Chapter 20 Excellent people always get their chance.

Mark saw determination in Saul's eyes.

Although it's unclear how a new apprentice could make the decision to undergo witchcraft transformation on the very second day.

You should know that he hesitated for a whole month before finally cutting his own hands.

However, Mark can now see some value in Saul.

The person who managed to escape the midnight lab was definitely not an ordinary newbie.

Either they have the ability, or they have powerful connections.

"Then you can start copying. This book explains things very clearly. If you want to study it further after you finish reading it, you can come to the lab to find me. I'll be here for the next month."

Mark's gentle demeanor left the other two newcomers in the lab completely astonished.

"Thank you, senior Mark."

Saul sat down again; he didn't have much time, and he had to make the most of every second while copying the book.

Mark left the space to Saul and walked to the other side of the laboratory.

At this moment, Angela, who had been observing for a long time, picked up the book in front of her, walked up to Mark, and gave him a sweet smile.

"Senior, I'm having trouble with a few parts of building runes today. Could you teach me?"

Angela rested her chin on a book, trying to show off her cuteness as much as possible.

"Of course," Mark smiled, "10 magic crystals, or 2 credits."

The surprise that had just risen in Angela's eyes vanished in an instant.

She only had a few dozen magic crystals on her, how could she possibly spend them just by asking a few questions?

"I... I'll think about it some more."

Angela quickly returned to her seat, bowing her head deeply, afraid of seeing the mocking looks from others.

She thought she could only ask Professor Katz when she had the chance, but it seemed that her and Duke's performance yesterday did not satisfy Professor Katz.

I wonder if the other person will come to the lab today?

The book "Grimm's Cognition of Body Modification" is not thick, only a little over a hundred pages, and it is not a printed version, so there are not many words in total.

When Saul was copying, he skipped over some useless interjections and only extracted the essential information to make reading notes.

However, for a newcomer who has only been studying for two days, fully understanding this book is more difficult than he imagined.

Saul didn't stand on ceremony and went to ask Mark for his opinion, holding the book in his hand.

From the change in the other party's attitude, Saul could tell that the other party was intentionally trying to make amends to him.

I don't know why.

Did Thor's survival make the other side wary, or did Pink's big move get Mark's attention?

Whatever the reason, it won't stop Saul from taking the opportunity to get some reward first.

With Mark's help in summarizing the key points, Saul's copying speed increased significantly. He was fully confident that he would have copied all the important content from the book by noon the next day.

This way, the two magic crystals won't be wasted.

Kaz's mentor appeared again after 3:30.

However, he kept his brows furrowed, as if he was pondering some difficult problem.

Duke, who was about to step forward to ask a question, was casually turned away.

The two newcomers then realized why the other apprentices didn't come to the lab to ask questions.

The patient explanation on the first day seems to be just a deceptive opening, and once you are drawn in, its true coldness is immediately revealed.

Duke couldn't find any sense of superiority in Thor again, and his expression became somewhat flustered, his glances at Thor becoming increasingly complicated.

But no one expected that after Kaz had been thinking with a worried expression in the lab for a while, he would suddenly walk up to Thor.

"Mentor?" Mark thought Kaz had come to see him and stood up nervously.

To everyone's surprise, Katz stood in front of Thor and said, "Come with me."

Thor was first surprised, then delighted.

Yesterday, Duke and Angela were taken away, while he was left behind, which meant that his mentor had abandoned him. But today, his mentor suddenly remembered him.

What made him change his mind?

Thor quickly gathered his books and quietly followed behind Katz.

They walked down the slope of the East Tower, occasionally encountering apprentices along the way, who would step aside and bow in greeting.

As a new apprentice, Thor had not yet been to the lower floors of the East Tower.

The lower floors of the West Tower were the living quarters for the butler and servants, and the very bottom floor was a garbage dump.

Thor used to take the trash he collected while cleaning the corridors back to the storage room, where someone would clean and move it regularly. He had never been to the landfill and didn't know what kind of place it was.

I've only heard that the servants who go there are all long-time servants, and each of them has an eccentric personality and hardly interacts with outsiders.

The further down the corridor went, the dimmer the lights became. Thor kept his head down and followed closely behind his mentor, Katz, without peeking out curiously.

But he was silently counting the number of floors in his mind.

9,

8,

7,

……

2!

When the countdown reached two, Kaz suddenly turned around and led him into this floor.

At the entrance to the second floor, there was a burly man who looked to weigh over 200 pounds, sitting motionless on the ground, leaning against the wall.

The entire corridor was mostly blocked.

Kaz led Thor through the remaining gap, but the big man still didn't react.

After walking a few steps, there was a red wooden door.

Katz pushed the door open and entered, the door panel creaking loudly.

As soon as Thor went inside, a pungent stench, mixed with the smell of blood, filled his nostrils.

Thor immediately held his breath and looked up at his instructor.

Kaz remained motionless in the center of the room, his expression unchanged, as if he had no nose.

The walls of the room were covered in a ghastly white powder, with writing in a style Thor didn't recognize, resembling graffiti.

Fortunately, although the text looked somewhat chaotic, it did not make Saul feel dizzy.

In the very center of the room is a conveyor belt extending from the wall.

The entrance is covered by black leather tassels, obscuring the view inside.

Next to the conveyor belt was a long table, which was covered with all kinds of square boxes of different sizes.

The boxes were all open at the moment, empty, but their edges and corners were stained with some unknown sticky substance.

Some boxes even had clusters of mushrooms the size of fingertips growing on their outside.

Some tools such as hammers and chisels were hanging on one side of the table.

Under the long table was a large wheeled box. The opening of the box was also open, and the inside was stained with patches of dark red, almost black, ink.

That box seemed to be the source of the stench and blood in the room.

Near the inner wall, there was a table and two chairs. The chairs were casually pulled out.

There were many books stacked on the table, along with scattered single pages, an overturned pen holder, and pens that had rolled down the pen holder to the floor.

"The first and second floors of the East Tower were rooms for storing corpses. This is the second floor."

Corpse?

Thor pursed his lips, and suddenly a connection was made to everything he had just seen.

"If you can perform well in the job here, you can earn 3 credits each month."

Thor suddenly looked up.

The apprentice's handbook states that one credit can be exchanged for ten magic crystals, and credits have many more uses. Conversely, ten magic crystals cannot be exchanged for a single credit!

Thor could hardly contain himself; the words "I want, I can, I can" were about to burst out of his mouth, pushing aside his teeth and lips.

But then he suddenly thought of Angela and Duke from yesterday. Were they also brought here? But they didn't meet Katz's requirements, so they were back in the lab today?

"What do you need me to do?" Thor tried to make his voice sound calm and obedient.

"Dispose of the mutated corpses," Kaz said, pulling down a wrench next to the teleportation platform.

The conveyor belt started rolling, and soon, a fresh corpse, its black leather tassels torn open, was brought before the two of them.

Saul had already guessed that he would be doing work involving corpses. But when a real corpse appeared before him, he still couldn't help but turn pale and take two steps back.

The corpse, bound to the conveyor belt, was covered with a piece of black leather, its face undamaged and exposed outside the leather.

Thor recognized him at a glance—it was the new apprentice Clare had mentioned who had cut his legs into strips and buried them in the flowerbed yesterday!
