Chapter 43 Bayonetta

Chapter 43 Bayonetta

Salomon almost fainted, really.

The stimulation this woman provided was far too intense for him. Salomon suspected that his ability to become a magician was solely due to being a virgin at thirty in his previous life. Fortunately, he regularly received "training" from Athena, and he could barely maintain his composure when gazed upon by those beautiful, light-colored eyes.

"Yes, it's me who's looking for you." He leaned back as far as he could, and somewhat flusteredly pulled a letter from his satchel. "This is a letter from the Sorcerer Supreme. I've come to you because I'm looking for a grimoire, and the Sorcerer Supreme said you can help."

"Let me see." The witch took the letter and read it. After a short while, she threw the parchment back at her. She said, "It seems the Sorcerer Supreme knows about my past. He probably wouldn't have told me if it weren't for needing my help now. Boya, tell me, and I'll help you find the Dark Book."

"What do you mean?" Salomon was greatly puzzled. At this moment, Rodan explained that Bayonetta had awakened from her coffin at the bottom of the lake twenty years ago, and apart from remembering that she was a witch, she couldn't remember anything else. Hunting angels and feeding demons was purely instinctive. If anyone knew Bayonetta's past best, it would be Kamar-Taj; the ancient sorcerer order that had stood on Earth for millennia surely possessed information about witches.

"That's a fair trade, Boya~" the witch said, standing in front of Salomon. "Besides, Italy isn't far from Vigrid, and there are plenty of winged villains roaming there. Little brothers like you really need your big sister's protection. Hmm?"

Bayonetta suddenly leaned in, sniffing her delicate nose. Salomon had to take a half step back until the bar counter pressed against his back. Bayonetta's eyes sharpened, and she reached behind her back. "A faint scent of rosemary...you don't mean...?"

"Fighting isn't allowed here, Bayonetta." Rodin's tone remained calm, but it was enough to make Bayonetta abandon her plan to attack. The bar owner kindly explained Salomon's identity, including the strange phenomenon at his birth, which caused Bayonetta's attitude to change again.

"Oh?" She narrowed her eyes, scrutinizing Salomon, including the stigmata on his hands. "I initially thought some high-ranking angel had descended, and he even considered running off to New York. Is the Holy Son about to rebel against Heaven?"

"The Venerable One said I am human, so I will always be human." Salomon regained his composure and said, "As for what the higher planes want to do, that's none of my business. Our goals are the same, Bayonetta: no extradimensional being can set foot on Earth. It's just that recently the planetary defense system has frequently detected the arrival of beings from the higher planes, so the Venerable One asked me to help you with some small favors within my power."

"Looks like you can fight?"

Bayonetta's tone made Salomon straighten up involuntarily. He said angrily, "Don't underestimate me, witch! I've been trained!"

"Alright, let's go now." The witch nodded, took Salomon's hand, and walked out.

"But I haven't eaten yet!"

"Let's eat at Enzo's house."

------------

"Slow down, slow down, slow down! It's too fast!" Salomon kept muttering. He was currently sitting on the back of Bayonetta's motorcycle, and the excessive speed forced him to hold onto the witch's slender waist tightly. But Salomon's pleas for mercy did not make Bayonetta slow down; instead, she sped up even more.

After Bayonetta took him to Enzo's house for a delicious dinner, she immediately had Salomon open a portal to Florence, Italy, because angels descended there, and that place happened to be one of Salomon's targets, as the Franciscan priest Paul had stayed there for a period of time.

So Bayonetta put Salomon on the back of the motorcycle and took him there with her.

Salomon wouldn't have been so alarmed by a normal fast car, but Bayonetta's motorcycle seemed to possess the magic of a spider, capable of speeding across any surface. For example, right now, Bayonetta was carrying him as they sped along the rocky cliffs of a mountain stream.

By the time they arrived at their destination, Salomon's legs were so weak he could barely stand.

"Oh? Is that not enough, Boya?" Bayonetta's lips curled up in a mocking smile at Salomon.

"Hmph!" Salomon snorted in dissatisfaction. "Let me get used to it. Kamar-Taj doesn't have events like this. It definitely won't happen again..."

"Boya, can you still move?" The witch's tone rose slightly at the end, making Salomon blush again.

"Of course!" the sorcerer said stubbornly. "Just let me walk a few more steps."

"OK~ Come and see how big sister fights monsters." A complex purple spell appeared in front of Bayonetta. She walked in and disappeared. Salomon took a deep breath, put on his sling ring, and chanted a spell he had just learned. A portal appeared in front of him, but the scene inside was exactly the same as here. Nevertheless, he walked in.

This is the "Purgatory," or at least that's what Bayonetta calls it. As a witch, Bayonetta can freely enter and exit this plane. This plane is a thin membrane between the Prime Material Plane and the outer planes. When extradimensional beings descend upon Earth, they appear here first, and then pass through the Purgatory to reach the Prime Material Plane.

This plane is independent of the Prime Material Plane. Here, only the transparent shadows of humans from the Prime Material Plane can be seen; contact with humans is impossible. However, other inanimate matter can influence each other. For example, buildings and other structures behave the same as in the Prime Material Plane. Destroying objects in the Infernal Realm will also cause destruction in the Prime Material Plane. Salomon believes this might be a unique plane to this world, as it doesn't align with his knowledge of planar geometry.

As Salomon walked in, a golden spear slashed through the air and flew toward him.

The sorcerer calmly sidestepped the attack. Before him stood a creature entirely white with a bird's head, adorned with a red mask trimmed with gold lace.

This is an angel, or rather, the angel Affinity who serves Jubileeus. If it weren't for the halo above its head and the pure white wings behind it, probably no one would think that this creature is an angel. In addition to having a bird's head, this angel's hands and feet are also like bird claws, and the golden spear is firmly grasped by those four claws.

Before the sorcerer could even finish his incantation, he swung a punch, and the Ring of Raghadore slammed heavily onto the angel's visor, causing the angel to stagger a few steps. Salomon stepped forward, his right leg planted firmly on the golden spear, while his left leg slammed forward, sending the angel Affinity staggering backward, the golden spear falling to the ground.

Salomon bent down and picked up the spear. It wasn't too heavy, and it looked like a cross-shaped spear with an X-shaped blade at the back of the muzzle, along with several small metal spikes of varying lengths. Although the weapon's design wasn't very good, it was still usable, albeit barely.

The angel, now unarmed, couldn't hold out against Salomon for long. He easily pierced Affinity's bird head with the tip of his spear, and the angel vanished in golden light. Salomon turned to see more angels attacking Bayonetta, but her lithe figure prevented their attacks from landing on her. Instead, she seized the opportunity to kill several angels of various shapes.

Well, it seems the angel who attacked Salomon was a coward who bullied the weak. The sorcerer hurled his spear in dissatisfaction. Having been trained by Athena, he was quite proficient in this skill. The spear, carrying immense kinetic energy, accurately pierced through an angel with a marble face and small golden wings, pinning it to the ground.

"Boya~ Come help big sister~" Bayonetta even had the leisure to greet Salomon.

Salomon snorted; this woman was flirting with him again.

However, this was a rare opportunity that Salomon was not going to let slip, because he could finally test his dark magic.
