Chapter 324 Haunted House

Chapter 324 Haunted House

Saul did not answer the person immediately. He glanced around and noticed that many people were coming and going in the lobby. A few were led by people dressed in the same clothes, but most were acting alone.

During the time Saul observed, the man beside him, who appeared to be an innkeeper, waited quietly.

The man was a bit taller than Thor, so he kept his neck hunched and back bent while talking to Thor.

Thor didn't deliberately leave anyone hanging. After quickly scanning the area, he followed the attendant's guidance into the hall.

"I'm looking for a quiet, secluded house, preferably in the suburbs, but no more than half a day's drive from the outpost town."

The lobby on the first floor is decorated like a luxury pub, but a wide passageway is left in the middle of the lobby for people to walk through.

In the very middle of this passageway, there was a black short-pile carpet.

When Saul walked in, no one else was walking on the carpet except him.

Even the man leading the way walked close to the carpet, not daring to step even half a centimeter into it.

Fortunately, the hall was still quite lively when Thor entered, and it didn't immediately quiet down because of his arrival, otherwise Thor would have felt a little awkward.

Although he doesn't care about other people's opinions, he doesn't like being treated like a national treasure all the time.

The attendant directing Saul leaned towards him and said in a low voice that Saul could hear, "We can offer you a variety of options. Please have a seat in the private room, and we will present you with detailed information."

The man led Saul to a place that resembled a private room, located at the far end of the hall.

Once Saul went inside and sat down, the male waiter was about to call for water and food to be served.

"No need," Saul stopped him from doing anything unnecessary. "I came here because I heard you could fulfill my request the fastest. How much longer until I see your information?"

The attendant's smile turned serious, and he bowed, saying, "Within three minutes."

After saying this, he bowed to Saul again, then quickly walked to the door and told the people waiting outside about Saul's request.

Just then, a distant arguing sound drifted in through the half-open door.

"...I told you, I lost my luggage in that haunted house! You guys have to help me find it!"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Sander, we have sent people to the house you vacated, but there are no belongings inside."

"Impossible! I was just about to move in, I hadn't even unpacked my luggage, and then I encountered a ghost! You sold me this house, you have to take responsibility."

"But Lord Sander, we have sent three groups of people into the house, and you were there the last time. You know what happened then; there were no ghosts inside, nor were your belongings there."

"That must have been hidden by a ghost! I don't care, you have to find my luggage! It contains very important things of mine! If you lose my luggage, I'll go around telling everyone you rent out haunted houses to outsiders!"

"Lord Sander...we sympathize with what happened to you at the new house. We cannot rule out the possibility that your belongings may have been stolen by someone else after you left without locking the door."

"Others? Ha, the house you introduced me to is deep in the mountains, next to a lake, and you can't even see the rooftops of the neighbors. You're telling me there could be other people there?"

At this point, another voice was already getting a little impatient.

"Mr. Sander, you requested a secluded environment, no more than half a day's drive from town, and ideally, a lake nearby for moonlit strolls! The house we offer perfectly meets your requirements!"

"But I didn't ask the house to be haunted!"

At first, neither of them spoke loudly, but the wizard had strong mental power and his five senses were far superior to those of ordinary people, so Thor could hear him very clearly.

But soon, the two people's voices grew louder and louder, probably loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear.

At this moment, the male attendant, who had been carrying several stacked papers, turned around and was about to present them to Saul when he was interrupted.

Thor raised his right hand and pointed outside.

"Sir, I'll make them quiet right away, if you need them to come and apologize to you..."

"I want the house that Mr. Sander returned. If your paperwork isn't finished yet, please invite him over as well."

The attendant paused for a moment, but quickly composed himself and bowed respectfully. "No problem, sir."

So, just two minutes later, a flustered Sander sat down opposite Thor.

He came in with the rental agreement that had not yet been signed to terminate the lease.

"My lord." Sander cautiously raised his head, but immediately lowered it again when he met Thor's gaze.

Saul then scanned Sander's entire body without any hesitation. This seemingly unreasonable Sander turned out to be a gigolo.

The term "pretty boy" is a very accurate adjective.

Because Sander had applied something to her face, the effect was only slightly more natural than using face powder as foundation.

Fortunately, he knew to apply a little pinkish-nude color to his cheeks to make him look more normal; otherwise, if he saw a ghost, it would be hard to tell who would be scared.

He also had long, slightly wavy hair that reached down to his shoulders.

However, judging from the nonchalant attitude of the servants, Thor knew that this might be a local custom of dress.

"You mean there's a ghost in the house you just rented?" Saul asked.

"Yes, Wizard." Sander dared not meet Thor's gaze any longer and could only look down at the ground in front of Thor's toes.

"What kind of ghost?"

Sander unconsciously rubbed his fingers together. "I... I didn't see the ghost directly."

After saying that, seemingly afraid that Saul would misunderstand him as lying, he quickly sped up and continued, "Although I didn't see it directly, there really was a ghost in that house. As soon as I walked in, the door slammed shut. I swear, my clothes didn't snag on the doorknob, and there wasn't a sound at all!"

Perhaps because he had already been doubted by countless people, Sander explained as he spoke, afraid that Saul might also misunderstand him as a fraud.

"And when I was going upstairs, someone tugged at my trouser leg. I swear I didn't slip! I really saw a grayish-white hand! Its fingernails were also black, and it even tore a hole in my trousers."

Sander then recounted his experience in a guest room on the first floor.

What "peeping eyes", what "eerie laughter", what "windows that can't be closed no matter what"?

Saul noticed that the servant standing at the door, listening, had already rolled his eyes impatiently.

But Saul knew that the man named Sander was not lying.

As he squinted at Sander, he saw a rotting, maggot-infested gray arm wrapped around Sander's neck.

Judging from the bone structure and skin condition of the arm, it should belong to a young girl or a slender boy.

However, the rotting elbows and wrists of Sander's arm were hidden in Sander's curly hair, making it impossible to tell whether there was someone else hanging behind him.

A maggot fell into Sander's collar because of his excited movement, and the latter happened to raise his hand a few seconds later and casually scratched his chest.

"Sir, everything I'm saying is true, please believe me!"

Having finished recounting everything, Sander finally raised his head, straining his sincere eyes to try and impress the powerful wizard before him.
