Chapter 5 Geralt the White Wolf

Life in Kaer Morhen was very simple. Encouraged by the system's rewards, Wayne devoted himself to various witcher training every day.

The feeling of watching his strength gradually increase through hard work almost made him forget to eat and sleep.

This monotonous yet fulfilling life made time fly by, and almost in the blink of an eye, summer turned into early winter.

Counting the time, it has been about four months since he came into this world.

Wayne made the most of those four months. In addition to significant improvements in all his skills, he completed a regular-level training task from his mentor, Vesemir, almost every day.

Wayne (14 years old)

Occupation: Witcher

Level: 3 (63/300)

Ability value: 2 points

Attributes: Strength 15, Agility 20, Constitution 17, Spirit 20.

Skills: Swordsmanship LV2, Signs LV2, Genetic Mutation LV1.

Special Bloodline: Ancient Blood (weak, unawakened) requires 10 ability points to activate.

Additional skills: Archery LV1, Cooking LV3, Planting LV1.

Four months of hard work not only allowed Wayne to truly master the combat abilities of a Witcher, but most importantly, it also leveled up his Witcher profession by two levels.

Not only did they gain a +2 boost to all physical attributes, but they also gained two valuable ability points.

According to the system's explanation, ability points are extremely valuable. They can be used as attribute points to improve physical attributes, or as skill points to improve skill levels.

Furthermore, the system also indicates that when each skill is upgraded to the threshold level of five, ten, or fifteen, special career specialties can be unlocked using ability points.

This made Wayne very excited, and he kept his ability points to himself, waiting to use them later.

That evening, as usual, Wayne left Kaer Morhen Castle in high spirits after finishing his daily physical training.

As a member of the Great Foodie Empire, besides his daily training, his favorite thing to do was to gather wild game ingredients around the castle to add some dishes for himself and Vesemir.

The stream less than 300 meters from the castle is a pretty good spot for gathering.

As the closest water source to Kaer Morhen, Wayne not only set up several fishing traps along the river, often catching small fish and shrimp, but also cultivated a vegetable garden on a flat area not far from the river.

In his previous life, he was a boy from the countryside. Although he wasn't exactly a professional when it came to growing vegetables, he had learned quite well through years of exposure.

The old Witcher Vesemir was very surprised by his behavior and even joked that he might be the first Witcher in thousands of years to enjoy being a farmer.

However, Wayne didn't care. Medieval life was too hard, and without adding some fun to his life, the long life of a witcher would be too boring.

Just as he was carrying a few small fish with a straw rope and picking a few green vegetables from the vegetable garden, walking towards the castle.

A slightly heavy footstep suddenly entered his hearing range.

Wayne was startled, thinking that some water ghost had accidentally wandered into this place along the creek.

He quickly put down the ingredients in his hand, drew the unopened steel sword from behind his back, and assumed a demon hunter's sword attack stance in the direction from which the sound came.

At this time, Wayne had not yet officially completed his apprenticeship and did not have his own silver sword.

However, more than twenty meters away, what came into his view was not the water ghost he had expected, but a man wearing light armor from the Wolf School and carrying two swords on his back.

He was leading a dark brown horse, on which were tied some huge bundles.

The man was handsome, with a weathered air, white hair, several scars on his face, and a pair of golden, beast-like eyes.

Upon seeing Wayne, the handsome man forced a slightly stiff smile onto his usually expressionless face and said in a hoarse voice:

"Long time no see, Wayne."

However, when he saw Wayne's beastly eyes, characteristic of a witcher, he was taken aback for a moment, and then his smile became even more friendly.

"Looks like our Wolf School has gained a little witcher."

"By the way, what about the other children?"

Upon seeing the handsome witcher, Wayne recognized him instantly from his memory, with just one glance.

He is Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of the Witcher series of novels and the Witcher Games trilogy, the most legendary Witcher of the Wolf School, the Warlock Piling Machine, the King of Gwent.

However, none of these future events have occurred yet. Geralt has not even met Yennefer at this time, and Ciri, the future woman of destiny who will stir up various forces, is not even an embryo yet.

Since they were all apprentices of Vesemir, Geralt certainly knew Wayne. However, in the past, Wayne, like the other children, was too young and had not spent enough time with Geralt, so they were not very familiar with each other.

Upon hearing the white wolf inquire about the other children, Wayne immediately said with a touch of sadness:

"They didn't make it through the final trial; only I survived."

Geralt's eyes darkened upon hearing this, but he quickly recovered. He looked towards Kaer Morhen Castle, patted his mount, and said to Wayne:

"Don't dwell too much on the past, Wayne."

"This is fate's choice, and no one can change it."

"I brought back a lot of food and supplies, and I will spend the winter in the castle this year."

Let's have a big meal tonight.

Wayne didn't really remember the other children, let alone feel any sadness.

He picked up the vegetables and fish from the ground, showed them off to Geralt, and said with a smile:

"Perfect timing, it's been more than half a year since we last met, my cooking skills are now much better than before."

"Tonight, I'll show you my skills."

………………

Nighttime, Kaermohan Castle Hall.

Wayne, Vesemir, and Geralt were having dinner around a table.

Braised chicken pieces, smoked grilled fish, beef stew with potatoes and red wine, plus several kinds of fresh and tender green vegetables, filled the entire table, making it a very sumptuous dinner.

Geralt, who had been traveling for several days through mountainous terrain, swallowed the food in his mouth. His usually expressionless face unconsciously revealed a look of enjoyment, and he couldn't help but praise:

"This is the most delicious side dish I've ever eaten."

"Compared to you, those so-called pub chefs with long beards make food that's absolutely awful."

Vesemir took a leisurely sip of the ice-cold beer Geralt had brought back and remarked with a sigh:

"Yes, Geralt."

"Wayne is the most talented kid I've ever seen."

"It's not just his cooking skills; after the Grass Trial, both his magic and swordsmanship have been growing at an astonishing rate."

"I think that in a few years, he might become the strongest witcher among us."

Geralt was very surprised to hear this, as he knew very well that Vesemir was a conservative and old-fashioned man who would not lie about such things.

Unexpectedly, as the grandmaster of the Wolf School, he was so optimistic about Wayne's future development.
