Chapter 46 Conversations and Initial Cooperation

Chapter 46 Conversations and Initial Cooperation (Seeking Investment!)

"I am not familiar with the history of your witch clan," Salomon shook his head slightly. "But contracts are not always established through paper and signatures. They can also be made with demons through poetry, dance, sacrifice, or various rituals that seem unrelated to contracts. I am not familiar with the witch clan's methods of making contracts, so I cannot make any conclusions."

But after the contract was made, your body definitely underwent some changes. The most obvious one is your shadow; your shadow is no longer yours, but the demon's—oh, it looks like a butterfly.

The witch moved closer to Salomon. "Boya, you're such a heartless fellow. It's not good to be so rigid at such a young age. The responsibility of protecting the world hasn't even fallen on your shoulders yet. I'm hunting angels to protect humanity, you know. Those guys aren't good people. Can't you think of a way?"

"Then you can only try to live as long as possible, Bayonetta," the sorcerer said. "As long as you don't die on the battlefield, your powerful magic will be enough for you to live for many years. I think even time won't have the heart to ravage your appearance, madam. You can at least remain beautiful when humanity migrates to outer space."

"You have such a sweet tongue, little one." Bayonetta wasn't worried about the fate of her soul; that wasn't something she needed to consider right now. Right now, she only wanted to unravel the mysteries surrounding her.

Although Salomon had told her part of her past, including the "fact" that she was the last of the witches, and that Vigrid still had a Lumen Sage who possessed the "right eye," corresponding to the "left eye," many things remained shrouded in mystery, and the fragments she experienced in her midnight dreams remained unexplained.

And then there was the lipstick with the spell inscribed on it, something that went with her to the coffin. She still didn't know what it was for, but Bayonetta still subconsciously felt it was important and always carried it with her.

But she already had a target: Viglid.

In legends, the witch clan and the sage clan are counterparts. If Salomon is right, the sage who possesses the "right eye" must know something, but she knows nothing about the Izawell Group that controls Vigrid and its president, Badr, who has never appeared in any newspapers or videos.

Therefore, she needed an accomplice, someone who could help her investigate Vigrid. Now, before her stood a Holy Son, and a rebellious one at that—how interesting, how coincidental! When Bayonetta saw the stigmata on Salomon's hand, she had already foreseen his potential, for he was destined to perform miracles on earth.

Bayonetta rested one hand on the table and the other on her chin, speaking in a gentle tone, "Big sister is a kind person who's willing to help you get to heaven, won't you help big sister?"

"Using the future tense, Bayonetta, the present tense doesn't suit me. I don't want anything to do with Heaven right now; that's for the future, it's too early to talk about it now," Salomon said, shaking his head. "Besides, a contract cannot be broken without understanding its terms, not even by the Lord of Hell. As for demons, well, I'd rather deal with devils; who knows if they have the rationality to abide by contracts?"

A slender hand with sharp red nails emerged from the darkness. This hand, with its distinctly inhuman, slightly bluish skin, slammed heavily on the table, causing the silver cutlery to bounce in the candlelight.

Salomon nearly jumped up from his chair as well. Then, the inhuman hand vanished into the shadows in an instant.

The sound of tapping on the table was particularly noticeable in the environment filled with whispers and dim candlelight.

"It's nothing, it's nothing, nothing happened here." Salomon quickly got up and quietly cast a spell to divert everyone's attention. When he sat back down, he saw Bayonetta sitting there with a glass of wine in her hand, a half-smile on her face.

Salomon looked around, then lowered his voice and asked Bayonetta, "Was that you?"

"No~" Bayonetta said with a laugh, "You've messed with the wrong demon, Boya. Not all demons are chaotic lunatics. At least, the demon lord who made a pact with me doesn't like being called that."

Salomon coughed lightly twice. "Looks like I can't speak ill of demons in front of you?"

"But I don't think Madam would mind you speaking ill of the devil, and it would be even better if you could also praise her beauty." Bayonetta blinked. "What's troubling my older sister is something else entirely, wouldn't you like to hear it?"

“Of course…no,” Salomon said. “It’s all about your origins, isn’t it? I guess you’ll go to Vigrid to find answers, but my current abilities aren’t enough to allow me to run around in places where so many high-ranking angels gather. I need to learn, I need to train. My magic isn’t instinct, Bayonetta. I need to construct precise incantations to cast spells.”

"What a pity." The witch seemed unsurprised by Salomon's refusal. "But haven't you considered why the Sorcerer Supreme would let you come with me? I don't think I can help you find a book that nobody knows where."

"It's nothing more than practical experience and travel. Although the Dark Book is also important, I have plenty of time to find it." The arcane mage shrugged. "I think it's a bit much to throw me into a bunch of winged birdmen all at once. Even if I manage to escape, I'll definitely be seriously injured."

Shouldn't the starting village be all about fetch quests? I'm really good at finding cats and dogs. Don't even think about having me unlock all my Stigmata; if that happens, my brain will probably be roasted before I even kill the enemy.

"You're not some little baby who needs milk. It's ridiculous for someone who can kill angels to claim weakness." Suddenly, the witch steered the conversation in an unrelated direction, saying, "It's said that the Sorcerer Supreme can see the future."

"You could say that, but I can't say anything more." Salomon pushed the dessert that the waiter had brought back in front of Bayonetta. There were many kinds of desserts here, and he didn't mind trying them all.

After all, magic is life force, and the main way to obtain life force is by eating. He had already paid the magic power of several necromancy spells. Salomon chose to eat more in order to grow taller, which was definitely not a reason for being greedy.

"Does that mean everything that happens on Earth was within the Supreme Master's prediction?"

"That's one way to understand it."

"So, His Holiness the Supreme Master had already seen our conversation in the past, but he still sent you to me. Does this mean that His Holiness the Supreme Master agreed to your cooperation with me?"

"Uh..." Salomon replied with difficulty, "You could say that..."

"Deal?" Bayonetta held out a hand. "Of course, I won't let you face a whole bunch of angels directly. I just need to be able to collect some things while I'm fighting."

"Will you help me?"

"I help you, we help each other, or more."

"Phew..." Salomon looked at Bayonetta's light-colored eyes and sighed helplessly, "Deal."

He took that hand.

After dinner, Salomon did not stay at the hotel overnight. Instead, he opened a portal back to Kamar-Taj, leaving Bayonetta there.

Tomorrow morning, he will teleport directly to the hotel where Bayonetta is, because he simply can't stay here any longer. It's an uncontrollable physiological reaction, and although it's not his intention, Salomon still feels somewhat embarrassed.

good night.
