When a brown bear disappears into the woods, it can still manage to weave through the tree trunks with its agile body. The large bird, however, doesn't need to be agile. It simply crashes into them.
Those trees, thicker than an adult's waist, were like paper in front of it... When it crashed into them, the trunks snapped in half, the crowns collapsed with a thud, and dirt and gravel flew everywhere.
It doesn't even need to turn; its flight path is a straight line, and every tree, every stone, and every inch of land along that line will be smashed open by it.
Behind it was a wide, bulldozed path, covered with broken branches and leaves, and the air was filled with the fresh smell of sawdust and the earthy stench of soil.
Su Mu ran down that ditch. It wasn't that he chose this path; it was the only path he could run down.
The trees on both sides were too dense for him to run fast, but the dent that the big bird had created was the flattest and most unobstructed passage in the entire forest.
The distance remained consistently around 100 meters.
The Shetland Sheep couldn't close the distance, nor could the large bird... It had the tree canopy blocking its path, while the Shetland Sheep had a brown bear leading the way. The three of them chased and fled like this, traversing most of the zoo.
At the end of the woods was a wide open lawn.
Su Mu's expression changed.
In the forest, the large bird's speed was suppressed by the tree canopy, allowing him to barely maintain distance. On flat ground, with no obstacles to the large bird, the difference in speed between them became fatal.
The large bird only needs one swoop to peck him through like that giant python.
The brown bear clearly knew this as well.
Its body suddenly twisted at the edge of the lawn, made a sharp right turn, and rushed towards a dense thicket of bushes.
Su Mu hesitated for a moment... There was a fence in front of him. If he continued to run forward, he would be blocked by the fence, and the bird's momentum would leave him no chance to turn.
Worse still, he felt the bird's gaze sweep over him, its amber eyes now scrutinizing him... as if trying to determine if the little creature that had escaped was in cahoots with the egg thief.
Su Mu cursed under his breath, forcing himself to change direction and turn right with the brown bear.
The large bird let out a sharp cry. The sound did not come from its throat, but rather exploded from the deepest part of its chest, like a sound wave compressed to its limit, creating visible ripples in the air.
The fence on the lawn...the tempered glass that was at least two fingers thick...under the impact of that sound wave, it cracked from the edges like ice being hit by a hammer, the cracks spreading like a spider web, and then it exploded in pieces.
Glass shards flew through the air, shimmering blindingly in the sunlight, like a sudden hailstorm.
Su Mu felt a sharp pain in his ears. The sound wave pierced his eardrums and vibrated back and forth in his skull, like ten thousand needles pricking his nerves at the same time. He gritted his teeth and did not stop.
At the end of the lawn is a thicket of bushes, and behind the bushes is the sika deer enclosure.
When Su Mu rushed in, the herd of sika deer were leisurely grazing on the grass.
Hearing the commotion, more than a dozen deer raised their heads at the same time, their dark eyes reflecting the image of the black behemoth... and then they exploded.
The deer scattered like a powder keg, some to the left, some to the right, and some crashing through the fence and charging out. They were incredibly fast, their hooves flying, leaving deep hoofprints on the grass.
A large bird flew overhead. It didn't even glance at the deer.
Its target was the brown bear and the sheepdog following behind; the deer herd was merely an obstacle in its path.
A large, muscular stag fled in the same direction as the large bird's flight path.
It took two steps, then seemed to realize something was wrong and turned sharply... too late. The large bird didn't even change its flight posture; it merely lowered its head slightly, and its scimitar-like beak pierced through the middle of the stag's body. There was no impact, no sound of bones breaking, only a very brief "pop," like a bubble bursting. The stag's body was sliced in half, the left and right halves flying off in opposite directions, flesh and entrails exploding in the air, drawing a dark red arc in the sunlight.
Its four legs kicked a few times in the air before its two halves crashed to the ground.
Su Mu felt a warm liquid splash onto the back of his head.
He didn't turn around, but he knew what it was. A chill ran down his spine, not from fear, but from the feeling of being locked on, assessed, and judged... The big bird's gaze lingered on him for a moment, as if confirming whether this fast-moving little creature was worth its attention.
The deer posed a negligible but not entirely inconvenient obstacle to the large birds.
In their panic, some of the sika deer crashed into the large bird's claws, some were overturned by the gusts of wind generated by its wings, and some even deliberately bumped into its body and were then flung away.
These small obstacles accumulated, causing the large bird to slow down slightly. The distance between the Shetland Sheepdog and the brown bear was barely maintained, and they did not continue to close.
The sheep leaped over the wire fence and rushed into the bird enclosure.
Several mutated turkeys emerged from behind the bushes, their bodies jet black, necks bald, and combs a vivid red like blood. Upon seeing Su Mu, they emitted piercing clucking sounds and flapped their wings as they charged towards him.
Su Mu didn't even slow down; he weaved through the flock of turkeys at a speed that the turkeys couldn't keep up with. They turned to give chase, but the large bird was already there.
A giant claw descended from the sky, crushing the leading turkey into the mud. The turkey's body exploded under the claw, feathers and blood splattering everywhere. The other turkeys were terrified and scattered, burrowing into the depths of the bushes, never to emerge again.
Brown bears tend to seek out areas with large herds of animals.
It knows the layout of the zoo like the back of its hand; it knows exactly where the large groups of animals are, where the narrowest roads are, and where the densest trees are.
It led the Shetland Sheepdog and the big bird into two flocks of birds, an antelope enclosure, and a zebra herd, causing chaos in each area. The big bird didn't stop; it was like an unstoppable bulldozer, crushing everything in its path.
When Su Mu was forced to follow it into the leopard enclosure, several mutated leopards were lying on the lawn.
