Chapter 130 This Way
Chapter 130 This Way
Before the frost could freeze the soles of their shoes, they finally broke through the wall made of phantoms.
Bill immediately ran out, and the others escaped before the "wall" closed again.
Thor looked up, a hint of excitement in his voice, and reminded everyone, "Go through the passage on the right, and you'll get back to the exit near the ground!"
However, just as Thor reminded them, he saw Bill, who was running in the lead, raise his left hand and say, "Watch out for the land-based boats, this way!"
Bill then turned into the left exit, and Wright and Byron followed without a word into the left cave.
Thor wanted to say that the left side was a dead end, but before he could even open his mouth, the people in front of him had already run in.
He ran to the fork in the road and paused for a moment.
Behind him was a chilling, wintery atmosphere; to his right was the exit, but it was likely lurking with people using land-based boats; to his left was a dead end…
Thor gritted his teeth and followed him into the left passage.
Perhaps Bill and his team have some way to lure the pursuing evil spirits into the passage on the right?
If people traveling by land could directly confront the evil spirits, they might be able to escape.
Thor had a lot of questions, but seeing everyone ahead of him running blindly without saying a word, he could only keep his questions to himself for now.
A few minutes later, the group arrived at the end of the passage.
A pile of boulders blocked the road ahead, and it was impossible to tell whether there was a passage beyond the boulders.
Even if they could break through the boulder, it would take them a very long time.
Thor slowly came to a stop. He was about to ask what to do next when he was shocked to find that Bill's speed had not decreased at all, and he crashed headfirst into the pile of rocks.
Then, Wright and Byron, who was carrying the unconscious Nick, also entered the boulder one by one.
Saul stopped in disbelief.
The scene before him reminded him of a scene from a classic novel.
"Could it be that one of the second-tier spells allows you to pass through walls?"
But Thor had a bad feeling.
In that novel, there's a scene where the protagonist is the one who gets left behind...
Thor reached out and touched the wall, and sure enough, it was an incredibly hard wall; his hand couldn't pass through it.
His chest heaved violently. He had already realized something, but he still took two steps back like a fool and slammed his head against the wall again.
"Bang!"
Thor's shoulder ached from the impact, and his head was covered in dirt.
He leaned against the wall, his hands and feet trembling violently with anger.
"So, this is how you lure away the evil spirits."
Puffs of white breath were exhaled with each breath of Thor's.
Intricate ice patterns began to form on the surrounding walls.
The cold seeped into Thor's body through his collar and cuffs.
"He's here."
Thor already knew what was about to happen.
As expected, the diary flew out.
Thor glanced at the contents and, as expected, it was another death.
He had considered being wary of Wright and Bill, but he never expected that Byron would so easily sacrifice him.
A fully-fledged wizard-level evil spirit, an existence Thor could not possibly defeat.
But he didn't accept his fate; if he had, Thor would have been a pile of bones long ago.
Saul glanced at the contents of the diary again, his mind racing.
The knowledge he had acquired over the years flashed before his eyes in turn.
"Fear stems from the unknown, but I am not ignorant about evil spirits."
A bold idea popped into Thor's mind.
The phantoms of soul worms danced on his arm, but their movements were no longer as lively as before due to the cold.
Thor pulled out the Spirit Armor scroll that he hadn't been able to use several times and looked in the direction the man had run from.
In the darkness, he clearly felt something approaching; there was no sound, only an increasingly chilling aura.
Thor moved his arms, the crystals on his clothes condensing and crumbling back and forth, a twisted smile appearing on his frozen face.
Clang—Clang—Clang—
The dim light began to flicker uncontrollably.
Thor looked up and saw a bluish-purple, aged figure appear at the end of the darkness.
His face was contorted in a grotesque expression, with slight twitches at the corners of his mouth and eyes. Only his upper body remained, floating in the air.
If you look closely, you'll find that his hands, nose, and even hair don't belong to the same person; it's like a jigsaw puzzle made up of the limbs of countless different people.
The figure appeared motionless, yet with each shift between light and darkness, it moved toward Thor as if by teleportation.
The old man's face was covered with wrinkles, his skin drooped downwards, and his eyes were filled with resentment and fervor.
Thor heard countless faint cries for help and wails again, as if he had traveled back to the day of the Battle of Handle Valley.
"Come on!" he roared, shattering his inner fragility and unease. He kept rehearsing the idea he had just had in his mind, and didn't even have time to check his diary to confirm the future.
The wrinkled, aged face magnified again and again in Saul's retina!
Finally, darkness descended!
……
"Wright, seal the entrance!" After everyone entered the right-hand passage, Bill quickly ordered Wright to activate the ground spikes to seal the narrow passage.
Wright turned around to cast a spell, but suddenly paused.
But he opened his mouth, said nothing, and directly recited the incantation.
As he finished chanting the incantation, the spikes crisscrossed and sealed off the narrowest part of the passage.
Byron, carrying Nick on his back, had been running for a while and was already quite exhausted. He muttered, "What are you doing? Evil spirits can vanish into nothingness at any time..."
"Thor!?" Byron suddenly turned around and looked back.
He discovered that Thor hadn't followed them in!
Since encountering the evil spirit, Byron had been casting spells at a high frequency, and his mental body was still vibrating violently, so he didn't notice when Thor behind him had disappeared.
He finally understood who those two people were trying to do by using their magic to seal the cave with earth spikes!
It's all to prevent Thor from coming out!
"Are you all crazy?"
Byron was about to rush back when he said that.
But then Bill grabbed him, his face grim, and said, "Byron, do you think you can save Thor if you go back? The three of us combined can't even fight that evil spirit."
"So you used Thor as bait?" Byron's throat split open, his sharp teeth bared outwards, like an enraged dog.
Wright didn't say anything, but awkwardly looked away.
Abandoning the weak is a common practice, but Byron and Thor had a good relationship, so he didn't initially intend to abandon Thor.
But now that Bill has intervened, Wright can no longer go back to save them.
Bill didn't want to waste any more time here. "Saul has fallen behind, which will buy us some time. If you want to go rescue people, I'm not going to go with you. Wright, let's go."
After saying that, Bill turned to leave.
"Bill," Byron closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again, his gaze now calm, "was it you who lured Thor into the other passage at the last intersection?"
Bill didn't speak, but his eyes said it all.
"I could sense no magical fluctuations just now. So, you already poisoned Thor with a hallucinogenic drug... was it when he injured his arm?"
Did you decide to abandon him so early on?
Byron had only recently been promoted to the third rank and didn't know much about Bill.
But after today, he felt that he had come to understand the true nature of the third-level apprentices.
It's just a slightly more powerful demon.
Bill chuckled, lifted his foot, and continued running, his voice echoing in the corridor, "You're overthinking it. Why would I bother with a level two apprentice?"
However, he had only taken two steps when he saw Byron suddenly rush in front of him.
Bill sneered inwardly, "Didn't he also choose to abandon Thor? Why was he wasting time pretending to be a good guy?"
