Chapter 238, Section 235: A Hogwarts Version of A Chinese Ghost Story?
The essence of Horcruxes is actually splitting the soul and storing it in different objects.
The way ghosts survive in the world of the living is similar to the way split souls exist in Horcruxes.
Moreover, Horcruxes, a form of dark magic that requires the killing of innocent people to be used, are far too evil. So, after Lynn's reminder, Ms. Grey also noticed something was wrong with the crown, and she said in disbelief.
"Tom Tom turned it into a Horcrux!"
Lady Grey was, after all, an ancient ghost who had lived for nearly a thousand years. Naturally, she knew about Horcruxes, a form of dark magic, and could recognize them.
"How dare he do this! He actually deceived me! He has tarnished the crown left by my mother! Outrageous! Shameless!"
Little Tom in Lynn's pocket seemed to hear someone calling him, and responded twice from inside the pocket. Lynn reached out and pressed him down, preventing him from peeking out.
"You should know who Tom Riddle is, what kind of woman he later did, and this tiara is just one of his masterpieces."
Ms. Gray was still consumed by anger at being deceived: "That's not what he promised me! He said that after he received the crown and gained superhuman wisdom, he would find a way to resurrect me and bring me back to life. He said he loved me!"
Oh open!
A Hogwarts version of A Chinese Ghost Story?
That was Lynn's first thought, but then he realized that it was impossible for Ms. Grey to fall in love with Tom.
She certainly wouldn't fall for Tom just because of his sweet talk. Tom also knew that his declaration of love was unlikely to be reciprocated. After all, no matter how foolish Ms. Grey was, she was still a nearly thousand-year-old sage and would never agree to his advances. But someone as proud as her would naturally enjoy hearing such words.
Even after becoming a ghost and nearly a thousand years having passed, she still possessed undiminished charm and would still win the love of Tom, the most outstanding young man at Hogwarts at the time. This naturally made her complacent and lowered her guard against Tom's scheming intentions.
Lynn squeezed the Tom Ball in his pocket; it was all the mess he'd made in the past.
"I know, ma'am. He was indeed so outstanding back then, and he was so good at sweet talk. It's not your fault. Anyone would be captivated by him," Lynn comforted her.
It was only then that Ms. Grey suddenly remembered what it meant for the crown to be made into a Horcrux.
"He's not dead yet!"
Ghosts themselves are colorless, so Ms. Grey's face cannot turn pale; however, to others, her terrified face appears more transparent than usual.
"He has a Horcrux, and as long as he has the Horcrux, he's immortal! We need to tell others about this quickly! Tell Dumbledore, yes! He absolutely must know!"
"Calm down, Ms. Grey." Lynn had to reassure this usually arrogant ghost who was terribly cowardly in crucial moments. Luna's assessment of her was absolutely correct on this point.
"You don't need to worry about Voldemort. He is no longer a threat. Professor Dumbledore is aware of this as well. However, in order to avoid this matter getting out and having any negative impact on the wizarding world, this matter has not been publicized."
Ms. Grey's IQ wasn't too low; she looked at Lynn warily.
"I've seen you before. You're a second-year Gryffindor witch, but your current behavior and knowledge are definitely not normal."
Lynn wasn't surprised when his anomaly was discovered. He was only using Hermione's identity to get Lady Grey to talk to him. After talking so much, she would definitely notice that something was wrong. Lynn had also prepared something to prove his identity.
He pulled a bright red feather from his pocket. It was the feather that Dumbledore had given to Fawkes to protect him in case of an accident in Sue. Now, the magic it contained had disappeared, but it could serve as proof of Lynn's identity.
"I'm sorry, for some reason I can't communicate with you using my original appearance, ma'am, but I think this should be enough to prove my identity."
Lady Grey recognized the feather in his hand as belonging to Dumbledore's pet phoenix. No one could obtain it without Dumbledore's permission, and this was enough to prove that Lynn was someone Dumbledore trusted.
Trusting Dumbledore, she lowered her guard against Lynn.
"So what do you want with this tainted crown you brought here?"
"I want to make a deal with you, Ms. Gray."
"What kind of deal?"
"I'll help you destroy this tainted crown, but you have to tell me one thing." After saying so much, Lynn finally told her his purpose.
"I've been at Hogwarts for almost a thousand years, and I certainly know a great deal of secrets, but which one do you want to know?" Lady Grey did not refuse.
Lynn looked at her seriously: "Around 1612, did any goblins build anything in Hogwarts Castle?"
Ms. Grey listened to Lynn's description without speaking immediately, instead trying to recall this distant event.
Lynn didn't disturb her and waited quietly for about ten minutes before Ms. Gray finally spoke again.
"Things that fairies built at Hogwarts?" She looked at Lynn with a strange gaze. "That was in a very ancient time; no one alive today would remember it. How did you learn about this?"
Her reply was tantamount to admitting that she knew about it, and Lynn immediately perked up.
"It doesn't matter where I know this; what matters is that I need to know where this place is."
"Does Dumbledore know about this?" Mrs. Grey's expression looked quite strange; she seemed surprised that anyone would remember this.
Lynn noticed her hesitation and assumed that she still had some concerns about her identity, so she spoke up.
"You can ask Professor Dumbledore when he returns."
He wasn't afraid that Ms. Grey would go to Dumbledore now, because the busy headmaster should be shuttling between the Knights of Merlin and the International Wizarding Federation, and wouldn't return to Hogwarts until September 21st.
"Alright, I can tell you how to find that place. As for whether you can get in or not, that's up to you." Ms. Gray finally seemed to have made up her mind and accepted Lynn's deal.
Lynn frowned: "Is there still a restriction on the entrance to that place?"
"Of course. If everyone could go in, why would the fairies have come to build it on the spot, and why do we still not know where it is?" Ms. Gray said matter-of-factly.
What she said made sense, and Lynn nodded.
"Then let's go and deal with this Horcrux first."
