Curse Return: Demon Void Girl Doesn't Want to Be a Weakling
Chapter 98 The Trial Begins
Late at night, in the high-level meeting room.
Mashiro pushed open the door and led Kokichi into the now empty room.
The long table, which was originally full of people, is now empty on both sides, with only four people remaining.
Leyan Temple sat in the main seat, his cane resting on the armrest. Night Moth sat to his right, several documents spread out in front of him.
Gojo Satoru leaned back in a chair at the end of the long table, his legs propped up on the table, twirling a pen with the cap off in his hand.
Wasn't it supposed to be four people?
The last spot, of course, belongs to her.
"You stay here," Mashiro said to Kokichi.
Then, to Kokichi's astonishment, she walked over to Gojo Satoru and sat down against the wall, her wings obscuring her eyes and making her expression unreadable.
Kokichi and I stood at the other end of the long table, the lamplight casting our shadows on the ground.
He stood there, stunned, looking at the four people sitting in front of him, with his principal at the head of the table.
Because Leyan Temple deliberately controlled the flow of information, most people were unaware of what had happened and thought it was the same as usual.
Kokichi was one of them, and now he didn't know how to react.
Are they high-ranking officials? What about those who came before?
Could it be that they were all...?
He dared not think any further; the sky over the world of sorcery was ultimately dark...
No, these all seem to be people he knows. Could it be that it's dawn?
Kokichi stood there, bewildered and uncertain. On the seat, Yama coughed twice and pulled out a document from the pile in front of him—Kokichi's information.
"Yuko, a second-year student at the Kyoto Prefectural High School of Curses." Nightmoth read the contents of the paper, her tone steady, "Bound by a curse, his body is incomplete."
Having read this far, he glanced at Yukichi, who was now in good health, and remained silent for a while before speaking again.
"How much information have you provided to curse masters and spirit mediums in the past three months?"
After a moment of silence, Kokichi slowly spoke.
"There are many, too many to count," Yukichi said. "I can provide some information almost every time they ask me."
He paused, his Adam's apple bobbing.
"The most recent one was the distribution of participants at the exchange meeting."
Moth put down the paper and tapped her fingers lightly twice on the table.
Leyan Temple didn't say a word from the beginning; he just quietly watched his students.
"Do you know what the consequences of this intelligence have been?" Moth's voice deepened, carrying a sense of oppression.
"I know," Yukichi said. "During the exchange meeting, a special-grade cursed spirit invaded, and the cursed artifacts were stolen."
"But you did it anyway."
"But I did it anyway."
"Why?" Leyan Temple finally spoke, his voice a little hoarse, seemingly carrying a hint of disappointment.
Kokichi lowered his head, looking at his fists that had become clenched without him even realizing it.
"My body is completely broken." He tried to remain calm, but he still trembled in front of his mentor. "If I could be restored to normal, I would do anything for it."
He let go of his hand.
"A curse master with stitches on his forehead came to me and said he could cure me on the condition that I become his mole at the college."
"You agreed?" Leyan Temple said.
"Yes." Kokichi looked up, his eyes unwavering. "Just like I said, I didn't hesitate."
The council chamber remained quiet for a long time, with only the hum of the air conditioner and the sound of Gojo Satoru spinning his pen remaining.
"Yoshikichi, do you know what this is called?" Rakuganji stared into his eyes.
"I know, it's betrayal."
"According to the rules of sorcery, colluding with curse masters, leaking mission information, and so on," Leyan Temple glanced at Nightmoth, whose fingers tapped lightly on the table, "each one of these is enough to sentence you to death."
Kokichi didn't speak; he knew these were all unforgivable sins.
"Do you have anything to say?"
"have."
"explain."
"I know I betrayed the college, I betrayed everyone who trusted me, and the death penalty is enough." He raised his eyes and looked at the four people across the long table in turn. "But I ask for a chance."
"What opportunity?" Leyan Temple asked.
"You'll be dealing with that guy next." Kokichi recounted all the information he knew. "He'll make his move in a crowded place, but we don't know exactly where."
"His top-tier cursed spirits include real beings whose techniques are called 'Wuwei Transformation,' capable of directly altering the soul. There's also Louhu, a curse from a volcano..."
"I can cover the entire Shibuya area, monitor the fluctuations of magical energy in real time, and synchronize all communications. I still have value."
He paused, his throat dry, "Let me use this to make amends."
He spoke quickly, as if these words had been weighing on his mind for far too long.
He took a deep breath and revealed the last piece of bombshell news he knew.
"And they also plan to seal away Gojo Satoru."
Upon hearing this, almost everyone in the council chamber looked at Gojo Satoru.
Gojo Satoru stopped twirling his pen. He turned his head, revealing half an eye above his sunglasses. That look sent a chill down Kokichi's spine.
"Seal me off?" Gojo Satoru's tone was nonchalant, as if he had heard a joke. "Then they had some foresight, knowing that I was invincible."
The moth shook its head and continued, "Then do you know how they sealed it?"
Yukichi shook his head: "I don't know the specifics, they won't let me access the core plan."
Leyan Temple's cane struck the ground heavily, drawing everyone's attention back to the temple.
"With Kokichi," he said slowly, "every piece of information you provide will be verified afterward, and if even a single word is false..."
"There's no lie." Yukichi interrupted him, somewhat agitated, then realized what he'd done and lowered his head. "I'm sorry, I can promise you, there's absolutely no lie."
Leyan Temple stared at him for a long time, looking at the student, and suddenly asked him, "What makes you so determined to live?"
"Because I'm not willing to accept it."
Kokichi's voice was very soft. He raised his head and looked at Rakuganji.
"Principal, I don't want to die, not because I'm afraid of death, but because I'm unwilling to accept it. I finally have a healthy body, and I want to be with everyone..."
Leyan Temple fell silent and did not continue.
After a long pause, he looked at Mashiro and Gojo Satoru: "What are your opinions?"
Leyan Temple knew perfectly well that their questions were useless; the specifics of what to do depended on the two people sitting next to them.
"He's already confessed everything, so let's give him a chance," Mashiro said. "The great battle is just around the corner, so every bit of strength we can muster is crucial."
"Mashiro can decide for now."
Noctua and Leyan Temple exchanged a glance.
"To Yuukichi." Rakanji stood up, leaning on his cane, and walked up to Yuukichi. "Your sorcerer qualification is frozen, and your weapons are confiscated."
"You are prohibited from entering the high-level listening room during the mission. Communications command will be directly supervised by Ijichi. Every word you say will be recorded and every piece of intelligence will be cross-verified."
As Yukichi looked at the teacher in front of him, a warmth gradually appeared in his eyes.
He blinked quickly and said softly, "I understand..."
"Then show me."
Kokichi bowed his head deeply, maintaining this posture until Rakanji's cane struck the ground.
"Go out and report to Ijichi."
Kokichi straightened up, took two steps back, and then bowed to Yagami, Mashiro, and Gojo Satoru.
Gojo Satoru smiled slightly and waved his hand, telling him to hurry up and leave.
He stopped at the door, placed his hand on the doorknob, and spoke after a few seconds.
"headmaster."
Leyan Temple did not turn back.
"Thank you."
