappearing into the darkness.

Following a wizard to the haunted house didn't make Sander feel confident. On the contrary, the wizard's "human aura" quickly disappeared as he left the outpost town in a carriage.

Sander's face turned pale, partly from being frightened by the speed of the carriage, and partly from the imposing aura emanating from the wizard before him.

He could have waited for Saul to finish inspecting the room and, if he thought there were no problems, then come out and sign the property transfer/rental agreement with him.

But Sander's eyes darted around, and before he knew it, he mustered his courage and stepped inside.

Meanwhile, Thor had finished exploring the first floor and was now on the second floor.

The stairs, which have been neglected for a long time, have become damp and creak when you walk on them.

Thor wandered around the first floor and didn't see any soul fragments or vengeful spirits. Just as the servants at the Innhouse had said, the place had indeed been thoroughly cleaned inside and out.

However, according to Sander's description, the vengeful spirits here can already affect physical objects, meaning they must have taken shape and possess a certain level of consciousness. Ordinary people's methods can generally only deal with some corrupted soul fragments; for more powerful vengeful spirits, the methods of wizards are required.

Given the current cleanliness of the cabin, it is clearly not haunted.

As Saul stepped onto the second floor, he heard footsteps on the first floor.

"Did Sander just come in?" He glanced down and saw a figure tiptoeing around cautiously. He smiled slightly and continued checking the room.

The second floor was divided into three rooms, two small and one large.

But the bed was made in the smallest room. Each room had only a small window for ventilation, as if the people who first built the houses preferred darkness and disliked sunlight.

The largest room was empty except for a wardrobe with one half-broken door.

But when Thor crouched down to examine the ground, he discovered many old marks on the ground.

"There used to be many cabinets and tables here... just like the professors' laboratories."

Saul stood up, and with a gentle wave of his hands, the dust that had accumulated over the past few days was swept up and sent out of the room through the air vent.

When the room is clean and fresh, the traces of furniture that were once placed on the floor become more obvious.

"This layout is very similar to Kaz's laboratory. The person who built this house must have been a wizard apprentice."

Saul was very satisfied; he even planned to rearrange the laboratory according to the layout on the ground.

"I wonder if the original owner of this house was someone like me who planned to build a temporary shelter outside the tower, or an apprentice who was expelled from the wizard tower and had no choice but to live here."

Just now, Thor's magic opened the air vent in the room, letting in some fresh air.

The damp scent of the fibers, mixed with the chirping of unknown insects and birds, created a sense of tranquility reminiscent of a pastoral life.

Thor walked to the air vent and looked out, and was surprised to find that he could actually see the spire of the Wizard Tower from this angle.

"Very good, it's almost certain that he's an apprentice who was expelled from the tower."

After the tour, Saul walked out of the room and down the old staircase.

The noise quickly alerted Sander in the hall, who rushed to the stairwell and forced a smile.

Saul noticed that he had just run out of a room.

This person seems to still be looking for his luggage. Despite being afraid of ghosts, he still insists on coming in to retrieve it.

It seems there's something very important to him in his luggage.

"Sir, did you see a ghost?" Sander asked tremblingly.

"No, every room is very clean." Thor shook his head.

"But, but sir, I really did encounter a ghost here, I wouldn't dare lie to you," Sander said anxiously.

"I know." Thor's eyes fell on Sander's neck.

The gray, rotting arm was still wrapped around the other person's neck.

If we draw some parallels, the owner of that arm might have been trying to strangle Sander from behind.

"Well, maybe it was a ghost that ran away when it saw you, sir." Sander's eyes darted left and right. "Sir, did you see a huge wicker basket upstairs?"

Sander gestured with his hands to indicate his name.

According to his description, the rattan box was quite large.

It feels like it could fit a person.
