Summer Green Apples

Chapter 19 The Small Study

Ji Xiwen stopped walking without realizing it.

The small study between the room she's sleeping in and Chi Sui's bedroom is actually quite large, and it even has a self-service tea room.

Chi Sui usually does his homework here.

Ji Xiwen rarely went inside.

The door was half open, and Chi Sui's lazy voice clearly reached Ji Xiwen's ears. He spoke somewhat unclearly and said nonchalantly, "I've always been like this, it's not like I suddenly became like this."

"you……"

Uncle Chi was probably too angry to speak.

Chi then said, "If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now."

Chi Kai's voice rose again, "What kind of attitude is this?"

Chi Sui leaned against the desk, hands in his pockets, long legs tapping the ground at an angle, his handsome face with slightly sharp features full of impatience. "Does my attitude matter?"

He seemed to find it a bit funny, his voice tinged with amusement, "You've always thought I'm a scoundrel, that if it weren't for my decent grades, I'd be no different from a hooligan."

"What do you mean by 'I think'?" Chi Kai frowned deeply. "Isn't that exactly what you think?"

"So there's nothing for us to talk about." Chi Sui spread his hands. "Isn't it better to let each other go?"

Chi Kai was panting heavily, no longer displaying the gentle and refined demeanor he had in the restaurant. He stared at Chi Sui with a somewhat frightening expression.

Chi Sui waited for two seconds, then turned and left.

He paused for a moment as he stepped out of the small study.

The girl in front of me was carrying a basin and walking very fast. She must have taken a shower. Her long hair was draped over her shoulders, and she was wearing a cream-colored short-sleeved shirt and shorts.

Those long, straight, slender legs were particularly eye-catching.

"..."

Chi quickly looked away.

Ji Xi was afraid of being caught red-handed by Chi Sui.

She went into the laundry room on the first floor, filled a basin halfway with water, and then headed towards the kitchen.

He bumped right into Chi Sui as soon as he went in.

He was holding a bottle of Coke that had just been taken out of the refrigerator, with a thin layer of condensation on the outside of the bottle.

He paused for a moment.

Eyes facing each other.

Ji Xiwen rubbed her hands awkwardly, "You..."

"Hmm?" he hummed softly.

"Why didn't you tell Uncle Chi the truth? You were clearly standing up for me..."

Ji Xiwen said this with some difficulty.

She was afraid that Chi Sui would blurt out, "Don't flatter yourself, I just can't stand that kid."

The kitchen lights were off, only the hallway light shone through.

The boy's face was somewhat blurry at this moment. He was much taller than Ji Xiwen, and he needed to lower his head slightly when they made eye contact.

He has striking features, with full, rounded eyes, deep double eyelids, and jet-black pupils. When he stares intently at someone, he gives off a particularly affectionate impression.

There's no need to explain to him.

Chi Sui looked completely unconcerned. "He wouldn't believe me even if I explained."

Ji Xiwen was stunned.

Chi Sui: "Is there anything else?"

Ji Xiwen pursed her lips. "Tomorrow is the weekend."

Chi Sui simply looked at her.

Perhaps they felt that what she said was too obvious.

No one in the world is more sensitive to weekends than students.

Ji Xiwen took a deep breath and said, "The table in my room is a bit small. Can I do my homework next to it?"

"...Hmm." Chi Sui hummed through his nose.

"Thank you," Ji Xiwen said sincerely.

Chi Sui: "..."

She really is a thank-you expert.

He brushed past Ji Xiwen with a blank expression.

Ji Xiwen stared blankly at his retreating figure.

She suddenly remembered having dinner with Luo Wenjing and Zhang Qingyan before. Zhang Qingyan said that Chi Sui was a truly versatile person.

At first glance, Chi Sui did indeed appear arrogant and domineering, with an air of superiority from head to toe, including his hair.

She felt a pang of loneliness as they brushed past each other.

Or perhaps it's just an illusion.

……

The next day, Saturday.

After playing games all night, Chi Sui woke up in the afternoon the next day.

The air conditioner in the bedroom was set very low, and the thin blanket was piled up at the foot of the bed. He was so cold that the hairs on his body stood on end, and it took him a while to find the remote control and turn the temperature up a bit.

He has high requirements for sleeping conditions; he can't sleep in any light, so he chooses high-quality blackout curtains, and there's not a single ray of light in the room.

He covered himself with the blanket and dozed off for a while. When the sleepiness completely dissipated, he got up slightly. When he braced his arms against the edge of the bed and exerted a little force, the muscle lines were particularly clear.

He walked to the French windows and drew back the curtains.

The outside world was covered by heavy rain. The ginkgo leaves in the yard were dripping water, and small streams of water had accumulated on the French windows.

Summer is rainy, and in Heisei, it rains lightly every few days.

Chi Sui woke up for a while and went into the bathroom to wash up.

After washing up, he picked up his phone and glanced at it.

In the pinned three-person group chat.

Xu Jiyang sent a message at 4 AM: [Brothers, it's raining. Our library trip tomorrow afternoon is canceled.]

Li Junyu sent the message two and a half hours ago: "You probably won't wake up tonight."

Chi put down his phone and went downstairs for lunch.

Aunt Chen cooked him a bowl of wontons.

While Chi Sui was eating wontons at the dining table, she asked carefully, "Young Master, are you going out again today?"

"I'm not going out," Chi replied vaguely.

"Okay," said Aunt Chen. "Then I'll cut up some fruit for you. You probably don't think of eating this at school."

After Chi Sui finished eating the wontons, Aunt Chen had also cut up the fruit.

She used a very delicate white porcelain bowl, cut many kinds of fruit, and carefully arranged them on the plate.

Chi thanked him and took the bowl of fruit upstairs.

As he walked up the stairs, Chi Sui looked at the apple in the bowl and sighed from the bottom of his heart.

He genuinely hates Apple.

But Aunt Chen firmly believed that an apple a day would help one live to ninety-nine, so she would cut him an apple every time.

He first went back to his room to put on his schoolbag, and then kicked open the door to the small study.

She was chewing on a piece of cantaloupe as she walked, when she met Ji Xiwen's gaze.

The small study room has excellent natural light and a large window. A long table is placed next to the window, where a stack of test papers and several history and politics textbooks are scattered haphazardly.

Ji Xiwen was staring at him blankly.

Chi Sui slowly ate the cantaloupe in his mouth, then froze, "What are you doing here?"

Ji Xiwen pursed her lips. "I asked you about it last night."

Chi Sui: "…………"

It was obvious that he had forgotten after taking a nap.

Turning away would be too deliberate, and besides, there was only a computer desk in his bedroom, so he couldn't do any practice problems.

The young master, with a blank expression, hesitated for two seconds before sitting down opposite Ji Xiwen.

Ji Xiwen carefully shrank her legs.

Continue with the questions.

The small study was completely silent for a moment. The pattering rain outside the window sounded like natural white noise. The air conditioner was running quietly, and the room was at a comfortable temperature.

Ji Xiwen flipped through the exam paper and heard the person opposite her put down their pen.

She said cautiously, "Chi Sui, if you mind, I'll go back to my room and write."
