Reborn in 2006, I met Mr. Zhou from the past.
Chapter 109 Zhou Chenyu's Heartache
Upon learning the truth, Zhou Chenyu looked at the brave and kind-hearted girl in front of him and felt a pang of heartache.
"Did you call the police?"
Su Fengnan froze: "..."
Oh right, I didn't call the police. I was just focused on running away and forgot about that. But when Zhang Xinrui's brother arrived, he didn't mention calling the police either. Was it because he was concerned about his sister's reputation, or did he want to teach him a lesson in another way? She didn't dare to think about it any further.
Judging from her expression, Zhou Chenyu knew the answer.
"You can't be so impulsive anymore. Have you thought about the consequences if you encounter even worse people?"
His face darkened, and his tone became serious. The mere thought of her possibly being in danger or being bullied filled him with an uncontrollable surge of violent impulse.
Even lying in bed, Su Fengnan could feel that invisible pressure.
"I promise, it won't happen again," she said weakly.
These words instantly extinguished the anger that had just ignited in Zhou Chenyu's heart. Considering that she was still ill, he decided not to pursue the matter for the time being.
Soon, the last IV drip was finished. While Su Fengnan was eating her porridge, Zhou Chenyu went to the pharmacy to get the medicine, and when she returned, she also had a set of clothes with her.
Su Fengnan changed into the outfit, and it fit perfectly. A preppy two-piece set of shirt and vest paired with jeans, and even underwear was provided. She couldn't help but admire Zhou Chenyu's thoughtfulness, but she didn't know how to repay this favor.
While changing clothes, she specifically looked at the brand tags but couldn't find the prices. She thought she'd have to check when she got back so she could return the money to him.
"Yes, it looks great, and it suits you very well."
When she came out after changing, Zhou Chenyu praised her sincerely.
Su Fengnan blushed slightly, feeling a little embarrassed, and quickly asked, "Brother Zhou, how much are these clothes and medical expenses? I'll pay you back later."
"No rush, we'll talk about it when we get back." He paused, then asked, "Have you finished your business? Would you like to come back to Zijiang with me?"
Su Fengnan thought about it and realized that since her illness had disrupted her plans, the shop renovations would have to be postponed until the National Day holiday, which was only a few days away.
"Okay. I still have some things at the hotel, so I'll check out first before I leave."
Before leaving, the doctor gave them another check-up and some more instructions before the two of them took a taxi back to the hotel.
Su Fengnan really wanted to take a shower, but she knew she couldn't now, as she might catch a cold, and she couldn't get her arms wet either, so she just dried herself off with a towel. By the time she finished washing up and came out of the bathroom, Zhou Chenyu had already helped her pack her luggage.
"Brother Zhou, thank you for your trouble."
"Why are you being so polite with me? Check again to make sure you haven't forgotten anything."
Su Fengnan glanced around the room, making sure everything in her bag was there, and said, "Let's go."
"You're a patient, give me the bag."
Su Fengnan didn't refuse again. Zhou Chenyu carried her bag, and the two checked out at the front desk before heading to the parking lot to drive back to Zijiang.
Inside the car, Su Fengnan sat listlessly, lost in thought, still pondering the matter of the spatial dimension. She remembered—it wasn't a dream. Once she got home, she would definitely try it out.
Seeing that she was in a daze, Zhou Chenyu didn't disturb her. He took out a CD and played some soothing music.
Listening to music, Su Fengnan drifted off to sleep again.
Before even reaching the highway, Zhou Chenyu found a spot to park. Since there was no thin blanket in the car, he took off his coat and covered her before restarting the engine. Compared to the way there, he slowed down considerably and drove extremely steadily, afraid of waking her.
At the Zijiang County racetrack, today was the decisive day. Mu Yang's mood, however, shifted from cloudy to gloomy, much like the weather. He made countless calls to Zhou Chenyu, but no one answered, and he was so angry he almost smashed his phone.
