Chapter 53 Little Earth Spirit Lala

Chapter 53 Little Earth Spirit Lala

"Goddess of the Lake"

Upon hearing the name, Wayne paused for a moment before recalling the location of the house, which was only separated from Lake Vijima by a city wall. The underground river beneath the well was very likely connected to the lake outside the city.

Lake Vijma is said to be the place where the goddess of the lake performed miracles.

In this lake, there is not only the altar of the goddess of the lake, but also an underwater city inhabited by many half-fish people. Deep within the city, an evil mythical creature, the evil god Dagang, slumbers.

In The Witcher 1, Geralt of Rivia, the White Wolf, was knighted by the Lady of the Lake after helping the goddess defeat the evil god Dagon due to his noble character.

He was also bestowed with an incomparably powerful divine sword, named the Lake Maiden's Sword, also known as Arondette.

Later, Geralt lost the artifact while fighting a dragon, but in Toussaint, the Lady of the Lake appeared and returned it to Geralt, showing how much she valued him.

He believes that the White Wolf is the sword of destiny that will change the world, and that he is the only Witcher in the world who has the potential to resolve the "White Frost" crisis.

In short, she was a kind goddess who upheld the five virtues of chivalry, and many beautiful legends about her have been passed down around the world.

Wayne's mind raced, these thoughts flashing through his head.

He looked at the location of the little earth spirit and said:

"I believe in you, little one."

"My name is Wayne. Can you tell me your name?"

Hearing this question, the little earth spirit seemed a little shy, probably because not many people in the world had ever asked her name.

Starting hundreds of years ago, the number of Little Earth Spirits has been decreasing, to the point that they can even be considered an endangered species.

She was silent for a few seconds before speaking in a stammering voice:

"My name is Lala."

Wayne smiled slightly, trying to make his voice as gentle as possible, and said:

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Lala."

"I'd like to discuss something with you, is that alright?"

Seemingly sensing Wayne's friendly attitude, the spot where the little earth spirit was located shook, and Lala's figure reappeared.

With her big, watery eyes wide open, one finger in her mouth, and head tilted to the side, she asked with some confusion:

"Is there anything I can help you with, Wayne?"

The little earth spirit was indeed quite kind, Wayne thought to himself. He carefully considered his words and said:

"That's right, Lala, this house will soon become my house."

"I hope we can live in peace together."

"I'll be away from home frequently due to missions. Could you please watch the house for me then?"

Lala was taken aback by what she heard. The simple-minded little earth spirit couldn't understand Wayne's thoughts, nor did she know the wickedness of human nature.

She thought about it for a while, and then felt a little happy thinking that she would be able to stay here freely after obtaining the owner's permission.

However, remembering her father's constant admonitions, Lala still replied somewhat dejectedly:

"I really want to agree, Wayne, but my father doesn't allow us to have too much contact with humans, so I have to go back and ask him for his opinion."

This answer did not surprise Wayne. Although he wanted to make contact with these little earth spirits, build a good relationship, and see if he could gain anything unexpected.

But if Lala goes back and her father refuses to have any contact with the Witcher and forbids Lala and her brother from coming to the house again, he won't lose anything.

So Wayne nodded and said with a smile:

"It's alright, Lala, you can go back and ask your father for his opinion."

"However, you can tell your father that I am a witcher, that I have no ill intentions toward you little earth spirits, and that I have great respect for Her Majesty the Lake Goddess."

"If you can watch my house for me, I'll even pay you."

"remuneration?"

Lala tilted her head, opened her big eyes, and asked with some confusion:

"What's the reward, Wayne?"

Wayne chuckled, his tone slightly seductive, and said:

"The reward is that if you help me watch over the house, I will reward you. When you want something that only humans have, I can give it to you as a reward."

As the most curious cub, Lala is very interested in humans. When she heard that Wayne could give her something that only humans have as a reward, she was immediately tempted.

She licked her fingers, looked at Wayne with her big, watery eyes, and said:

"While I really want the kind of compensation you're talking about, Wayne, I still need to go back and ask my father first."

Wayne nodded, saying nothing more, but instead offered a warning:

"No problem, Lala, you don't need to rush to give me an answer. You're always welcome."

"However, you'd better not show up during the day before I move in, otherwise you might be in danger if other humans see you."

Lala nodded, then proudly showed Wayne the colorful conch shell on her chest, saying:

"I know, Wayne."

"However, I have a treasure bestowed upon me by the goddess, which can protect me from harm by humans."

After saying this, Lala touched the flower wreath on her head and said with some regret:

"It's getting light, Wayne, I have to go home."

"Nice to meet you."

"goodbye!"

Wayne nodded. Dawn was approaching, and he needed to return under the cover of darkness.

"See you next time, Lala."

………………

In the following days, Wayne did not rush to the city hall to handle the formalities.

Although he has basically resolved the issues in the house, if he appears too hasty, the people at the city hall are not fools, and they might take the opportunity to cause trouble and create unnecessary problems.

So he and Geralt went to the Kingfisher Inn and found the wealthy merchant Reyvaden.

Before they parted ways, this guy said he had a request that Wayne and the others needed to handle.

Now that I have some free time, I can go and see what kind of trouble he's in.

"Welcome, my friends. How are you doing in Vizima City?"

At the Kingfisher Inn, Reyvaden remained as friendly and affable as ever. He warmly embraced Wayne and Geralt, and then ordered a sumptuous lunch for them at the inn.

Although he knew this guy wasn't exactly a good person, Wayne preferred to be around intelligent people like Rewardon compared to those rude, uncouth, and ill-mannered poor folks.

The three of them sat around the table and chatted casually about some gossip in Vigima.

Seeing that the food in the kitchen hadn't been brought out yet, Wayne had an idea. He immediately pulled out a Gwent card from his pocket and smiled at Reywardon, saying:

"My friend, before we get down to business, we happen to have some time. How about we play a game of Gwent?"

Upon hearing this, Rewaden's smile froze slightly. He had personally experienced the Gwent tournament in Floating Harbor and knew Wayne's strength; how could he dare to play Gwent with him now?

So he turned his head somewhat awkwardly, just about to make up an excuse, when he suddenly noticed Geralt, whose expression was also a bit stiff. His eyes darted around, and he said:

"You're right, my friend."

"Since we have some time, why don't I play a few rounds with Geralt? You can also teach us some of your superb Gwent skills."

"I believe that someone as noble as you would not refuse my request."

Wayne probably guessed that Revarden wouldn't fight Gwent with him again, and clicked his tongue with a hint of regret, casually saying:

"I do know some Gwent techniques, but the main reason I've been able to keep winning is because Lady Luck is on my side."

"By the way, once I'm done with this busy period, how about we organize a Gwent tournament in Vizima?"

"This is a very profitable project. You know my capabilities. When the time comes, bet all your chips on me, and we can make a fortune."

Upon hearing this, Revaden's eyes immediately lit up, and he laughed heartily, saying:

"Actually, I've had this thought for a while, but I just didn't know how to bring it up with you."

"No problem. When you have time, we'll plan it out properly and make a fortune."
