Chapter 44 Journey to Florence

Chapter 44 Heading to Florence (Seeking Investment!)

Bayonetta was extremely agile; the sharp blades would often just brush past her without harming her in the slightest, and with each attack she dodged, Bayonetta would become even faster.

Furthermore, she carries a pistol in each of her hands and feet, and she can fire at speeds that even Salomon cannot see clearly. The deafening gunshots often hit multiple enemies in a single shot.

With a teammate ahead who could hold off the enemy, Salomon could cast spells with peace of mind. This was the first time he had tasted the joy of being a mage.

He pointed at an enemy while chanting a spell, and an incredibly simple trick was performed.

The "Seize the Opportunity" spell, the best way to probe an enemy you don't understand, allows Salomon to briefly learn about their defensive weaknesses. If Salomon didn't know which magical effects these angels were immune to, or what magic they were resistant to, he wouldn't be able to cast any spells at all.

Immediately afterwards, a phantom bell appeared above the head of an angel carrying a large trumpet and playing it. The mournful sound of the bell rang out, and negative energy pressed towards it like sound waves.

The angel played another note, and the positive and negative energies that shot out collided, canceling each other out and leaving only a residual energy wave. But immediately afterward, a ball of fire slammed into its face, scorching a piece of its mask yellow.

Salomon's attack drew the attention of the angels. Although they couldn't reach Bayonetta, Salomon, who was not far away, looked easy to bully, so shifting their target was a good thing.

But before they could fly toward Salomon, a green energy that looked utterly repulsive shot from the arcane mage's hand toward a birdman wielding a golden spear.

The Affinity angel moved incredibly slowly. Bayonetta raised her long legs, her high heels pressing against its head, and then several bullets pierced through the Affinity angel's skull.

"Thank you, boya~ Give me more of this kind of magic." Bayonetta winked at Salomon. She felt that the angel who was under Salomon's spell had become much more fragile, both in terms of skin and the armor that connected flesh and blood.

Salomon cast a disease ray to test whether the angels could resist the poisoning symptoms, since even the "Preemptive Strike" spell couldn't give him a complete understanding of the enemy. Therefore, through the spells of Death's Bell, Fire Arrow, and Disease Ray, he roughly determined the angels' weaknesses.

Salomon's figure seemed to be enveloped in a hazy mist, swaying in the sparse, dim light. A beam of positive energy, emitted from the horn, flew past him like a cannonball, but Salomon did not stop casting the spell.

A giant hand made of soil, as tall as a person, reached out from beside Bayonetta. Before Bayonetta could react, the hand tightly gripped one of the angels beside her. Black cracks spread across the angel's body, and blood was squeezed out, then turned into golden specks of light and floated into the air.

"Oh my~" Bayonetta easily pressed the pistol against the angel's head. After firing several shots, the large hand made of soil grabbed another angel. Now, the witch was certain that this was Salomon's magic, and it had indeed helped her a great deal, pulling the angels out of her blind spot so she could attack.

Seeing that the angels were gradually surrounding Bayonetta, and even above the witch there were several angels holding horns, Salomon immediately deconstructed Maximilian Earth Grasp and changed the magic.

"Come to me, Bayonetta." Salomon didn't stop casting the spell; as soon as he finished speaking, the witch appeared beside him. Suddenly, a thick, sticky spider web descended from the sky, enveloping all the angels and binding them firmly to the ground.

Now is the time to unleash targeted spells.

The sorcerer tore open the scroll, and a fireball, only slightly shorter than Salomon, appeared before him. The fireball rolled in a straight line towards the angels, igniting the flammable spiderweb. Flames instantly spread across the entire web, scorching all the angels in its path. Under Salomon's control, the fireball spun around, crushing every angel in its path.

"Little one, your performance was quite impressive." Bayonetta narrowed one eye and fired a few shots at the few angels still clinging to life with her pistol. "But this time it's still a small-scale affair."

"I'm here to find something, Bayonetta, not to fight. But Kamar-Taj also has a responsibility to clean up these angels after they entered Earth." Salomon sighed helplessly. He had to pay for the magic of necromancy himself. He wasn't qualified to draw magic from the dark dimension yet, so it was best to use necromancy sparingly to avoid stunting his growth after sacrificing his life force.

He felt somewhat uncomfortable constantly looking up at Bayonetta.

After the angels vanished in the flames, turning into golden specks of light, Bayonetta summoned her motorcycle again. "Get on, Boya," Bayonetta said. "Or do you want me to carry you? I don't mind!"

"Tsk!" Salomon clicked his tongue, but still obediently sat down in the back seat. He didn't want to be hugged by this woman when his hormones were surging; any physical reaction would be extremely embarrassing, and Salomon didn't want a socially embarrassing situation, especially in front of this woman.

"Hold on tight, or are you shy..." Bayonetta's voice came again.

"Shut up, witch!" Salomon blushed, but still obediently hugged Bayonetta's slender waist. "Drive! Drive! I'm going to get angry if you say that again!"

Bayonetta chose to fight near a castle called Finchlia Tower, in the southern part of the Fiesole region and also in the southern part of the Ceccher Mountains on the outskirts of Florence. It is said that Leonardo da Vinci once conducted flight experiments on the summit of the Ceccher Mountains.

There's a highway to the south from here, and if you follow it west, you'll reach Florence. However, because it was too late, Salomon's destination, the Church of Santa Croce, located not far from Leonardo da Vinci's former residence, was closed to visitors.

So Bayonita drove west, intending to spend the night at a resort called "Country Puppet." Nearby, there was a restaurant called Ristorante Il Salviatino, whose Italian cuisine was said to have received countless rave reviews, and she was eager to try it.

Salomon stood at the door of the guest room and said, "I understand the reasoning, and I also want to try the Italian food there."

His tone gradually rose, becoming incredibly serious. "But the problem is... why did you only book one room?! Bayonetta! Don't you have any self-awareness at all?!"

"I'm doing this for safety's sake, Boya~" Bayonetta stood with her hands on her hips, her flawless figure attracting many glances. She pulled a lollipop from her cleavage and popped it into her mouth; Salomon even heard someone fall to the ground. The witch said casually, "Angels can appear suddenly, you know~"

"I'll set up a magic alarm."

"Angels will raid at night~"

"I'll set up a magic alarm."

"Angels, just like men, can appear out of nowhere!"

"I can……"

"Open the door now, or I'll undo my magic. Big sister's clothes are made of magic, do you... want everyone to see big sister naked...?"

"Let's go in, let's go in! We're going to buy clothes later!"

I guess I just can't write anything cute, so I give up.
