Chapter 148 This is the proper attitude for an apology

Thor looked somewhat bewildered.

But Byron stepped forward and pulled Thor out, then put the bag away. "Here you go back. There are enemies. Get out of here."

Although Thor was still unaware of what had happened, he instinctively followed Byron.

Their original camp was near the cave, but most of it had been destroyed by the previous shelling.

Saul pointed to a hole and told them that he had hidden all his valuables there.

But when Wright ran over, he found the place empty.

"They must have found it by the people who travel by land," Nick said. "The Wood Spider is gone too."

Wright grinned at the people on the land-based boat. "I'll go kill them all! These guys have been trying to kill us ever since they showed up, trying to silence us. There's definitely something going on here."

"Kill them quickly, run away quickly." Byron agreed.

Two third-level apprentices walked over, looking aggressive.

The people traveling by land realized something was wrong and scrambled to their feet, trying to run away.

"Stop!" came a sharp shout.

Everyone looked toward the source of the sound.

It's Thor.

He pressed one hand to his temple, his face slightly contorted, and pointed the other finger at the opposite cliff. "Can that ship still start?"

The land-based sailors now trembled at the mere sound of Thor's voice, but after realizing what he was saying, one of them mustered the courage to say, "A three-masted sailing ship can be started with five men. We can sail for you, please spare our lives."

Nick immediately said, "We took their boat, and we might be being tracked."

But Wright retorted, "Come on, we can't outrun our pursuers on foot. If they're official wizards, we'll have nowhere to hide. As long as we get out of Handle Valley, I don't believe they'll dare chase us into the Wizard Tower's territory!"

Saul agreed with Wright's point of view, and he suggested that escaping by boat was the same idea.

With time running out, Byron finally decided to escape by boat, regardless of whether there were any tracking signals on board, and to go as far as possible.

He and Wright look energetic now, but they are actually very exhausted.

Thor was clearly not in good condition. His face looked normal at the moment, but no one knew whether the melting of his whole body would have any lasting effects on him.

We must get back to the Wizard's Tower as soon as possible!

The four men, holding the remaining enemies on land-based boats hostage, boarded the three-masted sailing ship opposite them as quickly as possible.

Upon stepping onto the deck, the group was pleasantly surprised to find that most of their equipment and wooden spiders had been moved there.

However, before they could take a headcount, they immediately took the prisoners and set sail.

There were exactly five survivors left on the land-based boat.

As a patient, Saul doesn't have to work.

He rubbed his head as he casually sat down next to their recovered luggage.

Soon, the sailboat gradually rose to one meter off the ground.

Then all three sails were lowered. Even though there was no wind, they seemed to be billowing as if blown by something.

The entire ship began to move rapidly.

"Finally, I can run." Thor breathed a slight sigh of relief. "Damn, my head hurts so much. Is this a side effect of the internal battle?"

A sharp pain struck, and Thor involuntarily swayed to the side, bumping right into the soul fluctuation sensor next to him.

Thor, who was battling the pain, seemed to see something out of the corner of his eye.

He immediately turned his head and was shocked to find a smooth black shadow in the mirror of the sensor.

The dark figure stood behind Thor, head slightly bowed, as if watching him intently.

"Ha!"

Thor immediately stood up and looked behind him.

He naturally couldn't see anything.

He looked at the sensor again, and the dark figure remained behind him as he moved.

Thor slowly turned his head to look at the switch on the sensor.

Sure enough, the sensor wasn't activated at all!

Thor remembered that the shadowy figure appearing behind him now was actually the same shadowy figure that had appeared in the perception device at the entrance of the Valley of Falling Hands!

"Could it be that I was already possessed by an evil spirit when I entered the Valley of Falling Hands?"

This spirit was solid and completely different from the blurry spirit they saw later.

However, since it never appeared again, Thor gradually forgot about the spirit.

Unexpectedly, it kept following Thor.

"One evil spirit has already tormented me half to death. If this spirit is also evil, then I don't need to think about resisting. I might as well just lie down and wait to die."

Thor chuckled self-deprecatingly and slowly sat back down.

However, his greatest source of confidence lies in the diary that floats quietly on his left shoulder.

"Since we're not going to die anytime soon, let's rest for a while."

Another headache struck, and Thor leaned directly against the mirror of the perception device.

In the distorted mirror, the dark figure that stood silently behind Thor gradually faded away.

The sailboats, which travel on land, moved very fast, gradually leaving the Valley of Drifting Hands and sailing through the plains and forests.

The boat can be lifted up to five meters off the ground to prevent its hull from being scratched by tree branches.

However, this method is energy-intensive and can only be sustained for a limited time.

Up until now, no pursuers have caught up with them, and the tense group has breathed a sigh of relief.

The prisoners were initially disappointed, but after some private discussion, they eventually showed signs of relief.

However, everyone was still worried about these people, since they were not familiar with the ship and who knew if they were up to any tricks.

The next morning, Byron was examining Saul, while Nick was taking notes.

Wright suddenly came running up, cursing.

"These guys actually dared to lie to me!"

Nick immediately stood up. "What's wrong?"

"You don't need five people to start the boat. Once you start the boat, only one person is needed to adjust the direction."

Nick thought for a moment and said, "Maybe they're afraid that if they tell the truth, the extra people will be killed."

Byron didn't participate in the discussion. He pulled down Saul's sleeves. "It seems that apart from the skin dissolution on his hands, everything else has returned to normal. But there might be some underlying issues that I can't detect."

"Your headache is a side effect of being possessed by an evil spirit. The evil spirit absorbed many soul fragments while it was inside you. Although most of them perished after the evil spirit died, some may have remained. In short..."

"In short, after I get back, I need to find a more professional person to examine and treat me."

Nick covered his forehead, seemingly recalling: "Thank goodness, in that situation, I thought you would dissolve into a skeleton. This mission, you and Senior Byron really opened my eyes."

Thor chuckled, then said to Byron, "When did you become such a good actor, senior? You completely fooled the evil spirit."

Byron replied earnestly, "I learned it from you."

Thor: "..."

Wright let out a "Ha!" and then stopped, wanting to laugh but not daring to, while looking at Byron with admiration.

The latter stood up, put his hand on Wright's shoulder, and said, "I'll take over next time."

Wright lowered his head. "Oh, I tied up the other four and told the one who was shoving the boat that if he didn't behave, I'd kill him and move on to the next one."

Byron nodded, got up, and walked down the deck.

The deck was quiet for a moment.

Nick, who was organizing the data, noticed that Wright was standing there awkwardly, neither resting nor meditating.

Across from him, Thor began rubbing his head with his skeletal hand.

Nick stood up, cleared his throat, and said, "I'll go to the lookout tower to see if there are any pursuers."

After saying that, he quickly left.

After Nick left, Wright seemed to finally muster the courage to step forward.

Thor, who was suffering from a headache, opened his eyes alertly and looked at Wright expressionlessly.

"Um... I'm sorry!" Wright suddenly bowed deeply to Thor. "But I really didn't hurt you in the cave earlier."

Wright quickly recounted Thor's experience after he fell behind.

Seeing that Thor still had no expression, she said somewhat nervously, "I thought you wouldn't make it out when you fell behind, so I..."

Seeing that Saul was just staring at him expressionlessly without saying a word, his unease grew, and he quickly apologized again.

"I am truly sorry, please forgive me. I am willing to make amends for my mistake!"

Saul rested his chin on his hand. "Then let's write an IOU."

Wright: "?"

"Just write that Wright owes Saul one hundred credits, stamp it with your name tag, and make two copies."
