Slow to mature after marriage
Chapter 35 The Forensic Doctor
Bo Yan tossed his phone onto the seat, leaned back, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
My temples are throbbing.
He was so angry he laughed.
Having lived for over twenty years and seen all sorts of strange and powerful figures at the negotiating table, he was still speechless for a long time after being choked by his own wife's words.
Did he bring her tea to refresh her?
Does it mean she should smile at other men?
Should we make her finish drinking it and then come back to thank us in a serious manner?
Bo Yan closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
Mu Siwan...
What exactly is her brain made of?
He opened his eyes, picked up his phone again, and opened the chat window.
The last message was also a period from him.
Bo Yan stared at the period for a few seconds, then suddenly felt rather uninteresting.
Why get angry at a human?
Neon lights flashed by outside the window, and the car was so quiet that only his own breathing could be heard.
Forget it.
Go home and sleep.
There's another meeting tomorrow.
-
Mu Siwan put her phone away and glanced down at the two unfinished pots of tea on the table.
She waved to the waiter.
"Could you please pack these two pots for me?"
Xiao Qin's eyes widened: "Master, you're packing it up too?"
"Hmm." Mu Siwan nodded. "It would be a waste to throw it away."
Xiao Qin thought for a moment and nodded.
"Too."
Meng Qing sat opposite her, watching her pack the food carefully, and frowned imperceptibly.
-
In the afternoon, at the identification center.
Mu Siwan returned to her workstation, put the two pots of tea on the table, and continued processing the bones she had brought back that morning.
Xiao Qin leaned closer, smelled the aroma of the tea, and then withdrew.
"Master, you actually brought it back..."
Mu Siwan didn't look up, but simply hummed in agreement.
Xiao Qin leaned over and glanced at the two pots of tea on her table, looking rather worried.
"You've drunk so much, you probably won't be able to sleep tonight, will you?"
Mu Siwan stared at the documents in her hand and sighed.
"I probably won't be able to sleep tonight."
She glanced at the time, then flipped through the reports in her hands. The pressure was mounting; preliminary findings were due first thing tomorrow morning. The remaining workload would keep her up until dawn.
She picked up her phone and sent a message to Bo Yan.
[Mu Siwan]: I'm staying up all night tonight and not going back.
The reply came very quickly.
【Bo Yan】::
Just one period.
Mu Siwan stared at the period for two seconds, assuming it meant "I understand," and didn't pay much attention. She put her phone face down on the table and continued flipping through the documents.
-
On the other end, Bo Yan leaned back on the sofa, staring at that period for a long time.
overnight.
I'm not going back.
That's it? Nothing else?
He tossed his phone aside, got up, and went to the refrigerator to get a can of chilled oolong tea.
Water droplets condensed on the jar, giving it a refreshing coolness.
Bo Yan stared at the tea can for a few seconds, then put it back.
Screw it.
Who wants some tea?
Returning to the living room empty-handed, Bo Yan sat down on the sofa and picked up his phone again.
The screen lit up, but the dialog box was still stuck on the period.
No new messages.
He placed his phone face down on his lap and leaned back into the sofa.
Grace sat cross-legged at his feet and looked up at him.
Bo Yan met its gaze.
"What are you looking at?"
Grace flicked her tongue, looking completely innocent.
Bo Yan stared at the snake and suddenly spoke.
"Are you a cold-blooded animal, or is Mu Siwan one?"
Grace ignored him and buried her head back into her body.
Bo Yan leaned back on the sofa, staring at the ceiling.
It was just past eight o'clock; the night was still long.
He was so angry at Mu Siwan's cunning that he couldn't sleep.
-
At one o'clock in the morning, Xiao Qin couldn't stay awake any longer and lay on the table with her eyelids drooping.
Mu Siwan glanced at her.
"Go back to sleep first."
Xiao Qin struggled to sit up.
"Master, are you sure you can manage alone?"
"Um."
Xiao Qin hesitated for a moment, then packed her things and left. Before leaving, she glanced back; Mu Siwan was already buried in her documents, not even looking up.
She admired her master from the bottom of her heart: her master was indeed a workaholic.
The laboratory fell silent, with only the soft hum of the fluorescent lights remaining.
Mu Siwan continued flipping through the documents, occasionally jotting down notes in her notebook. Time passed slowly, and when she looked up at the clock again, it was almost three o'clock.
She rubbed her eyes wearily, finished the last sip of tea, and glanced at her phone.
Three missed calls are displayed on the screen.
They are all thin inkstones.
From 1:30 to 2:30, one every half hour.
She hesitated for a moment, unsure if he was asleep at this hour, but still called him back.
The phone rang once and then connected.
After the call connected, no one spoke on the other end.
The night is already deep.
Mu Siwan took the initiative to speak.
"A thin inkstone?"
A soft "hmm" came from the other end, the voice low and unreadable.
"What's wrong? Is something the matter?"
There was a pause on the other end.
"It's nothing," he said. "I was just worried you might have a stroke, so I called to check on you."
Mu Siwan was stunned, then answered seriously.
"No. According to current data, the probability of sudden death from staying up all night is about 0.003%, and my heart rate is currently normal, with no symptoms such as chest tightness or dizziness—"
"Alright, alright," Bo Yan interrupted her, a hint of amusement in his voice. "Understood, forensic pathologist."
He asked her, "Have you finished your work?"
"I'm going to stay up all night," she said. "I probably won't be able to go home tonight."
Bo Yan hummed in agreement.
There was a loud bang on the other end of the phone, followed by the sound of a car door closing.
Mu Siwan was stunned.
Where are you now? Haven't you gone home yet?
There was no response, followed by a soft sigh.
"Your forensic center is quite large." Bo Yan's voice was lazy, with a hint of amusement. "I searched for ages but couldn't find the forensic room."
Mu Siwan tightened her grip on her phone.
"...You've come."
"Um."
She opened her mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know what to say.
The phone hangs up.
Footsteps approached from afar in the corridor.
The door was pushed open.
Bo Yan stood at the door, still wearing the same dark gray shirt he'd worn during the day, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, carrying a thermos in his hand. The white light from the lab shone on his face, revealing a hint of weariness in his eyes, yet also an inexplicable air of nonchalance.
He leaned against the doorframe, watching her.
Mu Siwan blinked very slowly: "Why...did you come here so suddenly?"
"Didn't I just say that?" Bo Yan walked in and put the insulated food container on the table. "I'm afraid you'll die suddenly, but I'm even more afraid you'll starve to death."
Mu Siwan replied subconsciously.
"Theoretically, the chances of me starving to death are far lower than..."
He didn't finish speaking.
She looked up and met the man's mocking yet helpless gaze.
He swallowed his words.
She lowered her head.
"Thanks."
-
Mu Siwan opened the insulated box, and the aroma of the food immediately filled the air.
Braised pork belly, stir-fried seasonal vegetables, sweet and sour pork ribs, and a bowl of steaming chicken soup. Three dishes and a soup, neatly arranged.
She picked up her chopsticks, about to eat, when she suddenly remembered something and looked up at him.
Have you eaten yet?
Bo Yan leaned against the edge of the lab bench, arms crossed.
"Let me remind you, it's 3 a.m. Beijing time, Mrs. Bo."
Mu Siwan was stunned for a moment.
She looked down at the bowl of rice, then looked up at him, unsure.
"and you……"
"I'm not hungry," he interrupted her, gesturing with his chin towards the bowl. "Eat yours."
Mu Siwan looked at him but didn't move.
Bo Yan met her gaze and raised an eyebrow.
"Do you want me to feed you?"
She looked away and began to eat.
