Chapter 41 The Power of Wizards
Maximus and Alistair arrived in Ortham early and set up numerous reconnaissance spells within the city, all in an effort to find Via's legacy as soon as possible.
When the necromancer unleashed his magic, and countless undead attacked the town, Maximus and Alistair realized that it was an attack launched by foreign wizards.
"Is this thing really that important? Why is everyone crowding around trying to fight over that monster?"
Maximus had always had this question in his mind, but after witnessing the existence of the monster Via with his own eyes, his doubts completely disappeared.
Viya the Monster is a miracle.
Draco Gresley's specialty is summoning, teleportation, and magic circles. Unlike what other wizards typically understand, this specialty is unexpectedly adept at biological modification.
How to reduce the cost of summoning, how to minimize the losses from teleportation, and how to maximize the effect of spells on the bodies of creatures—while optimizing the spells themselves, to achieve the best results, it's natural to modify the targets on which the spells are cast.
A significant portion of Drak's students are experts in the field of biology, while Maximus is not particularly outstanding in either biology or pure magic, whereas Alistair, standing next to him, is an expert who excels in both.
However, even with Maximus's limited knowledge, he understood the significance of Viya's monster when he saw it.
A perfect human form, physical abilities far exceeding those of humans, and almost invisible signs of modification and stitching.
From the outside, it is a perfect artificial human, and it has not broken down even after wandering outside for so long, which can be guaranteed in terms of quality.
If one can master this technology and mass-produce them, they will become perfect close-combat guards, experimental subjects, and summoned beasts.
With just such a creation, one can be comparable to a leader like Alistair.
Maximus suddenly realized he understood why Alistair killed Via—not just to clean house, but also out of jealousy, which was perfectly normal among wizards.
It's even more normal for Maximus to only bring himself now.
Maximus turned his head and saw the seriousness and difference on Alistair's face.
"Alistair, this shouldn't be your first time fighting this guy. Is there anything I should be careful about?"
"Her speed and reaction time are quite fast, and her attack power is great; she can break through magical shields and dimensional shields."
"So, you used Shadow Projection earlier?"
You can understand it that way.
"It seems the magical shields we cast on the road weren't enough to protect us. And what's with these two guys? One's a mercenary, the other's an ordinary person."
Alistair gestured for Vimaximus to step back, suggesting that such an important matter as communication should be left to someone of higher status like himself.
"Are you two the guardians of this monster?"
At this moment, Helena and Ether had already blocked the way in front of the monster Viya, and the monster Viya, who was ready to launch an attack, did not continue to attack.
However, the threatening expression on Viya's monster face did not diminish.
"No, we are not guardians, but we will not let you take action so easily."
"Hmm, interesting. You're going to protect this monster?"
"This isn't about covering it up. She should be punished in front of the family of the person she killed, not taken away by some unknown sorcerer. Who knows what you're up to!"
Alistair calculated that if he cast an attack spell now, he could release one before Viya's monster charged at him. However, the problem was that with these two humans blocking Viya's monster, the power of the spell would be weakened. In that case, given the monster's defensive capabilities, there would be no way to kill it completely.
An arc of magic appeared on his finger, drawing a name in the air.
Maximus, who was behind him, immediately understood and quickly began to cast a spell.
"What are you doing!"
Helena stepped forward, knowing full well that it was unrealistic to fight a wizard with her laughable strength.
If the wizard really wanted to attack, she could only retreat with Ether, as for Viya's monster.
She's already done more than enough by standing in front of Viya's monster.
"Aisera, you just said that our mercenaries can't defeat Via's monster, and that did convince me. But these two wizards in front of us might not be so formidable. If anything goes wrong, you run away immediately, understand?"
"I understand, Sister Helena."
"Don't let anything happen to you here. If anything happens to you, I won't be able to explain it to Vitas."
"This has nothing to do with Vitas... So you wouldn't have saved me if it weren't for Vitas?"
Seeing Ether's blinking eyes, Helena stepped back slightly.
"Damn it, how do I stop the wizard from casting a spell?!"
Helena had absolutely no experience fighting wizards. Although in theory warriors and wizards need to fight at close range, she looked at the distance of more than ten meters in front of her and knew that it was not something she could easily cross.
What if a wizard casts a spell while you're attacking? It's said that experienced warriors can recognize a wizard's spells by seeing their posture and hearing their chanting, and then react accordingly.
But Helena doesn't have that kind of experience!
Furthermore, the seemingly powerful wizard in front was holding a staff but not casting any spells, so he must be preparing for something evil.
Ethera knew absolutely nothing about combat and was of no help whatsoever.
However, both of them overlooked the most important variable.
The monster Viya doesn't have the same sophisticated thinking as these warriors.
She placed her hand on Helena's shoulder and pushed her away.
"Huh?"
Helena instinctively stepped aside. So, the monster Viya could distinguish between friend and foe?
After Helena and Viya maintained a safe distance, she rushed out instantly.
Helena then learned about the cooperation between wizards.
Almost simultaneously with the monster Via charging out, the wizard at the front waved his staff, and a moment later, lightning appeared at the top of the staff.
The next second, a bolt of lightning appeared with a chilling sound.
Given the speed of lightning, aiming is unnecessary; you only need to aim at the enemy the instant the lightning strikes to hit them.
Unfortunately, Alistair missed.
The exaggerated thunder roared loudly, startling Aysera so much that she crouched on the ground and covered her head.
Alistair hadn't expected that he would miss.
Honestly, the most absurd thing is that no one expected it. Basically, the more powerful a wizard is, the worse their physical condition is. But the more powerful a wizard is, the more they are blinded by the powerful magical power they possess, mistakenly believing that they also have such powerful physical strength.
Fortunately, Maximus finally completed his spell.
Zarastir Mage Shield!
There are two standards for the casting location of this spell: one is centered on the mage himself, and the other is a designated center location.
Maximus originally intended to use this magical shield to trap Helena and Ether, which was also Alistair's idea—to reduce variables in a wizard's battle.
But he decided to take the risk.
More than two hundred hexagonal shields landed around Viya's monster, trapping her just as she was about to break out of the shield's range.
Alistair was stunned, staring at Maximus in disbelief.
"I'm telling you to cast Cordrar's Shadow Entanglement!"
"what?"
The general sketches of these two spells are indeed similar, but mistaking one for the other is a mistake made by beginners.
