Witch Hunter Rhapsody
Chapter 20 Siege
It was just dawn.
The Flying Eagle Knights had already arrived outside Guros's lair.
This is beside a lake, where intelligent creatures like the Guros have built their nests around the lake, some resembling enlarged bird nests, and somewhat similar to human architecture.
Vitas judged that these ancient creatures had been living here for decades, and their nests by the lake were already taking shape.
"Shall we go in?"
"No, we can't operate freely inside. We'll use fire."
Vitas's voice sounded a little strange, but Helena only glanced at him a little longer and didn't say anything more.
"It won't light! It's too damp around here!"
Helena was surprised. How could Vitas make such a mistake?
She looked at Vitas with some concern.
Vitas stood as straight as ever, his longsword gripping his hand.
"Then let's attack, using the tactics I explained earlier."
Vitas instructed the Flying Eagle Knights to divide into three groups according to their advancing ranks, each group engaging Guros in battle. During the battle, they were to take turns, remain vigilant against attacks from other beasts, and allow each other ample rest time.
The main strategy during the battle is to delay, as the weapons in the hands of the Flying Eagle Knights may not be able to break through Guros's defenses.
However, as long as they can delay, that's enough. The Guros are huge, and there are many obstacles around them. The longer the time is dragged out, the more advantageous it will be for the mercenaries.
This is a hunt, not a war.
"We mustn't rush things, or we'll run into problems and ruin everything. Now, let's attack."
As they were talking, one of the ancient creatures went out to get a drink of water.
This ferocious beast was over two meters tall when standing, with its four enormous legs squeezed together at the base of its thighs and six arms encircling its torso, dangling around it.
It has no clear head, resembling a human who has lost his neck and head, replaced instead by a gaping maw at the top.
It bent down to drink water, a sight that sent chills down one's spine.
"Finally, a reminder: Guros's attack methods are limited, so don't get caught and dodge its sharp teeth."
Vitas was in excruciating pain.
Since I released the scouts earlier, I haven't canceled them, and the scouts have already obtained most of the information about the surrounding area.
In critical moments, amidst chaos, they can still step in to help you.
Scouts skilled in stealth are adept at assassination.
Vitas took a deep breath.
"bring it on."
He gripped the sword with both hands and walked toward Guros.
The ferocious creatures sensed Vitas's approach, and the Flying Eagle Knights cautiously moved closer as well.
They always followed Vitas, maintaining a considerable distance.
"Come on, you beasts."
But Guros merely raised his head from beside the pool, opened his mouth, and countless tentacles extended from it, as if looking at Vitas.
Then it withdrew itself, as if it were not an enemy.
Vitas continued forward until he reached Guros, at which point Guros finally began to make a move.
It made way.
Perhaps they thought Vitas was too powerful, perhaps they thought Vitas was just coming to drink water, or perhaps they thought there was no need for a fight—even beasts could make such judgments.
Vitas raised his sword, and the moment he did, the ancient beast roared and then lashed out at Vitas with its arm.
At the same time, several Guros rushed out of the nest, and Leon knew it was time to make his move!
"Flying Eagle Knights, strike!"
"charge!"
Vitas's reflexes and strength surpass those of ordinary people; this is a talent bestowed upon him by his family's bloodline.
Vitas dodged Guros's limb movements.
His reaction speed was now faster because the physical pain gave him even greater strength.
"Die!"
He swung his sword in a fit of rage, for only such a battle could alleviate some of his pain.
Vitas's sword remained sharp, severing Guros's arm in an instant, before swinging it towards his torso.
Thick hair and rough skin helped to barely block Vitas's blade.
Then it bit Vitas, who could already see the tentacles in its mouth, so he released his sword and grabbed Guros's big mouth with both hands.
"It seems your strength isn't as great as the rumors say."
Vitas smiled contemptuously, then used both hands to forcefully tear apart its upper and lower jaws.
Blood splattered, and Vitas felt the pain in his body disappear completely in an instant.
He couldn't help but burst into laughter.
"Ha ha ha ha."
Guros was not dead yet. Its exposed tentacles stretched out, and Vitas grabbed them without hesitation. The thousands of tentacles in his hand were twisted together and were not easy to break.
Vitas began to retreat, and with a "plop" sound, the strangely shaped internal organs inside Guros were ripped out, and the stench could be smelled even through the helmet.
"My god, Vitas is much more terrifying than these ancient lores."
"Keep your voice down."
Helena, while directing her subordinates to fight against these ferocious beasts, couldn't help but glance at them a few more times.
Such grandeur is truly admirable.
"Francis, retreat!"
The Flying Eagle Knights were not in the same comfortable position as Vitas. They did not have Vitas' strength and defensive capabilities, and could only rely on their own reflexes and endurance to evade.
The size and combat experience of the Guros that appeared varied, and Francis unfortunately faced one that was taller than the others.
He tried to dodge and seized opportunities to counterattack during gaps in Guros's attacks, but even the new short sword couldn't pierce its fur.
Unable to dodge in time, Francis was sent flying and crashed heavily to the ground.
"Don't lose formation, Dorothy, the three of you go protect Francis!"
Helena drew her sword and rushed forward to block the gap, standing in front of Guros.
Only when standing in front of such a monster can one feel the terror of its six arms, which are nearly two meters long and can be folded like a three-section staff.
"Come on, Helena Marlowe is going to kill you today!"
Guros roared and charged forward. Helena turned to dodge, but she couldn't pierce through him either.
Oops.
Ultimately, the sword in my hand wasn't long enough or sharp enough; I shouldn't have charged forward.
Look at those spearmen, several of them working together to pierce, they have already left wounds on another Guros.
If the cycle continues and there is enough time, all these monsters will be killed.
Helena reacted swiftly, grabbing one of Guros's hands and then stabbing it in with all her might.
Guros swayed wildly in pain, and Helena quickly let go. He rolled several times on the ground before regaining his balance.
Enraged, Guros charged at Helena, who reacted swiftly, running towards Vitas.
She didn't intend to lead Vitas into danger; it was just that rather than taking this dangerous monster further away from the Flying Eagle Knights, it was better to bring him to Vitas's side.
Vitas was currently fighting another Guros.
He managed to spare a portion of his attention to observe his surroundings, which was quite difficult while enduring the pain.
"Helena! What are you doing?"
"Vitas, I'm sorry!"
Helena's path was blocked by Vitas and his enemies. Helena turned around, drew her sword, and stood back to back with Vitas.
"Was it the right decision to stay here so that my band members wouldn't get hurt?"
"It's correct in terms of quantity."
Vitas stabbed his enemy in front of him with his sword, then slashed upwards, leaving a large gash.
Helena was very excited.
Indeed, meeting Vitas was the right decision. An enemy I had never seen before, an adventure I had never experienced, and a battle like this.
All of this was my dream!
Even if I die here, just like in those legendary stories, I will have no regrets!
"bring it on!"
No sooner had Helena uttered those bold words than she felt a powerful force push her away.
It was Vitas! Vitas pushed Helena away!
"It's really in the way."
Vitas said, pointing his longsword at Helena's Guros.
"Come on, you beast."
Vitas began his charge.
