Chapter 26: A Wave of Water Ghosts

Chapter 26 A Huge Wave of Water Ghosts

Upon hearing Geralt's conclusion, Wayne immediately perked up, making an inverted triangle gesture with his left hand to add another layer to his Quen sign.

According to his understanding, water ghosts are not scary, but little mist demons are quite troublesome.

Wherever there is dense fog, there may be little fog sprites; they can be found in swamps, mountain passes, and along the banks of rivers and lakes. If there is no fog, the little fog sprites can also create or summon dense fog themselves.

The dense fog is not only a hiding place for the little fog sprites, but also their weapon. They manipulate the fog to isolate travelers, making them unable to see the road or hear anything. Like fireflies, they emit a faint light to lure lost travelers to their nests in swamps, caves, or ravines.

They resemble goblins, but are even uglier monsters with sharp claws and powerful arms, which are more powerful than knives when wielded.

What's more troublesome is that they are much more intelligent than water ghosts, and they excel at deception, seduction, and bewitching people.

The little mist demons often don't even need to attack people; they just need to drive their prey crazy and into the swamp, then wait for the prey to drown in the water.

Recalling the knowledge recorded in the book, Wayne followed Geralt, following the footprints on the ground, and soon reached the end of the corridor.

It was a large gate adorned with exquisitely carved statues, and outside the gate lay complete darkness.

However, under the Witcher's dark vision, Wayne and Geralt could clearly see that outside the door was a spacious viewing platform, with an arched stone bridge nearly a hundred meters long in the center of the platform.

Even before they got close, the two could hear the faint sound of flowing water coming from under the stone bridge and platform, as well as the croaking sounds that the water ghosts made when they talked and moved.

Realizing they were getting close to the monster, the two slowed down, focused their attention, and carefully moved slowly toward the outer edge of the platform.

When they reached the edge of the platform surrounded by marble railings, a scene that sent chills down their spines unfolded before them.

Beneath the arched bridge, which stretches for hundreds of meters, lies a huge pond, resembling a viewing pool.

This place seems to have been professionally designed. The end of the pond appears to connect to a flowing underground river, with clean water constantly flowing into the pond, keeping the water level perpetually at waist height. Some ornamental plants that can survive in the dark are growing luxuriantly.

However, due to long-term neglect and the unique terrain, dozens of water ghosts of all sizes have now gathered in the pond. They seem to have made this place their nest, running around the pond with great joy and carefree abandon.

Wayne gasped in shock. Although the water ghosts weren't exactly powerful monsters, their sheer number made them a formidable opponent.

Geralt seemed to have seen it all before; his face remained expressionless. He turned to Wayne, pointed to the marble railing of the platform and the exits on either side of the platform that connected to the pond, and assumed a defensive stance.

Wayne immediately understood what he meant. The platform they were standing on was several meters above the bottom of the pond, and with the water ghost's jumping ability, it was impossible for him to climb onto the platform from any other location.

As long as the two of them hold the two narrow staircases at the edge of the platform, they can use the terrain advantage to limit the number of enemies they need to face to one or two.

He nodded to Geralt, then pointed to the stairs on the right, indicating that he would be in charge of defending the right side.

But when he actually reached that location, his heart started racing.

This was the first time he had faced so many monsters. In the past, when dealing with monsters, he rarely faced multiple enemies. It would be a lie to say he wasn't afraid, but besides fear, he felt more excited.

He stood at the entrance above the stairs, looking at the dozens of water ghosts inside the pond. After considering for a few seconds, he chose the strongest one, drew the Yakshi sign with his left hand, held his breath, and gently pushed it forward.

Deception.

An invisible wave shot out from Wayne's fingers and rushed into the brain of the strong water ghost.

Its running body immediately stopped, and after a second or two of stunned silence, it shook its head and roared angrily, raising its sharp claws and viciously slashing down at the water ghost closest to it.

With a sizzle, blood splattered everywhere.

This water ghost was incredibly strong, and its attack was so sudden that its claws pierced the belly of another water ghost, tearing open its round belly and pulling out all its internal organs.

However, the water ghost's vitality was quite amazing; even after suffering such a fatal injury, it did not die immediately.

Although it was unclear why its companion had suddenly attacked it, the violent genes lurking within it immediately compelled it to retaliate.

Without a second thought, the water ghost's sharp claws gripped the strong water ghost's neck, slicing through the flesh and blood vessels, causing a gush of blood to spray directly onto its body.

The other water ghosts surrounding the strong water ghost didn't hesitate at all. They didn't consider why their companion would suddenly attack their own, but instead swarmed forward and tore the strong water ghost into countless pieces.

Wayne was somewhat excited to have taken down two enemies in an instant. However, just as he was about to use the Axii sign again and repeat the same trick, a sharp-eyed water sprite in the pond had already spotted him.

With a roar from the water ghost, the entire pond descended into chaos. Almost all the water ghosts realized an enemy had entered their territory and charged excitedly towards its location on all fours.

However, Wayne was not fighting alone. Geralt, who was standing at the left staircase, saw that Wayne had begun to attack and followed suit by using the Axii sign, causing a water sprite that was running towards Wayne to immediately turn against its companion and attack.

Although this water ghost was instantly torn apart by the surrounding water ghosts, Geralt's actions successfully separated half of the enemies.

Even so, Wayne still saw nearly thirty water ghosts running towards his location.

If we wait until they all crowd onto the stairs and we have to use the silver sword to attack them, it will inevitably be a difficult and lengthy battle.

Perhaps, offense is the best defense.

The thought flashed through Wayne's mind. He flipped over and stood on the platform railing, reached into his waist pouch and pulled out a honeycomb bomb the size of a pineapple, which he threw towards a spot slightly in front of the center of the water ghost.

At the same time, he gathered the magic power needed to create an Igni sign and drew a sign in the air.

The instant the honeycomb bomb fell into the horde of water monsters, he thrust his right hand forward, and an orange-red flame instantly engulfed the honeycomb bomb and the water monsters around it.

A loud bang.

Enveloped in flames, the honeycomb bomb suddenly exploded, severely injuring five water ghosts around it. The shockwave from the bomb also sent more water ghosts flying, rolling around on the ground.

They successfully thwarted their frenzied, swarming momentum.
