Chapter 45 The Whereabouts of the Soul

Chapter 45 The Whereabouts of the Soul

Salomon booked a table through room service, reserved a taxi, and even brought Bayonetta a set of clothes while she was taking a shower. It was a pure white evening gown, very form-fitting, the exact size of which Salomon had obtained from Bayonetta.

Fortunately, the Sorcerer Supreme provided Salomon with ample funds for his activities, as if the Sorcerer Supreme had anticipated the current situation and thus increased Salomon's budget. In addition to these expenses, Salomon also had an extra bank card in his pocket, which the Sorcerer Supreme had secretly slipped into it, and the money in it was so much that he was too lazy to count it.

Salomon felt his restaurant reservation seemed somewhat unnecessary, as Bayonetta appeared to be able to survive without food. Indeed, she had been submerged at the bottom of the lake for 500 years, and would have starved to death long ago if not for the immense magical power sustaining her life.

The arcane mage suspected that Bayonetta's stomach might not be functioning properly anymore, and wondered if everything she ate had been thrown into lower planes through portals.

Several hours had passed since they had dinner at Enzo's house. The battle was still very tiring, and Salomon was already starving, looking forward to trying the local specialties.

The witch's preparations took another hour, but the sorcerer showed no impatience, as he was already prepared for the online criticisms surrounding the matter.

The witch seemed to thoroughly enjoy being taken care of. When she stepped out of the room, she found everything was ready. She was very satisfied with Salomon's arrangements, especially the style of the clothes. She examined them repeatedly for a long time, and finally, under Salomon's impatient urging with his eyes covered, she put them on.

This woman doesn't wear clothes after taking a shower!

"The little one can take care of others now." Her voice rose gently at the end as she pulled Salomon out of the hotel and into the taxi that had been waiting for a long time. "Come on, a culinary adventure awaits us."

Italian cuisine often uses seafood as a main ingredient, and seafood pasta is a must-try. If you don't like pasta, there's also seafood risotto to choose from. After the appetizer, the waiter brings out a deep square plate filled with oysters, squid, shrimp, and mushrooms, along with two slices of toast.

Olive oil, black olives, and tomatoes appeared on almost every dish, while the cold appetizers were mostly Italian specialties like sausages and prosciutto. There were even different kinds of wine to pair with the various dishes. Although no one here would care about minors not being allowed to drink alcohol, Salomon still refused Bayonetta's offer to drink and ordered an iced cola for himself.

The main course was a T-bone steak, a generously portioned, thick cut cooked to medium-rare—bold yet delicate. These steaks were sold by the kilogram, but that was insignificant to Salomon and Bayonetta.

Italians place particular importance on dinner, and this restaurant is always packed with customers in the evening. However, to provide a private dining environment, the restaurant doesn't turn on the lights. Instead, a lamp is placed on the table, leaving diners in complete darkness, only able to see the face of the person opposite them.

Therefore, Bayonetta's appearance did not attract much attention, which gave the witch and Salomon an environment to talk, and some things were easier to say at the dinner table.

"Boya, when are you going to tell me what I should know?" Bayonetta was scooping at her dessert, a crunchy cream cake, with a small silver spoon.

Despite having eaten so much, Salomon showed no sign of the witch being full; she seemed perfectly capable of eating more. She said, "Don't be like your teacher, keeping this from me all this time. You shouldn't lie at such a young age."

"No, if you'd like, I can tell you the story first," the sorcerer said, ordering another cola. Drinking alcohol is bad for brain development; his sorcerer needed to protect his brain. He said, "After all, finding the Dark Book will take an extremely long time, I'm not in a hurry."

"I'm very curious about your answer," Bayonetta said, looking at Salomon. "There must be the answer I need in it."

"Have you completely forgotten your past?" Salomon asked, looking up. "Don't you remember anything? Not even a trace?"

"All I remember is that I'm a witch," Bayonetta said. "And hunting angels and summoning demons are instinctive, as if I was born with those magic abilities."

Salomon finished the last piece of beef, wiped his mouth, and then told Bayonetta everything he knew. However, to keep it secret, he used a little trick, making his voice ring directly in the witch's ear. Others could only see him open his mouth, but couldn't hear what he was saying.

"You mean, the power I possess, called 'The Left Eye,' is the power to summon demons?" The witch remained silent for a moment after hearing Salomon's explanation. "And the angels are hunting me down to reclaim 'The Left Eye' and awaken their gods?"

"Yes, and the 'right eye,' which is the power that summons angels, is in Vigrid. There's a reason why a large number of angels roam there."

But no one knows what the Sage Lumen is planning to do in Vigrid. On the surface, Vigrid's technology is extremely advanced, but otherwise, it's nothing special. "I don't know the specifics, because I'm not a professional intelligence broker," Salomon said. "But now the number of angels is excessive, which is why His Holiness has asked me to assist you in hunting them down."

"It seems that you, Venerable One, are also using me as a tool," the witch said with a smile. "I am a weak woman being hunted down by angels."

"The angels you killed would cry if they heard this, Bayonetta!" Salomon rolled his eyes. Anyone who believed a witch was a fool. Perhaps Salomon's power, once he unlocked his stigmata, would rival Bayonetta's, but his speed would be far inferior.

The arcane mage had witnessed Bayonetta pull the trigger many times in an instant; if he were to face such an enemy unprepared, death would be the only outcome.

He said, "And His Holiness has sent me here. Perhaps I can't be of much help, but it shows that Kamar-Taj is behind you."

"Tsk, Boya, you're such a naughty child." Bayonetta turned to the side, crossing her long legs, and said, "Isn't it best if big sister perishes together with the angel in the end?"

The witch's words tore away the mask of tenderness, but no one sitting at this table cared about such things.

"Beyondta, you must know that the Venerable One has established the rules: neither beings from the upper nor lower planes are allowed to set foot on Earth. Humanity has no need for them. Currently, the only beings on Earth capable of summoning these creatures on a large scale are the witches and sages."

"This power of the 'left eye' and 'right eye' is more harmful than beneficial to Earth." Salomon sighed and continued, "Moreover, do you think you can summon demons without paying a price? I'm afraid your soul has already gone somewhere. I suspect it belongs to the demon lord that spawned from the part of the body of the Chaos God Esir that fell into the abyss."

It's highly likely that the witches were able to summon demons because they made a pact with that demon lord. But everything comes at a price: when you die, your soul will be dragged into the abyss.

"Oh dear, I'm so scared!" Bayonetta said, crossing her arms. "Little one, do you have any ideas?"
