Bring a fairy tale to Hogwarts!
Chapter 44 Unlucky Fred
Harry and Ron hurriedly left the Great Hall, intending to find a secluded spot before the first class to unpack their package and try out their flying broomsticks. However, as they passed through the foyer, their path upstairs was blocked by Crabbe and Goyle.
At the front was Malfoy, glaring at them. He immediately recognized it as a flying broom from the way Ron was clutching the package.
"You'll be punished, Potter. First-year students aren't allowed to play with this."
Malfoy spoke through gritted teeth, his tone laced with jealousy and resentment, which even Harry could detect—
Malfoy was still holding a grudge against him for what happened at the beginning of the school year.
That day, Malfoy was so startled by Harry's "accidental escape" on the train that he jumped up, bumped his head on the door, and passed out. Although the incident itself was somewhat embarrassing, it became extremely embarrassing after being edited and circulated by the students who were watching.
Marcus Flint even bluntly stated that he was not as good as those Muggle-born Mudbloods!
This fueled Malfoy's resentment, and he's been trying to find ways to cause trouble for Harry. Unfortunately, he hasn't succeeded even once so far.
Firstly, because Harry wasn't afraid of him at all.
Secondly, it's because Harry, with the one or two evil curses he learned during the summer vacation, could pin him to the ground and beat him up.
Although he successfully tricked Harry into running out for a duel in the middle of the night a couple of days ago, Filch inexplicably failed to catch them, leaving Malfoy in a weaker position in the conflict.
"Get out of here, Malfoy," Harry said. "Don't go looking for trouble. Do you want to faint again and then frame me for hitting you?"
"Come on, I don't even need to lift a finger. That broken flying broom will get you—"
"Oh, you don't know, do you, Malfoy? This isn't some old-fashioned flying broomstick," Ron couldn't help but interject. "This is a Nimbus 2000. You said you had something like a Comet 260 at home, right?"
"Comets are quite dazzling, but they're not in the same league as halos at all."
"How did you know, Weasley? You can't even afford half a broomstick," Malfoy retorted gruffly. "I bet you and your brothers had to save every last bit of money."
Before Ron could answer, Fred and George suddenly appeared from behind Malfoy.
The two of them swaggered over from the other end of the corridor, each carrying a spellbook for third grade, and then each pinned Malfoy down on one side with an imposing air.
"Are you guys arguing over here?"
Malfoy was pinned down by two third-year students and reluctantly shut his mouth.
At this moment, Fred asked in a pretentious manner, "Hey, isn't this our new team member? Harry, is that the broom that Professor McGonagall gave you with special permission?"
"The Savior is indeed special... to become the youngest Seeker in over a decade. Isn't that right, Harry?"
"Tell us how you got the broom. Professor McGonagall gave it to you, didn't she?"
Harry struggled to suppress a laugh, putting on a nonchalant expression as he said:
"It's nothing. I owe it all to Mr. Malfoy. If he hadn't insisted on taking Neville's Memory Orb, Professor McGonagall wouldn't have discovered my talent..."
The three of them took turns saying something, quickly silencing Malfoy, whose face went from flushed red to a deep purplish-red.
At that moment, he understood what was going on with Harry.
"Don't get too cocky, Potter. My dad will make the school rescind this decision; he's on the school board!"
Malfoy shook off Fred's hand and stormed off with his two henchmen, a hint of fear on his face, as if he was afraid of being beaten up by Harry and Fred.
Their rapidly departing figures stirred up a gust of wind, causing the candles beside them to bend low.
……
After he walked away, the Gryffindors who were standing there finally looked away.
"Tch," Fred scoffed, "those Malfoy brats, all they do is cause trouble."
Harry nodded in deep agreement, silently clutching the book "From Blood to Curse" in his hands, preparing to use the spells inside to give Malfoy a good beating and make him apologize to the Gryffindors for a whole day.
Ideally, it should be so disgusting that he'll never dare to cause trouble again.
However, after Harry came to his senses, he quickly noticed Fred's strange posture today, as if he were injured. All his weight was on his right leg, and his left leg was half off the ground.
Moreover, he had a small bruise on his right cheek, which made him look somewhat comical.
These features became even more noticeable when Fred turned to talk to Harry and the others.
Ron noticed it too, of course. He looked at Fred with a puzzled expression and asked:
"What happened to you? You were fine when you left the break room this morning!"
"Don't even mention it." Fred waved his hand, his face turning bitter again.
"This is where I fell next to the auditorium. I misremembered the number of steps on the spiral staircase, and I missed a step. There happened to be a puddle in front of me, which caused me to lose my balance on my other foot as well, and I tumbled all the way down the stairs..."
As he spoke, he seemed to aggravate the wound on his face, and gasped in pain.
"Hiss—the charging Gorgons!"
"I hope Mrs. Pomfrey can cure me before class."
Ron frowned. "So what were you doing at the school clinic yesterday? I think I saw you there too. No... I saw you the day before yesterday as well."
"The day before yesterday, the carriage jolted on the way back. But yesterday, I fell after fighting with Flint and the others—that guy insisted on taking our Quidditch pitch, so I said I'd play a match with them, and guess what? None of their teams beat me, haha—ouch!"
As he was speaking, Fred inexplicably tripped again, staggering forward and nearly falling. Fortunately, George reacted quickly and caught him, otherwise he would have suffered another injury.
Harry stared blankly at the two of them, instinctively offering a helping hand, but with a hint of suspicion on his face.
Isn't this just too unlucky?
...And, Ron's brother is actually this good at fighting?
Ron was even more blunt, saying, "How did you do that? Even Percy couldn't beat that many people, right?"
"Oh, never mind that. Anyway, we've already fought."
"Let's go, let's go."
After saying this, George took Fred's arm with one hand, and the two of them ran towards Mrs. Pomfrey, their steps uneven and their movements secretive. Even after they had gone some distance, a faint, indistinct sound could still be heard—
"Use less next time, I'll tell you it has side effects..."
"Oh well, I won't die anyway. If it really comes down to it, I can ask Professor Victor to reduce the effect next time..."
Harry and Ron stood there watching them walk away, staring blankly at their disappearing figures at the end of the corridor.
Something's not right.
Ron spoke Harry's mind.
……
Meanwhile, Malfoy arrived at the Potions classroom located underground.
