Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.
Chapter 108 Fever and Hospitalization
The normal drive from Zijiang to Zhucheng takes no more than two hours, but Zhou Chenyu arrived at Su Fengnan's hotel in just one and a half hours. The night was deep, and he sped along, his speed evident.
He went to the hotel reception, using the excuse of delivering medicine to his sister. The young receptionist, seeing his handsome appearance, didn't question him further. Zhou Chenyu successfully reached Su Fengnan's room and dialed her number. The receiver rang for a long time without answering, so he patiently dialed again.
It took a long time for Su Fengnan to finally answer the phone. She was still half asleep and didn't even have the strength to get up to answer the phone. She was so bothered by the ringing that she finally managed to reach for her phone.
"Who...who is it?" Her voice was hoarse and soft, as if she had just woken up.
"It's me. Open the door, I've brought you your medicine."
"Are you... Brother Zhou, Teacher Zhou?" Su Fengnan asked groggily.
"Yes, get up and open the door to take your medicine." Zhou Chenyu's voice outside the door revealed barely concealed anxiety.
"Oh... wait a minute."
Su Fengnan got out of bed in a daze, fumbled for the light switch, and then drifted to the door like a wandering soul.
"Click".
The lock was gently opened, and the door was slowly pulled open.
Before she could even see who it was, a tall shadow loomed over her. Zhou Chenyu was dressed casually tonight, a simple T-shirt and shirt paired with jeans, exuding a nonchalant, roguish charm. Unfortunately, Su Fengnan's mind was still a mess, and she had no interest in appreciating him at all.
Zhou Chenyu, on the other hand, immediately noticed the little girl's sleepy appearance. Her long hair was disheveled and draped over her shoulders, and her face was flushed with an abnormal redness due to a fever. Her short summer pajamas could not conceal her alabaster skin and slender limbs, making her look like a flower bud waiting to be picked.
This was the first time Zhou Chenyu had seen her so unguarded. His heart skipped a beat, and an inexplicable urge to pull her into his arms surged within him.
But he quickly suppressed the pounding in his heart, his gaze suddenly darkening: "What happened to your hand?"
"Oh, I just got cut by a knife, it's nothing." Su Fengnan replied dazedly, turning around and walking back as if nothing had happened.
Zhou Chenyu closed the door behind him and followed her inside. Upon hearing the words "knife cut," his brows furrowed instantly. He placed the medicine on the table, then pulled her hand without a word, carefully examining the bandaged arm.
"How did you get cut?"
Before Su Fengnan could react, he noticed the unusual heat on her arm. He raised his hand to her forehead and found it was indeed alarmingly hot. "Your forehead is so hot, you have a fever. Come on, I'll take you to the hospital."
"Ah...no." Su Fengnan mumbled, turned around and collapsed onto the bed, wanting only to continue sleeping. The dizzy and nauseous feeling made her want to bury herself in the blankets.
Her soft resistance sounded like a coquettish plea to Zhou Chenyu.
"Su Fengnan, Su Fengnan," he called twice, then gently shook her shoulder. She only hummed incoherently twice before falling silent again.
Seeing that she was delirious with fever, Zhou Chenyu had no choice but to follow Jiang Shaoqing's instructions and find a thermometer first. Five minutes later, seeing the glaring 39.7℃ on the thermometer, he immediately picked up the bedside phone and called the front desk to explain the situation.
He took off his coat and wrapped it tightly around Su Fengnan, then picked her up and carried her straight to the hospital.
Only after she was hooked up to an IV drip in the emergency room did Zhou Chenyu's tense nerves relax slightly. That night, he stayed by her bedside without leaving her side for a moment.
The next morning, Su Fengnan finally woke up when the nurse came to change the IV drip.
"Awake? This is the last bottle. You can go home after this infusion."
"Thank you." Su Fengnan looked around but didn't see that familiar figure.
"Looking for your boyfriend? He went to the cafeteria to buy you breakfast," the nurse joked with a smile.
Su Fengnan: "..." Boyfriend? What the hell?
She did remember Zhou Chenyu bringing her medicine last night, but she was burning up with fever and didn't have the energy to argue.
"Your fever has subsided now. How are you feeling? Is there anything else that bothers you?"
Su Fengnan shook her head: "No." She raised her hand to look at the slightly deformed gauze, and said softly, "Nurse, could you please change the gauze for me?"
"OK."
The bandage had just been removed when Zhou Chenyu pushed open the door and came in. He immediately noticed the long wound on her arm, and stood silently to the side until the nurse finished disinfecting, applying medicine, and bandaging it, before whispering to the nurse, "Thank you."
The nurse smiled as she saw him return. "Your girlfriend has already thanked you. You can go home after this last bottle of IV fluids. The doctor also prescribed some medication; remember to pick it up from the pharmacy."
Su Fengnan realized the nurse had misunderstood and quickly explained, "Nurse, he's not..."
Zhou Chenyu was pleased by the word "girlfriend," and with a slight smile, he quickly replied, "Okay, I'll go get it in a bit."
As he spoke, he placed the packaged millet porridge on the bedside table, sat down, and looked at her: "Millet porridge, would you like to eat it now?"
Su Fengnan met his gaze blankly, not understanding why he had tacitly accepted the title of nurse.
"Let's eat later," she said, turning her head to look at the ceiling, somewhat embarrassed to look directly into his deep eyes.
Zhou Chenyu made a special trip and took care of her all night; his affection was too deep for her to be unaware of. Su Fengnan was no longer the naive young girl she was in her previous life. As a mature soul, she had worked for several years as a top matchmaker and relationship consultant at the largest dating website, and she knew the boundaries of appropriate interactions between men and women.
Her sixth sense told her that Zhou Chenyu was interested in her. But she was also afraid that she was just imagining things—how could a man as outstanding as Zhou Chenyu lack women if he wanted to?
Thinking about this, she felt a little irritated. In her past life, because of her parents' endless arguments, she naturally felt aversion towards handsome men. Only after experiencing two failed marriages did she realize that it was due to her inferiority complex and immature, generalized thinking.
Having been given a second chance at life, she didn't want to compromise herself again, nor did she want to repeat the same mistakes. Zhou Chenyu's looks and age were within her ideal range. If fate truly brought them together, she wouldn't rule out a new relationship. But what if…
And now is not the time to think about these things. Her thoughts were in disarray, and she could only let out a soft sigh, which seemed to be a release from the past, or a sense of powerlessness in the face of the present.
Reason told her that she could enjoy kindness, but she should never take it for granted.
"Why are you sighing at such a young age? What happened?" Zhou Chenyu had been silently observing her since the nurse left. Seeing her lost in thought, he didn't disturb her, but simply stayed by her side quietly.
Su Fengnan turned her head and looked at him with a haggard expression: "Brother Zhou...Teacher Zhou, thank you."
Zhou Chenyu had never paid attention to her way of addressing her, but hearing the words "Teacher Zhou" now sounded particularly grating.
"I prefer you to call me Brother Zhou."
Su Fengnan was stunned for a moment, her adorable blank expression almost made him laugh: "...Okay."
"The doctor said your fever is caused by shock and injury. Can you tell me what happened?" He asked gently, with a hint of coaxing.
"Last night I saw two thugs bullying a girl, and I couldn't stand it, so I helped them out." Su Fengnan said it casually, but Zhou Chenyu knew that things were not that simple, otherwise she wouldn't have gotten hurt.
"so what?"
"Brother Zhou, I just accidentally got cut by the knife in their hand. Those two were in much worse shape than me."
So Su Fengnan recounted the entire incident from the previous night, and at the end, she looked up and asked, "See? Aren't I amazing?"
