Chapter 129 He's Coming

Chapter 129 He's Coming

Byron sighed, a look of lingering fear appearing on his usually dull face.

"Fortunately, that wizard-level evil spirit was not formed from the death of a wizard, but rather a new evil spirit formed by the condensation of many weaker evil spirits under the binding of a soul storm. It was incomplete. This also caused its consciousness to be extremely chaotic. Although it had a main consciousness, its actions were often affected by other consciousnesses."

Wright added, still shaken, "Luckily, Nick used his emotional magic to influence the evil spirit's consciousness while we were fighting it. That's how we managed to escape. However, Nick almost died because of his emotional breakdown, so Byron had to knock him unconscious and bring him out."

Hearing this, Thor looked at Nick, who was being carried on Byron's back, with immense admiration.

Nick specializes in emotion-based witchcraft, and he must suppress his emotional fluctuations daily to avoid affecting the effectiveness of his magic. However, this also means that when his emotions become uncontrollable and fluctuate violently, it can harm him.

Thor suspected that this might be the reason why he had been unable to advance to level three.

In Byron's later account, as they fled, they discovered that the evil spirit was chasing them again, and in the chaos, they became separated from Wright.

By chance, Byron and Bill returned to the next level of the crypt and soon encountered the men who were hunting Thor.

The enemy was dressed in silver and was very strong, but he was no match for Byron and Bill when facing two opponents.

Having tested the two men's strength, the enemy abandoned the fight and retreated immediately.

"If Thor's speculation is correct, then that silver enemy is..." Wright thought of Thor's previous encounter.

"It's Herman!" Byron confirmed the enemy's identity, "one of the strongest third-level apprentices in the Land-based Ark."

Why would the strongest Level 3 apprentice on land-based boats appear here?

No one asked the question, but they all subconsciously thought of the four people Bill killed. Could it be that one of those four had a close relationship with Herman?

"A three-masted sailing ship plus Herman—there must be quite a few people on this land-based transport." Wright, running ahead, turned back and gave Saul a thumbs up. "You're amazing to have survived all this!"

"But the problem now is that once we get back to land, we might be bombarded by three-masted ships."

With wolves in front and tigers behind, the current situation is extremely critical.

Thor couldn't help but wonder what they should do in this situation.

"Unless they're confident they can wipe us all out, the Landship won't dare to make a move openly." Bill, however, wasn't so worried about the others ahead; he continued running at full speed. "Don't forget how the Tower Master dealt with the Landship's captain last time. They haven't dared to set foot in the Wizard Tower's territory for a long time."

"Don't be so optimistic, Bill! If he really doesn't dare to attack the Wizard Tower, will Thor be forced underground?" Wright disagreed with Bill's point of view.

But regardless of whether the land-based ships would attack them, they had to run to the surface.

Compared to a third-level apprentice who can travel on land, a fully-fledged wizard-level evil spirit is far more terrifying.

"Ideally, we'd have the land-based boatmen confront that evil spirit, and then we can escape." Bill suddenly turned around and glanced back, his eyes gleaming, lost in thought.

"What's that up ahead?" Thor, who had been staring intently ahead, suddenly asked.

"What?" Bill, who was in the first position, quickly turned around and saw white phantoms appearing in the hole in front of him.

Those white phantoms were the same armless wretch they had seen before.

But compared to the scene a few days ago when they were cautious and dared not make a sound, now their eyebrows and eyes were exaggeratedly raised, and the corners of their mouths were also raised in a strange arc.

It was as if someone had used strings to suspend their facial features, creating smiles devoid of any joy.

These phantom figures stood facing Thor and his companions, shoulder to shoulder, completely blocking the passage.

"Ha, a bunch of trash," Bill scoffed, ignoring the ghostly figures that weren't actually corpses.

However, when he crashed into the wall of human figures formed by those phantoms, he was bounced back by a tremendous force.

"How is this possible?" Bill's eyes widened in disbelief.

Wright quickly stepped forward and kicked it. He felt as if he had kicked a wall of flesh.

He immediately channeled his magic, and a spike was thrust diagonally into the illusory wall, but it was broken the moment it made contact.

The armless phantoms that were attacked laughed even more exaggeratedly.

Byron raised his hand and shot out a black beam of light. The beam struck the spirit wall, finally causing a string of phantoms to vanish with a mournful cry.

Thor, following Byron's example, also used witchcraft targeting spirits. However, his attacks on the undead were not as effective as Byron's; he could only destroy one phantom at a time.

At this moment, Thor noticed that the temperature around him had dropped sharply at some point, and he felt a chill despite wearing only a single layer of clothing and an outer robe.

"That evil spirit must be coming soon!" Wright suddenly raised his voice, his tone trembling slightly. "Only a wizard-level evil spirit can temporarily materialize these lingering remnants!"

"Stop yelling, do you think we don't know?" Bill retorted, launching an attack as well.

His poisonous fog attacks had little effect on these spirits, but as a seasoned Level 3 apprentice, Bill had also mastered several spells effective against spirits.

Wright, on the other hand, only knows the most basic attacks against necromancers, and his efficiency is just as low as Thor's.

However, just as the wall composed of lingering phantoms was about to be breached, new illusory white phantoms suddenly appeared in the surrounding mountain walls.

They, also sporting exaggerated smiles, walked to the middle of the road and formed a new wall.

The illusory wall, which had just begun to thin, suddenly became thick again.

As more and more phantoms joined from all around, the wall visibly became even thicker than before.

Thor hurriedly tried to attack the afterimages that were not part of the wall, but found that they were like illusions and could ignore his attacks.

Then the only option is to continue attacking the phantom wall that has become a physical entity.

At this moment, Thor noticed again that a layer of white frost had formed on the walls beside him and on the ground beneath his feet.

It's getting colder!

With little effect, Wright shouted in despair, "He's coming! Don't hold back!"

After saying that, he immediately unrolled a scroll and threw it at the illusory wall.

The scroll landed on the ground, instantly forming a black circular hole. Above the hole, a small vortex of wind appeared, stirring up dust from all around and spinning continuously.

Those lingering entities were as if they were dissolved, their forms stretched and twisted, and finally sucked into the black hole.

Even Thor, who was at the very back, could feel his consciousness being sucked away by the black hole.

The scroll, which I don't know what kind of witchcraft it was, was quite terrifying, but it must also be very expensive.

Wright's face was twitching, and his complexion grew increasingly pale.

Byron and Bill's magical energy surged instantly, clearly indicating that they were using second-tier sorcery.

Seeing this, Thor didn't sit idle either; he finally activated the Soul Worm spell he had been preparing for a long time.

Under the powerful and relentless attack, the illusory wall in front of them finally melted away.

The group fought their way forward, trying to speed up their journey through the phantom.

"Rip—"

As Saul took a step forward, he noticed that his shoes were showing signs of freezing.

It's even colder here.

He couldn't help but glance back, but the passage behind him remained dark and quiet.

But Thor felt an invisible pressure approaching.

Just as Wright said, he's coming.
