Chapter 42 Hell's Gate Bar
Chapter 42 Hell's Gate Bar (Seeking Investment!)
After spending nearly a week repeatedly playing through the recently released Assassin's Creed, Salomon set off again. But he had to visit someone first, or rather, something that wasn't human, where he might find the witch Bayonetta.
Therefore, Salomon must wear the Kamar-Taj emblem to avoid being seen as an uninvited guest.
"I've already followed the Sorcerer Supreme's rules!" The burly black man behind the bar wiped his glasses without looking up, but his displeasure was evident on his face. His bald head, covered in black tattoos, made him look even more menacing. He put down his glass and said, "I didn't summon demons, I didn't summon angels, and I even killed a few. Is that not allowed? Wait, why is it a child…?"
This is The Gates of Hell bar, and the owner is that big black man standing behind the bar. On the surface, this big black man is just a tiny bit fierce, but in reality, he was once an angel, but has now fallen and become a creature from a lower plane.
Salomon was not surprised when the Sorcerer Supreme brought this up, because it was not uncommon for beings from higher planes to fall into lower planes. Usually, fallen angels would directly transform into succubi, but the Supreme said that this fallen angel was named Rodan and was male.
This surprised Salomon, because angels with a definite gender are usually high-ranking angels, and in Salomon's mind there was only one fallen high-ranking angel, and that was Zariel, the Daughter of Destruction.
Although we don't know what hell is like in this world, any high-ranking angel who falls from grace would surely become an incredibly terrifying demon. But it seems Salomon's estimate was wrong; this fallen angel didn't become a demon, but rather transformed into a monster.
This fallen angel was a skilled craftsman, but unable to find refuge in either the upper or lower planes, he was forced to reside on Earth. After agreeing to abide by the rules set by His Holiness and promising not to interfere in any Earthly affairs, His Holiness allowed him to live on Earth. Now, this fallen angel is a supplier of equipment for Kamar-Taj, and many commonly used items are made by him, including the Boots of Fodor worn by Salomon.
Hell Bars are often found in slums, where people run small businesses selling alcohol and food. Salomon successfully located the bar based on clues provided by the Sorcerer Supreme.
When he stepped inside, perhaps because his magic triggered the bar's identification mechanism, the interior of the bar instantly transformed from an inconspicuous, dilapidated little bar on the street into an otherworldly space covered with dark purple wallpaper, and all the customers who were eating and drinking there disappeared.
Salomon unwittingly stepped into the demiplane of this fallen angel.
"What are you doing here? We don't sell alcohol to minors here. Milk? Or warm water?" Rodin asked casually, deftly extinguishing the embers of his cigar and placing a glass of warm milk on the bar. "I assume you can reach the bar. So, what does the Sorcerer Supreme want with me?"
"The Venerable One doesn't have anything important to discuss with you; rather, I have something to attend to." Salomon sat down on the chair in front of the bar, his feet dangling in the air, which made him a little uncomfortable, but bearable. He picked up a cup of hot milk and took a sip. Hmm, sweet.
After Salomon finished his milk in one gulp, he let out a milky burp and said, "The Venerable One asked me to find something and told me that there is someone who can help, and that person often appears here."
"Looking for something? You need intelligence." Rodin brought over another glass of hot milk, then lowered his head again to continue wiping the glass. "Enzo, someone is looking for you."
"Huh?" A chubby man wearing a light-colored trench coat, a black wide-brimmed hat, and sunglasses spoke from behind the sofa. "Looking for me?"
"Put out your cigarette. There are minors here." Rodin didn't look up. "This sorcerer from Kamar-Taj is looking for something. God knows why the Sorcerer Supreme would send a child on a mission."
"But the person I'm looking for is Bayonetta." Salomon refused the hot milk; he couldn't drink any more.
Rodin abruptly raised his head, scrutinizing Salomon. When his gaze fell upon Salomon's hands, he exclaimed in realization, "It's you!"
"You know me? But this is the first time we've met." Salomon asked, somewhat puzzled.
"Everyone in the world connected to magic will remember the scene of your birth, child. You are far more famous than you imagine." Rodin poured another glass of iced cola. "That beam of light from heaven can be seen by anyone who isn't blind. Later, you were adopted by the Sorcerer Supreme, which is common knowledge in the magical world. What's your name?"
"Solomon".
"As expected, I know your name just by seeing your stigmata." Rodin nodded, his tone unusually gentle, perhaps due to Salomon's age. "However, I don't think now is the time for you to launch a counterattack on Heaven and seize your mother's soul. Bayonetta can't help you break into Heaven; you'll have to rely on yourself."
“I have never met my mother,” Salomon said expressionlessly. “But if I had the chance, I certainly would, but not now. I’m not that stupid. I’m here to see Bayonetta for something else.”
"What is it?" Enzo leaned closer, having already stubbed out his cigar. "When it comes to finding things, Bayonetta is no match for me. All she knows is fighting and killing."
Salomon glanced at Enzo, then at Rodan, hesitating whether to reveal the matter of the Dark Book. But he felt that such a thing shouldn't be considered a secret among the immortals, so he revealed the information he had obtained.
Including the alchemical book written by Paul of Taranto, an Italian Franciscan priest and teacher, he now needs to know where Paul wrote that book. Only by knowing where Paul went throughout his life can he find the place where Paul came into contact with the knowledge of the Dark Book.
"The Sorcerer Supreme actually sent you to find that book," Ron said. "That book has been lost for a long time, and I don't think Enzo can find it. Are you sure this is your mission?"
"Perhaps His Holiness doesn't want me to stay in the room all the time, fearing I'll suffocate, so he wants me to go out for a walk," Salomon said. "Of course, it's more likely that His Holiness wants me to go out and gain experience, but I always feel it's a bit too early."
"Indeed," Rodin nodded. "Your experience is still insufficient. For example, you revealed information here that Enzo didn't know, and he gained free information."
"Don't underestimate me! I have information that even you don't know!" Enzo waved his fist in dissatisfaction, but he didn't dare to lose his temper with Rodin. He just waved his fist to express his protest.
He turned his head and changed his tone, saying to Salomon, "I think we can talk this business, not here. The food here is terrible. You can come to my house. My two children, Ed and Edna, will be happy to see you. My wife is also a great cook, much better than Rodin."
The bar door slammed open, and a tall, graceful figure appeared in the doorway. A pair of incredibly long legs, encased in black, form-fitting fabric, strode in, the extremely long heels making a crisp sound on the bar floor.
"Oh my, we have a little customer today." The woman had a very seductive voice. "Rodin, when did your bar start serving minors? Selling alcohol to minors is illegal, you know."
"Bayonetta, he's looking for you," Rodin reminded her at the opportune moment.
"Um?"
The woman approached, bending slightly. Salomon was enveloped by an incredibly alluring fragrance from all angles, and a beautiful curve draped in black, form-fitting fabric appeared before his eyes. He also heard that incredibly sexy voice; his extraordinary hearing allowed him to even hear the gurgling sounds of her tongue and teeth, and her warm, tingling breath, as if her tongue were already swirling inside his ear.
"Boya~ Are you looking for me?"
Good morning.
