Farming Life Starting in Africa

Chapter 213 The Not-So-Simple Neighbor

Converting so much gold into cash is very troublesome; he didn't expect Rosen to be able to convert it into cash so quickly.

However, he was too lazy to ask for details; as long as the money was clean, that was fine. Guan Yuming nodded: "You've read the contract, right?"

Rosen shook his head: "My uncle hasn't given me the contract yet."

Guan Yuming seemed to have anticipated this answer; Qian Bida was just so-so at getting things done. Like Schrödinger's cat, he always wavered between being reliable and unreliable.

"Alright, he'll be here in a few days. Once you've reviewed the contract and are satisfied, I'll have your uncle give you an account, and you can transfer the money directly into it."

"Okay!" Rosen was happy to relinquish control. This big shot seemed reliable enough; he'd never played a villain before. He figured he wouldn't mess things up for him.

Rosen was just making assumptions. He didn't even consider that among those who thrive abroad, which one is truly a decent person?

He himself was a thief in Africa, and although the people he robbed were terrorists, you can't call him a good guy anywhere!

Guan Yuming sat on the sofa, his right hand resting on his knee, tapping lightly. "How are you? Are you adjusting well to this environment?"

Rosen smiled and said, "It's not bad, the environment is quite nice. It's quiet here, and the place is spacious."

"Well, it's good that you can adapt." Guan Yuming nodded. "If you need anything, you can let me know." Deng Mei asked him to take care of Rosen a little, since he had just arrived here and might not know how to do some things right away.

Rosen shifted to a slightly more comfortable position: "Uncle Ming, where can I find a private airport? I want to learn to fly..."

Actually, what Rosen really wanted to learn was how to fly a fighter jet, at least how to take off, but he doubted anyone would teach him that.

Guan Yuming immediately sensed that this man was somewhat restless; what respectable businessman would want to learn this? Moreover, asking about private airports on their first meeting was indeed rare among the young people he had met over the years.

He recalled what Qian Bida and Deng Mei had told him—this man had never been a soldier, had never received formal training, yet he dared to chase after rebels in Africa, even though the army and rebels there were not very capable fighters, and were far inferior to the guys in the East Asian Monster Room.

But the fact that they dared to chase after the rebels speaks volumes.

"I'll arrange it. Someone will contact you in a few days, and you can just go with them."

The two chatted for a while longer, and the topic gradually turned to Deng Mei and Qian Bida. Guan Yuming talked about their time when they were young, how they were classmates, got together in school, and later separated because of family reasons.

As for his relationship with Qian Bida, Guan Yuming didn't elaborate. Rosen remembered Qian Bida saying it was a life-or-death bond, which was what he was most curious about…

It wasn't until it was completely dark that Guan Yuming stood up: "I should leave now; I still have things to take care of."

Rosen also stood up: "I'm sorry, Uncle Ming, we have nothing at home, so we can't entertain you."

"No need to be so polite." Guan Yuming took two steps towards the door, paused at the threshold, as if suddenly remembering something, "Your marksmanship is alright?"

Rosen thought for a moment, then said without being modest, "Within 300 meters, it's almost guaranteed to hit. With a rifle, it can be hit at 400 meters, but that depends on luck. With a pistol, within 50 meters is no problem."

Guan Yuming nodded and said, "I'll be going to Mexico in a few days to take care of some business, and I need someone to help me. Are you interested in coming?"

"Sure!"

"Alright, I'm leaving." Guan Yuming pushed open the door, and the night wind blew in from outside, carrying the earthy smell of the construction site and the dry scent of the distant grassland.

He stood by the threshold, his gaze sweeping across the lake shrouded in night, then fixed on the dark silhouette of the hills in the distance. He said thoughtfully, "Don't mess with that old man to your north. His identity is rather unusual."

Rosen followed his gaze and glanced in that direction. In the darkness, only the indistinct outlines of a few trees stood on the hill under the moonlight. "Not simple? I haven't seen him in all this time I've been here."

"Hmm," Guan Yuming's voice was indifferent, "He's definitely noticed you. If he doesn't show his face, just pretend he doesn't exist."

Guan Yuming had checked the information on the people in this area, and he already knew Barney's information. He was just a mercenary, so there was no need to pay too much attention to him.

As for Marvin, who lives north of Rosen, most of his information has been deleted, so it can only be speculated that he is a retired CIA employee.

Those whose resumes and mission records are deleted by the CIA are people with trouble.

Rosen stood at the doorway, watching the dark sedan drive away along the dirt road. Suddenly, he felt someone watching him; from his vantage point, besides the lake, there was only the hill diagonally opposite.

He turned and went back into the house, took out his helmet from the capsule space, and pressed the switch on the side.

In low-light night vision mode, the whole world turned into a uniform light green, the outline of the hills was redrawn, the texture of the grass was clearly visible, and even the edge of the lake in the distance was outlined with a thin line.

He slowly moved his gaze, starting around the spacecraft and examining it section by section along the hillside. Nothing was unusual; no moving outlines, no unnatural shapes. He exhaled, thinking he might be overthinking things.

Then he switched to thermal imaging. The image flipped in an instant, the green faded, and it was replaced by a dark, low-temperature background.

The edge of the lake was tinged with a uniform dark blue. His gaze moved along the slope of the hillside and then stopped.

Two hundred meters away on the hillside, a red silhouette lay there, brighter than the surrounding ground, as if something was slowly radiating its heat.

Rosen wondered if this was the unusual neighbor. Why wasn't he home for dinner so late at night, instead of feeding mosquitoes?

Curiosity drove Rosen to see who this guy was, so he went to the other window, opened a crack, and launched a drone out.

The drone soon flew to the top of the hill and hovered about 300 meters above the ground. Rosen wanted to take a picture of the man to confirm who he was.

At this altitude, people on the ground cannot hear the drone.

Suddenly the figure on the ground moved and ran quickly to the north.

Rosen was immediately curious. Was this guy hungry and went home for dinner? Otherwise, how could he explain running away as soon as the drone was above his head? Did he have some kind of super intuition?

Rosen controlled the drone, flying it to a higher altitude and watching the movement trajectory of the person on the ground.