Since last night, Zhou Chenyu's phone has been on silent, and he hasn't answered any calls.
Halfway through the journey, seeing the little girl sleeping soundly, Zhou Chenyu parked the car on the widened road, got out to make four or five phone calls, and then returned to the car.
When Mu Yang received the call, he was so happy he almost cried: "Brother! I thought you ran away and abandoned me!"
"Don't worry, it won't cause any problems. The final stage uses a reverse start rule, so I should be able to make it."
"Okay, okay, then hurry up and come over!"
After hanging up the phone and returning to her car, Su Fengnan seemed to wake up as if sensing something. She rubbed her eyes: "Brother Zhou, have we arrived?"
"No, I just got out of the car to return a call. Did I disturb you?"
Seeing that she had just woken up, her expression was still a little dazed, and her voice was soft, Zhou Chenyu smiled, his eyes full of undisguised doting affection.
The car continued on the highway. After a nap, Su Fengnan felt a little better, but she still stared blankly ahead in silence.
Zhou Chenyu was unaccustomed to her silence and could clearly sense her low spirits. He turned to look at her and asked, "What are you thinking about?"
"I'm wondering why time is passing so slowly."
"Hmm, is that so?" Zhou Chenyu gave her another meaningful look.
In that brief exchange, Su Fengnan suddenly realized—how could she have blurted out her true feelings? She'd lost face big time.
"I...I just...I just..." She was speechless for a moment, not knowing how to explain.
"You don't want to be with me?" His tone was devoid of any emotion.
"No." Su Fengnan turned her head to look at him, her face innocent. "Brother Zhou, don't overthink it."
After a long while, he still hadn't received an explanation from her. Zhou Chenyu glanced at her again and saw her leaning against the back of her chair, looking dejected and lost in thought. He couldn't hold on for even a second longer and collapsed.
"You seem restless; what's wrong?"
"Sigh... I wanted to open a dessert shop. I found a shop and was supposed to go find someone to do the renovations today. But I got a fever last night, so now I can only wait until National Day to look for a shop." Su Fengnan felt aggrieved just thinking about it.
"You went to Tsukicheng just to find shops?"
Su Fengnan nodded: "Yeah, that's why time seems to be passing so slowly." After saying that, she glanced at him cautiously.
She thought to herself, there's really nothing she can't say. Not saying anything might just lead to misunderstandings; she's not one to enjoy guessing what people are thinking. The more people know, the more advice they might get.
Zhou Chenyu caught a glimpse of her cautious demeanor out of the corner of her eye and almost broke down. However, she still needed to clarify what she was doing.
"The dessert shop market is not yet saturated, and the prospects are good."
"Yes, people's living standards have improved now. After satisfying their basic needs, they start to pursue a quality life. Of the four basic necessities of life—food, clothing, housing, and transportation—food comes first. Who can resist delicious food? A few years ago, desserts like cakes were only available on special holidays. Now, whether it's for everyday leisure or social gatherings, desserts are an indispensable part, giving people a sense of happiness." As she said this, Su Fengnan's expression seemed to indicate that she really wanted to take a bite.
Zhou Chenyu turned her head and saw this scene, her expression softening even more. The little girl had clearly done her homework to think of this: "You really like desserts?"
"Yes, that's the top choice for emotional comfort."
Seeing that she had her own ideas, Zhou Chenyu also wanted to hear her specific plans: "Since you've decided to open a store, have you carefully considered the location, product positioning, cost control, and marketing promotion? These are all key factors affecting profits."
Su Fengnan glanced back at the bag on the back seat and replied, "I have thought about it. I've written a simple business plan for the dessert shop. Brother Zhou, if you have time, could you take a look and give me some feedback? I'd like to open the shop within a month."
Zhou Chenyu felt that she was very serious about this matter, and after thinking for a moment, she said, "Then let's do it tomorrow at noon. Don't cook lunch, your hand is still injured. I'll treat you, we can eat and chat."
